2012 Cantine Ascheri Barolo

94 points Wine Spectator: "Licorice, cherry and tar notes mark this intense, chewy red, packed with sweet fruit midpalate that offsets the dense, dusty tannins. Shows fine integration and length, with the aftertaste echoing licorice, cherry, tar and mineral details. Best from 2019 through 2035." (7/2016) 92 points James Suckling: "A red with lots of ripe fruit such as plum, strawberry and leather both on the nose and palate. Full body, velvety tannins and a fresh finish. Drink or hold." 2011 Rivella Barbaresco Top Pick!
2011 Rivella Barbaresco

92 points Vinous: "The 2011 Barbaresco is round, sensual and inviting, with tons of near and medium-term appeal. This is an especially large-scaled, ample entry-level Barbaresco that shows just how compelling this vintage is here in the Barbaresco zone. Ripe, silky tannins wrap around the voluptuous, engaging finish. The Barbaresco emerges from a parcel just outside Montestefano with a more northerly exposure that in this vintage helped preserve nuance and precision. This is a striking wine from the Rivella family. (AG)" (11/2015) K&L Notes: The Barbaresco comes from 1.5 acres of viney... Read More »

2008 Bava Castiglione Falletto Barolo

These grapes come exclusively from vineyards planted in a calcareous-clay soil in the commune of Castiglione Falletto, home to producers like Vietti, Cavalotto and Scavino. Fermented in wooden tanks and then aged in a blend of 50hl barrels and some older barriques for three years. The 2008 vintage was classically styled. This is elegant, aromatic and supple with a bit of tannic grip in the finish.

2011 Produttori del Barbaresco "Ovello" Barbaresco Riserva (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Vinous: "The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello, from one of the coolest zones in Barbaresco, is superb. Here it is the wine's precision and energy - both hard to come by in 2011 - that really stand out. Pine, mint, chalk, bright red berries, blood orange and white pepper are some of the signatures in a brilliant, finely-cut Barbaresco that captures the best of both the vintage and this site. Don't miss it! (AG)" (12/2015) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "his vineyard site seems to have absorbed much of the summer heat. 2011 Produttori del Barbaresco "Muncagota" Barbaresco Riserva

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is reflective of the warm vintage. This is a solid and slightly rigid expression that shows hints of cherry marmalade, rum cake and prune. Those heavy aromas lift to reveal a wine with dark red cherry and mild spice at its core. Subtle background tones of balsam herb and rosemary oil add extra dimension. In the mouth, the wine delivers a point of sharpness or tartness. Overall, this wine is not as open as the others in this beautiful series of Riserva wines. It's always a special year when the venerated Produttori de ...Read More »

But it will age wonderfully." (9/2015) 92 points Wine Spectator: "A fluid, spicy version, with cherry, strawberry, licorice, black pepper and cumin flavors. Best from 2019 through 2035.—B.S" (6/2016) 92 points Vinous: "The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is sweet, round and sensual. Beautifully layered in the glass, the Pora is absolutely exquisite, with plenty of sweet red cherry, plum, mint and spice notes woven throughout. The Bava winery is in the Province of Alba where Barbera is King! So what do you do when you want to make Nebbiolo? Hmmmm, you can't put it on the label…Damn. The Bava Brothers, a creative bunch, decided to go American and name this wine after a real American tradition, Band-Aids, (evidently at a winery you go through a lot of them). So Johnson & Johnson was too long, they switched to Johnson but that's unpronounceable for an Italian so …..Gionson! That's how you say Johnson in Italian! This small selection of Barbaresco comes from a single vineyard, according to the producer: "Ageing in wood, this wine develops harmonious sensations with floral and spicy notes and an intense colour. The wine is full and generous with tones of dark fruit, spice, balsam herb, licorice and dried mint. Part of this fruit was fermented in French oak barrels that confer added depth, volume and tannin, none of which Montestefano lacks, in my view. 2011 Produttori del Barbaresco "Ovello" Barbaresco Riserva 1.5L (Pre-Arrival)

The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a round and ripe wine with dark fruit, black ...Read More »

2011 Sandro Fay "Costa Bassa" Valtellina Superiore

Sandro Fay has been producing wines in Valtellina for the past 40 years, and is dedicated to single-vineyard expressions of this unique and historic terroir. 2010 Francesco Rinaldi Barolo

90 points James Suckling: "Light-colored red with an amber edge. Aromas of tar, ripe strawberry, flower and walnut follow through to a medium to full body, fine, chewy tannins and a fresh finish. Better in 2016 when it softens." (8/2014) 90 points Vinous: "Rinaldi's 2010 Barolo captures the essence of this great vintage in its purity, tension and energy. A host of exotic spices, tangerine, soy, crushed flowers and tobacco lend nuance on the bright red-toned fruit. All the Nebbiolo signatures come together in a very pretty, exquisite Barolo that punches above its weight. The estate's Barolo is made fro ...Read More »

2011 Einaudi "Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi" Barolo

93 points Vinous: "The 2011 Barolo Terlo Vigna Costa Grimaldi is the most complete of the wines in this range, largely the result of this site's slightly shelted exposure, something that is always an asset in warmer years. Expressive aromatic overtones add lift and precision to a core of pliant, racy fruit in a Barolo that captures the best qualities of the vintage while retaining plenty of poise. Dark red stone fruits, cherry pit, menthol and cinnamon are some of the many notes that are laced into the enticing finish. The Costa Grimaldi is quite a bit deeper and darker th ...Read More »

2010 ArPePe "Rocca del Piro" Grumello Riserva Valtellina Superiore

91 points Vinous: "The 2010 Valtellina Superiore Grumello Riserva Rocca del Piro is an excellent choice for drinking in the near and medium-term, as it has a little more mid-palate fleshiness than some of the other wines in the range. At the same time, the 2010 is also less aromatically expressive, while the acidity feels softer and more integrated with the fruit. Sweet red cherry, cherry pit, smoke, dried herbs, tobacco and anise are some of the many notes that meld into the pliant finish. Within the context of traditionally made Valtellina Nebbiolo, the 2010 Rocca del Pi ...Read More »
