1995 Potensac, Médoc

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Elegant, complex, and evolved, the saturated dark ruby-colored 1995 exhibits herb-tinged, black currant/weedy cassis-like flavors that are supple, round, generous, and appealing. (RP)" (2/1998) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Cooler aromas of dark berries and menthol. Sweet and textured in the mouth; already displaying plenty of personality. Flavors are more evolved than those of the '96, and also more accessible today. Finishes with substantial chewy tannins. (ST)" (5/1998) Wine Spectator: "Very aromatic, with cherry, currant and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, with fine tannins and a fresh, cl ...Read More »

1995 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac

93 points James Suckling: "This is surprisingly delicate and fine now with currant and spice character and hints nuts. It is full body with refined texture and a beautiful finish." (1/2016) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A stylish, elegant, more restrained style of Pichon Baron, with less obvious new oak than usual, this deep ruby/purple-colored wine offers a pure black currant-scented nose with subtle aromas of coffee and smoky toasty oak. In the mouth, the wine displays less weight and muscle than the 1996, but it offers suave, elegant, rich fruit presented in a medium to full-bodied, surprisingly lush style. ( ...Read More »

1995 Figeac, St-Émilion (Previously $230.00)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Best Figeac in years. Loads of blackberry, chocolate and stones. Full-bodied and concentrated with masses of tannins and fruit. Long, long finish. Needs time." (1/1998) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Château Figeac vertical at the property from one of the last remaining imperials, one could argue that the six-liter format would have benefit the 1995 Figeac. Even so, that should not take anything away from this, the best vintage of that decade. Firstly, one notices that it is deeper in color than the underwhelming 1996. Then you fall into the aromatics, a beguiling concocti ...Read More »

1995 d'Yquem, Sauternes

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served from an ex-chateau bottle. The 1995 Chateau d’Yquem is moving into its secondary aroma phase. A deep golden color, it has a dense and almost Barsac-like bouquet with tangerine, apricot, acacia and melted candle wax. It displays good intensity, unfolding beautifully in the glass. The palate has a strident opening, with a slight bitter edge that lends this Yquem great tension. One can discern layers of marmalade infused with honey fruit, with a powerful, spicy finish that lingers long in the mouth. This is drinking perfectly now, but will surely age ...Read More »

1995 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (1.5L)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Black licorice and currants on the nose. Very fragrant. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still needs time to come together.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2008. (JS, Web-2007)" 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While not as backward as the 1996, the opaque purple-colored 1995 is a tannic, unevolved, dense, concentrated wine that will require 8-10 years of cellaring. The 1995 exhibits pain grille, blackcurrant, mineral, and subtle tobacco in its complex yet youthful aromatics. Powerful, dense, concentrated cassis and blueberry flavors might be marginally soft ...Read More »

1995 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac Back In Stock!
1995 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

94 points Wine Spectator: "A wine that continues to improve with age. Shows loads of ripe plum, almost prune, with hints of vanilla and mineral. Full, chewy and tight. Still needs time.--Lynch-Bages non-blind vertical. Best after 2008. (JS, Web-2007)" Jancis Robinson: "Dark blackish ruby with a pale rim. High toned, almost charcoal nose but the promise of luscious fruit underneath. Rich and spicy on the palate. A satisfying claret with some sweetness and charm on the end but very much in the classic mould, finishing dry." (1/2015) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A dense ruby/purple hue is accompanied by reticent, restrained aromatics ...Read More »

1995 Bordeaux Tasting Lot
Bid on this 3-bottle 1995 Bordeaux Tasting Lot, including 1-bottle of 1995 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (95RP, 94WS, 92ST), 1-bottle of 1995 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac (95RP, 93WS, 91ST), and 1-bottle of 1995 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien ((92-94RP), 94WS, 91ST). Of the 1995 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "A wine of extraordinary intensity and accessibility, the 1995 Cos d'Estournel is a sexier, more hedonistic offering than the muscular, backward 1996. Opulent, with forward aromatics (gobs of black fruits intermixed with toasty pain grille scents and a boatload of spice), this terrific Cos possesses remarkable intensity, full body, and layers of jammy fruit nicely framed by the wine's new oak. Because of low acidity and sweet tannin, the 1995 will be difficult to resist young, although it will age for 2-3 decades. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2025. (RP)" (02/1998)

1995 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien Back In Stock!
1995 Léoville-Barton, St-Julien

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted wonderful in October 2000. A meaty rich ripe nose of cassis, mulberry and cherry. Full-bodied and expansive structure. Approachable with layers of strawberries and red fruits. A rich voluptuous Barton that should be ready in 2-3 yrs. Then blind in April 2005. A very attractive nose with a slight under-ripeness that lends it freshness and vitality. The palate is well-balanced with toasty new oak. But quite backward compared to others with a dense sweet, chocolate tinged finish. Quite modern in style on the surface, but you can tell that there is a ...Read More »

1995 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (1.5L)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "What sumptuous pleasures await those who purchase either the 1996 or 1995 Pichon Lalande. It is hard to choose a favorite, although the 1995 is a smoother, more immediately sexy and accessible wine. It is an exquisite example of Pichon-Lalande with the Merlot component giving the wine a coffee/chocolatey/cherry component to go along with the Cabernet Sauvignon's and Cabernet Franc's complex blackberry/cassis fruit. The wine possesses an opaque black/ruby/purple color, and sexy, flamboyant aromatics of pain grille, black fruits, and cedar. Exquisite o ...Read More »

1995 Vieux-Château-Certan, Pomerol

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This bottle is not quite in the same league as ones tasted two or three years ago, but the ’95 remains one of Alexandre’s standout wines of that decade. Here, it has a haunting bouquet whereby the Cabernet Franc component is more conspicuous than before, essentially with more Pomerol character developing. There are touches of blackberry, mint and cassis with a meaty element developing in the glass. The palate has plenty of sweet red cherry and boysenberry on the entry, the oak now completely absorbed and with a slightly unruly, almost Rioja-like finish! ...Read More »

1995 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien (1.5L)

95 points Wine Spectator: "Subtle yet aromatic character of Indian spices, currants and dried cherries. Full-bodied, with super well-integrated tannins and a long, caressing finish. Wonderful texture. Classy and structured. Long. This was wine of the year in 1998; well deserved. (Web-2007)" 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine is of first-growth quality, not only from an intellectual perspective, but in its hedonistic characteristics. More open-knit and accessible than the extraordinary 1996, Ducru's 1995 exhibits a saturated ruby/purple color, followed by a knock-out nose of blueberry and black raspberry/cas ...Read More »

This was always one of the buys of the vintage.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. (JS, Web-2007)"

1995 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (signs of past seepage)

96 points Wine Spectator: "Intense aromas of blackberries, black licorice and currants, with mineral undertones. Full-bodied, with a solid core of tannins and a long, silky finish. Still holding back, but is concentrated and powerful. The 1996 is always talked about, but I think this is superior and will be in the future.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective. Best after 2010. (Web-2007)" 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1995 Lafite-Rothschild (only one-third of the harvest made it into the final blend) is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, and 8% Cabernet Franc. The wine was showing spectacularly well wh ...Read More »
