2013 Thomas Fogarty Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir Top Pick!
2013 Thomas Fogarty Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Though not one of the producer's single-vineyard bottlings, this estate blend manages to stun the nose and palate nonetheless. Tart mulberry, Kalamata olive, hibiscus, rose hips, red plum and sandalwood aromas wrestle attention immediately, then the sip delivers bergamot, cedar ash, exotic cranberry and rosemary depth. It delivers an excellent combination of wood, fruit and herb. (MK)" (10/2016) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A killer value, there’s roughly 4,000 cases of the 2013 Pinot Noir from the Santa Cruz Mountains, and it saw 33% whole clusters and 11 months in ...Read More »

2013 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "One of the greatest Chardonnays made in California each vintage, this bottling blends riper elements of yellow peach and honey with the tension of tangerine rind and pink-grapefruit pith on the nose. The palate is very energetic and tangy, with orange peels, crushed sea shells and a touch of salt hanging from an extremely well-chiseled structure. (MK)" (11/2016) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Pure silk on the palate, the 2013 Chardonnay Estate offers textbook notes of buttered apples, brioche, toasted bread and hints of minerality to go with medium to full-bodied richness, beautiful pur ...Read More »

2013 Varner "Upper Picnic Vineyard-Spring Ridge Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

94 points Vinous: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Upper Picnic is endowed with a real sense of explosive energy that elevates it in this range. The flavors are dark and intense throughout, but it is the wine's center and overall depth that are most compelling at this stage. Still quite primary, the Upper Picnic could use a few years in bottle to enter the sweet spot. The Upper Picnic offers a compelling interplay of intensity and freshness. These own-rooted vines were planted in 1981. I have to admit, my most recent tasting with Bob and Jim Varner was bittersweet. The Varners have e ...Read More »

Offering fabulous notes of black cherries, currants, crushed rocks and sous bois, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, building tannin and a killer finish. This is a sensational Pinot Noir that can be enjoyed today, or cellared for a decade or more. A very firm structure weaves together an incredibly well-integrated wine, with dense mulberry and dried-fennel notes that morph into crushed herbs with time. Drink 2018-2032. 2013 Thomas Fogarty Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice and #14 in Best 100 of 2016* From one of the preeminent Chardonnay producers in the country comes their least expensive yet perhaps most stunning bottling, showing strong lemon rind, sea salt, Gravenstein apple and a floral touch of honeysuckle on the nose. The wondrously zippy and saline palate is framed by a grippy, grapefruit-rind-led tension, but opens just enough to allow the slightest hints of lemon curd and delicate marzipan warmth. 95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*** Editors' Choice *** There’s a rugged earthiness and delicious meaty character to this fantastic bottling, which shows dried cranberries, dried olallieberry, smoked pork and hummingbird sage on the brawny nose. A similar power infects the palate, where red and black cherry meet with plum, mulberry, cola, shaved chocolate and a deepening sage character, finishing on crushed mint. (MK)" (8/2016)

Of the 2013 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon,Vinous writes: "The 2013 Monte Bello is utterly spellbinding in its beauty. Finely sculpted and chiseled, with super-expressive aromatics and searing tannins, the 2013 is shaping up to be a modern-day classic. The 2013 is remarkably pure and vibrant for such a big wine. It will be years before the 2013 is close to being ready to drink. Even so, it is magnificent today. Where will the 2013 end up? The future seems limitless for now. Quite simply, the 2013 is a must-have wine. In 2013, Monte Bello is very heavy in Cabernet Sauvignon, partly because Merlot suffered in the drought-like conditions. The 2

2015 Ridge "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

92 points Wine Spectator: "Minerally and intense, with plenty of buttery notes. This well spiced version pivots around a core of baked apple and pear tart flavors. Fresh and juicy midpalate, featuring a finish loaded with dried fig accents. (JL)" (4/2017) K&L Notes: This Chardonnay is sourced from Ridge's famed estate vineyard, Monte Bello, which has fractured limestone soils over decomposing Franciscan green stone mixed with clay and loam. 2014 Ridge Vineyards "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Vinous: "The 2014 Monte Bello is bright, precise and finely sculpted throughout, with a slightly more reddish leaning flavor profile than is found in some of the surrounding vintages. In 2014, Monte Bello is built on bright, pulsating acidity and energy. Relative to recent vintages such as 2012, 2013 and 2015, the 2014 is a bit compact and tightly wound. The slightly nervous style is likely to require at least a decade to be fully appreciated. The combination of the vintage and a bit more of a hands-off approach in the cellar has resulted in a deep, highly expressive Pinot Noir endowed with real class and personality. The inclusion of 50% whole clusters adds to the wine's aromatic and palate presence. The 2014 was not fined or filtered. Readers should expect a slightly cloudy wine. (AG)" (2/2016)

Deep and ample on the palate, the Picnic shows the more virile, masculine side of Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir. This is an especially dense, meaty Pinot Noir. Osocalis Rare Alambic California Brandy (750ml)

Osocalis is a small, artisanal distillery in Soquel, California. The name Osocalis is the original Native American name for Soquel, today part of the greater Santa Cruz area. They use a small (100-gallon) antique alambic Charentais still, imported from Cognac, to produce brandies using grapes and apples from the cooler coastal regions of California. They strive to create products that have the length, elegance and finesse of old world brandies, such as Cognac and Calvados, but with the fruit intensity and structure of California wines. 2004 Mount Eden Estate Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

Very primary, it tastes more like a barrel sample than a finished wine, but it possesses enormous potential because of its combination of elegance, structure, and intensity. It should be forgotten for 7-8 years, and drunk over the following three decades." (12/2007) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby. Today, the 2010 appears to be entering a closed phase, so it is best left alone for at least another 5-10 years, perhaps longer. The signatures are super-ripe, exotic fruit, sweet aromatics and firm tannins, all of which ensure the 2010 will be utterly magnificent in a few decades. The Hidden Block is one of the more delicate, acid-driven Pinots I have tasted from Varner. The gorgeously complex nose offers up scents of cherries, beetroot, pomegranate, a great, complex base of soil, vinesmoke, a touch of nutskin, fresh herbs and a lovely, discreet framing of new oak. A blockbuster, powerful, concentrated Monte Bello, it possesses an opaque purple color, plenty of spicy oak in the nose (100% American oak has always been used for aging Monte Bello), and a deep, layered, concentrated style. The team at Ridge let the fruit recover for two weeks following an early October storm before picking, and were more aggressive in their extraction than normal, drawing as much color and structure as possible from the delicate fruit. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and still very primary, with moderate tannins, lovely focus and grip, tangy acids and a long, classy and light on its feet finish. Beautiful juice. (Drink between 2018-2040)" (7/2014) 93 points Vinous: "The 2012 Pinot Noir Family Farm Vine ...Read More »

2009 Rhys "Skyline Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Syrah

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Opaque purple. A heady, floral bouquet evokes dark berry liqueur, cola, olive and candied violet. More densely packed and hefty than the Horseshoe bottling, offering lush blackberry and boysenberry flavors and suggestions of woodsmoke, floral pastilles and bitter chocolate. Aeration brings up an intense spicy quality that carries through a long, smoky, nicely focused finish. (ST)" (5/2012) K&L Notes: Producer note: The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards are made from organic and biodynamically farmed fruit. Owner Kevin Harvey and winemaker Jeff Brinkman continue to f... 2007 Rhys "Alpine Hillside" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Rhys "Alpine Hillside" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir ((94-96RP), 93BH, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Rhys Vineyards produces very ambitious wines from vines planted in specific sites in the Santa Cruz Mountains...it is almost impossible to latch on to a few bottles unless you are on the mailing list. The vineyards are generally tightly spaced (2 by 3 feet for Pinot Noir and 4 by 3 feet for Syrah), and the clonal selections are multiple in order to hopefully achieve more complexity and nuance. This is an impressive, well thought out operation, believing, certainly with Pinot Noir, in whole clusters, no racking, and a minimal, artisinal approach to winemaking. The yields are naturally very small because of the terroirs, rootstocks, and clones, and the wines are made to age. (RP)" (12/2008)

2007 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Rhys "Horseshoe Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir (94JG, 93BH, (90-93RP), 93ST). John Gilman: "I had never tasted the 2007 Horseshoe pinot from Rhys and it is another outstanding bottle in the making. In fact, it is going to be very difficult for a very long time choosing a favorite between the 2007 and the 2008 Horseshoe, as they are both stellar pinots. The nose on the ’07 is a superb and very black fruity mélange of cassis, dark berries, a touch of tariness, bitter chocolate, vinesmoke, very complex soil tones, and a nice touch of cedary wood. On the palate the wine is deep, full and very, very pure, with lovely, nascent complexity, a fine core, ripe, well-integrated tannins and outstanding length and grip on the focused and tangy finish. A very young and very, very classy bottle of pinot. (Drink between 2017-2040) 94+ points" (06/2011)

2012 Rhys San Mateo County Pinot Noir

92 points Vinous: "Crushed rose petals, mint, sweet red berries and cinnamon are some of the many notes that meld together in the 2012 Pinot Noir San Mateo. A wine of precision and nuance, the 2012 impresses for its balance. Sweet and savory notes from the inclusion of 60% whole clusters add lift on the finish. In 2012, the San Mateo is a blend of 60% Family Farm, 30% Horseshoe and 10% Alpine. (AG)" (7/2014) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend of 60% Family Farm, 30% Horseshoe and 10% Alpine Vineyard, the 2012 Pinot Noir San Mateo County offers lots of peppery herbs, kirsch, spice-box, cola and dried e ...Read More »

2012 Rhys "Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Rhys "Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay (96JG, 96RP, 94ST, 94VN, 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Chardonnay Alpine Vineyard is absolutely stunning! Giving up incredible notes of flinty minerality, green citrus, lemon curd and exotic flowers, this beautiful Chardonnay builds on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness, vibrant acidity and a clean, laser-focused finish that just keeps going. It continues to gain in richness with time in the glass, yet never loses its classy, pure and elegant demeanor. It should benefit from a year or more in the cellar and have a decade or more of prime drinking after that. (JD)" (04/2015)
