2006 Domaine Fourrier Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieille Vigne New!
2006 Domaine Fourrier Griotte-Chambertin Grand Cru Vieille Vigne

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An implosive concentration of dark cherry, blackberry, licorice, brown spices and black pepper marks the nose and palate of Fourrier's 2006 Griotte-Chambertin, which for all of its (in this vintage uncommon) density and sheer ripeness preserves buoyancy and clarity, letting a shower of spices, flowers, and crystalline, chalky mineral nuances burst forth in its finish. This is one of those wines that seems as though a complex chemical equation should exist to describe the catalytic, energy-releasing reaction among its parts. But there is more finesse and ...Read More »

2006 Domaine Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru "Clos des Ursules"

91 points from Stephen Tanzer: "Dullish medium red. Perfumed aromas of raspberry, redcurrant, smoke, leather and loam; smells deep! Then dense, solid and sweet, with very good vinosity and intensity to its soil-driven flavors of cherry, minerals and spicy underbrush. Plump but with a light touch. Finishes with a broad, fine dusting of tannins and good mineral persistence. This has turned out very well." (Mar/Apr 09) According to Burghound: "Here the nose displays the most wood of any of these Beaune 1ers though it stops short of being intrusive to the ... Read More »

2006 Maison Nicolas Potel Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Malconsorts"

91 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and exotic, with sandalwood and incense aromas highlighting the cherry and red currant flavors. There's some burly tannins behind the fruit. Needs time to integrate. Best from 2011 through 2024." (11/2008) K&L Notes: This is darker and earthier in character with a thread of minerality that runs forever on your palate. When I tasted this, I asked Nicolas if this was from high on the hill, near Gaudichots. He smiled, raised his glass, nodded and winked, which I took as a clear "yes". This is a real sleeper, less known than his Gaudichots. Nicolas is using homeopat... Read More »

2006 Joseph Drouhin Musigny Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Joseph Drouhin Musigny Grand Cru (95RP, 95WE, 91ST, 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Musky floral notes suggesting narcissus, magnolia, and perhaps some sort of exotic orchid mingle in the nose of Drouhin's 2006 Musigny with quinine, birch beer, and kirsch. The palate boasts remarkable richness and sheer viscosity for the vintage – though little superficial sweetness – along with textural refinement that goes beyond even the best of the rest of this year's Drouhin collection. Fruit pit bitterness; brown spices; roasting pan reduction of meat and fat; and an almost palpable sense of chalky and ore-like minerality add to the mystery and invigoration of a vibratory finish. This tastes awfully delicious today, though it should probably be given a few years in bottle. It ought to perform marvelously for at least a decade. (DS)" (12/2009)

2006 Domaine Dujac Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Gruenchers"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Dujac Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Gruenchers" ((90-93BH), (89-92ST), 91RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: " *Outstanding* A very Chambolle nose of high-toned raspberry and cherry aromas complements well the sweet, round and seductively textured flavors that possess excellent mid-palate concentration and outstanding depth on the punchy and palate staining finish. There is ample dry extract here and this should age very well as it's both balanced and blessed with impressive raw materials." (01/2008)

2006 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Cras"
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Cras" ((91-93RP), 92BH, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " Barthod's 2006 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras was happily untouched by hail and constitutes a generous 16 barrels. As usual, it displays (from barrel) the most concentration in its collection, and in this case along with that goes a fine sense of clarity to floral and mineral nuances. Fresh, tartly-edged red currant and red raspberry are allied to attractively contrasting chalk, stone, iodine, and toasted pecan. A sorbet-like projection of fruit on the palate is offered continued counterpoint by piquant nuttiness, cyanic fruit pit, and complex mineral impressions, whose impingement reinforces the sense of tannins that are fine-grained and healthy. This finishes with genuine (brash brass) fanfare sounding off of stone. I would plan to give it 2-3 years of rest in bottle, and expect it to perform well for at least a decade. (DS)" (12/2009)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Bruno Clavelier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "La Combe d'Orveaux" Vieilles Vignes (92ST, 91BH, 91WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full red. The reticent but pure nose delivers high-pitched notes of rose petal, violet, mint and pungent minerality. Perfumed and penetrating in the mouth, with an insidious subtle sweetness and a rocky precision to the flavors of red fruits and flowers. Finishes with a firm acid spine and toothcoating tannins but no impression of hardness. This calls for seven or eight years of cellaring." (03/2009)

2006 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos St. Jacques" Vieilles Vignes New!
2006 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Clos St. Jacques" Vieilles Vignes

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Predictably, Fourrier's 2006 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques is in another class from his other premier crus of the vintage, or indeed from most wines of its vintage regardless of classification. (For some salient details about Fourrier's share of this great site, consult issue 170.) A perfume-like, profuse and variegated bouquet of red raspberry, maraschino, cinnamon, marigold, and rose leads to a silken-textured though subtly-tannic palate with smoked meat and saline undertones. This finishes with both a kaleidoscopic dynamic of floral, fruit, anima ...Read More »

2006 Mommessin Clos de Tart Grand Cru (Elsewhere $250-400)

93 Points Allen Meadows: "A moderate dollop of new wood frames very ripe yet airy and elegant black raspberry and cherry aromas that are exceptionally fresh and dissolve into rich, suave and very pure full-bodied flavors that are wonderfully seductive as they just ooze dry extract that renders the otherwise very firm tannins almost invisible on the mouth coating, concentrated and strikingly long finish. While this is certainly a big wine, it is actually quite refined and elegant, indeed very much in the style of the '01 as Pitiot suggests. It doesn't qui... Read More »

Bid on this magnum of 2006 Frederic Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru "Estournelles St. Jacques" (1.5L) (90BH, 90ST, 90WS). Wine Spectator: "On the brawny side, with a wild edge to its berry and cherry flavors. The tannins are firm, ending with a tough, tobacco-accented finish today, though there's plenty of fruit. Best from 2012 through 2024." (05/2009)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2006 Domaine Francois Bertheau Chambolle-Musigny "Les Amoureuses" (92BH, 92RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Animal and woodsy notes mingle with red fruits and holly in the nose of Bertheau's 2006 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses. Resinous, saline, and tar-like elements join on the fine-grained palate and follow into a long finish underlain by low-toned meaty and mossy flavors that crystallizes this wine's intrigue. I would give it 2-3 years of rest before savoring it over the subsequent half dozen. (DS)" (12/2009)

2006 Domaine Ponsot Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru

Allen Meadows writes: "Strong reduction. The cool and refined flavors are rich and extremely earthy, indeed more so than usual with good mid-palate density and fine precision and while the finish also displays a touch of dryness, I really like the depth this offers. This is not a perfect effort but one that is more than respectable given the significant hail damage suffered in 2006."

2006 Hudelot-Noellat Richebourg Grand Cru
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Hudelot-Noellat Richebourg Grand Cru ((92-95BH), (92-94ST)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is also relatively tight and backward, requiring more than just a little swirling for the nose to grudgingly offer up an intensely spicy and layered dark berry fruit nose that precedes the tautly muscular, cool and sweet big-boned flavors supported by a powerfully long and driving finish that also stains the palate. There is a subtle minerality that adds lift to the finish and this is a really beautifully balanced effort that will also age for years. I would point out that while the RSV and Riche are qualitative equals their personalities and underlying characters are really quite different so a careful reading of the tasting notes is essential - either that or buy both of these beauties if you can find them!" Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2006 Dugat-Py Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (95BH, 94RP, 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A red berry liqueur nose complements beautifully the excellent quality and fine material of the generous, rich, sweet and full-bodied flavors that possess excellent detail despite the robust character of the mid-palate, all wrapped in a strikingly complex, dusty, mouth coating and amazingly long finish. This is a seriously impressive effort and a legitimate candidate for the Charmes of the vintage; note however that patience will be required. Note that in contrast to the Lavaut, this is actually less powerful but more elegant, which is the exact opposite of this duo in 2007." (01/2009)

2006 Domaine Leroy Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Narbantons"

92 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "This is a clear step up in aromatic depth if not elegance with its stylish, pure and expressive nose redolent of ample amounts of pungent Savigny earth and underbrush suffusing the ripe red and dark pinot fruit aromas trimmed in noticeable if subtle oak that marries into exceptionally rich, round and sweet flavors oozing with dry extract that, at present anyway, completely buffer the underlying structure. The tannins are dense but fine and this finishes with an attractive hint of minerality. Terrific as this is an elegant Savigny.
