95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Very fruity and fresh in aroma, this elegant wine has light, crisp apple and lemon flavors, fresh-baked bread accents and lively acidity. A layered texture seems to blend in accents of almond and vanilla, increasing complexity with each sip. It’s one of California’s bluechip bubblies." (12/2015)93 points Wine Spectator: "*60 on the Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2015* Impeccably refined and elegant, with floral aromas of fresh brioche, baked apple and roasted hazelnut. The flavors are layered and well-focused, showing notes of mineral, fresh ginger and subtle raspberry. Drink now throug ...Read More »
Maybe they should rename this wine 'Simply Yum,' since it's hardly a conundrum anymore. Once again a blend of popular and esoteric white grapes (including in no special order: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Viognier and Muscat), this a quintessential sipper offering copious amounts of ripe, silky fruit, tropical in nature, along with vanilla notes, honeysuckle and melon.
From the winery: "Founded by the noble family behind Champagne Taittinger, Claude Taittinger's search for a worthy U.S. counterpart began in the late 1970s. In 1987 he selected a 138-acre parcel in the heart of Carneros, Napa Valley. Wisely selecting Eileen Crane to oversee the development of the winery and vineyards, the team created the quintessential California expression of the Taittinger style in Carneros."
From Wine Enthusiast on the last vintage: "(#10 on their top 100 of 2014) Pinkish-gold in color, this lovely cuvée is a blend of 74% Pinot Noir and 26% Chardonnay, the winery’s take on a Blanc de Noirs. Fruity in peach, raspberry and blood orange, it is multi-faceted and complex, dry and elegant with a long finish that leans herbal, the acidity dialed perfectly right, gentle on the palate and memorable." (12/2014)
91 points Wine Spectator: "Supple and richly styled, with aromas of tart apple and spiced hazelnut, followed by Meyer lemon, brioche and zesty cinnamon notes. Drink now. 3,555 cases made." (6/2015)
91 points Wine Spectator: "Focused and vibrant, with aromas of creamy apple, cinnamon and hazelnut leading to complex, layered flavors of lemon custard, mineral and almond. The finish lingers." (9/2013)90 points Wine & Spirits: "Roederer Estate’s Brut is reliably open and delicious, this year’s cuvée bursting with concentrated apple flavor. It’s clean and dry with a long, delicate finish enhanced by the barrel-aged reserve wines that winemaker Arnaud Weyrich blends in. Its bold flavors and vinous texture would be great with cracked crab." (12/2014) Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star* Taking its usual place among the better basic Bruts ...Read More »
91 points Wine Spectator: "*Smart Buys* Focused and vibrant, with aromas of creamy apple, cinnamon and hazelnut leading to complex, layered flavors of lemon custard, mineral and almond. The finish lingers." (9/2013) Connoisseurs Guide: "Taking its usual place among the better basic Bruts of the year, Roederer's latest is yet again a sleek and spirited wine of great freshness and verve. It hews to the crispness and pert delicacy that we associate with fine Blanc de Blancs, but it musters a full measure of yeasty richness even while maintaining its lively step, and it is one of the few of its type that is ...Read More »
90-92 points Antonio Galloni: "Light yellow-gold. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes fresh pineapple, white peach and pear, with hints of jasmine ad basil emerging slowly. Dry and nervy on the palate, offering juicy orchard and pit fruit and honeysuckle flavors that put on weight and spread out with air. A dusty mineral quality adds cut to the finish, which lingers with very good floral persistence." (9/2015) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As good, if not better, than the 2013, the 2014 Cote de Tablas Blanc is a Viognier-heavy blend that incorporates 30% Grenache Blanc and 23% Marsanne. One of the more reticent 20 ...Read More »
69% Vermentino, 27% French Colombard, 4% Chardonnay Vermentino was harvested between July 31st and August 6th, 2014 at 18-19.3º brix. The Chardonnay was August 8th at 19.3º brix and the French Colombard on September 6th at 22º brix.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While highly recognized for his red winemaking ability, Mike Officer can certainly do nice things with white grapes, too. He never picks easy ones, though. The 2013 Proprietary White The Derivative is a blend of 55% Semillon, 16% Muscadelle, 16% Colombard and 13% Palomino. The result is a delicious old-vine blend that is dry, has modest alcohol (14.3%), shows loads of delicious white citrus and a hint of floral notes, medium body, and a zesty, rather naked feel. Some new oak was used in the fermentation of the Semillon, but the wine generally spent most ...Read More »

2013 is the fourth vintage of our Holus Bolus blanc and it is our best one yet. Roussanne is a grape native to the Rhone Valley of France (Hermitage, St. Joseph, Chateauneuf-du-Pape) and sparsely planted outside of there with only 300 acres in California. We found a great new vineyard source for our Roussanne: the much heralded Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria Valley. This is a block that for the past decade has gone into Qupé’s Hillside Estate Roussanne and we are very fortunate to have just under an acre there to work with. The block is biodynamical... 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Fresh-squeezed apple juice, grapefruit spritzer and nearly sweet cherry aromas sit atop minerality on the nose of this blend of 46% Viognier, 19% Verdelho, 19% Vermentino and 16% Sauvignon Blanc. There’s a lot of tart acidity, with a lingering apple flavor." (12/2014)
With Sluice Box (a reference to El Dorado's gold rush history) we endeavor to create a lively, nuanced and balanced blend that illustrates why we love Rhone varietals. In 2014 we expanded to include Roussanne with the Vermentino, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul. Again we have a touch of skin contact with the Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Vermentino (43% of blend) that creates a white wine with a red’s structure and lovely texture.
50% Vermentino, 40% Grenache Blanc, 10% Picpoul. According to winemaker Mick Unti: "It is not often you think of a Dry Creek Valley white wine when looking for something to have with raw oysters, but this Cuvée Blanc has what it takes—mineral flavors in a dry, un-oaked white with excellent acid balance. While our 2014 Cuvée Blanc is richer and slightly more full-bodied than in previous years, it is bright, floral and crisp. We are, after all, suckers for high acid white wines. Cuvée Blanc is a soulful alternative to the other whites grown in this valley.... Read More »
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This grape is obscure for California but excels in this bottling, with intriguing aromas of yellow melon, crushed white rocks and an array of citrus, from tangerine peels to kumquats. The palate is a lime shade of green, featuring flavors of lime blossoms, Key lime pie and kaffir lime leaves, but also shows limestone minerality and a hint of passion fruit." (9/2015)
90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The outstanding NV Brut Rosé (66% Pinot Noir, 33% Chardonnay and 1% Pinot Meunier) displays loads of strawberry and Kir cocktail-like notes in a fresh, light to medium-bodied, delicious style that is essentially dry, with tiny, well-formed bubbles and good, crisp acids. (RP)" (10/2015)
92 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2012 Esprit de Tablas Blanc is sublet, floral and lifted. Flowers, mint, lemon and spices meld together in a gracious, impeccably refined Roussanne-based white Rhône loaded with class and style. The 2012 Esprit is 75% Roussanne, 20% Grenache Blanc and 5% Picpoul Blanc." (7/2014)92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Green-hued yellow. High-pitched aromas of tangerine, green apple and white flowers, with a gingery nuance adding complexity. Sappy, spicy and penetrating, offering intense citrus and orchard fruit flavors that put on weight with air. Firm and dry on a finish showing excellen ...Read More »
Wine Enthusiast: "The film director’s sparkling ode to his director daughter delivers aromas of apple blossoms, pear cider and chalk. An apparent sweetness on the palate is cut with a pithy grip, the apple-juice base leveled with ample lime elements." (5/2015)
Aromas of lemon zest, kumquat, lemongrass, and ruby red grapefruit. Although it displays some restraint at first, it soon opens up to notes of honeydew melon, white rose and fresh herbs. The palate is light on its feet, with lean, zippy acid holding together a core of flavors that span honey mandarin, lemon curd, and green apple. The finish stays tight and clean, with a kiss of agave nectar and wet stone. Aiming to preserve the intense fruit and aromatics of these varieties, this blend was fermented and aged in 100% stainless steel. Hand-picked in the ea... Read More »
Grown on their Home Ranch Vineyard in St. Helena, Joseph Phelps makes Eisrébe as a nod to German ice wines. From 100% Scheurebe (shoy-RAY-buh) grapes, the Napa Valley latitude does not allow for natural freezing on the vines as in Germany. Rather the late-harvested grapes are lightly frozen in the winery before being gently pressed to extract only the most concentrated nectar while leaving much of the water behind. The finished dessert wine sports 8% alcohol and 22.5% residual sugar. From the winery: "The 2014 Eisrébe is delicately nuanced with crisp app... Read More »
Our Albariño is picked earlier to mimic the style of Albariño from its native area of Galicia, Spain. This thick-skinned and small berried grape has aromatics similar to a Riesling. Notes of tangerine, orange blossoms, and membrillo delight the nose. It is juicy and fruity in the mouth with flavors of pear, McIntosh apple, pink grapefruit juice and a hint of lychee. This wine was produced from organically farmed and green certified vineyards. Albariño is not only the most popular white wine of Spain, but has also carved out its territory as being one o... "Michael Havens and I both think this is one of the strongest Albariños to date. In a reverse from the last couple of years the fruit from Stewart Ranch, planted on clay, was the stronger of the two lots showing beautifully precise aromatics hinting at the tropical, nice density and crackling acidity. The Watson Ranch lot contributes nice structure and a distinct steely citrus character. This will be a major part of my own summer wine consumption!" (Bedrock's Morgan Twain Peterson)
Bright and vibrant and orange in color with perfect clarity. Almost Neon in appearance. The nose is has aromas of citrus peel, jasmine, rose, fresh cut grass, black tea and honey. Tannin backed by racy acidity with minerals, peach flesh, orange, coconut, and marzipan. It is clean, precise and balanced. The finish has yeast (lees), tannin, vanilla and honeysuckle. Aromatic in the finish leaving the earthy and woody flavors on the palate long after each sip with lingering citrus peel.
From the winery: "One of the smallest production wines we make is the coveted Dry Muscat. In a market flooded with endless supply of sweet Muscat (or Moscato), this dry-style Orange Muscat stands out amongst the crowd. Crisp and pleasant, with notes of honeysuckle and peach, the 2013 vintage offers up a unique twist on Muscat. We source Orange Muscat grapes from Santa Barbara County, then ferment it in 100% neutral French Oak to capture its exotic and heady aromas, light straw color, and long lasting finish. We recommend the 2013 Dry Muscat as an aperit... Read More »

90 points Antonio Galloni: "Green apple, pear, mint and a hint of spice are some of the notes that open up in the 2014 Grenache Blanc Thompson Vineyard. Energetic and beautifully delineated, the 2014 offers tons of varietal character and nuance. Drink this refreshing white over the next year or two. This range of new releases from Craig Jaffurs is full of highlights. The whites, which had a bit of residual sugar last year, are drier and also more focused, while the Syrahs are consistent and, at the top level, simply brilliant. Its always a pleasure to taste through this lineup. I c ...Read More »
A low alcohol Moscato crafted from Muscat Canelli grapes grown at Mondavi's Wappo Hill Vineyard in Napa Valley's Stags Leap District. From the winery: "Catching your attention immediately are the seductively rich peach and lychee fruit, orange blossom, and jasmine aromas of this sweet wine. The Moscato's wonderfully balanced acidity meets this intense flavor with a perfectly refreshing lift as the concentrated flavors ride across the palate in an ultra-rich wave."
After three decades, Edmunds St. John has a devoted following that seek out Steve Edmunds wines where "the earth speaks." This limited production white is based in Vermentino from the Fenaughty Vineyard in California's El Dorado Hills.
91 points Robert Parker: "The 2006 Roussanne Estate, which includes 25% Viognier in the blend, is a heavier, more waxy style of white wine that appears to possess some tannin. As this varietal often does, this full-bodied effort comes across as a “love it or leave it” wine. I happen to adore this style, but their aging curve is almost impossible to predict. I recommend drinking these Roussannes on the earlier rather than later side. This offering would drink beautifully with fatty fish or grilled chicken dishes as it almost has the weight, richness, and ... Read More »

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Exotic and extremely aromatic, with notes of lavender, flowers, mint, lychee nut and citrus blossom, the 2012 Malvasia Bianca is intense, laser-focused and yet also rich and layered on the palate. A knockout medium-bodied dry white, it should continue to shine through 2014." (8/2013)91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale gold. Lemon, nectarine and dusty mineral aromas are lifted by a gingery topnote. Silky and perfumed in the mouth, displaying complex flavors of white peach, melon, beeswax and chamomile that are braced by juicy acidity. A rich yet sharply focused wine, finishing with impr ...Read More »
93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale peach skin color. Deep, complex nose of apple, nut skin, apricot and minerals; this somewhat resembled a bottle of 1990 Pol Roger Winston Churchill I had tasted 15 minutes earlier. Thick, penetrating and solidly structured; rich, nuanced flavors of vanilla, minerals, apricot and superripe peach. Wonderful sweetness and chewy texture more akin to the Southern Rhone than to Southern California. Great building length on the finish. Close in quality to the extraordinary '95 Sine Qua Non white blend labelled The Bride." (11/2000) 89-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Roussanne and Cha ...Read More »

93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(11.2% alcohol with 16 grams per liter residual sugar) Gamey aromas of mandarin orange syrup and clove. Extremely concentrated and chewy, with a floral/minty intensity. Less fat and more penetrating than the gewurztraminer, but also compellingly sweet and pure. Finishes clean and very long." (May/June 02) And, according to Wine Spectator: "Brilliant, with ripe, rich, tart, sweet and sour pineapple flavors that are intense. Finishes with a citrus and creamy touch." (09/02)

2012 Sine Qua Non "In the Abstract" Proprietary White
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Sine Qua Non "In the Abstract" Proprietary White (97RP, 94AG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In the same league, the 2012 In The Abstract is a classic Sine Qua Non white blend of 37% Chardonnay, 31% Roussanne, 16% Petite Manseng and 16% Viognier. Coming from roughly equal parts Bien Nacido, Cumulus and Eleven Confessions vineyard, it spent just under 19 months in 48% used barrels (1-4 years old), 27% new French oak and the balance in concrete eggs. It sports a slightly darker color than the Chardonnay and offers up incredible notes of caramelized peaches, poached apples, white flowers and crushed rock that flow seamlessly to a full-bodied, decadent, yet classy and graceful feel on the palate. It’s a classic effort that doesn’t pull any punches, yet also never seems hot, heavy or puts a foot wrong. Enjoy this beauty over the coming decade or more. (JD)" (08/2014)

2011 Sine Qua Non "The Moment" White Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2011 Sine Qua Non "The Moment" White Blend (95RP, 94AG, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Starting off the tasting and a prodigious, unctuous white, the 2011 The Moment checks in as a blend of 57% Roussanne, 19% Petit Manseng, 17% Chardonnay and 7% Viognier that spent 16 months in a combination of concrete, new and used barrels, and stainless steel. Offering up notions of marzipan, citrus oil flowers, marmalade and spiced apricots, it flows onto the palate with full-bodied richness and depth that-s balanced by beautiful underlying freshness and clarity. While I would lean towards drinking bottles over the coming 2-3 years, these can absolutely age, and have upwards of 10-15+ years of longevity. Drink now-2017+. (JD)" (08/2013)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The days of the Mr. K wines are gone forever with the tragically premature death of Austrian Alois Kracher, who had partnered with Manfred Krankl in this intriguing homage to sweet nectars. Krankl continues on his own, and in Spring, 2011, he will release the 2008 Jinete Bajo Roussanne Vin de Paille, which is named after his wife's favorite horse. Made from 100% estate fruit, with a finished alcohol level of 11.8%, a whopping 240 grams per liter of residual sugar, and 8.7 grams of acidity, this is a pure nectar of honeyed marmalade, waxy, syrupy honeysuc ...Read More »
