2008 Lafleur-Gazin, Pomerol

90 points Wine & Spirits: "No notes given." (6/2012) Wine Enthusiast: "A soft wine, with attractive berry fruits, smoky acidity and sweet juicy flavors. The tannins are well integrated with acidity pushing through. The finish is delicious, soft and ripe. (RV)" (4/2011) Wine Spectator: "Offers solid flesh for the vintage, with dark fig, currant and anise notes laced with roasted apple wood and spice. A graphite streak on the finish adds length and weight. (JM)" (6/2011)

2008 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Stylish wine, balanced, intensely elegant. It has freshness and also weight, encased in a structure that is poised, beautifully integrating black currant fruit and chocolate flavors. (RV)" (4/2011) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 is a beauty in the style of the 1988. Although not performing as well as I predicted last year, it is unquestionably an outstanding effort as well as one of the better values from Pichon Lalande in many years. Its dense plum/purple hue is accompanied by sweet aromas of red and black currants, charcoal, herbs, underbrush and a hint of truffles. This medi ...Read More »

2008 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the finest over-achieving efforts in this vintage as well as a 'best buy' for a top-flight St.-Julien, this 2008 is an irresistible success. It reveals an opaque ruby/purple color, lots of unctuosity and a boatload of sweet cassis and black cherry fruit intertwined with notions of licorice, smoke and oak. Full-bodied, remarkably concentrated and stunningly pure and textured, this sensational wine is already drinking well, and will be even better with 2-3 years of cellaring. It should last for 20-25 years. Bravo! (RP)" (5/2011) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Generous and ripe, obv ...Read More »

2008 Lafleur, Pomerol (1.5L) (Previously $1500)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Lafleur is a wine to buy from this very under-rated vintage. A blend of 54% Cabernet Franc and 46% Merlot, the wine has a similar color to the 2010, only less purple. With a beautiful nose of boysenberry , black cherry, damp earth and truffle-like notes in what is clearly a classic style, it is built in a masculine, full-bodied manner along the lines of the 1988 or perhaps 1996. This wine needs a good 5-7 years of cellaring and should keep 30 years. It is certainly one of the most backward 2008s from Pomerol. (RP)" (5/2011) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, moderately satu ...Read More »

2008 La Mission-Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like a lot of wines in this underrated vintage, the 2008 La Mission was one of the great bargains of recent vintages. Its healthy blue/purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, licorice, truffles, underbrush and forest floor. The scorched earthy/smoky character of this estate’s terroir has not yet emerged. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated with good acidity, freshness and delineation, this is a big wine for the vintage, but also very classic in its balance of tannin, acidity and extract. It will benefit from another 5-7 y ...Read More »

2008 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for the “wine of the vintage,” Pontet Canet’s 2008 boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious aromas of sweet blueberries, blackberries and black currant fruit intertwined with lead pencil shavings, subtle barbecue smoke and a hint of forest floor. Full-bodied, with fabulous richness, texture and tremendous freshness, this first-growth-like effort is more developed than the uber-powerful 2010. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following three decades. Bravo! (RP)" (5/2011) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "***Cellar Selection*** Smooth, with dense tanni ...Read More »

2008 Hosanna, Pomerol

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly as remarkable as both the 2009 and 2010, the 2008 Hosanna is one of the superstars of the vintage. Its dense plum/purple color is followed by aromas and flavors of spring flowers, black currants, boysenberries, white chocolate and forest floor. This irresistible, opulent, textured, fleshy 2008 should continue to drink well for 15-20+ years. don't miss it! (RP)" (5/2011) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Austere wine, its tannins pushing forward to give power and structure. It is dense, concentrated, with layer upon layer of bitter coffee and dark fruit flavors, ...Read More »

2008 Ausone, St-Emilion (1.5L) (Previously $1600.00)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly the “wine of the vintage,” the 2008 boasts an inky/blue/purple color as well as a glorious perfume of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry liqueur, camphor, truffles and crushed rocks. With great fruit on the attack and mid-palate, a medium to full-bodied, multidimensional mouthfeel and a skyscraper-like finish, this prodigious effort over-delivers, even for this phenomenal terroir. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 40-50 years. (RP)" (5/2011) 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Wonderfully perfumed wine that exudes class. It has weight and extractio ...Read More »
