2013 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape Top Pick!
2013 Chante Cigale Châteauneuf-du-Pape

91 points Vinous: "Deep red. Fresh, mineral-tinged red and dark berry scents are given depth by suggestions of licorice and cola. Sappy raspberry and boysenberry flavors show very good depth and pick up a suave lavender pastille nuance on the back half. Concentrated yet lively, delivering strong thrust and smooth, even tannins that build steadily through a long, floral-dominated finish. (JR)" (4/2016) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Solidly ripe, with an ample core of raspberry, plum and blackberry puree notes, pushed by a lively licorice edge. 2013 Raymond Usseglio "Cuvée Impériale-Vignes Centenaires" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Given the difficulty with Grenache in 2013, the Grenache-dominated 2013 Châteauneuf du Pape Imperiale (Vigne Centenaires) is a head-turner that offers terrific notes of plum, black cherries, mulberries, dried flowers and licorice. (JD)" (10/2015) 91 points Vinous: "Brilliant ruby. Fresh blackberry, cherry cola and potpourri aromas are energized by a peppery nuance. 2009 Domaine de la Jaufrette Châteauneuf-du-Pape

According to the importer, Paris Wine Company: "The wines of Domaine de la Jaufrette are resolutely old-fashioned, as the domaine has refused to change the winemaking style since the André and Paulette Chastan moved to Orange in the 1950s... Today, the Domaine de la Jaufrette is run by Alain’s son Frederic, who has maintained the same traditional winemaking philosophy. Vinification is a slow process - the fermentation occurs naturally in large concrete tanks, where the wine is allowed to sit for up to a year. It is then aged in a mix of used foudres and ... It shows the purity and balance of the vintage, and will dish out loads of pleasure over the coming decade or more.(JD) In case you haven’t been following any of the Wine Advocate reports over the past decade, Domaine de La Janasse, under the leadership of siblings Christophe and I ...Read More »

2010 Raymond Usseglio "Cuvée Impériale, Vignes Centenaires" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for perfection, the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Imperiale Vignes Centenaire is clearly the greatest wine I have ever tasted from Raymond Usseglio, even eclipsing their remarkable 2007. Don’t be surprised if it merits a three-digit score in five or six years. Somewhat closed, but bursting with potential, the wine is inky/purple to the rim and boasts abundant amounts of concentrated, jammy blackberry, kirsch, licorice, lavender, forest floor, white chocolate and a hint of truffles in its magnificent perfume. Some tannins appear in the mouth, ...Read More »

It’s drinking at point for me, and I’d consume bottles over the coming couple of years while it’s showing so well. (JD)" (8/2014) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light red. Superlong, with mineral, violet, pepper and additional crushed cherry and plum fruit notes all gliding through the finish. Best from 2011 through 2027. 2012 Domaine la Barroche "Signature" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Previously $56)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Showing slightly better now than it did on release (which is common for all of Julien's wines, and the '12s in general), the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Signature is a blend of 65% Grenache, 16% Mourvedre, 13% Syrah and 6% other permitted varieties. It's young and fruity, yet still delivers tons of pleasure with its cassis, licorice, crushed flower and garrigue aromas and flavors. 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2001 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (96RP, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beaucastel has been on a terrific qualitative roll over the last four vintages, and the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape (which Francois Perrin feels is similar to the 1990, although I don’t see that as of yet) is a 15,000-case blend of 30% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre, 10% Syrah, 10% Counoise, and the balance split among the other permitted varietals of the appellation. This inky/ruby/purple-colored cuvee offers a classic Beaucastel bouquet of new saddle leather, cigar smoke, roasted herbs, black truffles, underbrush, and blackberry as well as cherry fruit. It is a superb, earthy expression of this Mourvedre-dominated cuvee. Full-bodied and powerful, it will undoubtedly close down over the next several years, not to re-emerge for 7-8 years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2025. (RP)" (02/2004)

Despite being predominantly Grenache, it is reminiscent of an elegant northern Rhône Syrah with the texture of a Pinot. With a medium bodied intensity, it has a beautiful red fruit expression with some savoury notes. Harmony, finesse and elegance are probably the three words that best describe this beauty. Almost all Grenache (there's a small part of Syrah and Cinsault) that was harvest between September 1-13, partially destemmed and aged in both tank and foudre, this massive, voluptuous effort is almost overflowing with notes of ground herbs, chocolate dusted meats, black fruits and licorice. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " Starting with the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Reserve, this wine showed spectacularly on release, closed down for a few years, and has now emerged, at close to full maturity, and is straight-up fabulous. Out of the entire tasting, it remained my favorite. Giving up gorgeous blackberry, currants, garrigue, pepper and beef blood, it hits the palate with a massive, full-bodied texture that carries layers of sweet fruit, awesome concentration and blockbuster length. (11/2015) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Starting with the whites and made from 60% Roussanne and 40% Grenache Blanc that was raised in one- to three-year-old demi-muids, the 2014 Châteauneuf du Pape Blanc Extrait (Roussanne) is racy and lean, with pretty notes of buttered citrus, honeysuckle and toasted bread. Coming almost all from the Chapouin lieu-dit (it gets a small bit from La Janasse), it gives up the classic notes of black berries, spring flowers, violets, and licorice that I always seem to find in this cuvee. Yet today, with the wine at maturity, all of that controversy has been put to bed and I know of no one contesting the beauty of this wine - the 2007 vintage in Chateauneuf du Pape will be the same. Thick and creamy on the palate, with flavors of kirsch, spicy strawberry and plum jam. This is carrying about 16% alcohol but it's detectible only in a bit of warmth on the finish. 2004 Bois de Boursan "Cuvée Felix" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made by Jean-Paul Versino and the top wine of the estate, the 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Felix is a fantastic effort in the vintage. Smelling like a street market in the south of France with its cured meats, herbes de Provence, saddle leather, earth and sweet core of fruit, it is medium to full-bodied, balanced, textured and has notable structure that emerges with time in the glass. In short, it’s a beautifully made, traditional Chateauneuf du Pape to enjoy over the coming decade. (JD)" (2/2014) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Very solid. This is packed with black currant and fig ...Read More »

2013 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe "La Crau" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

92 points Vinous: "Limpid ruby. A highly expressive bouquet evokes ripe red berries, potpourri and peppery spices, and a smoky mineral nuance gains strength as the wine opens up. Offers concentrated raspberry liqueur and spicecake flavors and deeper licorice and bitter chocolate flavors sharpened and given spine by juicy acidity. Effortlessly plays richness off elegance and finishes sweet, spicy and impressively long, with velvety tannins lending shape and grip. (JR)" (4/2016) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Rather perfumy up front, with savory, mint and incense notes leading the way for silky cherry and r ...Read More »

2008 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (1.5L)

93 points Wine Spectator: "*Collectibles* Ripe and very sleek, with a dense core of cassis, blackberry and anise framed by violet and spice. The long finish drips with juicy fruit and subtle toast, with a flash of iron boding well for cellaring. Shows great freshness and balance for the vintage. Drink now through 2024." (6/2011) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Vivid ruby. Enticing aromas of raspberry, dried flowers and spice cake. Sweet and penetrating, offering sappy flavors of red and dark berries, candied flowers and chewing tobacco. Combines depth and juiciness smoothly, finishing with gentle grip and persist ...Read More »

1998 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "A big, rich wine with huge amounts of fruit oozing out of the glass. Great concentration and intensity, with licorice flavors from the Mourvèdre, finishing with chewy tannins." (12/2001) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Very youthful, with a juicy blast of red plum and fig fruit flavors on a racy frame, this also has plenty of spice, tar, plum cake and mineral in reserve, as the finish shows more structure and slowly darkens with time in the glass. Only just starting to hit its stride. (JM)" (9/2007) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The atypically Grenache-dominated 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape is fully mature and gives up ton ...Read More »

2007 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Revealing a touch of darker gold in its color, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc is another blockbuster that continues to shine every time I've opened a bottle. Ripe, decadent and supple, it has boatloads of honeycomb, caramelized citrus, brioche and ripe tropical fruits to go with a gorgeously textured feel on the palate. (JD)" (9/2015) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Very ripe, but pure and well-defined, with lush mango, dried pineapple, Jonagold apple and Cavaillon melon notes, all laced with heather honey and brioche hints. The long, creamy finish lets a stony note ripple through. ( ...Read More »

2001 Château Rayas Châuteauneuf-du-Pape Réservé

95 points Wine & Spirits: "(No tasting note given.)" (10/2004) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Rayas Chateauneuf du Pape is more structured and slightly deeper ruby-colored than the light-colored 2000. It also possesses more acidity as well as depth. This terroir-driven effort reveals aromas of raspberries and sweet kirsch as well as a medium-bodied, vigorously fresh, lively style. There is also good flavor authority. (RP)" (2/2004) 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Nose initially dominated by meat, toasted nuts and orange peel; showed a lively raspberry aroma with aeration. Tight, dense and peppery on entry, then lush and silky ...Read More »

2007 Clos du Mont Olivet "La Cuvée du Papet" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape La Cuvee du Papet may will turn out to be their finest example since the 1998 and 1990. Stylistically, it probably comes closest to resembling the legendary 1990. Notes of roasted meats and smoked duck, with Provencal herbs, truffle, incense, licorice, and pepper, are all there, plus enormous quantities of red and black fruits. This is one heck of a complex wine, with a bouquet that is the essence of southern France, in particular Provence. Full-bodied, powerful, with the glycerin and level of richness covering some lofty tan ...Read More »

2010 La Bastide Saint Dominique Châteauneuf-du-Pape

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The reasonably priced 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape is a slightly downsized version of the Secrets de Pignan. There is more Syrah in the blend and perhaps that is the reason for its spectrum of darker fruits than the Pignan. There is a lot to like here with copious floral notes intermixed with black currant and black cherry fruit as well as hints of sandy soils and balsam wood. Full, rich and very natural tasting, this beauty can be drunk now and over the next decade." (10/2012) 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine boasts a lifted, briary overtone to its aromas of bright Maraschino cherr ...Read More »
