2013 Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $25) Top Pick!
2013 Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $25)

91 points Wine & Spirits: "For all its plumpness, this feels sophisticated, its sense of fatness coming from abundant, perfectly ripe tannins rather than jammy, overripe fruit. Its clean, dark berry flavors are harmonious and lasting, the structure seeming at one moment supple and easy, at the next more deep and stony. Give it another five years in the bottle before pouring it with a standing rib roast." (2/2016) 90 points Vinous: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley is terrific... Sweet red cherry, pomegranate, spices, mint and gravel meld into the voluptuous, racy finish. There are plenty of ...Read More »

This is another titanic effort from proprietor Foley. A spectacular dense-purple color and sweet toasty oak intermixed with licorice, blackberry, cassis and graphite are all present in this profound first-growth quality blend that should age effortlessly for 25-30 or more years. This is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Petitie Sirah, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. They make 353,000 cases of it, so there shouldn’t be many complaints about finding it. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Les Pavots originates from a hillside vineyard overlooking the Knight's Valley that has 23 acres planted with Bordeaux varietals. The 1997 blend consists of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and 9% Cabernet Franc. The wine was aged in French oak (50% new), and bottled without filtration. Fortunately, there are 4,351 cases of 750 ml bottles, as well as 330 cases of magnums. 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Les Pavots is ripe and is a relatively similar blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The wine exhibits notes of forest floor intermixed with chocolate, blueberry, blackberry, espresso, and spice. It is strikingly more tannic, and closed compared to the 2005, which is almost the reverse of the vintage character. There were only 2,000 cases produced of the 2004, which needs 2-3 years of bottle age and should drink well for 15+ years. Chocolatey cassis notes intermixed with incense, licorice, and a hint of black olive are present in this wine. At this point, it is tasting like a vigorous young adolescent in its evolutionary development... Inky black/purple, with a nose of incense, licorice, balsamic and Asian soy notes interwoven with blackberry, blueberry and hints of truffle and camphor, this wine is full-bodied, opulent and voluptuously textured, with sensational mid-palate, depth and richness. Since its bottling, this deep, saturated purple-colored wine has taken on a gorgeous nose of cassis intermixed with violets, licorice, and attractive spicy oak. Sweet, rich, and surprisingly showy for a Les Pavots, this medium to full-bodied wine possesses a luscious, multi-layered texture, outstanding depth, and attractively integrated tannin and acidity. When I tasted it, it was more evolved and delicious than I had anticipated given its recent bottling. (RP)" (12/1997)

Bid on this bottle of 2001 Peter Michael "Les Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend (99WS, 97RP, 94ST). Wine Spectator: "Gorgeous, offering layers of rich, plush, dark berry, plum, blackberry, kirsch and fig paste, woven together with green olive and melted licorice. Full-blown, yet for all its depth and density it glides along on a smooth, tapered finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.—2001 California Cabernet blind retrospective (June 2011). Drink now through 2020. (Web-2011)" (06/2011)

1997 Fisher "Wedding Vineyard" Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The potentially perfect, opaque purple-colored 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon Wedding Vineyard (400 cases of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon) is made from 27-year-old vines, and is aged in 100% new French Taransaud barrels. This prodigious Cabernet Sauvignon has only gotten better since my tasting last year. The finest Cabernet I have tasted from Fisher, it represents a California interpretation of La Mission Haut-Brion. The wine offers sweet, tobacco-infused, scorched earth, blackberry, and blueberry notes, with a liquid minerality. The aromatics are matched by the im ...Read More »

1990 Arrowood Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Wine Spectator: "Sturdy, tannic, complex and youthful, a big, extracted style with earthy currant, mineral, coffee, leather, sage and tea, firming up on the finish. Very impressive and stylish.--California Cabernet retrospective." (2/2001) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Made from a blend similar to that used for the 1991 Cabernet Sauvignon, the 1990 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals spicy, cedary, cassis-scented aromas, medium-bodied flavors possessing layers of richness, adequate acidity, and a spicy, round, generous finish with noticeable soft tannin. Arrowood's emphasis on combining high quality fruit with ...Read More »

2004 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The two flagship wines of this brilliant estate, which straddles the Sonoma and Napa county lines at the top of Spring Mountain, include the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve (98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot). Sixty-eight percent of the fruit comes from Sonoma and 32% from Napa. It exhibits classic notes of creme de cassis, licorice, cedarwood, incense and a hint of toasty oak in the background. Full-bodied, opulent, profound deep, rich and full with velvety edges, the tannin can be detected, but it is wonderfully integrated in this mountain-sty ...Read More »

1987 B.R. Cohn 'Olive Hill' Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine Spectator: "Marked by a dryness to the fruit and tannins, this is a mature wine with spicy, cedary oak nuances and a modest core of currant and berry flavor." (12/1997)

2006 Peter Michael "L'Espirit des Pavots" Knights Valley Bordeaux Blend

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky ruby. Complex scents of dried cherry, redcurrant, tobacco and musky herbs, with a suave mineral underpinning; smells like a Saint-Emilion from graves soil. Light in body but packing a serious punch, offering bitter cherry and red berry skin flavors along with sweet tobacco and dark chocolate qualities. The mineral note repeats on the finish, which is impressively focused and very persistent. (ST)" (6/2009) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The second wine, from lots culled out from Les Pavots, is called L’Esprit des Pavots. The 2006 L’Esprit (45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 17% Ca ...Read More »

2012 Calluna "Cuvee CVC" Chalk Hill Bordeaux Blend

95 points Wine & Spirits: ""David Jeffrey’s estate, in the hills east of the Russian River Valley, tends to give a cool, taut expression of the Bordelaise grapes, thanks to maritime influence and the vineyard’s sandstone and shale-based soils. This merlot-based blend includes cabernet sauvignon, franc, petit verdot and malbec; in 2012, the wine’s flavors are vigorous and cohesive, with hints of black plum and mint, though the overall impression is primarily mineral, the refreshing glints of fruit completely tied to the structure. It evolves slowly over several days of air, barely ...Read More »
