2006 Cantemerle, Haut-Médoc

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Cantemerle was the "surprise package" of the blind tasting at Farr Vintners' horizontal. It has a conservative nose with rosemary and undergrowth scents that open nicely in the glass, but retain a sense of classicism. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, lightly spiced red berry fruit, sage and white pepper, quite persistent on the finish, which feels very pure. What an outstanding 2006 Claret - a Cantemerle that punches well above its weight. Tasted April 2016. (NM)" (5/2016) 91 points James Suckling: "Very attractive with complex aromas and flavors of berry, mu ...Read More »

2006 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2006 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (94RP, 94ST, 93JS, 93WS, 92WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at Bordeaux Index's annual 10-Year On tasting in London. The 2006 Château Pontet-Canet has an extremely pure, vivacious, perfumed bouquet with crushed violets infusing the blueberry and blackberry fruit. But it is all about the detail and precision in this wine. The palate is medium-bodied with a gentle grip in the mouth: lightly toasted black fruit, dried orange peel, cedar and a pinch of white pepper. This feels very cohesive and poised with just a touch of mint entering right on the finish. What a great wine from Alfred Tesseron and Jean-Michel Comme. (NM)" (05/2016)

2006 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien

93 points Wine & Spirits: "Poyferré produced a shimmering, polished Cabernet in 2006, supple and more harmonious than many in the Médoc. Rich new oak lends the wine opulence and darkens the graphite mineral character of the tannins with an espresso-roast blackness. The fruit has dimension, balanced between plump blueberry and a more restrained vegetal note. Satisfying and delicious as a young wine, this should age with grace." (12/2009) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "Beautifully dense, this generous, rich wine combines great fruit with a firm but sweet structure. The new wood element is still prominent, but this ...Read More »

2006 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the property, the 2006 Château Pichon-Lalande has a voluminous bouquet with outgoing blackberry, cassis and violets scents, a touch of boysenberry jam tucked just underneath, although it does not quite have the delineation of the Lynch Bages. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This feels very composed in the mouth, quite fresh with well-judged acidity, harmonious and tensile on the finish. This deserves a higher score than I awarded out of barrel and it continues to improve year by year. (NM)" (5/2016) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "The success of this wine owes as ...Read More »

2006 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "At the time it was shown as a barrel sample in early 2007, this was the best wine of 2006. That accolade remains. It has all the power of the Cabernet Sauvignon in Pauillac, which was the greatest success of the vintage. That power comes from the dense tannins as well as the black plum and spice flavors and minerality. The texture becomes velvet, giving a final richness, but never losing its long aging potential. In a year that is good, but not at the top, Mouton has made a great wine. *Top 100 of 2009, Cellar Selection* (RV)" (3/2009) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Mouton ...Read More »

2006 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac

94 points Decanter: "Slowly and confidently inching towards its drinking window, but needs another three to five years before it gets there. Deep plush fruit with tight liquorice root and menthol edging against rich blackberry coulis. Beautiful subtle tension and complexity on display. Really a huge amount that uncurls slowly in the glass. Very seductive. (JA)" (6/2016) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Year after year, Lynch-Bages is able to produce sumptuous wines, typically rich, powerful and structured. 2006 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien

95 points James Suckling: "Subtle aromas of currants, blueberries and minerals. Full body with super-integrated tannins and a fine, fine finish. I love the texture to this wine, and it’s just starting to show you the true quality it has. Start drinking. One of the top wines of this vintage. Better in 2016." (7/2013) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Very perfumed and beautiful, showing blackberry and raspberry aromas, with hints of vanilla. Deep and complex. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long, powerful finish. 2006 Ormes de Pez, St-Estèphe

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Under the same ownership as Lynch-Bages, Les Ormes de Pez offers a family likeness in the richness of this wine. At the same time, dry tannins are very much up front-'firm' is the word to describe this wine, which needs 2-3 years to open up." (3/2009) Jancis Robinson: "Aromatic. Medium intensity. Gentle, mild, well balanced with acid more noticeable than the fine tannins. This should eventually become something pretty charming, I think. 17/20 points. Drink 2015-2025." 2006 La Mission Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan

This is a wine that rolls sumptuously around the mouth, the tannins certainly dense but full of the same sweetness as the fruit. The final flavor is perfumed and fresh. Deceptively attractive, it will profit from many years’ aging. (RV)" (3/2009) 95 points Wine Spectator: "Almost jammy, with vanilla bean and coffee undertones. 2006 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (1.5L)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Pichon Lalande, which blows away the 2005, represents a return to the velvety-textured, rich, sexy style most readers would associate with Pichon Lalande. This blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon and 36% Merlot no Petit Verdot was included in the final blend exhibits a dense purple color as well as abundant aromas of chocolate, coffee, cedar, black currants, and a subtle touch of smoke, a rich, savory, full-bodied mouthfeel, plump, fleshy fruit, and a superb finish. Best after 2013." (03/09) 90 points Robert Parker: "As usual, the second wine, the 2006 Clos du Marquis, exhibits a character similar to the grand vin, but it is a more fruit-forward effort with sweeter tannins, and a more precocious, evolved personality. 2006 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Cos d'Estournel has softened those austere Saint-Estèphe tannins and produced a wine that is all opulence and roundness. The tannins are certainly there, but they come through as big, bold richness. The power suggests it will age well, but for drinking earlier, the freshness of the sweet homemade plum jam promises well. (RV)" (3/2009) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep ruby-red. Expressive aromas of dark raspberry, smoked meat, black olive, iron, smoke and tobacco. 2006 Kirwan, Margaux

90 points Wine Spectator: "There's lovely fruit in this wine, with berry, chocolate and plum aromas and flavors. Medium- to full-bodied, with silky tannins and a long finish. A very balanced Kirwan. Best from 2011 through 2016." (03/09) K&L's notes - 65% cabernet sauvignon, 35% merlot. Quite dark with sweet palate entry. Some meaty notes. Flashy style. * Ralph Sands: Super sweet fruit upfront. Nothing is overstated; this is for lovers of stylish wines." (3/2009) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A very strong effort from Lagrange in 2006, this estate’s tendency for including a nearly overwhelming oak component in its wines has been tamed in this cuvee, resulting in a better-balanced, potentially complex offering. A deep opaque purple color is followed by aromas of espresso roast, subtle pain grille, black currants, and cigar box. Full-bodied and surpri ...Read More »

2006 Duhart-Milon, Pauillac

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The character of this wine, a straight line of tannins and black currant fruit flavors, is the model of a classic Pauillac. It has all the structure as well as some austerity and severity at this stage in its development. But the fruit texture is rich enough, dried fruits and spice followed by licorice and bitter chocolate. Age for five years at least. *Cellar Selection*" (3/2009) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is no longer an insider’s secret that the investments made by the Rothschild family (of Lafite) in Duhart Milon are paying big dividends. 2006 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at Bordeaux Index's tasting and at the château, the 2006 Calon Segur was current winemaker Vincent Millet's first vintage. In many ways, you can see it as one of the last of the "old style" Calon Segur wines with a higher percentage of Merlot than nowadays (the 2006 consists of 33% Merlot), while I aver that the tannins are not as fine as they are nowadays. The Merlot component is vividly expressed on the nose with ravishing ripe red cherries, kirsch and strawberry, just slightly smudged by the alcohol. 2006 Climens, Barsac

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Sauternes 2006 ten-year on horizontal in Bordeaux. The 2006 Climens still feels youthful on the nose, a car revving its engine but yet to release the handbrake. The palate is medium-bodied with harmonious, honeyed marmalade and quince-tinged fruit, plenty of botrytis and perhaps here, a little more advanced than the aromatics. They will catch up in time to complete the gorgeous, quite ravishing yet tensile Climens from Bérénice Lurton and her team. 2006 Beychevelle, St-Julien

90 points Robert Parker: "A property that seems to be awakening, this St.-Julien leans toward more of a Margaux style. The attractive earthy, floral, red currant, and raspberry notes are impressively intense and complex in the aromatics. This dark ruby/purple-tinged wine displays elegance, finesse, and a beautiful mouthfeel in a restrained, moderately intense, but still classic style with sweet tannins. 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Planted in pure limestone above Gerard Perse’s other famous vineyard/terroir, Chateau Pavie, this 10-acre site’s vines average 47 years of age. Fashioned from remarkably low yields, this blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc is a powerful, dense, tannic wine that will require considerable time to round into shape. The 2006 Château Smith Haut-Lafitte has an intriguing bouquet with surprising mineral intensity coming through the pure blackberry and cassis fruit. The oak here is beautifully assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a keen line of acidity, quite structured in the mouth, but that mineralité continues right to the finish that attenuates ever such a little.
