94-95 points James Suckling: "This really is fantastic with so much ripe fruit and ripe tannins. Exquisite purity and beauty. 55% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 7% Petit Verdot." (4/2016) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Siran is a blend of 55% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7% Petit Verdot picked between 17 September to 12 October. It is raised in 25% new oak plus one-year barrels. It is a little richer and more opulent than its neighbor, the 2015 Dauzac, due to the higher proportion of Merlot. It veers to more red fruit here, wild strawberry and later cassis. The palate is smooth and sensual on the ...Read More »

You need look no further than Graves for a screamingly good example of ready-to-drink, Merlot-based red. Tobacco, oak and black currant aromas exude from this value-driven Bordeaux, which drinks like a bottle three times the price.
Château Bois-Malot is located in Saint Loubes and situated on the shoreline of the Dordogne River. The soils are clay and light limestone with a subsoil of red pebbles and clay. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 20% Cabernet Franc. It is aged for eighteen months in large vats and then an additional six months in oak. Won Best Of Class, Gold Medal, in the Los Angeles Wine & Spirits Competition, 2013.
94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This large estate of 131 acres has been run brilliantly by a Belgian family, the Bonnies since their acquisition a number of years ago. The quality of the white and red have soared to exceptional heights, and this is certainly still one of the more realistically priced wines of Pessac-Lèognan and classified crus. The 2012 is a beauty, with a dense ruby/purple color, a fabulously plush, opulent texture and medium to full-bodied flavors of cassis, spicy earth and blueberry. Quite rich, yet light on its feet, this is an absolutely textbook Pessac-Lèognan, w ...Read More »
90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is made from property owned by the Bernard family of Domaine de Chevalier in Pessac-Léognan. It's a finely-made wine with great acidity and swathes of blackberry fruits. Well balanced and likely to age. (RV)" (4/2013) Wine Spectator: "Light loam and charcoal shadings line a core of plum skin and macerated blackberry fruit. A loamy edge lends a slightly chewy twinge to the finish. This has put on a bit of weight since the barrel tasting. (JM, Web-2015)"
Wine Spectator: "Not as big as I remember, but delicious. An aromatic '89 of rose petal, berry character. Medium-bodied, with medium-chewy tannins and a medium finish. (JS)" (5/1999)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This Haut-Medoc sleeper of the vintage from Bordeaux visionary Bernard Magrez possesses copious quantities of black currant and cherry fruit as well as supple tannins presented in a medium-bodied, opulent style... (RP)" (6/2007) Wine Enthusiast: "Now mature, this is a powerful wine for the vintage. It has a spice note, plus tannins that are still present and likely to develop further. The flavors of truffle, gamy beef and beet are are testaments to the age of this wine." (2/2013)
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Cigar and tobacco smoke on the nose. Violet and floral on palate with good balance. Firm rugged tannins and a moderate length. (RP)" (4/2000)
Jancis Robinson: "*Good Value* Light nose. Racy and transparent and early maturing but clean and focused. Very Cabernet. Not fleshy." (9/2011) James Suckling: "Soft and drinkable now with plums and berries. Full body, velvety tannins and a delicious finish." (7/2014) Wine Spectator: "A smoldering tobacco leaf edge runs from start to finish, lending a nice foil to the core of mulled plum and blackberry fruit. Shows a flash of pepper on the finish. (JM)" (5/2012) K&L Notes: A property very close to Pauillac that is one to watch in the future. Well-made, value-driven wines with good depth and length.
91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A blend 72% Cabernet Sauvignon and 28% Merlot raised in 50% new oak and 50% one-year old barrels. The Capbern-Gasqueton 2009 has a very precise bouquet with ample red fruits: wild strawberry and raspberry with subtle earth and liquorice notes underneath and beginning to rise to the surface with each swirl of the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with good fruit concentration, slightly chalky tannins at this stage, good tension and mineralite coming through towards the finish with blacker fruits, one again with a hint of liquorice. Nice length and persis ...Read More »
90 points James Suckling: "Soft and pretty now with currants, mineral and stone character. Medium to full body, rough tannins." (10/2015) K&L Notes: This second wine of Château Cantemerle is primarily sourced from younger vine parcels from the esteemed estate. The wine has a similar profile to the Grand Vin, but is ready to drink within several years of harvest. That's now! A quick decant reveals generous fruit and and good terroir that is always welcome for under $20. The blend is 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. 91 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Still young, with its dry tannins, this is a wine that has developed depth and concentration over the last 3-4 years. It has power, the berry fruits driving through the structure to give a layered, attractive, serious finish. (RV)" (6/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep ruby/plum/purple, with more sweetness to its fruit than normal, the 2005 Fourcas Hosten displays minerality, earth, spice, blackcurrants, and touches of oak and forest notes. 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Château d’Issan, builds on the richness of the second wine and adds more body, structure and density. It has an inky purple color and a stunning nose of spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry fruit as well as touches of incense and graphite. Medium to full-bodied and stunningly concentrated, this 2012 is a great success in the vintage, one of the superstars. Moreover, its precociousness suggests it could be drunk in the next 4-5 years or cellared through 2025. I underrated this wine dramatically in my report of April, 2013 (Issue 206). 95-96 points James Suckling: "Wow. Real Cantemerle with stupendous power and depth. Mineral, stone and violet character. Full and structure. It starts slowly and then goes on for minutes. It is the fruit that sings here, gently supported by the fine, dusty tannins. (RV)" (4/2016) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Cantemerle is a blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot. (6/2007) Decanter: "Very ripe, modern style. Pronounced colour. Creamy, cassis cordiale and spice fragrance. Rich, chunky fruit with a firm tannic structure." (4/2005) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Red-ruby. Sexy, rather wild aromas of roasted raspberry and game. Supple but firm-edged, with good grip to the raspberry and mineral flavors. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are 100,000 bottles of this beautiful sleeper of the vintage, which offers terrific value. The proprietor is the son of Bernard Magrez, who has crafted a blend of 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Cabernet Franc. Fruity and Bordeaux-like, with notes of tobacco leaf, blueberries, black raspberries and incense, this explosively fruity, delicious, complex wine is relatively easy to consume yet should continue to drink well for 7-8 years, if not longer. Château Haut-Bailly can trace its origins back to the 16th century, but it’s been managed by a member of the Sanders family since the Belgian merchant Daniel Sanders bought the property in 1955 and began to restore the quality and reputation of the wine. Today it’s managed by his granddaughter Veronique Sanders who has put together an outstanding cuvee under the property's third label: the Pessac-Léognan de Haut Bailly. While 2014 was a difficult vintage, this wine is a shining star; especially considering the price and the quality of the vineyards invol... Read More »
