2007 Saxum "James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhône Blend (Previously $480)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Utter perfection, and one of the most profound Rhone Ranger wines I have ever tasted... As with many prodigious wines, the extraordinary freshness, purity, equilibrium, and singularity of this effort is breathtaking. Its dense purple color is accompanied by an extraordinary, incredibly pure, all enveloping, intense, sweet nose of black raspberries, kirsch, spring flowers, spice box, and pepper. Full-bodied with not a hard edge to be found, it is stunningly concentrated with unreal purity, a voluptuous texture, and remarkable freshness for a wine of such ...Read More »

2007 Saxum "Bone Rock - James Berry Vineyard" Paso Robles Rhone Blend (Previously 300)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Bone Rock, which comes from the James Berry Vineyard (82% Syrah, 13% Mourvedre, and the rest Grenache, also aged 28 months in a combination of smaller barrels, demi-muids, and pungeons), is super as well. Like its late-released sibling, it has an inky/purple color to the rim and an extraordinary, soaring set of aromatics consisting of spring flowers, pepper, graphite, blackberry and blueberry fruit with hints of raspberry and licorice and jus de viande as well. The extraordinary freshness and elegance of this wine leads to a minerality that even ...Read More »

2007 Linne Calodo "Slacker" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

From Robert Parker: "Matt Trevisan is one of Paso Robles’ up-and-coming stars. He’s doing everything right, and it’s good to see him planting a new estate vineyard of nearly 18 acres, building a new wine cellar, and taking full advantage of the gorgeous limestone soils on the hillsides of West Paso Robles. Trevisan has also been ahead of the curve in realizing that the finest Paso Robles wines are usually blends. Undeniably, he has demonstrated a Midas touch when it comes to assembling innovative blends. He is also the only winemaker in this region that ... Read More »

2007 Tablas Creek "Esprit de Beaucastel Rouge" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

96 points Rhone Report: "Truly exceptional, and showing every bit as good as last year...delivers awesome aromatics reminiscent of a top ‘07 Châteauneuf-du-Pape, showing pure blackberry, kirsch, licorice, incense, and herbed rubbed meaty notes. Dense, concentrated, and fantastically textured, this full bodied beauty should drink well for 10 to 15 years." (11/2010) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The prodigious 2007 Esprit de Beaucastel is a blend of 44% Mourvedre, 29% Grenache, 21% Syrah, and the rest Counoise. A very great wine, very much in the mold of its French cousin, Chateau Beaucastel, the wine has a satu ...Read More »

2007 Saxum "Broken Stones" Paso Robles Rhone Blend

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Saturated ruby. A highly perfumed bouquet displays boysenberry, blueberry, smoked meat, pungent floral oils and strong minerality. Lush, creamy and sweet, offering incisive dark berry flavors and a strong undertone of Asian spices. The mineral note builds with air and carries into the finish, which is strikingly pure, focused and persistent. As rich as this wine is, I find no excess weight and a very firm finish. (RP)" (8/2009) 96 points Wine Spectator: "A full-blown tour de force, pure, ripe, rich and focused, delivering blackberry, huckleberry, boysenberry and spicy mineral notes ...Read More »

2007 Villa Creek "Onda" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Onda brings together Syrah, Mourvedre and Tempranillo in roughly equal amounts. It is an intriguing wine for many reasons, not the least of which are its aromatic and textural complexity. Leather, licorice, spices and plums wrap around the generous, totally inviting finish. This is a beautiful wine from Cris Cherry and Villa Creek, not too surprising considering his vineyard sources. The 2007 Onda is 34% Syrah from James Berry Vineyard, 33% Mourvedre Denner Vineyard and 33% Tempranillo from Ohana. The wine spent a whopping 34 months in new Frenc ...Read More »

2007 Booker "Vertigo 28 Months" Paso Robles Rhône Blend

This bottling of Booker's 2007 Vertigo is a special selection that saw its elevage extended to 28 months in barrel and was bottled separately from the regular release. This bottling was not professionally reviewed, but the regular bottling garnered 93 points from both Robert Parker's Wine Advocate and Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar. Robert Parker wrote of the regular bottling: "The dense purple-colored 2007 Vertigo, a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache, exhibits the blackberry and creme de cassis characteristics of Syrah along with new saddl...
