1998 Haut Franquet, Moulis

We discovered this wine on our 2017 Bordeaux trip and it has finally arrived. A neighbor of Poujeaux, I must admit i have never seen the property, but what they did in 1998 is commendable. Some 1998 left bank wines are a bit coarse and tough-this, like the Poujeaux, is elegant and fruit driven. Perfect hamburger wine.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a medium-bodied, elegant wine offering up scents of plums, cherries, and loamy soil. 2007 Malescasse, Haut-Medoc Top Pick!
2007 Malescasse, Haut-Medoc

Jancis Robinson: "Already a bit of evolution on the nose! Sweet, Earl Grey tea character. Mild and with sufficient gentle fruit on the mid palate though pretty chewy on the finish. Pretty low key. 16/20" (4/2008) K&L Notes: Château Malescasse is an historic property ideally situated on gravel soils close to the Gironde River just north of Margaux. While it is true that 2007 will never have the power or authority of the finest vintages of the decade, the best wines display a remarkable ripeness and an admirable richness of texture. These are medium to full-bodied reds with soft tannins... Read More »

2006 Taittinger "Comtes de Champagne" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne Top Pick!
2006 Taittinger "Comtes de Champagne" Brut Blanc de Blancs Champagne

97 points Decanter: "The 2006 brings back all the wonder of classic Comtes: the innocence of a joyful childhood, a free-as-air dash through endless blue daylight and a breathless plunge into an icy mountain rock pool. A wine of coiled energy, focus, precision and minerality that bores to the very core of the finest chalkfields of the Côte des Blancs." (1/2016) 97 points Vinous: "The 2006 Comtes de Champagne is striking, especially in the way it brings together elements of ripeness and freshness in a hypothetical blend of the 2002 and 2004. 2008 La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" Reserva Rioja

95 points Decanter: "The best classic style of Grenache and Tempranillo pulling together joyful fruit expression and serious depth. In the mouth it is amazingly complex and so unique. A benchmark Rioja blend. SJE: A rich, sweet and savoury Reserva style with all the red cherries and a strong Grenache influence. It is somewhat old-fashioned, in a good way, with plentiful integrated oak and a fine rasp of tannin. PM: This has a wonderful oxidative style, giving it a superb savoury nose of leather. Gorgeous aromas of cream, apple, mango, honeysuckle, and chalk follow through to a full body and super fine, tight texture. Dense and agile. Vinous. It’s like a top grand cru white Burgundy. Think Batard-Montrachet. More depth than the 2006." (7/2017) 96 points Decanter: "Unbroken sun through August and early September helped to shape an idyllic harvest, on 12th September. (4/1995) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted from the Château reserves at the estate. The ’89 is a little lighter in hue compared to the Suduiraut ’90. 2013 Can Mayol Loxarel Garnatxa Blanca Brut Nature Classic Penedes

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Produced with Garnacha Blanca grapes, the new 2013 Garnatxa Blanca Brut Nature (they use the Catalan spelling of the grape) is the first I know of produced with the variety. It's sourced from vines grown at high altitude (for Penedès), 800 meters, from 30-year-old plants kept in contact with the lees for no less than 15 months. 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This Aube-based producer’s latest vintage release is rich and creamy. It is young, although it is possible to find the texture and density that will allow it to age. It is in a crisp style, tight with acidity, finishing taut and mineral. Drink from 2019. (RV)" (8/2018) K&L Notes: This all estate grown gem from Baron Fuente is composed of 45% Chardonnay, 40% Meunier, and 15% Pinot Noir from around Charly-sur-Marne. Well-made, with moderate tannin, excellent purity, and a medium-bodied, ripe, melted asphalt-flavored finish, this [is a] seductive Lynch-Moussas...(RP)" (4/1999) K&L Notes: In February 1998, Robert Parker wrote: "Lynch-Moussas is clearly on the comeback trail, as evidenced by the 1995 and 1996 efforts, which are two of the finest wines I have tasted from this Pauillac estate." There's plenty of character, with a polished, refined style, yet tannic. Best after 2011. (JS)" (3/2008) 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Scattered notes of stony spice and tobacco join with fairly solid young curranty fruit in both the aromas and flavors of this full-scaled and well-extracted young Graves, and it delivers a little more volume and depth than we would expect at the price. (8/2016) K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "100% Gin Gin clone Chardonnay, hand harvested from our Ironstone Vineyard and bursting with the richness and opulence that Margaret River Chardonnay is known for. (RP) 95+" (8/2014) 93 points James Suckling: "Pure ripe fruit on the nose with raspberries and blueberries. Full bodied, with round and silky tannins and a pretty polish to this ripe and fruit forw ...Read More »

2001 Bodegas Riojanas "Monte Real" Gran Reserva Rioja

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "Smoky and earthy smelling, with aromas of tobacco, subtle spice and dried cherry. This feels tight, with more acidity than body at this point in its evolution. Flavors of dried raspberry, plum, earth and brown sugar are solid and classic. (MS)" (7/2012) K&L Notes: Bodegas Riojanas is a very good and woefully underappreciated Rioja bodega making wines in a traditional style. The winery is most famous for their red wines, particularly their Viña Albina and Monte Real gran reservas. Monte Real consists of 80% Tempranillo, 15% Mazuelo and 5% Graciano grapes all hand harv... 2003 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

96 points James Suckling: "Sweet tobacco and plum with hints of leather and cassis on the nose. Full bodied, with big velvety tannins and lots of fruit. Very rich and powerful, even chewy. Give this some time to mellow out. Pull the cork after 2016." (3/2011) 95 points Wine Spectator: "*Top 100 Wines of 2006* Wow. This shows so much ripe fruit and berry character with just the right hint of lead pencil and spice. Full-bodied and very chewy. Big and powerful. Beautiful wine. Superb. Best after 2012. (JS)" (3/2006) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A brilliant effort, this 2003 displays a vigorous, intact, deep blue/purple color as well as notes ...Read More »

2006 Château Bouscassé "Vieilles Vignes" Madiran

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Some vines at Bouscassé are 150 years old, which inevitably give this wine great depth and concentration. It is hugely structured, with very rich, intense black-plum flavors. The tannins are still developing. (RV)" (6/2012) Wine Spectator: "Full-bodied, with ripe plum, berry and dark cherry flavors that are accented by rich, spicy notes. The firm finish is redolent of smoke and mineral. Tannat. 2008 Trimbach "Cuvée Frédéric Émile" Riesling Alsace Back In Stock!
2008 Trimbach "Cuvée Frédéric Émile" Riesling Alsace

96 points Decanter: "This prestige cuvée is named after the man who started this Alsace wine dynasty, now in the hands of the 13th generation. Always a near-peerless Riesling, this new release is bone dry, structured and elegant, with savoury, nutty, autumnal notes and tangy citrus acidity. It's poised, powerful, complex and concentrated, with a seam of brisk yuzu-like acidity to complement the creamy nougat notes. Drinking Window 2018 - 2030. (TG)" (2/2018) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile is now in the market and readers shouldn't miss seeking it out. This is a gorgeou ...Read More »

2008 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for the wine of the vintage, Pontet Canet’s 2008 boasts an opaque purple color as well as copious aromas of sweet blueberries, blackberries and black currant fruit intertwined with lead pencil shavings, subtle barbecue smoke and a hint of forest floor. Full-bodied, with fabulous richness, texture and tremendous freshness, this first-growth-like effort is more developed than the uber-powerful 2010. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following three decades. Bravo! (RP)" (5/2011) 95 points Decanter: "Beautifully poised and balanced, with memorable f ...Read More »
