2007 Château de Montfaucon "Baron Louis" Côtes du Rhône

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A new discovery for me, the 2007 Cotes du Rhone (a 4,000+-case blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Syrah, Cinsault, and Counoise) is a seriously built, concentrated, powerful effort displaying notes of garrigue, pepper, lavender, kirsch, and black currants. It also exhibits that wonderful seaweed wrapper (nori) scent that seems to be a characteristic of many southern Rhone wines. (RP)" (10/2009) Wine Spectator: "Ripe and still youthful, offering a solid core of blackberry and boysenberry fruit, liberally laced with dark licorice and sweet spice notes. The still-fleshy finish is ...Read More »

2007 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (375ml)

97 points Vinous: "(based on 70% mourvedre) Opaque ruby color. Remarkably complex bouquet of dark berry compote, potpourri, sandalwood, smoked meat and licorice, complemented by a smoky mineral overtone. Broad, palate-coating dark fruit flavors pick up notes of candied flowers and licorice with air and show a pungent Indian spice character. Becomes more floral with air and leaves sweet cherry and floral pastille notes behind. I'd buy all of this that I could afford. 2007 Xavier Vins "Cuvée Anonyme" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Except for Henri Bonneau's 2007 Reserve des Celestins (which is still in barrel), the last 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape to be released will be Xavier Vignon’s Anonyme. This sensational wine spent three years in a combination of demi-muids and small oak. It boasts an inky/purple color along with a sweet nose of underbrush, garrigue, licorice, blackberries and black currants. Full, thick, unctuously textured and even flamboyant, this stunning 2007 should drink well for another 15-20 years... 2007 Domaine de Cristia Châteauneuf-du-Pape

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I find the 2007 vintage to be one of the most distinctive vintages in the past two decades, and Cristia's 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape has the classic incense, lavender, flowers and spice characteristics of the vintage in spades. Full-bodied, decadent, layered and sexy, it's one seriously hedonistic wine that has no hard edges, a full, ripe mid-palate and a great finish (JD)." 2007 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine de la Janasse "Chaupin" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (99RP, 98RR, 94VN, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I’ve drunk over a case of the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée Chaupin from my cellar, and this was easily one of the finest bottles (it was from magnum) I’ve ever had. Made from close to 100% Grenache and brought up in foudre, it’s a crazy good, monumental beauty that offers loads of ripe blackberries, black raspberries, crushed flowers and garrigue aromas and flavors. Concentrated, layered and unctuous, with a to-die-for texture, no hard edges and a huge finish, this beauty is still youthful and is just now starting to show hints of maturity. When it’s this good, I can’t recommend waiting, but I’ve no doubt this will continue to offer this level of quality for at least another decade. (JD)" (02/2017)

2007 Château de Fonsalette Côtes-du-Rhône

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright red. Black raspberry and floral aromas are complemented by Asian spices, anise and white pepper. Racy, finely etched red berry and cherry flavors stain the palate and become deeper and sweeter with air. Shows no rough edges and finishes with superb focus and sweet, sappy persistence. This puts most Chateauneufs in the shade. (JR)" (2/2010) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I have followed the Fonsalette Cotes du Rhones since the mid-1960s, and it is a candidate for one of the finest and longest-lived Cotes du Rhones in nearly every top vintage. 2007 Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe "La Crau" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (375ml)

96+ points Robert Parker: "The 2007 Vieux Telegraphe may be the greatest wine made at this property since the 2005 and 1998. Dense ruby/purple-tinged with an exquisite nose of salty sea breezes, licorice, ground pepper, jammy black cherries, black currants, figs, and plums, this is a full-bodied, rich, Provencal-styled offering with lots of sweet, ripe tannin. It is surprisingly accessible for a Vieux Telegraphe (this wine normally shuts down several years after bottling), but it should have great longevity (25+ years) given its power, full-bodied mouthf... 2007 M. Chapoutier "Croix de Bois" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Croix de Bois comes from the eastern sector of Chateauneuf du Pape near Bedarrides. Its dense plum/purple color is accompanied by a big, sweet bouquet of licorice, roasted Provencal herbs, meat juices, kirsch, black raspberries, and black currants. Deep, full-bodied, and rich, this beauty is ideal for drinking over the next 10-15+ years. 2007 Domaine de Ferrand Châteauneuf-du-Pape

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the wines of the vintage is the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape from Philippe Bravey, and I’ve drunk more than a case of this wine and have consistently rated it at the upper end of the spectrum (however, some bottles suffer from too much volatile acidity). Big, full-bodied, layered and unctuous, it has a huge nose of garrigue, black fruits, saddle leather and licorice. I absolutely love this wine and would happily drink bottles over the coming decade. Made from 90% Grenache and the rest Mourvèdre and Syrah, it offers rich, full-bodied aromas and flavors of roasted Provencal herbs, charred meats, olives and bloody meat. Beautifully textured, concentrated, authoritatively flavored and a big mouthful of a Chateauneuf du Pape, it will continue to drink beautifully for another decade or more. (JD)" (2/2017)

Made from 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah that was aged in equal parts barrels and tanks, it offers a ripe, pedal-to-the-metal bouquet of ripe black fruits, charred meats, pan drippings, saddle leather and garrigue that continues to open up with time in ...Read More »

Ripe, full-bodied and showing the purity, complexity and seamlessness that’s the hallmark of this vintage (and the estate), it’s drinking at point but will keep for another 7-8 years with no issues. (JD)" (2/2017) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Fresh, pure and well-defined, with a beam of dark currant, fig and boysenberry fruit kept honest by graphite and black tea notes. Opulent, even flamboyant, this stunning 2007 should drink nicely for 3-4 years. One of the most impressive estates in the Costieres de Nimes (a treasure-trove of value-priced wines), Mourgues du Gres’ reds and whites are all worth checking out by consumers looking to maximizing their buying power." Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (100RP, 96ST, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A bigger, richer, more concentrated wine than the ethereally textured Cuvee Chaupin, the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvée Vieilles Vignes is unquestionably one of the wines of the vintage as well as one of the finest Chateauneuf du Papes ever made. Offering notes of cassis, roasted meats, beef blood and licorice, this heavenly 2007 is full-bodied, hugely concentrated and rich yet shows incredible purity, focus and precision, with no sensation of heaviness or weight. Possessing beautiful kirsch, blackberry, candied licorice, flowers and lavender, it offers knockout richness and decadence to go with brilliant purity of fruit, superb concentration, and a full-bodied, layered mouthfeel. 2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Pierre Usseglio "Reserve des Deux Freres" (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The perfect 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Reserve des Deux Freres is slightly more evolved and complex than the Mon Aieul, as odd as that seems. Having had it twice out of bottle, this wine (nearly 100% Grenache combined with a few dollops of Syrah) possesses an opaque ruby/purple color as well as a thrilling texture and monumental length (the finish lasts over 60 seconds). it's a blockbuster, but everything is in perfect balance, and, remarkably, it comes across as the most accessible Reserve des Deux Freres made to date. The long, flashy finish lets pastis and Black Forest cake notes emerge. This has some toast to absorb, but it's all there. Best from 2010 through 2025. 2007 Les Cailloux (Lucien et André Brunel) "Cuvée Centenaire" Châteauneuf-du-Pape

His limited cuvee of approximately 500 cases of the 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Centenaire (made from 80% Grenache aged in foudre, and the balance Syrah and Mourvedre aged in one- to three-year-old small barrels) comes primarily from a parcel of 120-year-old vines in the northern part of the appellation in the lieu-dit known as Farguerol. A wine of great intensity, it boasts thrilling aromas of orange marmalade, nectarine liqueur, honeysuckle, peaches, and apricots. Stunningly rich with full body, terrific acidity, and a finish that lasts 45+ seconds, this is an amazing achievement. Offering a port-like bouquet of blackberry jam, beef blood, black licorice and roasted herbs, it hits the palate with an incredible amount of fruit and texture yet always stays balanced, fresh and lively, with a finish that just won’t quit. An inky/ruby/purple color is followed by a glorious nose of blue and black fruits, truffles, pen ink, licorice, and meat juices as well as glorious levels of acidity and sweet tannin, buttressing the fruit’s fabulous freshness and vibrancy. This full-bodied effort still displays considerable tannin, no doubt because of the relatively high Mourvedre content. It should resolve its tannins in 2-4 years, and last for 25 or more.
