2016 Gundlach Bundschu "Mountain Cuvée" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend

Winemaker Anne Dempsey has been doing much lately to raise the profile of this popular and historic Sonoma Valley producer's wines. She calls the claret-style Mountain Cuvée a "stepping stone" to the winery's bigger Cabernets, and even Merlots! From the winery: "Mountain Cuvee honors the style and balance of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown in Sonoma County and pays homage to Bordeaux blends from France. We source vineyards from quality vineyards up against the Maycamas Mountain range to create balance in the wine, fruit, tannin and acid, choosing plo... Read More »

2013 Hidden Ridge "55% Slope" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon 55% Slope comes from the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas Mountains. It is 100 % Cabernet Sauvignon from a vineyard planted at 1,700 feet. This is a remarkable wine and reminiscent of the great classics from the golden era of the Mayacamas on the Napa side (such as the 1968, 1970, 1973 and 1974) come to mind when tasting this beauty. It is simply loaded. Dense purple in color, the wine has notes of licorice, crème de cassis, Asian plum sauce, cedar wood and earth. Full-bodied, opulent and irresistible already, it is capable (becau ...Read More »

2014 Olema Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points James Suckling: "A fresh and linear Sonoma cabernet with currant, berry and cherry. Medium body, firm and silky tannins. Excellent wine for the money. Go-to cab for the buck." (5/2017) K&L Notes: James Suckling calls this his go-to Cab for the money, and we couldn't agree more. As the winery explains, "the 2014 Olema Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes hand selected off vineyards in Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys in Sonoma County. This well-balanced wine features layers of juicy red and black fruit framed by soft tannins. 2014 was an excellent vintage for Sono... Read More »

2015 Smith Story "Pickberry Vineyard" Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Vinous: "The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Pickberry Vineyard is a total knock-out. Gracious and light on its feet, with tremendous character, the Pickberry will thrill readers who enjoy old-school California Cabernets. Bright acids and mountain structure from this hillside site on Sonoma Mountain give the wine a palpable sense of energy and savoriness to play off the dark-toned fruit. Scents of lavender, sage, tobacco and menthol linger on the super-expressive finish. What a marvelous wine this is. (AG)" (4/2018)

2015 Louis M. Martini Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County is medium to deep garnet-purple colored with a nose of red and black plums, cassis, dried bay leaves and lavender with a waft of chargrill. Medium-bodied, firm and refreshing with compelling red and black fruit layers, it finishes long with an herbal lift. (LPB)" (3/2018) K&L Notes: Robert Parker writes: "This winery was created in 1933 (following Prohibition) by the Martini family. 2014 Laurel Glen "Counterpoint" Sonoma Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

It delights in luxuriously bright acidity and a jammy explosion of blackberry, chocolate, clove and tobacco, the texture roundly approachable. (VB)" (12/2016) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Counterpoint gives youthful notes of crushed blackberries and black currants with hints of cedar and dried herbs. 2014 Anakota "Helena Dakota" Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Top Pick!
2014 Anakota "Helena Dakota" Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota displays more blackberry, blueberry and graphite, with some flowers such as violets, notes of pen ink, a full-bodied, concentrated, succulent and fleshy mouthfeel, and a long, long finish. This is another 25- to 30-year wine." (10/2016) 92 points Vinous: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Dakota is a bit darker, richer and bigger than the Helena Montana, with a bit more savory character, but the two wines are not that different in this vintage. The wine has plenty of spice box, cedar wood, Christmas fruitcake and Asian plum sauce, along with black cherry and blackcurrant fruit. Ripe, round, full-bodied and opulent, this is a wine that can be drunk now or cellared for another three decades. Interestingly, the alcohol levels are not all that high in any of these wines, with most of them rarely exceeding 14.3%. 2014 Anakota "Helena Montana" Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014s are 30-year wines, even in such a supple, easygoing and charming vintage. The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Helena Montana has an opaque purple color, a beautiful nose of graphite, creosote, incense, blackberry and licorice, and maybe a touch of charcoal and earth. The tannins are soft, and there is enormous fruit as well as a deep, full-bodied mouthfeel and some coffee in the finish. It should drink well for 25-30 years. 2014 Vérité "La Muse" Sonoma County Bordeaux Blend

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 La Muse (2,800 cases) is a legendary effort. The wine offers an opaque purple color and a gorgeous nose of lead pencil shavings, blackberry, incense, Asian spice, cocoa, plum, and a touch of chocolate and barrique. On the palate, more cassis and blackberry come to the forefront. The wine is unctuous, with adequate acidity and a stunning energy underneath the massive fruit and body. This is a spectacularly fragrant and, at the same time, dense wine, with enough structure (somewhat surprising in this vintage) to last 35-45+ years. The final blend ...Read More »

Here the flavors are dark, rich and powerful, with tons of voluptuousness and intensity. This is the last year of the Kamen Cabernet for Bedrock. (AG)" (1/2015) 91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Kamen Vineyard was aged in 75% Taransaud and Darnajou French oak. One of the best second wines I have tasted from this winery, it offers up much of the same character as its bigger sibling, but softer tannins and a more near-term accessibility give the wine immediate appeal. It should drink well for 10-12 years. (RP)" (12/2013) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky violet color. Raspberry jam, spice, scorched earth, rose petal, cloves and new leather are some of the signatures. It is a blend of 97% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Petite Sirah aged in 53% new French oak. The Rafanelli family has been making wine in California's Dry Creek Valley since before Prohibition, though the grapes for this cabernet were planted in 1986 on a steep, terraced hillside behind the winery. Firm tannins frame an expressive core of dark red berries, licorice, scorched earth, tobacco, smoke and incense. Today, the 2009 is far too young to offer true pleasure, but it is unquestionably striking. Hints of iron, graphite and smoke add complexity on the finish supported by huge mountain tannins. In order to develop further complexities through mellowing, an extended aging period of two years in French (Never) and American oak barrels was necessary. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2001 was the first truly great vintage for Jess Jackson and Pierre Seillan, and that is evidenced by the utterly perfect 2001 La Muse, a blend of 87% Merlot, 12% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Malbec. Over three-fourths of it came from the Alexander Mountain estate of Jess Jackson, and the rest from Chalk Hill, Knights Valley, and a tiny bit from Bennett Valley. This dense purple-colored effort exhibits notes of licorice, creme de cassis, plum sauce, violets and truffles. Full-bodied with magnificent density, overall equilibrium, stunning purity, sweet but abundant tannin and a fabulous finish, this profound wine remains a baby at age ten. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1981 Hanzell Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. The Hanzell vineyards were originally planted, with no expense spared, in the 1950's by James D. Zellerbach. The custom built winery was modelled on the original Martin Ray winery and the aim was to reach the same levels of quality that the best Burgundian wines had set. Over time, just like Martin Ray, the Hanzell winery expanded to produce Cabernet Sauvignon along with the Pinot Noir. This 1981 bottling has the following tasting note from the winery, written in 2012: "The opaque color hints at the wine’s density and concentration. The aromas are on the more savory side with beef broth, soy, nuts, menthol and cedar. Fresh fruit come forward in the flavors with black currant and raspberry to compliment the savory qualities that are echoed from the aromas. Lower acidity gives a rich velvetiness to the texture. 2015 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Blended of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot and 7% Petit Verdot, the 2015 Les Pavots Proprietary Red Wine is scented of crème de cassis, blueberries and baking spices with hints of chocolate box, black earth and cigar box. Medium to full-bodied, the palate simply sings with black fruit preserves and spicy layers, supported by chewy tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing long. 2,870 cases were made.
