2015 Chante Cigale "L'Apostrophe" Mediterranée (Previously $13)

Chante Cigale means singing cicada (a type of grasshopper/cricket). The property has been in the family since the 19th century and is currently run by Alexandre Favier who assumed the reins at the ripe old age of 20. The domaine is planted to 40 ha of red and 5 ha of white on 45 different parcels throughout the appellation. L'Apostrophe is a blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah grown in Travaillan, about 15 km from Châteauneuf-du-Pape. This is a fresh and fruity everyday sipper to drink early and often.

2010 E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape Top Pick!
2010 E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A stunning effort and showing the class of the vintage, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is comprised of 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre that spent 24 months in foudre prior to bottling. Rich, textured and medium to full-bodied, with ample black cherry, olive tapenade and subtle meatiness, this traditional effort stays pure and lively, with fine tannin emerging on the finish. (JD)" (12/2013) 93 points Vinous: "Vivid ruby-red. Suave, smoke-tinged red fruit and floral pastille aromas show very good clarity and licorice and cracked pepper add complexity. 2014 Baron de Montfaucon Châteauneuf-du-Pape

One of our most popular direct imports, the price-to-quality ratio we've found in these wines year after year is simply unbeatable. Our customers have come to rely on this family-run winery to provide great quality, drinkability and value. The 2014 is the first vintage of Chateauneuf du Pape produced by Montfaucon. A single hectare of mostly old vine grenache yields a deliciously balanced and refined CDP that shows the integrity of Rudi des Pins winemaking and honest representation of the region. A stellar bargain for sure. The Wine Advocate agrees: ... Read More »

2014 Clos Saint Jean "Vieilles Vignes" Châteauneuf-du-Pape Top Pick!
2014 Clos Saint Jean "Vieilles Vignes" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

92-94 points Vinous: "Brilliant ruby. A powerfully scented bouquet evokes ripe red and dark berries, incense and pungent flowers, and a smoky Indian spice nuance builds in the glass. Fleshy and broad on entry and then tighter in the middle, offering juicy, concentrated black raspberry and boysenberry flavors given spine by juicy acidity. Rich yet energetic, finishing with outstanding clarity and sweet persistence and shaped by smooth tannins. 2014 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape is a beautiful wine in the vintage, and Marc compares it to the 2012. I’m not sure I agree, but there’s no denying the quality in this 2014. Sporting a deep ruby color and terrific notes of blackberries, ground herbs, pepper and Provençal s pice, it shows the more forward, charming nature of the vintage and is medium to full-bodied, pure and balanced. Drink it anytime over the coming decade. (JD)" (10/2016) 91-93 points Vinous: "Deep ruby. 2005 Domaine de la Vieille Julienne Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The most masculine and structured of the group, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape is locked and loaded, with serious concentration, big tannin and no shortage of length on the finish. Coming from a year that featured a cool summer and then scorching temps around harvest, this beauty doles out loads of creme de cassis, licorice, graphite and crushed rock-like minerality, as well as a seamless, perfectly balanced profile. Give it another 2-3 years and drink it through 2025. (JD)" (8/2014) 95 points Rhone Report: "Taking the better part of the evening to open up, the 2005 Domaine de la Vi ...Read More »

2005 Domaine du Pégaü "Cuvée Laurence" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Laurence appears to be the finest example of this wine since the 1998. Wonderfully rich, concentrated notes of roasted Provencal herbs, jammy black cherries, new saddle leather, and loamy soil are present in this stunningly rich, full-bodied wine. With excellent concentration, moderate tannin, and fabulous length as well as intensity, it should be released in 2009-2010, and will keep for 20-25 years." 2015 Le Vieux Donjon Châteauneuf-du-Pape

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Châteauneuf du Pape is a classic blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault, mostly from rolled stone terroirs, that was partially destemmed and will see 15 months all in foudre. It boasts a deep ruby/purple color as well as full-bodied richness, sweet tannin and textbook Southern Rhône notes of cured meats, toasted spice, garrigue and ample red and black fruits. It will have two decades or more of prime drinking. Along with a small handful of other estates, I consider Claire Michel’s le Vieux Donjon at the top of the hea ...Read More »

2009 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Wine Spectator: "Sinewy and reserved, with a light dusting of cocoa powder over the tangy damson plum, red licorice and cassis notes. The long, supple finish, with a lovely wafting note of Lapsang souchong tea, is packed with minerality and tight-grained tannins that will need time to fully evolve. One of the more backward 2009s, though this should pick up steam in the cellar. Best from 2013 through 2025. (JM)" (11/2011) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Considered by Paul-Vincent to be a hypothetical blend of the '05 and the '07, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape was showing its Mourvedre component on this occ ...Read More »

2014 Château Beaucastel Roussanne Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Vieilles Vignes

96 points James Suckling: "100% roussanne planted in 1909, there's a low yielding concentration. The richness and texture is impressive, but it has a lightness, too. Bright peach and chalky minerals, with iodine and saline. Fresh and long. A great vintage with decades ahead.(NS)" (8/2015) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This is on the bold side of the ledger, with a nearly exotic display of creamed peach, mango and papaya flavors, lined with just enough light citrus and floral notes to stay honest. Piecrust and orange sabayon details line the finish. Drink now through 2024. (JM)" (11/2016) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A big step up over the cla ...Read More »

Super-rich with layers of glycerin and fruit, this full-bodied classic smells like a Provencal open-air fruit and vegetable market. Loaded with slightly blacker fruits than its 2011 counterpart, there are also hints of charcuterie, spice box, cedar and Christmas fruitcake in this full-throttle, rich, concentrated wine. Full-bodied, powerful, dense, with a complete personality, it exhibits terrific peppery, licorice-infused, black currant and kirsch-like fruit, a broad, savory, expansive mouthfeel, and a powerful, long finish with sweet but not very noticeable tannins. 2011 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the stars of the vintage and coming from absurdly low yields of 18 hectoliters per hectare, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape is a full-bodied, seamless effort that exhibits copious kirsch, ground pepper, dried flowers and underbrush as well as incredibly fine tannin, great mid-palate concentration and ample length on the finish. Relatively forward by this estate’s standards, it will be approachable at an earlier age than normal. Nevertheless, it will have 20+ years of evolution and is an awesome effort in the vintage. It has full-bodied richness, notable tannin structure and is already complex and hard to resist. The blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, 12% Syrah and 3% Cinsault starts off with lovely notes of wild thyme and dark fruit, then adds herbal complexity and chocolaty richness. It's full bodied yet firm, with some dusty but elegant tannins on the finish. With a medium bodied intensity, it has a beautiful red fruit expression with some savoury notes. Harmony, finesse and elegance are probably the three words that best describe this beauty. Full-bodied, voluptuous and layered, it doesn’t pull any punches, yet never seems over-the-top, heavy or cumbersome. Coming almost all from the Chapouin lieu-dit (it gets a small bit from La Janasse), it gives up the classic notes of black berries, spring flowers, violets, and licorice that I always seem to find in this cuvee. Offers a broad and woodsy feel through the finish, with singed cedar and juniper details pumping throughout, delivering ample flesh and fruit for balance. This has grip to burn and should cruise in the cellar. (JM)" (2/2016) 93 points Vinous: "Bright ruby-red. A highly perfumed and complex bouquet evokes mineral-accented dried cherries, raspberry liqueur, garrigue and potpourri. Sweet, ...Read More »

2003 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Chaupin was smoking good, with awesome herbes de Provence, pepper, garrigue and sweet Grenache-driven fruit. Full-bodied and rich, with sweet tannin, I loved it, and would plan on drinking bottles over the coming couple of years as well. (JD)" (8/2014) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Lilting, perfumy style, with alluring violet, raspberry, black cherry and plum notes that glide across the palate. This gains intensity through the finish, picking up the vintage's tarry aspect, yet stays remarkably fresh and Burgundian in style. Best from 2006 ...Read More »

2009 Clos Saint-Jean "Combe des Fous" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A wine that blew me away, and the best bottle of this I've tasted, the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Combe des Fous gave up exotic and intense aromas and flavors of ground pepper, kirsch liqueur, incense, white chocolate and crushed flowers. About as seamless and sexy as they come, this extraordinary Chateauneuf boasts incredible concentration, no hard edges and insane length on the finish. Much more forward and open than the 2010, drink it over the coming 10 to 15 years (JD)." (8/2014) 94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Full ruby. An exotic, highly perfumed bouquet evokes red and dark berry pr ...Read More »

1999 Clos des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A solid step up over the '98, the Close des Papes 1999 Chateauneuf du Pape (one of Paul-Vincent's favorites) offers a more youthful color to go with Burgundian notes of spice, dried flowers, black cherries and licorice. More fresh and lively, with medium to full-bodied richness, it has a youthful feel and has another decade of longevity. (JD)" (9/2015) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Moderately saturated red-ruby. Complex nose melds redcurrant, kirsch, iron, tobacco, mocha and spices. Chewy, intensely flavored and fairly deep, but rather tight following the bottling. As usual for this e ...Read More »

2006 Domaine Pierre Usseglio Châteauneuf-du-Pape "Tradition"

91 points Wine Spectator: "High-toned, with cherry and red currant fruit laced with shiso leaf, mineral, sandalwood and spice notes. The finish is supple but persistent." (11/2008) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape a blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and the rest Mourvedre and Cinsault, aged in tank (20%) and old wood foudres (80%), reveals classic Provencal typicity with its notes of sweet black cherries, lavender, licorice, roasted herbs, and meat. Soft and lush with a luxurious mouthfeel as well as a stunningly silky texture, this beauty can be enjoyed over the next 10-12 years. What ...Read More »

2010 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape (3L)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is a traditional blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the rest Mourvedre and Cinsault from 50-year-old vines aged in a combination of concrete tanks, old wood foudres and small old barrels. It displays notes of charcuterie, roasted meats, garrigue, kirsch and black currants along with a full-bodied, seriously endowed, super-concentrated mouthfeel that builds like a skyscraper in the mouth. This cuvee possesses remarkable density and richness as well as the potential to last 20 years. An old estate, Chante Cigale, which owns n ...Read More »

2000 Domaine du Clos du Caillou "Réserve les Clos du Caillou" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly the wine of the vintage is the 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve Le Clos du Cailloux. I tasted this wine four times from bottle, and it has blown away some tough competition. A wealth of fruit, power, and balance, amazing purity, and a sumptuous, 65-second finish are the stuff of legends. As usual, it is a blend of 45% Grenache, 40% Mourvedre, and the rest Syrah as well as miscellaneous varietals. The Mourvedre must be picked incredibly ripe as there is never any of that grape's astringency or toughness. However, being an anti-oxidant varietal, I ...Read More »

2005 Château La Nerthe "Cuvée des Cadettes" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Cadettes was one of the first luxury cuvees of old vines made in Chateauneuf du Pape, the first vintage originating in 1972. There are usually anywhere from 500 to 1000 cases of it. A real stunner, and just being released on the market, is the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Cadettes. A magnificent wine with deep ruby/purple color, a wonderfully sweet focus, aromatics of blue and black fruits intermixed with graphite, a hint of charcoal, and some earth and subtle Provencal herbs, the wine is full-bodied and has great ...Read More »

2015 Le Clos du Caillou "La Réserve" Côtes du Rhône

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Probably the Côtes du Rhône of the vintage (which is not unusual), the 2015 Côtes du Rhône Reserve got a few expletives in the notes and is a giant killer! Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by awesome notes of black raspberries, graphite, crushed herbs and licorice. Full-bodied, incredibly pure and elegant, with serious depth and power, it’s a fabulous effort that I’d be thrilled to have in the cellar. (JD)" (10/2016) K&L Notes: The story of this remarkable estate is personified in the "La Reserve" bottling. In the mid-1930s, a team of surveyors traveled all thr... Read More »
