2013 Holus Bolus Sta. Rita Hills Syrah

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "#6 on Top 100 *Best of 2016, Editors' Choice* Though this bottling is Peter Hunken's least-expensive Syrah, it gives his single-vineyard expressions a serious run for the money for best of vintage. Amazing aromas of chipped asphalt, smoked beef, dense boysenberry, soy, cedar, sandalwood and soy drop into a palate of peppery berry juice, beef jerky, underripe blackberry and elderberry, and pepper-crusted teriyaki beef. 2015 Andrew Murray "Tous les Jours" Santa Ynez Valley Syrah

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Syrah Tous les Jours has a medium to deep garnet-purple color and slightly reduced/rubbery nose to begin, giving way to notes of black and red cherries, black plums and mulberries, plus touches of tar and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, with a nice chewy texture and plenty of earthy black fruit in the mouth, it has a pleasantly savory, if relatively uncomplicated, character. 2015 Tensley "Colson Canyon Vineyard" Santa Barbara County Syrah

95 points Rhone Report: "The 2015 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard is a straight up, beast of a Syrah. Its glass staining purple color is followed by a smorgasbord of Syrah goodness; blackberry jam, plums, exotic flowers, hints of tapenade, scrub brush and violets all literally soar from the glass. This gives way to a full-bodied, unctuous, and concentrated 2015 that has sweet tannin, notable freshness and a great finish. It’s primary and incredibly un-evolved, and needs 2-3 years of cellaring, yet is a sensational wine. 2014 Shafer "Relentless" Napa Valley Syrah

92-95 points Vinous: "Shafer's 2014 Relentless is fabulous. The most expressive and varietally expressive of the three vintages of Relentless I tasted. In 2014, Relentless has 11% Petite Sirah, which, along with the personality of the year, kicks up the aromatics and flavors in a meaningful way. Lavender, mint, violets and crème de cassis notes are laced into the super-expressive finish. The 2014 is shaping up to be a real gem. (AG)" (10/2015)

2015 Halcón "Alturas" Yorkville Highlands Syrah

94 points Rhone Report: "The 2015 Syrah Alturas is also a beauty that has a passing resemblance to a good vintage of Guigal’s Côte Rôtie la Mouline (just with less oak). Violets, incense, spring flowers, blackberries and blueberry notes all flow to a full-bodied, elegant, seamlessly textured Syrah that has plenty of classic pepper and spice, solid mid-palate depth and ripe tannin on the finish. It needs an hour in the decanter if drinking over the coming 2-3 years, and will have 15+ years of overall longevity. 2014 Stolpman "Estate" Ballard Canyon Syrah

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dark aromas of black currant and black olive meet with charred beef and supple herbs of dill and anise on this wine's excellent nose. The sip is very full and hefty in body, allied with a juicy acidity and fruity character of concentrated blackberry that's imminently appealing. More elegant touches of lavender, rosemary and incense round out the palate." (3/2017) 91 points Vinous: "The 2014 Syrah Estate is surprisingly succulent for a young Stolpman Syrah, which Peter Stolpman attributes to warmer nights and softer extractions. 90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "*Good Value* We are never surprised by the quality and consistent value that Morgan’s Syrahs provide, but this exceptionally well-made effort earns an especially appreciative tip of the CGCW cap. It is rich, full and fleshy with great varietal integrity, and its deep, very precise, blackberry fruit is infused with plenty of the grape’s distinctive pepper-and-game spice. 2015 Melville "Estate" Sta. Rita Hills Syrah

92 points Vinous: "The 2015 Syrah Estate (Sta. Rita Hills) is very pretty, but like all of these 2015s, it also needs time to be at its best. Floral and lifted, with tons of energy and tannin, the 2015 is shaping up to be a real beauty. Hints of lavender, licorice, smoke, plum and black cherry build into the super-expressive finish in this soulful midweight Syrah from Melville. 2015 Arnot-Roberts Sonoma Coast Syrah

92 points John Gilman: "The 2015 Sonoma Coast cuvée from Arnot-Roberts is a beautiful, low octane and very classically styled bottle of Syrah. The wine tips the scales at a cool 12.5 percent, is fermented with indigenous yeasts and is one hundred percent whole clusters, with the elevage taking place in older casks. The bouquet is deep, pure and youthful, wafting from the glass in a blend of cassis, pepper, a touch of black raspberry, spiced meats, lovely soil tones and a youthful touch of stems. 2014 Qupé Central Coast Syrah

Wine & Spirits: "Bob Lindquist’s multivineyard blend has its typical savory bent in 2014-tobacco, dried herbs, bitter chocolate, tangy acidity. It’s lean and simple, a quaffable syrah for pork chops." (10/2016) K&L Notes: Qupé (pronounced 'kyoo-pay') is the Chumash Indian word for California poppy, and for many, is also the "first word" in the Central Coast area's Rhône-style wines.

It has terrific purity and a great finish, and should drink nicely for at least 4-5 years, probably longer. Note, the 2014 includes 10% Petite Sirah and spent nine months in neutral oak. Buy a case. 2012 Baker Lane "Sonoma Coast Cuvée" Sonoma Coast Syrah

From the winery: "The 2014 Cuvee is again a selection out of our Estate vineyard production, always a good thing but perhaps never more so than in this exceptional vintage. In many respects, it is a near carbon copy of our breakthrough 2012 effort: deep blue violet, penetrating aromas of black fruits and meaty/savory elements, all backed by well integrated tannins and crisp acidity. With as much blackberry fruit as one would like, it is inky bluish purple in color, with sensational ripeness, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and tremendous extract in a massive style.

2013 Sine Qua Non "Male" California Syrah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2013 Sine Qua Non "Male" California Syrah (98RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Syrah Male is an elegant, seamless Syrah that exudes class in its creme de cassis, black raspberry, smoked meats, graphite and asphalt-laced bouquet. This is a blend of 80% Syrah, 7% Petite Sirah, 6% Mourvèdre, 3.5% Touriga National and 3.5% Viognier, fermented with 28% whole clusters and aged 25 months in 65% new French oak. It's full-bodied, beautifully layered, silky and seamless, with no hard edges and wonderful freshness in both the aromatics and palate. Give bottles 3-4 years and enjoy over the following 10-15. 2014 Marietta "Gibson Block" McDowell Valley Syrah

93 points Vinous: "The 2014 Estate Syrah Gibson Block, a Syrah-based field blend, exudes depth and concentration. Black cherry, blackberry, cloves, leather and licorice give the wine its inner sweetness and textural richness, but there is also plenty of aromatic freshness and lift. Violet, camphor, savory herb and scorched earth give the wine a real sense of gravitas. I was quite frankly blown away by the wines I tasted at Marietta this year. Brothers Scot and Jake Bilbro have decided to each concentrate on separate properties. In practical terms that means Scot is now run ...Read More »

2012 Sine Qua Non "Stock" Central Coast Syrah
Bid on this bottle of 2012 Sine Qua Non "Stock" Central Coast Syrah (98RP, 96VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A step up from the Grenache, the blockbuster-styled 2012 Syrah Stock checks in as a blend of 84% Syrah, 7% Grenache, 6% Petit Sirah, and the rest Viognier and Mourvedre, that was fermented with 32% whole clusters and aged in just over half new French oak. It offers stunning notes of blackcurrants, cassis, smoked meats, ground pepper and wild herbs to go with a full-bodied, unctuous, layered, yet always graceful and elegant feel on the palate. Nicely structured, with perfect overall balance, it still has the open-knit character of the vintage, yet has plenty of underlying structure, which at the moment is slightly hidden by the wine's lavish fruit. It will be better in 2-3 years, and have two decades of overall longevity. (JD)" (08/2015)

2006 Pax "Cuvée Moriah" Sonoma County Rhône Blend

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Strikingly fresh and pure bouquet of strawberry, raspberry and dried flowers; smells like Pinot Noir. Clean and brisk, with a silky texture, sweet red berry flavors and soft tannins. Becomes chewier on the finish but maintains admirable finesse and clarity, closing with tangy mineral lift. Pretty suave stuff. (ST)" (5/2008)

2004 Pax "Griffin's Lair" Sonoma Coast Syrah

94-97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of my favorite Pax offerings, the deep purple-colored 2004 Syrah Griffin’s Lair is much lower in alcohol in 2004 (14.8%) than in previous vintages. Lovely aromas of blackberries, cassis, new saddle leather, roasted meats, and smoky barbecue are followed by a full-bodied wine with fabulous intensity, definition, and length. It requires 2-3 years of bottle age, and should last for two decades, making it one of the longest lived Pax Syrahs to date." (12/2005) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium ruby. Spicy aromas of raw plum, smoked meat, pepper and exotic fruits. Lush, pliant and sw ...Read More »
