2012 Agostino Bosco "La Serra" Barolo Top Pick!
2012 Agostino Bosco "La Serra" Barolo

94 points James Suckling: "Lots of ripe strawberry, licorice, aniseed and rose petal on the nose. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a fresh finish. Vibrant and muscular for the vintage. Slightly better than the already excellent 2011. Try in 2020." (3/2016) 91 points Vinous: "Bosco Agostino's 2012 Barolo La Serra is a very pretty La Morra Barolo. Dark cherry, tobacco, smoke, licorice and leather are front and center. The La Serra tannins, often quite pronounced in wines from this site, are nicely integrated. I would prefer to drink the 2012 sooner rather than later. This is an especially dark styl ...Read More »

2012 Ettore Germano "Prapo" Barolo

The firm palate offers ripe Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, pipe tobacco and licorice while firm, velvety tannins lend finesse. This won’t need years to come around but it also shows staying power. Drink 2019-2027" (2/2017) 90 points Vinous: "A dense, powerful wine, the 2012 Barolo Prapò shows plenty of Serralunga muscle. Iron, smoke, licorice, herbs and a host of savory notes underpin a core of intense dark red stone fruit. The 2012 exudes virile intensity from start to finish. (AG) ...Read More »

98 points James Suckling: "A gorgeous nose of orange peel, plums and light walnuts. Some wet earth. Full to medium body with a compacted center palate. A tight ball of ripe, fine tannins. Minerals and hot stones underneath. Serious structure. No Monfortino was made so it's all here. Better in 2022." (11/2016) 97 points Vinous: "The 2012 Barolo Francia is wonderfully expressive today. Much more open than the Barolo Cerretta tasted alongside it, the Francia bristles with energy. It's bright and fresh, with young, tightly wound tannins that need time to unfurl. Drink 2018-2031. 2013 Vietti "Lazzarito" Barolo

96 points Vinous: "This tasting of the 2013 Barolo Lazzarito confirms just how far the wine has come along in recent vintages. Creamy, ample and potent, the 2013 offers an intriguing interplay of aromatics, fruit and structural underpinnings. Gravel, smoke, tar and dark fruit - all signatures of this Serralunga site - are front and center, but it is the wine's overall balance that is most impressive. Scorched earth, leather, smoke and graphite are some of the many notes that reapper on the finish. The 2013 is a real stunner. (3/2016) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "With fruit sourced from various points within the Castiglione Falletto township, the 2012 Barolo Castiglione continues on its promise to offer a solid drinking experience based purely on quality Nebbiolo. This small producer continues to rock it." (4/2015) 92 points Vinous: "Agostino Bosco's 2011 Barolo La Serra is a terrific example of this high-altitude La Morra site. Specifically, the piercing veins of tannin that are such a signature of La Serra are very much in evidence. Red cherry, white pepper and chalk add to the wine's sculpted personality. Cocchi Barolo Chinato (500ml)

Pronounced key-knot-o. To begin with, this specialized wine product will not appeal to every wine drinker out there. But for those of us with mature palates, and those who appreciate the natural flavoring agent that gives tonic water its distinctive bite (quinine), a glass of Cocchi's Barolo Chinato is not a vinous experience you're likely to soon forget! 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell’Annunziata has developed beautifully since I last tasted it a few years ago. That said, I am amazed how bright and primary the fruit still is. Sweet, perfumed aromatics lead to a core of silky fruit as this elegant, pedigreed Barolo emerges from the glass. The rich, intense aromas layer vanilla, coffee and buttercream over a framework of tart cherries, which explode in the mouth into a panopoly of red fruits. The tannins are plentiful—creating a rich texture—yet supple, showing great ripeness on the finish." (4/2004) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium ruby. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Conterno Fantino "Vigna del Gris" Barolo (94VN, 93ST, 93WS, 92JS). Vinous: "The 2010 Barolo Vigna del Gris is beautiful, layered and expressive. Sweet tobacco, mint, licorice, crushed flowers and plums meld together in a supple, gracious wine for the year. Sweet rose petals and mint add an attractive upper register of trademark aromatics and perfume as the wine opens up in the glass. The 2010 remains dense and compact, but it is impossible to miss that the tannins here are more refined than has typically been the case with the Gris in the past, which is probably the result of vines getting older. The 2010 needs time to unwind, but it is quite pretty and full of potential. 2007 Elio Grasso "Gavarini Chiniera" Barolo
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2007 Elio Grasso "Gavarini Chiniera" Barolo (93JS, 93RP, 93ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Barolo Gavarini Vigna Chiniera opens with an exotic bouquet of candied red fruit, flowers, mint and minerals. This is an unusually opulent, racy style for Grasso. The Gavarini is a touch hot and alcoholic at first, but with several hours of air, that quality seemed to resolve itself nicely. Silky, beautifully integrated tannins frame a finish of exceptional elegance. The personality of the year marks the Gavarini to a significant degree. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027.
