2015 Halcón "Tierra" Yorkville Highlands Petite Sirah

96 points Rhone Report: "While I love the Syrah from Paul, I’m not sure his Petite Sirah isn’t his best wine. The 2015 Petite Sirah Tierra is another total hottie that offers fabulous notes of plums, exotic flowers, incense, pepper and peach in a full-bodied, seamless package. It has no hard edges, fine, fine tannin, building structure and a great finish, all while holding on to a terrific sense of elegance. It’s already drinking brilliantly, yet my money is on it keeping for at least a decade or more if well stored. 2015 Guenoc California Petite Sirah

While it may seem an unusual varietal for such an everyday-priced wine, Guenoc's Petite Sirah has long been a go-to wine for California wine shoppers looking for something reliable and red. The 2015 Guenoc California Petite Sirah is a rich, almost midnight red in the glass. Aromas of blackberry compote and clove rise from the glass while the palate is a dark, brooding mix of minced meat, marzipan, dark chocolate and blackberry fruit. Easy to drink, filled with richly textured flavors, this wine is ideal with slow-cooked red meats.

2015 Ridge Vineyards "Lytton Estate" Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah

94 points Vinous: "The 2015 Petite Sirah Lytton Estate is all class. There is plenty of depth to the inky blue and purplish Petite fruit, while the tannins are remarkably polished for a young Dry Creek Petite. Hints of lavender, tobacco, mint, smoke and crème de cassis develop in the glass, adding further shades of complexity. This clay-rich site seems to be especially well suited to Petite. Whole berry fermentation and gentle extractions yield and especially refined Petite. The 2015 is another drop-dead gorgeous wine from Ridge. 2013 Le P'tit Paysan Monterey County Petite Sirah

From the winery: "Picked at atypically low sugars for the variety. Fermented in small lots with some stem inclusion and some native yeasts. Aged on lees in less than 10% new oak. From a limestone and shale rich block on Pierce Ranch in southern Monterey County. We pick Petite Sirah from two blocks in the Y-Ranch section of the Pierce Vineyard. Block 1 is a west facing rocky hillside littered with chunks of white limestone, which at times are as large as two fists. "

2013 Girard Napa Valley Petite Sirah

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A successful wine from Girard, their 2013 Petite Sirah has good, deep fruit, cleanliness and purity, and some wood and spice in a medium-bodied, pleasant style. Drink it over the next 5 years. (RP)" (12/2015) Wine Spectator: "There's a touch of savory here, with a beefy teriyaki note to complement the core of rustic, juicy blackberry and dark plum flavors. Shows plenty of spice and cedar accents on the firm finish. Drink now through 2025. (MW)" (12/2015)

Rich, warm tannins partner with a thick, velvety texture and lingering finish. It has that exuberant fruitiness of some Zins but with more blueberry and dark chocolate, plus considerable heft and depth. Best through 2023." (3/2017)

2014 Stags' Leap Winery Napa Valley Petite Sirah

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Petite Sirah, which is their basic introductory model, so to speak, is a sensational wine in its own right. Opaque purple-colored, loads of white flowers, blueberries and blackberries are present in this wine, which should drink well for 20-25 years A winery often confused with the Stags Leap Wine Cellars, but owned by the giant Treasuries Wines consortium, they are doing some creative work and making extremely interesting wines. 91+ Points (RP)" (12/2016)

2015 Carlisle "Palisades Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "For fans of the variety, this is a consistently blockbuster wine, well made and remarkably fruity and floral. Violet aromas ride quietly over rounded flavors of cherry pie as the body takes on full-figured dimension. Richly voluptuous, there’s balance here within the firm robust tannin structure and heady licorice-laden end. (VB)" (10/2017) 91-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another monster in the making is the 2015 Petite Sirah Palisades Vineyard (15.7% alcohol, 580 cases). 2015 Bedrock "Drummond's Cuvée" California Petite Sirah

94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A barrel sample of the 2015 Petite Sirah Drummond’s Cuvée comes primarily from Mendocino’s Eaglepoint Ranch, which used to make up Sean Thackrey’s Sirius Syrah. This massive, rich, concentrated Petite Sirah is a 50-year wine. Black as a moonless night, it displays notes of graphite, incense, camphor, blueberry and blackberry liqueur. It is still in barrel, but it’s a monster. More on this once it’s in bottle next year. 94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Even better is the remarkable 2008 Petite Sirah California, a cross appellation offering from Napa's Palisades Vineyard blended with fruit from the Teldeschi Vineyard in Dry Creek and the Carlisle Vineyard in Russian River. Its dense purple hue is accompanied by an extraordinary bouquet of incense, wet stones, acacia flowers, blueberries, blackberries, black raspberries, and charcoal. 2001 Turley "Hayne" Napa Valley Petite Syrah

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard’s black/purple color is accompanied by a compelling bouquet of black fruits, graphite, and white flowers reminiscent of a top-flight Hermitage. Tremendously rich, full-bodied, and viscous, with 13.2% alcohol, sweet tannin, and well-integrated wood, this profound Petite Syrah will be at its finest between 2008-2020+. This is truly magnificent stuff with great purity, length, and intensity." (8/2003) 93-95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated black ruby. This massive red is surprisingly civilized and silky-textured. Although accessible, it should easily last for 15-20 years. Full-bodied, with massively extracted flavors but incredibly well-balanced and vibrant, this wine needs 5-10 years of bottle-age and should age effortlessly for a quarter of a century. 1999 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah

If it is showing any age after a decade of cellaring, I will be as surprised as its producers. An opaque black/blue color is followed by an extraordinary perfume of blackberry and creme de cassis blended with spices, minerals, and earth. Turley’s inky/blue/purple-tinged 2005 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard possesses a boatload of tannin as well as a fabulously concentrated attack and mid-palate. 90-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1997 Petite Syrah Aida Vineyard (from 80-year old vines) assaults the palate with such an overload of fruit, tannin, and extract that the taster's first impression is that this is something more than table wine. It is a massive, almost uncivilized, wildly out of control Petite Syrah that will require 10-15 years of cellaring, and last for 30 or more. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A new offering, the 2001 Petite Syrah Library Vineyard (14% alcohol) possesses an evolved nose of sweet blackberry liqueur intermixed with spice and sweet oak. Surprisingly, the palate is closed, and the finish hard and tannic. While this effort does not appear to have the potential of its siblings, there is still a lot to it. Perhaps I caught it on a closed day. (RP)" (8/2003) Wine Spectator: "Dense, tight and firmly tannic, with a firm yet narrow band of wild berry, spice, mineral and fresh earth, it turns ruggedly tannic on the chalky finish. 1996 Turley "Aida" Napa Valley Petite Syrah

92-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Turley continues to offer two of the blackest, densest, richest Petite Syrahs ever produced in California. Alongside its siblings, the 1996 Petite Syrah Aida Vineyard looks like a wimp with only 13.8% alcohol, but what concentration and intensity this wine offers. From a 4.5-acre vineyard, only 3 tons of fruit were harvested in 1996. The result is an opaque purple-colored wine with a dense, mineral, earthy, peppery, blackberry-scented nose, huge, ripe, thick flavors, gobs of glycerin and fruit, and a long, moderately tannic finish. My guess is that this ...Read More »

2007 Carlisle Yorkville Highlands Petite Sirah

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Those masochists who need a high dosage of resveratrol will adore the 2008 Petite Sirah Yorkville Highlands, which should clear out any clutter in the arteries. A huge, massive wine with abundant black and blue fruits intermixed with licorice, camphor, graphite and spicy background oak, this chewy, unfined/unfiltered Petite Sirah should be forgotten for 4-5 years, and drunk over the following 2+ decades. (RP)" (2/2011) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Inky purple. Blackberry, blueberry, licorice and smoky herbs on the nose. Juicy, sweet and penetrating, with good depth to its dark fruit f ...Read More »

2007 Switchback Ridge "Peterson Family Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "95+ points. The monster 2007 Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard is a massively concentrated, huge, tannic wine that needs a good 7-8 years of cellaring and should keep 20 years. It will be another legend for Petite Sirah, but unless you are a patient connoisseur, few people will ever get to see it at its best. (RP)" (12/2009) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Extremely dense, with a chunky mouthful of black cherry, blackberry and dried fig flavors that are accented with toasted nut, pepper and dark chocolate details. Wrapped up in velvety, thick tannins, full of intensity and detail. ( ...Read More »

1993 Turley "Aida Vineyards" Petite Syrah

95 points Robert Parker: "Petite Sirah lovers will go ballistic when they taste the two 1993 offerings from Turley Cellars. The black/purple-colored 1993 Petite Syrah Aida Vineyard (from a vineyard planted in 1911) is massively rich, with wonderfully integrated, sweet, ripe tannin, a huge, black fruit, licorice, earth, and peppery-scented nose, exceptional length, and moderately high, sweet tannin. It is an exceptional Petite Sirah that should last for 20-30+ years. These are extraordinary wines!" (06/95) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Dark and immensely co... Read More »

2007 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2007 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah (95RP, 94ST, 92JS, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The black/purple 2007 Petite Sirah may well be around in 50-60 years, when most of us will be pushing up daisies. In fact, it probably needs to be forgotten for 8-10 years. A massive, pedal-to-the-metal Petite Sirah that looks like pen ink, the wine displays notes of creosote, pepper, spice box, blackberry, and blueberry, with hints of incense and floral undertones. It is dense and almost looks like syrup being poured into a glass. It is obviously not for everybody, as it is certainly a controversial New World wine, but these wines will become more and more civilized as they age, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this one is spoken of with reverence 40-50 years from now." 2007 Carlisle "Palisades Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah

94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Carlisle’s Petite Sirahs are treated like this powerful, but under-appreciated varietal should be. From very old vines, the 2007 Petite Sirah Palisade Vineyard is an amazing example of this varietal that should age for 30+ years. Blueberry, blackberry, camphor, licorice, incense, and graphite notes are followed by a wine with massive concentration and density as well as tremendous purity and depth. Although surprisingly accessible (a characteristic of this vintage), it will unquestionably last for three decades.. Mike Officer is quickly rising to the t ...Read More »

2008 Carlisle Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah

Robert Parker writes: "One of California's most compelling success stories is Mike Officer's conversion from full-time software developer to full-time guardian of old vine Zinfandel vineyards and world-class producer of artisinal wines. Carlisle is a hugely successful winery, not only because of outstanding customer service, but because of the simple fact that it delivers great wines at extremely fair prices."
