2013 Cantelys Blanc, Pessac-Léognan Top Pick!
2013 Cantelys Blanc, Pessac-Léognan

92-93 points James Suckling: "Very intense and lively with lemon and mineral character. Full body with cream acidity and a long finish. Crisp. Tangy and lively. 50% sauvignon blanc and 50% semllion." (4/2014) 89-92 points Wine Spectator: "Tangerine, white peach and green fig notes mingle against a backdrop of lemon shortbread and straw. A light toasty hint gives the finish a flattering edge. (Web Only - 2014)"

1982 Suduiraut, Sauternes

4 stars Michael Broadbent (Nov 1992): "Roasted grapes picked exceptionally early, 16 September. Alcohol 14%. First tasted in 1988: sweet, hefty; minty, spicy; good length and acidity. More recently: waxy yellow; rich bouquet; very sweet, full-bodied. Showing well." This wine is actually better than the heralded 1983 vintage because Suduiraut makes better wines when they pick early in the season.

1970 Suduiraut, Sauternes (high to mid shoulder fill , soiled labels)

According to Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A deep amber colour and a Beerensauslese-lite nose that is well defined, although lacking some botrytis. There are scents of Satsuma, beeswax and just a little chlorine. The palate is commendable, well balanced, a little ginger on the entry leading to a balanced palate with orange rind, Seville orange marmalade, almost Barsac-like on the finish." (08/11)

1988 d'Yquem, Sauternes

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1988 d’Yquem has an incredibly profound nose of orange marmalade, dried apricots, honeycomb, musk and dried pineapple with hints of marzipan and crystallized ginger. The palate is seamless with a great line of crisp acid cutting through the densely packed dried tropical fruit and honeyed flavour layers. The finish just goes on and on. (LPB)." (9/2012) 96 points Wine Spectator: "Lots of of beeswax, botrytis spice and honey, with hints of toffee. Full-bodied, very sweet, thick and layered. Caramel, toffee, spice. Molasses too. Very, very powerful. Muscular and rich. Fabulous Saute ...Read More »

2014 Larrivet-Haut-Brion Blanc, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival)

94-96 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel Sample. Spice, fruit and a rich texture combine to give this wine a wonderful balance and style. As it develops, it is going to have moderate weight and serious intensity." (3/2015) 90-93 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe and very enticing, with lots of shortbread, salted butter, heather and yellow apple fruit flavors that have yet to knit fully, but are stretching out impressively on the lengthy, macadamia nut-accented finish. This white has been sneakily good recently. (Web-2015)" 89-92 points Vinous: "The 2014 Larrivet-Haut-Brion Blanc is built on texture and richness, with considerable new French oak in ...Read More »

1983 Doisy Daene, Barsac

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Doisy-Daene finished its harvest 1 month after d’Yquem, and has possibly produced this property's finest wine in over two decades. A big, ripe bouquet of pineapples, peaches, and spring flowers is very attractive. On the palate, the wine is concentrated, full bodied, and unctuous, without being too heavy or alcoholic. Excellent acidity suggests a long, eventful evolution. (RP)" (3/1990) Wine Spectator: "A pleasant drink and there's even some complexity, but it's not cuddly. Light gold, waxy and sulfury on the nose, sugary sweet, oak, honey, pear, apricot on the palate. ...Read More »

1982 Rieussec, Sauternes

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Rich golden hue. Fragrant nose of butter and strawberries. Powerful palate. Fine acidity. Good level of botrytis. Intense honeyed finish. Lacks some finesse and sophistication but fine for this vintage. (NM)" (6/2001) Wine Spectator: "Thick and ripe. Very golden, with an orange tint. Full-bodied and concentrated, with ripe apricot and lemon flavors. Quite chewy and delicious." (11/1998) K&L Notes: 90 points Richard Jennings, "... light gold color; light, faintly peachy nose; higher acid, medium-plus body, good grip, with resiny edges; medium-plus drying finish 90+ pts." 1981 Climens, Barsac

Jancis Robinson: "Half bottle. Neutral nose. Lots of creamy sweetness. A good bottle! Barsac freshness. Some astringency on the finish. Just drying out a teensy bit on the finish. But good length. A good vintage for Sauternes. 18/20 points." (10/2010)

2012 Larrivet-Haut-Brion Blanc, Pessac-Léognan

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Ripe, creamy and powerful, it’s full of tropical fruits, apricots and peaches, all firmly supported by rich wood flavors. It makes a strong statement of broad fruits and a generous texture while also offering a chance to age. Drink from 2017." (10/2014) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Notes of lanolin, honeysuckle, pineapple and wood smoke emerge from this full-bodied, surprisingly deep, rich, complex white 2012. It should drink well for a decade or more." (4/2013) 91 points James Suckling: "Intense aromas of ripe citrus, tropical fruits and mineral notes. This shows a fresh acidity and a mouth-watering finish. Lots ...Read More »
