2016 Roquefort Blanc, Bordeaux Top Pick!
2016 Roquefort Blanc, Bordeaux

The wine just shines! Sauvignon Blanc (the base of the wine is zippy and herbaceous and has brisk acidity), Semillon (for body and structure), and Muscadelle. This wine is crisp and super focused on the palate. Minerals and earth with lemons and limes. According to Robert Parker: "Thanks to the talented oenological team of Denis Dubourdieu and his assistant, Christophe Olivier, Roquefort is generally one of the most interesting generic white Bordeaux."

Another of the fine wines of Dominique Robin, Le Blanc de la Graside is sourced from a vineyard three miles south of Libourne that is planted with 60-year-old Sauvignon Blanc vines. 2014 de France Blanc, Pessac-Léognan

92 points James Suckling: "Lots of dried-apple and dried-pineapple character with hints of flan. Full body, plenty of fruit and a creamy-textured finish. Drink now." (2/2017) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Château de France Blanc has a fresh lime and dewy green apple nose that is nicely defined. The palate is fresh and crisp, almost Burgundy-like on the mid-palate with fine tension all the way through to the finish. You know, this might very well be the best Château de France Blanc that I have tasted. Excellent. 2014 Smith-Haut-Lafitte Blanc, Pessac-Léognan

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dense and beautifully ripe, this is a rounded rich wine. It focuses on the tropical yellow-fruit spectrum. That gives a full wine with wood-spice hints and just the right amount of citrus acidity to give it a lift. Drink this finely structured wine from 2023. (RV)" (4/2017) 96 points James Suckling: "Clear and vivid with sliced lemons and green apples on the nose. Flows through to a medium to full body, tangy acidity and a long and delicious finish. Give this super white at least two or three years to come together in the bottle." (2/2017) 94 points Vinous: "The 2014 Smith Haut Lafitte Blanc is nearly s ...Read More »

(3/2016) 93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 La Tour Martillac has a gorgeous, complex nose, subtle pear and green apple scents, a whiff of the old sea spray coming in from the Atlantic. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, very complex in the mouth with lip-smacking salinity towards the finish. 2014 Tour de Mirambeau "Cuvee Passion" Bordeaux Blanc

A clean yet deceptively rich white Bordeaux from one of Bordeaux's smaller Naujan-et-Postiac properties called Tour de Mirambeau. Run by Thibault Despagne and created in the style of a classic Graves Blanc, the wine is imported by our friend Charles Neal and sees very little distribution outside of France. A true under-the-radar secret for those who enjoy the sauvignon blanc wines of Bordeaux.

2009 Pape-Clément Blanc, Pessac-Léognan (375ml)

It is so dense yet agile with amazing tension and a bright finish. It builds and builds in the finish. Superb. Speechless. Drink or hold." (8/2012) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Pape Clement Blanc is an absolutely remarkable wine, which is not a surprise given what this historic estate has done in both white and red over the last 20 years. (2/2016) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This has a gorgeous feel, with opulent fruit offset by racy herb notes and acidity, showing lemon sherbet, shortbread and white peach flavors backed by a salted butter and tarragon-laced finish, with hints of talc and fennel skitter in the background. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As disappointing as the 1989, both in the context of the vintage and the increasing quality of the wines now emerging from Rayne-Vigneau, the 1988 is the best example I have tasted from this property. An intense, honeyed, pear, flower, and apricot fragrance is reminiscent of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. In the mouth, there is exceptional richness, super focus because of fine acidity, a wonderful touch of toasty new oak, and an elegant, very positive, crisp finish. 1985 Haut-Brion Blanc, Pessac-Léognan (soiled label, 3cm fill) (Previously $750)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Château Haut Brion Blanc is candidate for the best dry white Bordeaux produced that decade - period. Having tasted this nectar two or three times in recent months, I can vouch for its extraordinary intensity on the nose: candied orange peel, citrus lemon, cold wet limestone and honeysuckle notes that shimmer in the glass. It almost has a Chablis-like penetration—imagine if Raveneau made white Bordeaux. The palate is perfectly balanced and after 30 years, it as fresh as a daisy, citrus fresh, with a killer line of mineralité, squeezed lime and an ...Read More »

2016 Pape Clément Blanc, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival)

93-96 points Vinous: "The 2016 Pape Clément exudes class and is one of the raciest, silkiest wines I have ever tasted here. The purity and intensity of the flavors is striking. Dark cherry, chocolate, spice and leather open up first. The full range of aromatics has not developed yet - that will come with time. Today, it is the wine's balance that is most remarkable. (AG)" (4/2017) 94-95 points James Suckling: "A solid and four-square white with lemon-rind and dried-apple character. Pears, too. Full and dense with layers of fruit and phenolic character. Red wine texture in a white. One for aging." (4/2017) 93-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Thi ...Read More »

2016 Malartic-Lagravière Blanc, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival)

94-96 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is intense and concentrated, ripe in generous tropical and citrus fruits. There is plenty of lemon as well as grapefruit in the tight, mineral texture. It is likely to age well, and should be best from 2020. (RV)" (4/2017) 93-94 points James Suckling: "A dense and layered white with lots of cooked-pear and apple character. Full and intense. Lots going on here. Wait and see." (4/2017) 90-93 points Vinous: "Malartic Lagravière's 2016 Blanc is one of the most distinctive whites of the vintage. Creamy, vivid and layered, it exudes personality from start to finish. Slate, crushed rocks, white orchard fru ...Read More »

2014 La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, Pessac-Léognan

99 points James Suckling: "So much lemon, pineapple and green-papaya aromas here. Stones and salt block, too. Full-bodied, dense and layered with a creamy and layered mouthfeel. Powerful and agile at the same time. Exceptional. Rivals the 100-point 2011 La Mission. Drink if you can find it!" (2/2017) 97 points Wine Enthusiast: "With 83% Sémillon in the blend, this wine has weight as well as richness. At the same time, it has a crisp edge, a smoky character from wood aging and the fine balance between citrus and more exotic fruits. It is a wine to age for many years. *Cellar Selection* (RV)" (4/2017) 95 points Vinous: "The 2014 La ...Read More »
