2012 Haras de Pirque "Hussonet" Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva Maipo Valley Top Pick!
2012 Haras de Pirque "Hussonet" Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva Maipo Valley

92 points James Suckling: "Aromas of lemon rind, spice, sweet tobacco and hints of currants. Full to medium body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Light spicy aftertaste to this. Drink now." (5/2016) K&L Notes: While the 2011 vintage Hussonet took everyone by storm, we believe the 2012 vintage, with its greater volume, added structure and superior balance, to be even better. Simply put, there are few under $10 Cabs that deliver the true varietal character, subtle savory nuances and overall balance that this one does. Highly recommended.

2016 Matetic "EQ" Sauvignon Blanc Casablanca Valley

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The almost transparent 2016 EQ Coastal Sauvignon Blanc from Casablanca was produced with grapes grown at 12 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean on decomposed granite and mica soils. It fermented in stainless steel, barriques and concrete amphorae where it's kept with lees for four months, which represents the essence of what Matetic Sauvignon Blanc is about: citric, salty, with a balanced palate and good persistence. It's subtle and elegant, a restrained style of Sauvignon, more about the place (sea breeze, granite) than the variety. Beautifully textured, ...Read More »

2014 Casa Silva Carmenère Colchagua Valley

90 points Wine & Spirits: "Blended from estate vineyards spread across Colchagua, this cuvée offers a clear picture of the region’s carmenère. It’s an enchanting red, with subtle herbal notes woven through round, rich red fruit. While the sweetness of the fruit makes it easy to drink now, it has the potential to become more complex over the next couple of years. Then open it for roast pork." (2/2016)

2015 Domaine Bousquet Cabernet Sauvignon Tupungato Valley

91 points Wine & Spirits: "*Best Buy* Another great value from the Bousquet family, this is made from organic grapes grown in the chalky and stony soils of Gualtallary. The high altitude shows in a subtly herbal scent, while the wine focuses on ripe red fruit and spices. This is a textbook Cabernet, with the firm acidity and a solid structure, but it's also easy to drink and ready for steak." (4/2016)

Bring it on your next beach vacation or drink it well chilled by the pool." (6/2014) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Cherry and raspberry aromas are clean and varietally pitch perfect. Plenty of lifting acidity and freshness accompany earthy, spicy flavors of raspberry and red plum that finish peppery, dry and with a note of toasty oak. (5/2016) 91 points Vinous: "Vivid red. Fresh, mineral-accented red berries, candied flowers and succulent herbs on the incisive nose. Silky, seamless and light on its feet, offering juicy raspberry and bitter cherry flavors complemented by a hint of spiciness that builds with air. A fabulous wine. Better in 2020 but gorgeous now." (5/2016) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The current release is the 2014 Almaviva, the classical Bordeaux blend from Puente Alto, one of the most prestigious appellations in Maipo. This is a late and slow ripening terroir. This was the reason why the frost of September 2013 didn't affect them, because the vines had not yet sprouted. 2015 De Martino "Estate" Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Valley

De Martino has arguably undergone one of the more radical transformations the wine world has seen in the past five years. The second largest owner of organic vineyards in Chile, with 740 acres in production, De Martino is stepping up to the plate in other ways as well: the winery is 100% carbon neutral and beginning in 2011 they have stopped purchasing new oak barrels. 2011 Viña Quebrada "Domus Aurea" Cabernet Sauvignon Maipo Valley

96 points Wine & Spirits: "Never a day goes by that I do not feel fortunate to work with these vines,” says Jean Pascal Lacaze, referring to the Quebrada de Macul vineyard; the Peña family planted the vines in 1970 and hired Lacaze to make the wine in 2002. Just on the outskirts of Santiago, Macul is where some of the first cabernet vines were planted in Chile, in the mid-19th century. Domus reflects that history in a cabernet with more of a sense of place than most of its neighbors in the Alto Maipo. (5/2016) K&L Notes: Errazuriz continues their pioneering exploration of coastal Pinot Noir in the Aconcagua Costa area, a zone known for complex soil types featuring slate and schist, imparting a unique minerality to their Chardonnays and Pinot Noir. This wine spends 10- 12 months in french oak, 10% of which is new, which helps to frame the wine and adds just a bit of subtle spice as well. Really good Pinot Noir for a very fair pr... 2012 Gillmore "Vigno" Carignane Maule Valley

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Vigno Carignan is pure Carignan from Loncomilla fermented in open stainless steel vats and aged for 18 months in barriques and oak foudres. This has the unmistakable nose of Gillmore: all flowers and aromatic herbs, hints of mint, even a touch of eucalyptus that is easy to recognize in a blind tasting. The palate shows some grainy, slightly dusty tannins that call for food, which paired with the high acidity (pH 3.28) makes it somehow austere and serious -- a bit of a contrast with the explosive nose. This has the stuffing and acidity to develop ...Read More »

In this second ferment they increased the amount of fruit from Triquilemu. There is a note of pencil lead, unusual acidity for País and very good freshness. (LG)" (4/2017) K&L Notes: Pais, which is the same grape variety as Mission in California and originally known as Listan Negro in Spain's Canary Islands, is an impressive vine, hearty, vigorous, and often times over a century old in Chile. 2016 Weon Carignane Maule Valley

Carignane has definitely become one of the defining grapes of Chile. The style is usually a bit juicier and less earthy than that of much of France, but still retaining fresh acid structure, low pH, and occasionally a subtle green, eucalyptus twang. The Weon, from the Maule Valley, is initially a bit funky, in a good way, but turns juicy and fleshes out nicely on the mid-palate. A great introduction to Chilean Carignane.

The wine matured in cement vats for one year. It has a completely different nose, with notes of white pepper, flowers and cured meats, a cross between Cote de Nuits and Northern Rhone, balanced and complex, really lovely. A wild Pinot Noir full of personality and energy, slightly rustic, ideal with saucisson. I could drink this any day and the price is a steal. (LG)" (6/2014) Vinous: "Deep red. In Cachapoal it rains around 500 millimeters per year, compared with the Maule Valley where it rains around 800 millimeters.
