2014 Dry white Bordeaux wines are fantastic and with the strong dollar this wine is a no-brainer. We tasted it on our last night in Bordeaux in April 2015. From Bill Blatch's old company Vintex, this wine has good richness and flavor with that great 2014 acidity.

2014 Grand Bateau Blanc, Bordeaux

This blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon is a stellar value from Bordeaux. Grapes are hand-harvested and the juice undergoes a cold soak before 75% of it is barrel fermented and the other 25% is fermented in stainless steel. Crisp and mineral with vanilla tones on the nose, the palate is nicely rounded and full with citrus and tropical fruit. It is delicious with lighter foods and also quite refreshing on its own.

The dry white wine of d'Yquem. The chateau produces this wine in certain years when conditions permit. "Y" comes from the same exceptional terroir and vines as Yquem's famous sweet wines. It benefits from identical strict vinegrowing methods, but is harvested and produced differently. "Y" is produced when the deliberate decision is made to pick certain plots of Sauvignon Blanc grapes at the beginning of the vintage and overripe Semillon grapes later on. This accounts for the small quantities and irregular production.

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1980-1981 d'Yquem, Sauternes Vertical, including 1-bottle of 1980 d'Yquem, Sauternes (93RP) and 1-bottle of 1981 d'Yquem, Sauternes (90RP). Of the 1980 d'Yquem, Sauternes,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "This year is a perfect example of a vintage that was much better for the sweet wines of Barsac and Sauternes than it was for the red wines. Yquem produced its greatest wine since the twin titans of 1975 and 1976. Medium golden, with a big, opulent, honeyed, oaky, flowery, tropical fruit bouquet, this wine is rich and concentrated, has very good acidity, a lot of botrytis, and a stunning finish.
