2008 Fonplegade, St-Emilion

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A major sleeper of the vintage, the 2008 offers fabulous aromas and flavors of black currants, black cherries, loamy soil, graphite and earth. Dense and supple textured with abundant fat and concentration in its medium to full-bodied, complex, evolved personality, it should drink well for 15+ years." (3/2011) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated medium ruby. Aromas of blackberry, kirsch, violet and dark chocolate, along with some tarry high tones. Densely packed and impressively concentrated, with fine-grained flavors of sweet dark cherry, currant and graphite. Offers surprising lif ...Read More »

2008 d'Aiguilhe, Côtes d'Castillon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Unquestionably a sleeper of the vintage, the opaque plum/ruby/purple-tinged 2008 d’Aiguilhe reveals abundant notes of licorice, fruitcake, black currants and kirsch, sweet tannin, a round, generous texture and impressive purity as well as length. It should be enjoyed over the next 6-8 years." (5/2011) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full, saturated medium ruby. Brooding aromas of crushed blackberry, kirsch, violet and licorice. Sweet on entry, then concentrated and lively, with ripe, integrated acidity framing the crushed black fruit flavors. This fruit bomb really spreads out to satu ...Read More »

2008 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien

90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel sample. Good density here, structured, with some jammy sweet fruits as well as a dark layer of dense tannins. The potential is well for a well balanced wine." (12/2009) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While the 2008 is not a blockbuster, it is a strong effort for the vintage. This dark plum/purple-hued wine reveals some background oak, licorice, earth, plum, black currant and cherry notes intertwined with a foresty/mossy component. Deep, polished and medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin, it builds incrementally on the palate. This impressive 2008 will benefit from 2-3 years of ...Read More »

2008 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for the -wine of the vintage,- the 2008 Haut-Bailly possesses incredible complexity. Tell-tale notes of lead pencil shavings, charcoal, damp earth, black cherries and black currants intermixed with a hint of subtle barbecue smoke are present in this classic, quintessential Graves. Medium-bodied with an emerging, precocious complexity, it is a super-pure, beautifully textured, long wine that can be drunk now or cellared for 20-25 years. Bravo! (RP)" (5/2011) 93 points Vinous: "The 2008 Haut Bailly has long been one of the knockout wines of the vintage. Now at ten ...Read More »

2008 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2008 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (98RP, 97WE, 95JS, 93ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for the wine of the vintage, the 2008 should have been purchased before it began to soar in value because of the significance of the number 8 in the Chinese culture (denoting good luck). Representing 40% of the production, this blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc offers aromas of high quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, lead pencil shavings, creme de cassis, earth, cedar and asphalt. Full, rich and stunningly concentrated... The 2008 should be relatively drinkable in 6-10 years as it is already showing remarkable complexity and breed, and will last for 30-35 years...at the minimum. (RP)" (05/2011)

2008 Le Dôme, St-Emilion

93 points Vinous: "The 2008 Le Dôme is turning into a really quite lovely Saint Émilion. Now at a decade old, this has arrived at a sweet spot, atypically quite classic in style. As I remarked in 2012 when I last tasted it, this Le Dôme sports earthy tobacco-tinged red fruit on the nose, the iodine and cassis element having ebbed away. There is wonderful freshness here, frankly, not a million miles away from Figeac in style. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, quite sensual in style with a fine backbone, open and generous, with commendable complexity on the finis ...Read More »
