2015 Chante Cigale "L'Apostrophe" Mediterranée (Previously $13)

Chante Cigale means singing cicada (a type of grasshopper/cricket). The property has been in the family since the 19th century and is currently run by Alexandre Favier who assumed the reins at the ripe old age of 20. The domaine is planted to 40 ha of red and 5 ha of white on 45 different parcels throughout the appellation. L'Apostrophe is a blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah grown in Travaillan, about 15 km from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This is a fresh and fruity everyday sipper to drink early and often.

2010 E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A stunning effort and showing the class of the vintage, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is comprised of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre that spent 24 months in foudre prior to bottling. Rich, textured and medium to full-bodied, with ample black cherry, olive tapenade and subtle meatiness, this traditional effort stays pure and lively, with fine tannin emerging on the finish. 2014 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape is a beautiful wine in the vintage, and Marc compares it to the 2012. I’m not sure I agree, but there’s no denying the quality in this 2014. Sporting a deep ruby color and terrific notes of blackberries, ground herbs, pepper and Provençal s pice, it shows the more forward, charming nature of the vintage and is medium to full-bodied, pure and balanced. Fleshy and broad on entry and then tighter in the middle, offering juicy, concentrated black raspberry and boysenberry flavors given spine by juicy acidity. Rich yet energetic, finishing with outstanding clarity and sweet persistence and shaped by smooth tannins. 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beautiful in the vintage, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reservee is a forward, perfumed example of the cuvee that has classic Pegau black fruits, tobacco leaf, pepper and leathery notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness and depth on the palate. Early-drinking by this estate’s standards, there’s nevertheless good mid-palate density and fine tannin. It should have 15 years or so of overall longevity. Drink now-2026 (JD)." 2014 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Decanter: "Paul and Vincent Avril, a father and son team, have established themselves as one of the finest producers of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Despite being predominantly Grenache, it is reminiscent of an elegant northern Rhône Syrah with the texture of a Pinot. With a medium bodied intensity, it has a beautiful red fruit expression with some savoury notes. Harmony, finesse and elegance are probably the three words that best describe this beauty. One for the cellar." (11/2016) 93-95 points Vinous: "Deep ruby. Highly perfumed scents of candied dark berries, cola and lavender oil develop a su ...Read More »

I suspect this beauty will close down relatively quickly after bottling and take 5-6 years to show at its best, but it will drink well for 15+ years. (RP)" (10/2011) 95 points Wine Spectator: "*Collectibles* Dense and rich, with creamed yellow apple, sweetened butter, glazed pear and Cavaillon melon notes all woven seamles ...Read More »

2004 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Wine Spectator: "*Collectibles* Thoroughly primal, with a torrent of raspberry and boysenberry fruit rushing forth. Only shows hints of its full range, with licorice, incense, graphite and mocha flavors fluttering in the background. Has an iron-clad structure, with a long finish that shows great cut and grip. Best from 2009 through 2025. (JM)" (5/2007) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Showing brilliantly, with a deep, rich and layered profile, the straight 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape has gorgeous black cherry, earth, underbrush and background meatiness that gives way to a full-bodied, concentrated and pure f ...Read More »

2006 Château Rayas Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve Top Pick!
2006 Château Rayas Châteauneuf-du-Pape Reserve

94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Vibrant strawberry, raspberry, anise and floral aromas could fill a room. Juicy and sharply delineated, offering sweet red berry and cherry preserve flavors with compelling accents of licorice, sassafras, lavender and smoky minerals. Extremely elegant wine with outstanding finishing cut and persistence. Not many grand cru Burgundies could match this for finesse. (JR)" (1/2009) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The elegant 2006 Rayas Chateauneuf du Pape is not as powerful as the 2005 or 2007, but it offers a deep ruby color as well as opulent, fleshy, kirsch and black raspberry ...Read More »

2007 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) "Cuvée Centenaire" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Two brilliant successes are Brunel’s cuvees of 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape. His limited cuvee of approximately 500 cases of the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Centenaire (made from 80% Grenache aged in foudre, and the balance Syrah and Mourvedre aged in one- to three-year-old small barrels) comes primarily from a parcel of 120-year-old vines in the northern part of the appellation in the lieu-dit known as Farguerol. This cuvee has only been made in vintages such as 1989, 1990, 1995, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005, 2006, and now 2007. Deep ruby/purple in color ...Read More »

2015 Domaine Giraud "Les Grenaches de Pierre" Chateauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Les Grenaches de Pierre comes from 1.7 hectares of sandy soils in the La Crau and Pignan lieux-dits, and there’s less than 200 cases produced in a vintage. It shows a slightly darker, more peppery style, with lots of black cherries, wild strawberries, spice and licorice in its full-bodied, structured, yet still seamless style. It has a stacked mid-palate and blockbuster length, but patience will be your friend here. Under the inspired leadership of Marie Giraud, with assistance from consultant Philippe Cambie, this e ...Read More »

2001 Château Rayas Châuteauneuf-du-Pape Réservé

95 points Wine & Spirits: "(No tasting note given.)" (10/2004) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Rayas Chateauneuf du Pape is more structured and slightly deeper ruby-colored than the light-colored 2000. It also possesses more acidity as well as depth. This terroir-driven effort reveals aromas of raspberries and sweet kirsch as well as a medium-bodied, vigorously fresh, lively style. There is also good flavor authority. (RP)" (2/2004) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Nose initially dominated by meat, toasted nuts and orange peel; showed a lively raspberry aroma with aeration. Tight, dense and peppery on entry, then lush and silky ...Read More »

2015 Clos Saint Jean "Deus Ex Machina" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

95-98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deeper, more masculine, graphite-laced and structured, the 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Deux Ex Machina (60/40 Grenache and Mourvèdre) always shows a huge, meaty, roasted herb, kirsch and darker fruit profile. Like the other 2015s here, it shines for its purity, but this is a big, mouth-filling and unctuous beauty that’s both a hedonistic and intellectual turn on. The two Maurel brothers, along with the ever-present Philippe Cambie, have brought this large estate up to the pinnacle of the Châteauneuf du Pape hierarchy, and they’ve produced so many monumen ...Read More »

2015 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (Pre-Arrival)

94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes checks in as 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah and the rest Mourvèdre and Cinsault, with 30% whole cluster. Its ruby/opaque color is following by terrific notes of cassis, cracked pepper, licorice and distinct minerality. Full-bodied, concentrated and with building tannin, it shows the more finesse-driven style of all of the 2015s, has fine tannin and a great finish. One of the finest run estates in all of Châteauneuf du Pape is Domaine de la Janasse, which is managed today by the brother and sister pair of Chr ...Read More »

2015 Clos Saint-Jean "Combe des Fous" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Pre-Arrival)

94-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 reds from these two brothers are some of the gems in the vintage. The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape La Combe des Fous is another sensational wine. Full-bodied, gorgeously concentrated and yet with the ever present elegance and finesse this cuvée always possesses, it offers layers of black raspberries, crème de cassis, white flowers, licorice and cured meat-like aromas and flavors. It will certainly be one of the top handful of wines in the vintage. The two Maurel brothers, along with the ever-present Philippe Cambie, have brought this large estate ...Read More »

2015 Château Beaucastel Roussanne Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Vieilles Vignes (Pre-Arrival)

94-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better than the Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc, the richer, more concentrated 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape Roussanne Vieilles Vignes comes from a single parcel of vines located beside the Chateau that were planted in 1909. Full-bodied, rich, gorgeously concentrated and textured, with fabulous notes of orange blossom, buttered citrus, marmalade and honey, it will be up with the crème de la crème of the vintage. It’s worth noting that since 2009, the estate has changed the viticulture with regards to their whites, moving to slightly larger yields, with the goa ...Read More »

1990 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Réservée" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A big step up, and showing that the warmer, richer years dish out the most pleasure at maturity, the 1990 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve is drop-dead gorgeous, and close to my favorite of the night. Possessing a thrillingly complex, mature feel, with full-bodied richness and a layered, textured and seamless mouthfeel, this puppy was singing, with loads of lavender, peppery herbs, game and dried flower-like aromas and flavors. I don’t see it getting any better, and would drink it while it still has this voluptuous, hedonistic slant that makes it such a ...Read More »

2005 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Laurence" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Laurence appears to be the finest example of this wine since the 1998. Wonderfully rich, concentrated notes of roasted Provencal herbs, jammy black cherries, new saddle leather, and loamy soil are present in this stunningly rich, full-bodied wine. With excellent concentration, moderate tannin, and fabulous length as well as intensity, it should be released in 2009-2010, and will keep for 20-25 years." (10/2008) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This old-school version shows the dense, grippy profile of the vintage, with a great tannic backbone running thr ...Read More »
