1995 Potensac, Médoc Top Pick!
1995 Potensac, Médoc

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Elegant, complex, and evolved, the saturated dark ruby-colored 1995 exhibits herb-tinged, black currant/weedy cassis-like flavors that are supple, round, generous, and appealing. (RP)" (2/1998) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Cooler aromas of dark berries and menthol. Sweet and textured in the mouth; already displaying plenty of personality. Flavors are more evolved than those of the '96, and also more accessible today. Finishes with substantial chewy tannins. (ST)" (5/1998) Wine Spectator: "Very aromatic, with cherry, currant and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fresh, cl ...Read More »

1995 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe

97 points James Suckling: "I always loved this wine from the first time I tasted it in 1998. It has such purity and power yet it's reserved and beautiful. It's one of the best Calons ever. I drank a bottle with some friends in Manhattan last week and it was the wine of the evening. It was full-bodied with silky tannins and a focused and intense finish. Lots of currant and berry character and hints of dried spices. It's finally opening up and giving real pleasure now like so many 1995 Bordeaux at the moment." (6/2016) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Incredible nose of crushed berries, flowers, spices and nuts. Full ...Read More »

1995 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (1.5L)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Black licorice and currants on the nose. Very fragrant. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still needs time to come together.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2008. (JS, Web-2007)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While not as backward as the 1996, the opaque purple-colored 1995 is a tannic, unevolved, dense, concentrated wine that will require 8-10 years of cellaring. The 1995 exhibits pain grille, blackcurrant, mineral, and subtle tobacco in its complex yet youthful aromatics. Powerful, dense, concentrated cassis and blueberry flavors might be marginally soft ...Read More »

1995 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1995 Margaux, Margaux (97WS, 95RP, 94ST). Wine Spectator: "This still broods seriously, with dark plum, currant and blackberry fruit, studded with charcoal, singed tobacco and cedar notes and backed by a serious grip of roasted earth. The gorgeously long finish is driven by old-school tannins, with the smoldering edge going on and on. A brick house of a Margaux, with more charcoal than graphite, more austerity than elegance and more power than refinement. (Web-2014)"

1995 Branaire-Ducru, St-Julien

91 points Wine Spectator: "Currant and black licorice, with a coffee undertone. Plummy. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long caressing finish. A beauty. (JS, Web-2007)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beauty in the elegant, restrained, finesse school of winemaking, the dark ruby/purple-colored 1995 Branaire exhibits a floral, cranberry, cherry, and black currant-scented nose intermixed with high quality toasty new oak. Medium-bodied, with excellent definition, supple tannin, and an attractive, alluring personality, this pleasant, measured yet complex wine should drink well young, and keep for two decades ...Read More »

1995 Carruades de Lafite, Pauillac

Jancis Robinson: "Pretty impressive on the nose. Very intense ruby with hardly any evidence of browning. Rather light and even slightly simple on the palate. Slightly dry tannins insist on the end. A bit chunky. This sample was served perhaps slightly too warm to shine? Mineral finish." (2/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I have noticed in my tastings that the second wine of Lafite-Rothschild, Carruades de Lafite, has improved over recent years. The 1995 is a 40% Merlot/60% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. It exhibits more of the trademark characteristics of its bigger sibling. Elegant, with spicy new oak, ...Read More »

1995 Figeac, St-Émilion (Previously $230.00)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Best Figeac in years. Loads of blackberry, chocolate and stones. Full-bodied and concentrated with masses of tannins and fruit. Long, long finish. Needs time." (1/1998) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property from one of the last remaining imperials, one could argue that the six-liter format would have benefit the 1995 Figeac. Even so, that should not take anything away from this, the best vintage of that decade. Firstly, one notices that it is deeper in color than the underwhelming 1996. Then you fall into the aromatics, a beguiling concocti ...Read More »

1995 Les Forts de Latour, Pauillac

90 points Wine Spectator: "Intense aromas of crushed blackberries and cassis. Full-bodied, with ripe fruit and velvety tannins. Long. Slightly one-dimensional. Needs to develop.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. (Web-2007) (JS)" Jancis Robinson: "Dark crimson with a little age at the rim. Beefy, bloody notes on the nose. Quite open. Already quite soft and round on the front palate with fine tannins only on the very end. You could drink this now with food but there is still lots of life in it. More substantial than the 1996 Forts. Vigorous and powerful. 17.5/20 points." (2/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Latour's second wine, For ...Read More »

1995 Vieux-Château-Certan, Pomerol

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This bottle is not quite in the same league as ones tasted two or three years ago, but the ’95 remains one of Alexandre’s standout wines of that decade. Here, it has a haunting bouquet whereby the Cabernet Franc component is more conspicuous than before, essentially with more Pomerol character developing. There are touches of blackberry, mint and cassis with a meaty element developing in the glass. The palate has plenty of sweet red cherry and boysenberry on the entry, the oak now completely absorbed and with a slightly unruly, almost Rioja-like finish! ...Read More »

1995 Calon-Ségur, St Estèphe (375ml)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Incredible nose of crushed berries, flowers, spices and nuts. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Powerful and solid. Builds on the palate. Give it time. (Web Only- 2007)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The wine is opaque purple-colored. With coaxing, the tight aromatics reveal some weedy cassis intertwined with truffles, chocolate, and beef blood-like aromas. On the palate, there is an element of sur-maturite (1995 was an extremely late harvest at Calon-Ségur), fabulous density and purity, and a boatload of tannin. This deep, broodingly backward, classic Bordeaux ...Read More »

1995 Pavillon Rouge, Margaux

Jancis Robinson: "Darker, blacker colour than the 1996. Light nose. Very airy-fairy Margaux on the nose. Denser on the palate than the 1996 but a bit savage and aggressive in terms of both flavour and texture. Pretty robust aggressive tannins. I would wait a while for this." (2/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This estate's second wine, the 1995 Pavillon du Chateau Margaux, may turn out to be one of the most delicious examples the property has made. The wine is forward, sexy, round, and generous, with gobs of black fruit and a subtle dosage of new oak. (RP)" (2/1998) Wine Spectator: "Beautiful aromas of blackberry and ...Read More »

1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 95VN, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is 'great stuff,' with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. (RP)" (02/1998)

1995 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

93 points James Suckling: "This is surprisingly delicate and fine now with currant and spice character and hints nuts. It is full body with refined texture and a beautiful finish." (1/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A stylish, elegant, more restrained style of Pichon Baron, with less obvious new oak than usual, this deep ruby/purple-colored wine offers a pure black currant-scented nose with subtle aromas of coffee and smoky toasty oak. In the mouth, the wine displays less weight and muscle than the 1996, but it offers suave, elegant, rich fruit presented in a medium to full-bodied, surprisingly lush style. ( ...Read More »

1995 d'Yquem, Sauternes

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served from an ex-chateau bottle. The 1995 Chateau d’Yquem is moving into its secondary aroma phase. A deep golden color, it has a dense and almost Barsac-like bouquet with tangerine, apricot, acacia and melted candle wax. It displays good intensity, unfolding beautifully in the glass. The palate has a strident opening, with a slight bitter edge that lends this Yquem great tension. One can discern layers of marmalade infused with honey fruit, with a powerful, spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is drinking perfectly now, but will surely age ...Read More »

1995 Latour, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1995 Latour, Pauillac (96RP, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A beauty, the opaque dense purple-colored 1995 exhibits jammy cassis, vanillin, and minerals in its fragrant but still youthful aromatics. Medium to full-bodied, with exceptional purity, superb concentration, and a long, intense, ripe, 40-second finish, this is a magnificent example of Latour. As the wine sat in the glass, scents of roasted espresso and toasty new oak emerged. This classic will require considerable cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2050. (RP)" (06/2000)

1995 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this bottle of 1995 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (96RP, 95WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is fun to go back and forth between the 1995 and 1996, two superb vintages for Haut-Brion. The 1995 seems to have sweeter tannin and a bit more fat and seamlessness when compared to the more structured and muscular 1996. Certainly 1995 was a vintage that the brilliant administrator Jean Delmas handled flawlessly. The result is a deep ruby/purple-colored wine with a tight but promising nose of burning wood embers intermixed with vanilla, spice box, earth, mineral, sweet cherry, black currant, plum-like fruit, medium to full body, a high level of ripe but sweet tannin, and a finish that goes on for a good 40-45 seconds. 1995 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What sumptuous pleasures await those who purchase either the 1996 or 1995 Pichon Lalande. It is hard to choose a favorite, although the 1995 is a smoother, more immediately sexy and accessible wine. It is an exquisite example of Pichon-Lalande with the Merlot component giving the wine a coffee/chocolatey/cherry component to go along with the Cabernet Sauvignon's and Cabernet Franc's complex blackberry/cassis fruit. The wine possesses an opaque black/ruby/purple color, and sexy, flamboyant aromatics of pain grille, black fruits, and cedar. Exquisite o ...Read More »

1995 Troplong-Mondot, St-Émilion

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Totally shut down and enclosed, with an impressively saturated purple/black color and a promising but tightly strung nose of mineral, vanilla, espresso, black cherry and currant, this wine has beautiful purity, medium to full body, relatively high but sweet tannin, and a long 30-35 second finish. The wine is very firm but impressive as well as promising. Patience please! Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. 1995 Monbousquet, St-Emilion

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Although similar to the 1996, the 1995's fruit is more accessible, and while the tannin is elevated, it is buffered by lower acidity, as well as more glycerin and fat. The 1995 offers an opaque purple color, and a glorious nose of new oak, spice, and abundant black fruits. This full-bodied, super-extracted, multi-layered wine must be tasted to be believed - especially for readers who remember Monbousquet as the soft, innocuous, commercially-styled St.-Emilion it was for many decades. Wonderful texture. Classy and structured. Long. This was wine of the year in 1998; well deserved. (Web-2007)" 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine is of first-growth quality, not only from an intellectual perspective, but in its hedonistic characteristics. More open-knit and accessible than the extraordinary 1996, Ducru's 1995 exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, followed by a knock-out nose of blueberry and black raspberry/cas ...Read More »

High toned, almost charcoal nose but the promise of luscious fruit underneath. Rich and spicy on the palate. A satisfying claret with some sweetness and charm on the end but very much in the classic mould, finishing dry. 17/20 points.
