2005 Fourcas Hosten, Listrac

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Still young, with its dry tannins, this is a wine that has developed depth and concentration over the last 3-4 years. It has power, the berry fruits driving through the structure to give a layered, attractive, serious finish. (RV)" (6/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep ruby/plum/purple, with more sweetness to its fruit than normal, the 2005 Fourcas Hosten displays minerality, earth, spice, blackcurrants, and touches of oak and forest notes. 2005 Raymond-Lafon, Sauternes (375ml)

91-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "No tasting note given." (4/2008) 93 points Wine Spectator: "This is pure and precise, showing rich apricot, peach and clementine flavors, but great cut too, with a mouthwatering edge that lets chamomile, green plum and honeysuckle notes dance through the finish. Gorgeous. (JM, Web-2011)" 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright yellow-gold. Superripe but precise aromas of mirabelle, white nectarine and honey. Supersweet, deep and powerful, with a fat, honeyed character and terrific spicy persistence. A big boy but with lovely balance. (ST)" (7/2008)

2005 Coufran, Haut-Médoc Top Pick!
2005 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel sample. If you're looking for great, ripe black currant fruits, this is where to come. The wine is full and hugely fruity, but it still manages a good Bordeaux sense of proportion." (6/2006) Jancis Robinson: "Smokiness dominates the nose at the moment but there’s still evidence of fresh and aromatic cassis underneath. Rich and yet juicy. A slightly leafy aftertaste may not to be everyone’s taste but it does finish fresh. 2005 Guiraud, Sauternes (Previously $60.00)

97 points James Suckling: "This appears to be the synthesis of the fabulous 2001 and 2003. It shows wonderful aromas of botrytis spice, honey and citrus rind. Lots of fruit with a tropical fruit undertone of mango and papaya on the palate. Intense finish. Too excellent not to drink." (7/2013) 97 points Wine Spectator: "*Highly Recommended and #4 on Top 100 of 2008* Delivers lots of botrytis spice, with lemon tart and cooked apple. 2005 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

96 points Wine & Spirits: "Baron was trapped in its oak en primeur, seeming flashy, luscious and soft. Now bottled and shipped, it has the unremitting tannic power of the vintage, balanced by unrelenting purity of fruit that somehow manages to anesthetize the monstrous tannin, to soften the extremely dry, mineral-bound finish into a caress. The wine may be bombastic, but it's also succulent and as sweet as a ripe black raspberry. It's easy to imagine this wine 50 years from now, in impeccable condition." Harmonious balance between ripe, dark fruit, integrated oak, and chewy tannins. Attractive. Drink 2013-18." 2005 Lanessan, Haut-Médoc (1.5L)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A classic Médoc, Lanessan’s 2005 exhibits beautiful, almost Pauillac-like, cedary blackcurrant fruit. Always a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon with a touch of Cabernet Franc and some Merlot and Petit Verdot, the wine is medium to full-bodied and meaty, with forest floor, blackcurrants, and some cedar wood. It is delicious, soft, and surprisingly approachable for a 2005 Médoc. The color is a healthy dark plum/ruby/purple. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. Second wine of Ducru." (4/2012) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The second wine, the sensational 2005 Croix de Beaucaillou, is the finest example of this cuvee I have ever tasted. Sweet black raspberry and black cherry fruit aromas soar from the glass of this open-knit seductress. 2005 Fontenil, Fronsac (1.5L)

Dense plum, black cherry, blackberry and cassis fruit jump from the glass of this full-bodied, terrific Fronsac, which is one of the appellation’s stars of the vintage. Long, rich, young, and capable of lasting another 15-20 years, this is one of the candidates for Wine of the Vintage in Fronsac. This wine actually needs another several years of bottle age. Sharply delineated and very tightly wound, but with superb intensity of black fruit, chocolate, earth and mineral flavors and excellent inner-palate energy. This mounts very slowly on the back, finishing with a youthfully sappy quality, firm tannins and impressive length. 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Its bigger sister, the 2005 Château Palmer (53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 7% Petit Verdot), is one of the great efforts of this superlative vintage. Floral notes mixed with blackberry, cassis, plum, licorice and spring flowers soar from the glass of this dense ruby/purple wine. It is medium to full-bodied, surprisingly opulent (it has a big percentage of Merlot), long, multi-dimensional and textured. The 2005 Château Climens just soars from the glass with layers of clear honey, marmalade, nectarine and minerals all beautifully carved. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh, vibrant honeyed fruit that builds and builds in the mouth in tandem with a killer line of acidity. (7/2014) 94 points Wine & Spirits: "Lagrange produced a joyous Cabernet in 2005, with the lovely textural fatness and kindness of tannin that places it clearly in St-Julien. Wild aromas of blackberry, dark raspberry, mocha and meat. Sappy, penetrating and deep, with highly concentrated flavors of dark raspberry, truffle, game, minerals and flowers. 2005 De Villegeorge, Haut-Médoc

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From one of the Lurton family’s properties, this Haut-Médoc has a strikingly dense ruby/purple color and a classic nose of blackcurrants, earth and spice in a medium-bodied style. The tannins are still there, and the wine will probably benefit from several more years of bottle age. (RP)" (6/2015) K&L Notes: From The Lucien Lurton family and run by Marie Laure Lurton Roux. This property is located near Moulis and Listrac. Another stunning 2005 Bordeaux wine at a great price. Very rich on the palate and a very long, lingering finish. 2005 Giscours, Margaux

95 points James Suckling: "This is a beautiful Giscours with tension and finesse. It's full-bodied and shows plenty of berry and spice character, not to mention a long, silky-textured finish. It seduces you with each sip." (10/2015) 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "This chateau gets better and better. The wine has power, but it is harnessed by the intense fruits, the blackberry flavors, the density and the wood. With the power, though, comes elegance, resulting in a wine that is ready to develop over many years." (6/2008) 93 points Wine Spectator: "*Ranked #94, Top 100 Wines of 2008* Displays blackberry, cherry and hints of sweet tobacco. Full ...Read More »

2005 Meyney, St-Estèphe

90 points James Suckling: "This starts off a little bretty with barnyard undertones, but it blows off to flowers and rich fruit. Round and juicy, with yummy flavors. A long finish on this. Very spicy and earthy. St. Estephe character. Enjoy or age." (2/2011) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of currant and fresh flowers follow through to a medium-to-full body, with chewy tannins and a slightly woody finish, but the fruit comes through. Turns long and pretty. Best after 2010. (JS, Web-2008)" K&L Notes: From barrel: 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 29% Petit Verdot. Sweet and lush-delicious. Elegant style. We love this ... 2005 Larrivet Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan

92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel sample. There's great fruit here, lovely ripe dark plums and black cherry flavors pushing through the hugely sweet tannins. It's very opulent, a great full-fruited wine. (RV)" (6/2006) 92 points Wine & Spirits: "A gravel wash of tannin creates the structural base for this wine, spreading red currant and licorice root flavors through a long finish. The fruit is bold and supple, the mineral flavor providing tension that will sustain the wine as it ages over the next decade. For braised lamb." (10/2008) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Exhibiting classic Graves aromas of smoky, volcanic, scorched earth, herbs, ch ...Read More »

2005 Smith-Haut-Lafitte Rouge, Pessac-Léognan

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This sensational, opaque blue/purple-colored wine from Smith Haut Lafitte has a gorgeous floral nose with notes of graphite, blueberries, blackberries, and cassis that jump from the glass of this inky, very dense, yet strikingly pure wine. Light on its feet despite its stunning concentration and multi-layered mouthfeel, this wine has fabulous intensity, richness and length. Quite impressive, and still incredibly youthful, this is a superstar of the vintage, and capable of lasting another 25-30 years. (RP)" (6/2015) 95 points James Suckling: "An impressive nose of spices, dark fruits ...Read More »

2005 Caronne Ste-Gemme, Haut-Médoc

91 points Wine Spectator: "(Smart Buys) Offers raisin and dried fruit, with very ripe fruit aromas and coffee and oak undertones. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long finish. This is pumped up, but I like the flamboyant character. Best after 2011." (3/2008) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Space limitations did not allow complete tasting notes for this Cru Bourgeois, but 2005 is the finest vintage for these wines since 1982. The range of scores for these wines should give readers an idea of just how consistent this vintage is at this level. Given the style of the vintage, most of these wines should be acces ...Read More »

2005 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien

95 points Wine & Spirits: "This wine's heady rush of flavor gave one taster goosebumps. She called it sexy. "Formidable." Other technical descriptions included "the shazam," "has zazz," and "unprintable. That's some serious s#¡†." At the en primeur tastings, this appeared to be chunky and superripe. Now it's massive, with dark extract and exotic spice, a sophisticated wine that ends on sweetness, bitter chocolate and dark berry fruit. With all the flash, it will give a lot of pleasure as a young wine, but it has the plump Poyferré terroir drive to sustain that pleasure for years ...Read More »
