1995 Clos du Marquis, St-Julien

93 points Wine Spectator: "Wonderfully perfumed, with violets, flowers, fruit and cedar. Full-bodied, with loads of fruit and a powerful structure. Powerful and reserved. (Web Only—2007)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As I have indicated numerous times in this journal, the second wine of Las Cases, Clos du Marquis, is one of the finest second wines being made in Bordeaux. Over recent years, it has become a wine of classified growth quality. The 1996 may turn out to be even better than the outstanding 1995. Both are exceptional wines, with the 1996 slightly thicker and more viscous, with more noticeable new oak, ...Read More »

1995 Malescot-St-Exupery, Margaux

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine may merit an outstanding rating. It offers a classic Margaux combination of elegance and richness. Medium-bodied, with delicate, beautifully ripe, black currant and floral aromas that compete with subtle new oak, the 1995 Malescot hits the palate with a lovely concoction of fruit, nicely integrated tannin and acidity, and a stylish, graceful feel. This quintessentially elegant Bordeaux should continue to improve in the bottle. A beauty! (RP)" (2/1998) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Plenty of plum and floral aromas, with hints of red licorice. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine ...Read More »

1995 Gruaud-Larose, St-Julien

91 points Wine Spectator: "Intense aromas of crushed blackberries, licorice and Spanish cedar. Full-bodied, concentrated and structured. Give it some time. (Web-2007)" 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Ruby-red with a pale rim. Initially closed nose opens slowly with aeration to offer delicate blackcurrant and mineral aromas complicated by a touch of field herbs. Then richer and deeper on the palate, with flinty blackcurrant, raspberry and herbal flavors carrying nicely through the aftertaste. The chewy, peppery tannins have smoothed out nicely with age. This wine has already developed much more depth and comple ...Read More »

1995 Bellefont-Belcier, St. Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1995 is somewhat of a sleeper, exhibiting a dense color, and rich, jammy black fruits intermingled with scents of herb, licorice, and toast. Thick chewy flavors reveal fine extraction and glycerin. This is a soft, low acid, opulent wine for drinking during the first 7-8 years after its release." (1/1998)

1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac

95 points James Suckling: "This explodes on the nose with prunes, blackberries, mushrooms and fresh tobacco. Full body, ripe tannins and a juicy finish. Big and powerful. Still could do with a decade or more of aging." (10/2015) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 95ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is 'great stuff,' with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild." (02/1998)

1995 Palmer, Margaux

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is one of the best Palmers of the decade. The nose is generous with raspberry, strawberry and that touch of lemongrass noted on previous occasions. The palate is full-bodied and precocious, fleshy, lots of stuffing and rounded in texture. Good depth with a savoury second half, nice grippy tannins with a raspberry and cooked meats towards the finish. On this showing the wine could actually benefit from further bottle ageing, but this remains a 'solid' long-term Palmer. Impressive, but pleasure will come later. Drink 2010-2020+ Tasted March 2008. 1995 Rauzan-Ségla, Margaux

93 points Wine Spectator: "Very ripe, with an almost raisiny edge. Light vanilla flavor. Full-bodied, with lots of ripe fruit and a long, caressing, silky finish. Gorgeous wine. (Web Only-2007)" 91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby-red, even darker than the '96. Currant, raspberry, tobacco and cedary oak on the nose. Full and sweet in the middle palate, with strong, lively flavors. Here the toothcoating tannins seem slightly less well integrated today but they are ripe and even. Really creamy in the mouth, but with the structure to age." (6/1998) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine was consistently outstanding from cask, and I susp ...Read More »

Very tight, yet with air it comes around wonderfully. Give it time. This was always one of the buys of the vintage. (Web Only—2007)" Decanter: "Fine, intense, impeccable fruit and long, classy finish. Firm structure invites long keeping. (18/20 points)" (6/2008) Jancis Robinson: "Still some purple in the crimson. 92 points Wine Spectator: "Black licorice and currants on the nose. Very fragrant. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still needs time to come together. (Web-2007)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While not as backward as the 1996, the opaque purple-colored 1995 is a tannic, unevolved, dense, concentrated wine that will require 8-10 years of cellaring. The 1995 exhibits pain grille, blackcurrant, mineral, and subtle tobacco in its complex yet youthful aromatics. Powerful, dense, concentrated cassis and blueberry flavors might be marginally softer than in the 1996, but there is still plenty of grip ...Read More »

1995 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Leognan

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This vintage is aging at a glacial pace and the tannins are currently more significant than their counterbalancing components of fruit and glycerin. While the word “potential” seems to be the most positive descriptor for this vintage, there are some nagging doubts about whether all the tannins will melt away and the fruit will hold. As in most 1995s, the color remains a healthy dark plum/purple. One of the bigger wines of the vintage, the ripe, powerful Merlot component has buttressed the Cabernet elements, giving the wine plenty of body, tannin and La M ...Read More »

93 points James Suckling: "This is surprisingly delicate and fine now with currant and spice character and hints nuts. It is full body with refined texture and a beautiful finish." (1/2014) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A stylish, elegant, more restrained style of Pichon Baron, with less obvious new oak than usual, this deep ruby/purple-colored wine offers a pure black currant-scented nose with subtle aromas of coffee and smoky toasty oak. In the mouth, the wine displays less weight and muscle than the 1996, but it offers suave, elegant, rich fruit presented in a medium to full-bodied, surprisingly lush style. ...Read More »

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet-brick in color, the nose is well developed, displaying dried berry, leather, vanilla pod and anise notes with a faint whiff of potpourri. The palate is wonderfully fleshy and opulent with velvety, approachable tannins and a long finish. (LPB)" (11/2012) 94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby-red color. More expressive aromas of crystallized dark berries, dark chocolate and animal fur. Lush and sweet; thick but delineated. Wonderfully concentrated. 1995 Carruades de Lafite, Pauillac

Jancis Robinson: "Pretty impressive on the nose. Very intense ruby with hardly any evidence of browning. Rather light and even slightly simple on the palate. Slightly dry tannins insist on the end. A bit chunky. This sample was served perhaps slightly too warm to shine? Mineral finish." (2/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I have noticed in my tastings that the second wine of Lafite-Rothschild, Carruades de Lafite, has improved over recent years. The 1995 is a 40% Merlot/60% Cabernet Sauvignon blend. It exhibits more of the trademark characteristics of its bigger sibling. Elegant, with spicy new oak, ...Read More »

Rich, sweet and mouthfilling, with a softer structure than the '96. Enticing fruit is accessible already. Complicating notes of smoke, leather and tar. Builds slowly on the sweet finish, which features fine, dusty tannins. But can't quite match the '96 for grip." (5/1998) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of blackberry, tobacco and black licorice follow through to a full-bodied palate, with lots of ripe fruit and a chewy, slightly hot finish. According to the Wine Spectator: "Pretty aromas of blackberries, violets and spices. Medium- to full-bodied, with a lovely velvety-tannin structure and medium finish. Best from 2001 through 2008." (09/98) According to Robert Parker: "Elegant, complex, and evolved, the saturated dark ruby-colored 1995 exhibits herb-tinged, black currant/weedy cassis-like flavors that are supple, round, generous, and appealing. 1995 d'Yquem, Sauternes (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
1995 d'Yquem, Sauternes (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served from an ex-chateau bottle. The 1995 Chateau d’Yquem is moving into its secondary aroma phase. A deep golden color, it has a dense and almost Barsac-like bouquet with tangerine, apricot, acacia and melted candle wax. It displays good intensity, unfolding beautifully in the glass. The palate has a strident opening, with a slight bitter edge that lends this Yquem great tension. 1995 Clos Fourtet, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A very fine effort from Clos Fourtet, the 1995 exhibits a medium dark plum color, followed by sweet black cherry and kirsch fruit intertwined with minerals and toasty oak. Tightly wound on the palate, with medium body, excellent delineation and purity, and a spicy finish with plenty of grip, this example has closed down considerably since bottling, but it does possess excellent sweetness and depth. However, the tannin is more elevated, so this 1995 will require patience. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2018." (2/1998) Wine Spectator: "Aromas of chocolate, tobacco and berries. M ...Read More »
