2008 Revana St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of roasted herb, dried currant, sage and underbrush are full-bodied and complex, savory and alluring, approachable already. (JL)" (11/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Both [2007 & 2008] of these Cabernet Sauvignons are soft, elegant, dark ruby/plum/garnet-colored, evolved, medium-bodied efforts with attractive notes of spice, earth, red and black currants intermixed with herbs and background oak... 2008 Vineyard 29 "29 Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (375ml)

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Vineyard 29 Estate (100% Cabernet Sauvignon) has to take a backseat to the virtually perfect 2007, but it is another strong effort. Although slightly more austere than the exuberant 2007, it is loaded with fruit. An opaque ruby/purple hue is accompanied by notes of cassis, new saddle leather, camphor and loamy soil. The wine displays sweet tannin, medium to full-bodied flavors, outstanding richness and mild tannins in the finish. It requires 2-3 years of bottle age and should keep for 20-25 years. 93+ points (RP)" (12/2010) K&L Notes: From... Read More »

2008 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend Top Pick!
2008 Opus One Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Vinous: "Mocha, espresso, rosemary, lavender, plums and licorice emerge from the 2008 Opus One. Tasted from magnum, the 2008 is beautifully expressive. The firm tannins need more time to soften, but there is a lot to like in the 2008. Today the 2008 is showing beautifully. In magnum, the 2008 can be enjoyed today or cellared up to another 20 years or so. If opened young, the 2008 needs a few hours of air to soften. The bright, floral, spiced finish suggests a long life ahead. (AG)" (11/2013) 94 points James Suckling: "Fabulous roses, currants and dark berries on the nose that go to currants ...Read More »

2008 Cain "Concept-The Benchlands" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

Jancis Robinson: "Quite a departure from the fruit-centric Napa norm. Roasted coffee, a tiny bit of herbal character. Savoury and structural. Good restraint within an extrovert idiom. (RH)" (2/2013) Wine Spectator: "Shows a meaty, peppery side of Cabernet, rich and extracted, offering dried dark berry and fresh-turned earth. A solid effort with chewy, leathery tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2020. (JL)" (11/2012) K&L Notes: Cain "Concept" is vinified exactly like their signature bottling, Cain "Five". It is sourced from the eastern and western "b... Read More »

2008 Rubicon "Four" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Francis Ford Coppola purchased this historic estate back in 1975, and his been working ever since to return Napa's preeminent winery to its former glory. While it has operated under many names since its purchase (Niebaum-Coppola, Rubicon Estate), Francis and his wife Eleanor finally acquired the iconic Inglenook trademark in 2011, allowing the wines to finally be labeled with the historical name. The 2008 vintage was small, but very ripe, resulting in deeply concentrated, aromatic wines.

2008 Casa Piena "Policy Vineyards - Our Gang" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $140)

Robert Parker writes: "A new project, and an impressive one at that, Casa Piena is owned by former lawyer and football executive for the San Francisco 49ers, Carmen Policy. None other than Thomas Brown is the winemaker at this facility, which is situated at the crossroads of Silverado Trail and the Yountville Crossroad, a pretty classy neighborhood, considering that Cliff Lede and Kapcsandy are also nearby. The wine at Casa Piena is aged 20 months in 80% new French oak casks and is virtually 100% Cabernet Sauvignon."

Both are brilliant wines and they represent the finest back-to-back vintages for Dominus since 2001 and 2002 or 1990 and 1991. Both the 2007 and 2008 Dominus should drink well for 25-30 years. 2008 Arrowood Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(raised in a mix of French and American oak): Deep ruby. Ripe cherry, cassis, tobacco and vanilla on the nose, with a subtle herbal undertone. Fleshy dark fruit flavors are supported by gentle acidity, taking on spiciness with aeration. Finishes sweet and persistent, with the dark berry and tobacco qualities lingering. This nicely balanced cabernet is approachable now." Plum, anise, pepper, and wild mountain fruits are present in the moderately intense bouquet. In the mouth, this medium-bodied wine displays good fruit, elegance, and a savory quality, with nothing out of place. Impressively pure and nicely textured, it should drink well for 10-15 years. Composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (430 cases produced), this is an exquisite wine of great precision and profound concentration and complexity. 2008 Scarecrow "M. Étain" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

The inaugural vintage of Scarecrow's "second label" wine, M. Étain comes from a less rigorous selection of fruit hand-picked from the J.J. Cohn Estate in Rutherford. The wine is cleverly named after the Tin Man from Wizard of Oz, "Étain" being French for "Tin." Pretty cherry, raspberry and plum fruit notes on the nose and palate are deftly interwoven with cookie spices, cigar box, coffee, licorice, chocolate and vanilla bean. Silky tannins make this approachable now.

Soft and silky fruits. Amazing backbone of tannins. This reminds me of a great modern vintage of Margaux -- but with that Napa shine." (6/2011) 99 points Wine Enthusiast: "This is an absolutely beautiful wine to drink now, but the richness comes at the price of considerable alcohol. 2008 Signorello "Padrone" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)

Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by a more projected and intense aromatic profile consisting of charcoal, forest floor, underbrush, black currants and plums. Full-bodied, rich, dense and concentrated, it seems more approachable than the Cabernet Sauvignon, but there is also much more to it. This big, promising red will be better in 3-5 years and should last for two decades. 93+ points. Aromas of cassis, black cherry, plum, licorice, spicecake and dark chocolate, plus hints of cola and loam. The 2008 Perseid should continue to drink well over the next decade or so. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. (AG)" (12/2011) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good red-ruby. It displays a dense purple color and plenty of smoky notes intermixed with scorched earth, espresso roast, chocolate, and black currant. In the back, the tannins kick in, so this wine needs a few years of cellaring, but should keep for two decades." (6/2011) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red.
