Bordeaux

We're extremely focused on Bordeaux - several staff members fly over to the region on multiple trips each year to taste new vintages from barrel and older vintages from bottle. K&L also enjoys excellent relationships with negociants and châteaux, and over the years we've established outstanding allocations on the top wines. It hasn't hurt that one of K&L's owners is a complete Bordeaux fanatic and our main buyer. The top red wines are typically blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc and the white are primarily Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, though the blends vary substantially depending on which part of the region you're talking about. Within Bordeaux you'll also find the sweet wines of Sauternes. Interested in great Bordeaux? Look no further...

Thank the emerging region of Cotes de Castillon for this spectacular deal in red Bordeaux from the well-balanced 2015 vintage. Everyone who loves wine knows, it is hard to find a steal in Bordeaux these days, but this wine offers a lot of wine for the money, with layers of lush up-front black and red fruit characteristics, cellar-able, too, over the short term.

A rush of black cherry, plum, chocolate and leather give the wine its bombastic, flamboyant personality. Large and ample to its core, the 2014 is seriously opulent and extracted, and yet all the elements are fused together beautifully. 2014 Beaumont, Haut-Médoc

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors’ Choice* The vineyard is in the heart of the Haut-Médoc, midway between Margaux and Saint-Julien. The wine is solid, dark and with plenty of firm tannins. At the same time, it has concentrated black fruits and a fine blend between black-currant acidity and ripe jammy fruitiness. Drink from 2020. (RV)" (4/2017) 90-91 points James Suckling: "A solid wine with tar, dark chocolate and berry character. Full and chewy. Impressive." (3/2015)

2010 La Cardonne, Médoc

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A superb blend of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc, the 2010 from this well-known property has performed as well as I’ve ever tasted. A sleeper of the vintage, this endearing style of wine has copious quantities of ripe black cherry and black currant fruit interwoven with hints of forest floor, licorice and subtle background oak. It is medium to full-bodied, rich, textured and, overall, an enormously seductive style of wine to drink over the next 7-8 years. (RP)" (2/2013)

2009 Puygueraud, Côtes de Francs Top Pick!
2009 Puygueraud, Côtes de Francs

92 points James Suckling: "Violets and blackberries with hints of spices on the nose. Full body, with soft and velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Drink now or hold. Always excellent value." (3/2012) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and the rest Malbec is from the Thienpont family. (Puygueraud is the estate where this large clan was born.) The 2009 is impressive, but the estate somewhat under-the-radar, since it is hard to pronounce and not exactly a household name. This is a beautifully fleshy wine with loads of licorice, spring flowers, graphite and black fruits. Flesh ...Read More »

2016 l'Avocat Blanc, Graves Top Pick!
2016 l'Avocat Blanc, Graves

L'Avocat is in the small commune of Cerons, which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. The vineyards were purchased by Nicola and Sean Allison in 2002; the fruit was previously sold to Mouton Rothschild. At 300 feet above the Garrone River, the vineyards have stunning views of the lovely Côtes de Bordeaux. The vineyard's elevation is a key factor in its great drainage, and the soil is loaded with different color gravel that imparts textbook minerality to both their whites and reds.

Like a tight ball of silky thread. Seamless. Try drinking in 2020." (2/2017) 94 points Vinous: "The 2014 Gloria is a bold, powerful wine. 2015 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2015 Malescot-St-Exupéry, Margaux (Pre-Arrival)

97 points James Suckling: "Some very rich and ripe red and dark berries here make for an impressive, engaging nose that has charming violet undertones. The palate is velvety and supple, while super smooth tannins deliver a long and plush, plum-soaked finish. Great wine and already drinking well. Try from 2023." (2/2018) 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Malescot-St-Exupery has an intriguing and complex bouquet with oyster shells and seaweed infusing the intense black fruit. It is certainly well defined with nicely integrated new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, a keen thread of acidity, v ...Read More »
