2014 Andrew Murray "Tous les Jours" Santa Ynez Valley Syrah

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Showing incredible depth for such an affordable wine, Andrew Murray does it again with this widely available bottling. The gamy nose shows lamb, rosemary, uncracked peppercorns, light tobacco leaf, soy sauce and a touch of tar. Purple flowers rule the palate, with lavender, violet and blossoming rosemary notes, with thyme and white pepper spicing up boysenberry fruit. (MK)" (7/2016) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Syrah Tous les Jours is a total charmer and checks in as 100% Syrah from a bevy of Santa Ynez vineyards (all are within five miles of the winery). 2013 Holus Bolus Sta. Rita Hills Syrah

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "#6 on Top 100 *Best of 2016, Editors' Choice* Though this bottling is Peter Hunken's least-expensive Syrah, it gives his single-vineyard expressions a serious run for the money for best of vintage. Amazing aromas of chipped asphalt, smoked beef, dense boysenberry, soy, cedar, sandalwood and soy drop into a palate of peppery berry juice, beef jerky, underripe blackberry and elderberry, and pepper-crusted teriyaki beef. 2008 Martinelli "Hop Camp Vineyard - Gravel Lens" Russian River Valley Syrah (Previously $65)

92 points Rhone Report: "The 2008 Martinelli Syrah Hop Camp Vineyard 'Gravel Lens' (Grave lens refers to the rare soil characteristic of alluvial soil layers interleaved with layers of gravel) is a big, beautifully fruited Syrah that possess touches of northern Rhone like qualities mainly on the nose. Blackberry, cracked pepper, mineral, and hints of chocolate all emerge, and this fleshes out over the evening and gains floral and violets characteristics, as well as notable complexity and a layered profile. 2014 Lewis Cellars Napa Valley Syrah

95 points Wine Spectator: "Bold, polished and impeccably structured, with black raspberry and smoky mocha aromas and rich, complex flavors of blueberry, spiced cinnamon and licorice. Tannins ease in and frame the finish. Drink now through 2029" (11/2016) Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star* Unbridled ripeness simply steals the scene here, and, if the wine is undeniably rich, it is far more directed by chocolate and sweet oak than by specific Syrah spice. It is quite full in body and fairly thick on the palate with palpable heat flaring up at the finish, but it still impresses with its strength and sheer volu ...Read More »

2013 Stolpman "Estate" Ballard Canyon Syrah

92 points Vinous: "The 2013 Syrah Estate offers up the typical Stolpman Syrah palette of dark flavors, but with a bit more cut and overall energy from the greater diurnal shifts that characterized the growing season. Graphite, smoke, black cherry, plum and menthol are all pushed forward in this tasty, richly textured Syrah from Stolpman. (AG)" (9/2016) 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "**Two Stars and a Good Value** Once again a Syrah that tempers its ripeness and very deep and precise fruit with a careful winemaking hand, Stolpman's Estate Grown version is a rich and well-polished wine whose potency is matc ...Read More »

2014 Herman Story "Nuts & Bolts" California Syrah

Lavish on the palate with sticky grippy tannins, the flavors of blueberry fudge, cola, black pepper and lavender are bold and delicious." (2/2017) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A year in, year out killer wine, the 2014 Syrah Nuts and Bolts is another stunner that gives up ripe, full throttle notes of blackberries, peppered meats, game and singed leather. 2015 Arnot-Roberts North Coast Syrah

Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Roberts were named "Winemakers of the Year" in 2012 by the San Francisco Chronicle, and the duo has been going from success to success vintage after vintage. Antonio Galloni, writing for the Wine Advocate, called Arnot-Roberts "one of the most exciting young wineries in California, or anywhere for that matter." Their Syrahs come from cooler vineyards, and this entry-level version has the tension, pepperiness and vibrant dark fruit you would expect.

2014 Ramey Sonoma Coast Syrah

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "From a range of vineyards including Cole and Rodgers Creek, this blend is thick and soft, highlighted in charcuterie, black licorice and tar aromas. Birch and leather add more savory personality, as the nose continues to suggest the aromatic landscape of an Italian deli. It’s cofermented with a small percentage of Viognier. (VB)" (4/2017) 91 points Vinous: "The 2014 Syrah (Sonoma Coast) is striking in its beauty. 2014 Qupé Central Coast Syrah

Wine & Spirits: "Bob Lindquist’s multivineyard blend has its typical savory bent in 2014-tobacco, dried herbs, bitter chocolate, tangy acidity. It’s lean and simple, a quaffable syrah for pork chops." (10/2016) K&L Notes: Qupé (pronounced 'kyoo-pay') is the Chumash Indian word for California poppy, and for many, is also the "first word" in the Central Coast area's Rhône-style wines.

As with the 2012, it’s a prime candidate for drinking over the coming couple of years. (JD)" (8/2014) K&L Notes: The ninth vintage and one that the winemaker calls his favorite yet. 2012 Copain "Hawk's Butte" Yorkville Highlands Syrah (Previously $55)

94 points Vinous: "Dense, meaty and powerful to the core, the 2013 Syrah Hawkes Butte is a wine built on structure. The contours are a bit angular, but there is nevertheless plenty of depth, resonance and pure power. This is one of the more massive wines in the range, but there is quite a bit to admire in the wine's dark, mysterious personality. The 50% whole clusters are nearly buried by the intensity of the fruit and firm tannins that need at least a year or two to soften. 2014 Lewis Cellars "Ethan's" Napa Valley Syrah

Connoisseurs Guide: "*One Star* Here is a case where we prefer the lesser priced of a pair, and, while this wine may once again be very ripe, it does a slightly better job at articulating the fruit and the spice of Syrah. It is no less full and weighty than its partner below, yet it takes a step back from the brink of being overly extravagant and, by a small margin, is more comfortably balanced in a way that allows its varietal voice to prevail over chocolaty ripeness. 2013 Unti "Benchlands" Dry Creek Valley Syrah

Always one of our favorite Unti wines, the 2013 Benchland Syrah comes from fruit grown in a small section of the family's six-acre vineyard on the eastside Dry Creek Bench. It's ink-black in the glass, with just a touch of crimson at the rim, with intense aromas of Italian bresaola, blackberries, smoke and chocolate that all carry over the palate. An intensely structured Syrah, this will benefit from another year in the cellar, but it's already knitting together quite nicely.

Its initially open and accessible, blackberry flavors run afoul of toughening astringency at the end, but it is not at all hard to taste continuous fruit through its ample tannins. 2012 Sine Qua Non "Stock" Central Coast Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2012 Sine Qua Non "Stock" Central Coast Syrah (98RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A step up from the Grenache, the blockbuster-styled 2012 Syrah Stock checks in as a blend of 84% Syrah, 7% Grenache, 6% Petit Sirah, and the rest Viognier and Mourvedre, that was fermented with 32% whole clusters and aged in just over half new French oak. It offers stunning notes of blackcurrants, cassis, smoked meats, ground pepper and wild herbs to go with a full-bodied, unctuous, layered, yet always graceful and elegant feel on the palate. Nicely structured, with perfect overall balance, it still has the open-knit character of the vintage, yet has plenty of underlying structure, which at the moment is slightly hidden by the wine's lavish fruit. It will be better in 2-3 years, and have two decades of overall longevity. (JD)" (08/2015)

2012 Sine Qua Non "Stock" Central Coast Syrah

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A step up from the Grenache, the blockbuster-styled 2012 Syrah Stock checks in as a blend of 84% Syrah, 7% Grenache, 6% Petit Sirah, and the rest Viognier and Mourvedre, that was fermented with 32% whole clusters and aged in just over half new French oak. It offers stunning notes of blackcurrants, cassis, smoked meats, ground pepper and wild herbs to go with a full-bodied, unctuous, layered, yet always graceful and elegant feel on the palate. Nicely structured, with perfect overall balance, it still has the open-knit character of the vintage, yet has ple ...Read More »

2014 Arnot Roberts Que Syrah Vineyard Syrah

95 points Vinous: "The 2014 Que Syrah Vineyard is another deep, super-intense Syrah. Specifically, the interplay of varietal aromatics and deep, pliant fruit - rare to see in the same site - play off each other in a wine that dazzles from start to finish. Inky blue/purplish fruit, spices, mint, lavender and dark spices add shades of nuance on the long, beautifully persistent finish. Like all the Arnot-Roberts Syrahs, the Que Syrah was done with 100% whole clusters and aged in neutral oak. Childhood friends Duncan Arnot and Nathan Roberts have turned out a spectacular set o ...Read More »

2013 Ojai "Roll Ranch" Ventura County Syrah

96 points Vinous: "The 2013 Syrah Roll Ranch is a dark, heady wine. Truffle, smoke, lavender and blueberry jam give the 2013 much of its exotic personality. Super-ripe and racy in the glass, the 2013 tastes like it was picked on the later side. Even so, the Roll Ranch retains the very classic Ojai mid-weight sense of structure. This is one of the more exuberant, flamboyant wines in the Ojai range this year, but firm tannins extend the finish and give the wine a closing burst of energy. This is another stellar set of new releases from Adam Tolmach and Fabien Castel at Ojai ...Read More »

2005 Jonata "La Sangre de Jonata" Santa Ynez Valley Syrah

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 100% Syrah offering, the 2005 La Sangre de Jonata, exhibits an inky/blue/purple hue along with a stunningly pure nose of melted licorice, meat juices, blackberries, pepper, and a hint of balsamic. It is a wine of extraordinary density, richness, high tannin, beautiful purity, laser-like acidity, and superb texture as well as length. This remarkable Syrah is both powerful and elegant. Give it several more years of bottle age, and consume it over the following 10-15 years. This remarkable Santa Ynez estate is under the same ownership as Napa Valley’s S ...Read More »

2008 Colgin "IX Estate" Napa Valley Syrah

95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright full ruby. Pungent aromas of candied blueberry, minerals, lavender, crushed stone, roasted meat, mocha and black olive; youthful but already expressive. Pliant, rich and deep, with terrific verve and incipient complexity to the intense flavors of black cherry, salty minerality, game and white pepper. Really exhilarating high-toned floral/wild herb character and inner-mouth tension. Still an infant, and extremely long on the aftertaste. This reminded me of a top Syrah bottling from Cayuse. 95+ (ST)" (3/2013) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Interesting French-like Syrahs are also ma ...Read More »

2009 Colgin "IX Estate" Napa Valley Syrah

97 points James Suckling: "This shows so much dark fruit, spice, berry and minerals incense. Full body, with lots of black pepper, spice and berry. It's so dense and beautiful. The purity of fruit is all there. Hard not to drink now. But will improve for many years ahead." (5/2014) 96 points Vinous: "The Araujo and Colgin Syrahs had something in common in that they were first and foremost wines of place. Along similar lines, 2009 Colgin's Syrah from IX Estate on Pritchard Hill, was very much defined by a hillside sense of structure. (AG)" (6/2013) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I could have sworn the 2009 IX Estate Syrah had some Vio ...Read More »
