2015 Ferrero "Pepita" Rosso di Toscana Back In Stock!
2015 Ferrero "Pepita" Rosso di Toscana

I've always loved this wine ever since we helped create it. Pablo Harri, the winemaker and husband of the eponymous Claudia Ferrero, had planted a vineyard just south across the river from their estate in Montalcino with 35% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Montepulciano and 17% Alicante grapes. Initially he produced 100% varietals from each that were good and even well scored with the critics, but they were impossible to sell. We were all sitting at a table at the winery when I thought: what if we just blend them all together? So I grabbed some gla... Read More »

Incredible depth. Like looking over the edge of a skyscraper. Powerful and structured. A great Tignanello. A little more sangiovese than usual. Best since the legendary 1997?" (1/2018)

2015 Piaggia "Il Sasso" Carmignano

95 points Vinous: "Piaggia's 2015 Carmignano Il Sasso is rich, ample and voluptuous in what is a very representative expression of the year. Black cherry, plum, lavender, spice, tobacco and dried herbs develop in the glass, but the 2015 is all about fruit intensity and texture. There is not much subtlety here, but wow, is the 2015 gorgeous. (AG)" (4/2018)

2015 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Le Volte" Toscana

92 points James Suckling: "A fine-grained and focused red with berry, coffee and spice aromas and flavors. Medium body and a clean finish. Extremely pretty and delicious to drink now." (8/2017) 90 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Le Volte is another outstanding wine from this terrific estate. Made from 67% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Sangiovese, aged 10 months in a mix of concrete tanks and barrels, it offers jammy black cherry and blackberry fruits, hints of licorice, graphite, and dried earth, medium body, ripe, polished tannin, and a great finish. Needs a year or two to open." (10/2017) 93 points Wine Spectator: "A pure streak of raspberry and peony marks this elegant red, with accents of black pepper, earth, graphite and tobacco. Firm, stretching out on the finish, showing echoes of fruit, earth and mineral. Best from 2019 through 2033. 2015 Trinoro "Le Cupole" Toscana Top Pick!
2015 Trinoro "Le Cupole" Toscana

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Le Cupole feels downplayed next to the other new releases from Tenuta di Trinoro in this exuberant and opulent 2015 vintage. This blend of Bordeaux grapes is slightly more immediate and accessible in approach. That said, it is far more sophisticated and richly textured compared to the great majority of wines from the surrounding hillsides of Tuscany. Black cherry, sweet spice and tarry earth converge on the bouquet. The mouthfeel is slightly sweet and rich in texture. Full bodied, with soft and velvety tannins and an amazing depth of fruit. Balanced and super long. I can't get over the wonderful texture to this young red. It touches every inch of your palate and caresses it. Leave it for four or five years still, but it's hard not to drink." Vibrant, powerful and structured, the 2013 is a thoroughbred that is going to need a number of years to be at its best. Black cherry, plum, exotic spice, graphite, sage and lavender infuse the intense, massively powerful finish. This fruit was picked on October 3 and 4, which is on the later side for the estate. 2014 Fontodi "Flaccianello della Pieve" Toscana

96 points Vinous: "The 2014 Flaccianello della Pieve will probably drink well a bit earlier than the Vigna del Sorbo, as it has more midpalate creaminess, softer contours and a slightly more immediate personality. Even so, the translucent finesse of the vintage is very much in evidence. A rush of black cherry, plum, tobacco, licorice, chocolate and spice infuses the sweet, creamy finish. The 2014 spent 18 months in oak (less than was once the norm), 80% of it new. 1990 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia "Ornellaia" Toscana

96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good fresh deep red. Knockout nose combines black fruits, tar, mocha and humus. A hugely concentrated, sweet wine with great richness of fruit and extract. The first vintage of Ornellaia to reach 14% alcohol, and it shows in the wine's compelling thickness. Far from the subtlest wine in the range, but ripe acidity and big, sweet tannins give it plenty of verve and grip. Today, I find this wine fresher and a bit more detailed than the estate's 2000. Classic notes of tobacco, dried cherries, spices, leather and underbrush all emerge from this sweet, layered offering. This richly textured generous Tignanello has put on significant weight in bottle and shows remarkable overall balance. In 1999 Tignanello comes across as more complete than Solaia. Our panel consisted of some two dozen professional wine tasters from around the world, and virtually not a word was uttered with regards to this wine. That's how truly outstanding it is. The soaring beauty of this landmark Sassicaia literally transcends the rather mundane realm of wine critique with its string of adjectives and wearisome descriptors. It hardly deserves to be treated like any of the other gorgeous wines we tasted on this glorious day. In truth, the 1985 Sassicaia does reveal a new perspective onto its perfection each time you have the fortune to taste it. 1978 Antinori "Tignanello" Toscana
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1978 Antinori "Tignanello" Toscana. Wine Spectator: "Forty years ago, Piero Antinori outraged the Italian wine world with the first release of a red blend that was quite untraditionally Tuscan, Tignanello. A few years later, he followed that with Solaia, which also blended the Bordeaux grapes Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc with the local Sangiovese. Together, they helped create a new category—super Tuscan—and the future of Tuscany was set in motion....They are produced from separate but contiguous vineyards on the Tignanello estate, located in the heart of the Chianti Classico appellation, so they share similar terroir. The elevations range from 1,150 to 1,325 feet, and the soil is rich in limestone and clay. The site was selected, Antinori explained, because it 'had always been recognized as the best vineyard in the area.'" ("How Antinori Changed the Face of Tuscany," 10/2014)

Hard not to drink now but a wine for decades. *Top 100 of 2017*" (8/2017) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "No surprise, Tua Rita delivers yet another unbelievable edition of its legendary Merlot from Coastal Tuscany.
