2013 Domaine Eden Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*#9 on the Enthusiast 100 of 2016, Editors' Choice* While this wine’s Mount Eden sister bottling may better stand the test of time, the Domaine Eden is what most people will most like to drink right now, and it’s cheaper too. Aromas of dried violets, uncrushed boysenberries and pencil lead make for an ethereal nose that seems to hold secrets one must uncover. Precise tannins on the palate offer floral yet savory flavors of black sesame, nori, violet and mulberry. It’s mellow yet mysterious. 2013 Thomas Fogarty Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice and #14 in Best 100 of 2016* From one of the preeminent Chardonnay producers in the country comes their least expensive yet perhaps most stunning bottling, showing strong lemon rind, sea salt, Gravenstein apple and a floral touch of honeysuckle on the nose. The wondrously zippy and saline palate is framed by a grippy, grapefruit-rind-led tension, but opens just enough to allow the slightest hints of lemon curd and delicate marzipan warmth. 2014 Martin Ray "Coast Grade Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*** Editors' Choice *** There’s a rugged earthiness and delicious meaty character to this fantastic bottling, which shows dried cranberries, dried olallieberry, smoked pork and hummingbird sage on the brawny nose. A similar power infects the palate, where red and black cherry meet with plum, mulberry, cola, shaved chocolate and a deepening sage character, finishing on crushed mint. (MK)" (8/2016)

2013 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Estate is one of the stars from the appellation, and the vintage. Offering fabulous notes of black cherries, currants, crushed rocks and sous bois, this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, building tannin and a killer finish. This is a sensational Pinot Noir that can be enjoyed today, or cellared for a decade or more. Looking at the 2013s from Jeffrey Patterson, these are serious wines that need to be on your short list for purchasing, and both the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are in the top handful of wines in t ...Read More »

2012 Mount Eden "Estate" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*** Cellar Selection *** Extremely elegant and restrained at first on the nose, this bottling eventually shows gravel and crushed rocks, with hints of blackberry and forest underbrush also emerging. A very firm structure weaves together an incredibly well-integrated wine, with dense mulberry and dried-fennel notes that morph into crushed herbs with time. Drink 2018-2032. (MK)" (12/2016) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate (78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot) is beautiful. 2013 Domaine Eden Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

93 points Vinous: "Domaine Eden's 2013 Chardonnay is subtle, poised and gracious to the core. Dried pear, dried flowers, sage, mint and chamomile grace the palate in this understated, exquisite Chardonnay. Hints of smoke, slate and dried pear reappear on the super-classic, expressive finish. What a gorgeous wine this is. Quite simply, the 2013 Domaine Eden Chardonnay is a tremendous wine for the money. In 2013, the blend is approximately 72% declassified Mt. 2014 Varner "Bee Block-Spring Ridge Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Clearly the star of the show, the 2014 Chardonnay Bee Block Spring Ridge Vineyard is the most complete, layered and persistent white in the lineup. Possessing medium to full-bodied richness, solid mid-palate depth and fabulous precision and focus, with classy notes of sauteed apples, crushed rocks, spice and flowers, it opens up beautifully with time in the glass and is a killer white that readers need to seek out. 2013 Varner "Upper Picnic Vineyard-Spring Ridge Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

94 points Vinous: "The 2013 Pinot Noir Upper Picnic is endowed with a real sense of explosive energy that elevates it in this range. The flavors are dark and intense throughout, but it is the wine's center and overall depth that are most compelling at this stage. Still quite primary, the Upper Picnic could use a few years in bottle to enter the sweet spot. The Upper Picnic offers a compelling interplay of intensity and freshness. The palate is very energetic and tangy, with orange peels, crushed sea shells and a touch of salt hanging from an extremely well-chiseled structure. 2014 Neely "Holly's Cuvée-Spring Ridge Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay (Previously $48)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Chardonnay Holly's Cuvee is a big, rich and sexy white that nevertheless manages to stay fresh, livey and pure. Possessing lots of tropical fruits, flower oil, honeysuckle and a hint of peach, it's already hard to resist, and I don't see any need to delay gratification either. I suspect this will be the last vintage made by Jim and Bob Varner, who no longer works with the fruit from the Spring Valley Vineyard. (JD)" (10/2016)

Inky dark red and blue-fleshed fruit, smoke, spices and licorice hit the palate as this exuberant, radiant Cabernet shows off its racy personality. They use a small (100-gallon) antique alambic Charentais still, imported from Cognac, to produce brandies using grapes and apples from the cooler coastal regions of California. They strive to create products that have the length, elegance and finesse of old world brandies, such as Cognac and Calvados, but with the fruit intensity and structure of California wines. The combination of the vintage and a bit more of a hands-off approach in the cellar has resulted in a deep, highly expressive Pinot Noir endowed with real class and personality. There is some underpinning of the salinity that makes the wines from this site so distinctive, but this is a freakishly ripe Chardonnay from Arnot-Roberts. Orange peel and exotic spice notes add to the wine's eccentric feel. The fruit was also picked a bit later than normal, because the acidity was too high for the wine's sugar ripeness. 2015 Calera Mt. Harlan Chardonnay

The Mt. Harlan Chardonnay Vineyard was planted in 1984 on the same south facing slope as the Mills Pinot Noir. This vineyard was planted on its own roots using plant material from stray Chardonnay vines that were found interspersed among the Pinot vines of the original vineyards. Each year, this vineyard yields only slightly more than 2 tons per acre of very intense flavorful Chardonnay fruit. Leaner and more mineral than a typical California Chardonnay, the wines carry a creamy texture and a leanness that are unique due to the limestone soil.

Very structured yet balanced. This needs a minimum of four to five years of aging. Paul Draper says that perhaps this is as great as the legendary 1991. Made for aging." (05/2012)

2013 Varner "Picnic Block-Spring Ridge Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

92 points Vinous: "Sweet dark cherry, menthol, pine, licorice and dark spices are all infused in the 2013 Pinot Noir Picnic Block. Deep and ample on the palate, the Picnic shows the more virile, masculine side of Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir. This is an especially dense, meaty Pinot Noir. Graphite, black pepper, game, smoke and scorched earth add the closing shades of nuance. The chewy tannins will benefit from time in bottle to soften. This is an especially big, ample Pinot from the Varners. I have to admit, my most recent tasting with Bob and Jim Varner was bitterswee ...Read More »

2012 Mount Eden "Reserve" Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay

96 points Vinous: "The 2012 Chardonnay Reserve is absolutely gorgeous. Vivid and pure, with notable intensity but no excess weight, the 2012 has everything going on. Chamomile, white flowers, mint and white pepper give the wine its natural brightness and lift. Graphite, slate and a host of more mineral-inflected notes add complexity through to the long, articulate finish. Mount Eden's Chardonnay is one of the truly great wines of California. The 2012 Reserve is not a big wine, but it is sublime, even if it is a bit closed today. Even so, the wine's pedigree is first-class ...Read More »

2006 Ridge "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2006 Ridge "Monte Bello" Santa Cruz Mountains Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (95VN, 94RP, 93JS, 93ST, 92W&S). Vinous: "A dark, brooding beauty, the 2006 Monte Bello is still very, very young. The aromatics alone are enticing, but the tannins still need time to soften. The 2006 is a masculine, vertical Monte Bello that demands cellaring. Even so, it is pretty impressive today. Scents of lavender, sage, mint and savory herbs add closing flourishes. The perfumed sweetness of the fruit - one of the hallmarks of the very late harvest - remains one of the signatures of the 2006. The 2006 can be enjoyed today or cellared for another 25+ years. Drink 2016 - 2046. (AG)" (07/2016)

2006 Rhys "Swan Terrace - Alpine Vineyard" Santa Cruz Mountains Pinot Noir

93 points Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Outstanding* A notably ripe nose that has a menthol and cranberry liqueur character plus a subtle touch of crushed herb that can also be found on the rich, full, naturally sweet and admirably detailed middle weight flavors underpinned by a fire core of ripe tannins and fine length. At present this is youthfully austere and will require 4 to 6 years to really display fully of what it's ultimately capable. Impressive. The estate wines of Rhys Vineyards made from biodynamically farmed fruit and the Alesia wines (made from carefully selected purchased fruit ...Read More »
