2010 Franc Mayne, St-Emilion Top Pick!
2010 Franc Mayne, St-Emilion

94 points James Suckling: "Fabulous aromas of crushed blueberries and minerals with flowers follow through to a full body, with solid fruit and tannin structure and a long, long finish. Very intense. Better than 2009. Try in 2017." (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This delivers the profile of the vintage, with spice-infused raspberry, boysenberry and blackberry fruit coursing along nicely, followed by delineated anise and spice notes, all carried by a racy graphite spine. Rock-solid and nicely balanced, this should age elegantly. Best from 2014 through 2024. (Web-2013)" Jancis Robinson: "Rather sweet and sumptuous on the nos ...Read More »

(7/2009) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Sweet cherry, dusty, loamy soil, and forest floor-like characteristics make an appearance in this medium-bodied, elegant, pretty, but somewhat superficial 2004. From Hong Kong’s Kwok family who also own Haut-Brisson in St. Emilion. This is the first year they made. Located next door to Barde-Haut. Better in 2017. Exciting new wine." (2/2015)90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An attractive wine from another member of the Chinese Kwok family, the 2012 Tour Saint Christophe has a dense ruby/purple color, appealing cassis and blackcurrant fruit, medium body, foresty floral notes, wood and spice. (RH)" (6/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This appears to be an attractive, elegant, strong effort from Tertre-Daugay. The wine shows deep, sweet, herb-tinged black cherry and currant fruit intermixed with some spice box and fruitcake. It is elegant, medium-bodied, sweet..." This has good vivacity and should unwind nicely in the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2030. The complex aromatics are followed by a medium to full-bodied St.-Emilion with beautiful density and purity as well as a touch of toasty oak. Paper-fine tannins and finishes fresh. (JH)" (4/2012) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Chateau Puy Blanquet has a ripe cassis and blueberry scented nose that is very primal and quite precocious for the vintage. (2/2013)92 points Wine Spectator: "This has a really nice graphite frame that drives the core of fig, plum and boysenberry fruit authoritatively, with dense ganache, espresso and tar on the finish. 2010 Divon, St-Georges St-Emilion

We loved this wine on our April 2012 Bordeaux trip. A 2010 with lots of sweetness and forward fruit. Blackberries abound here. Great value. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Co-Owner and Bordeaux Buyer) It comes from the miniscule St-Georges St-Emilion Appellation, which is located within the boundaries of Montagne-St-Emilion. The vineyards of Château Divon have a specially privileged terroir. They face straight south. Always a plus in this uncertain maritime climate!

(11/2009) Wine & Spirits: "The aroma is complex and layered with rich cherries and smoky oak tones. This is a smooth-textured, traditional St-Emilion. A bit of bottling sulfur will dissipate as the wine ages, and the tannins will soften up for a steak." Veins of cool, saline-infused minerals give the wine its energy and length. At its essence, the 2014 is a deceptively mid-weight, refined St.-Emilion built on weightless energy, tension and class. 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a less than noble terroir in Saint-Sulpice de Faleyrens, Gerard Perse has accomplished miraculous things at Monbousquet. Prior to his acquisition of this property in the mid-nineties, this wine tasted like watered-down Beaujolais, but Perse has turned it into one of the more stunning, modern-styled wines of Bordeaux. A blend of approximately two-thirds Merlot, one-third Cabernet Franc and 8-10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005 exhibits plenty of toasty oak, roasted herb, meat juice, blackberry, cherry, and spice characteristics along with a touch of inc ...Read More »

2000 Pavie, St-Emilion

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine remains, for me, one of the compelling success stories for proprietor Gerard Perse. An extraordinary effort made from a blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the limestone soils that dominate this very distinctive terroir, the 2000 Pavie has moved out of the closed, dormant, broodingly backward stage into an adolescent period where one can see its extraordinary vibrancy, and great complexity as well as potential. It boasts an unctuous display of rich, cedar box-infused cassis fruit and liquid minerality. The t ...Read More »

2005 Soleil, Puissieguin St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Soleil's 2005 displays a gaudy bouquet of black currant fruit and roasted Provencal herbs, a fat, fleshy texture, decent acidity, and sweet tannin. Consume it over the next 5-6 years. (RP)" (8/2008) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright, deep red. Wild aromas of black raspberry, mocha and truffle. Lush and sweet if a bit simple, with flavors of sweet raspberry, mocha and truffle. Finishes with plenty of tannic spine, but the tannins arrive late." (6/2008) Wine Spectator: "Offers gorgeous plum and blackberry character, with hints of flowers. Full-bodied, with supersilky tannins and a long, caressing finish ...Read More »

1995 Troplong-Mondot, St-Emilion (Previously $150)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Totally shut down and enclosed, with an impressively saturated purple/black color and a promising but tightly strung nose of mineral, vanilla, espresso, black cherry and currant, this wine has beautiful purity, medium to full body, relatively high but sweet tannin, and a long 30-35 second finish. The wine is very firm but impressive as well as promising. Patience please! Anticipated maturity: 2007-2020. Last tasted, 11/02. (RP, Bordeaux Book, 4th Edition)" (1/2003)91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Very good saturated ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of black cherry, chocolate and licorice; more ...Read More »

2014 Barde-Haut, St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival)

91-94 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2014 Barde-Haut boasts superb richness and overall intensity. Dark spices, crème de cassis, new leather, mint and licorice meld together in a dark, sumptuous St.-Emilion built on pure depth and resonance. Suave, polished tannins convey an overall impression of creaminess. This clay-rich terroir delivers considerable breath. This is a terrific showing from proprietor Hélène Garcin and consulting winemaker Alain Raynaud. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc." (4/2015) 92-93 points James Suckling: "This is very dense and intense with lots of extracted fruit that gives a lico ...Read More »

1983 Canon, St-Emilion

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The wine's dark garnet/ruby color reveals some rust/amber at the edge. The nose is forthcoming, with scents of leather, earth, spice, sweet plums and fruitcake. In the mouth, the wine possesses good richness, heady, alcoholic clout, low acidity, and rustic tannin in the finish. (RP)" (1/1998)

2005 La Confession, St-Emilion

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Opaque purple, with a sweet blue and blackberry perfume intertwined with licorice and graphite, the 2005 La Confession exhibits massive concentration and extraction, but this full-bodied wine pulls back from being over-the-top because of intrinsic freshness and admirable purity. It is a brilliant effort from the young Janouiex, but it needs some cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2028" (4/2008) Wine Spectator: "Very floral and fruity, with hints of blackberry and flowers. Medium- to full-bodied, with firm tannins and a good density of fruit. Long and racy. A little rese ...Read More »

2000 Pavie Decesse, St-Emilion

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Gerard Perse's 2000 Pavie Decesse, a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc from a vineyard situated above Pavie, on the steep limestone hillsides outside the walled town of St.-Emilion, is a fabulous effort (all the Perse wines are stunning in this vintage). Notes of camphor, creme de cassis, violets, black currants, cedar, and licorice jump from the glass of this inky/purple-hued offering. Monumental richness, sensational sweet tannin, a skyscraper-like mid-palate, and a 45+-second finish result in an extraordinary wine that is just reaching its pl ...Read More »

2000 Clos de L'Oratoire, St-Emilion (3L)

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Ripe, well-made, and slightly over-rated in my report written seven years ago, this 2000 exhibits lots of black currants, cherries, smoked herbs, and spice in a full-bodied, round, generous, fully mature style. (RP)" (6/2010)92 points Wine Spectator: "Subtle, yet rich. Refined, yet powerful. Full-bodied, with super silky tannins, yet it's elegant and caressing. Joy to taste. Fantastic l'Oratoire. From the same people who bring you La Mondotte and Canon-La Gaffelière. Best after 2010." (3/2003)90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium ruby. Roasted red and black fruits and a meaty nuance on the nose. Sweet, fat and ve ...Read More »

2010 Corbin, St-Emilion

93 points James Suckling: "Nose starts with fresh brewed coffee, cedar and chocolate toffee. With a bit of air it shows ripe plum, sweet licorice and fresh leather. Wonderful dark round fruit on the palate with velvety caressing tannins. Full with a long finish with lots of dark fruit. Succulent wine." (2/2013)92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Lush, concentrated black currant and kirsch-like fruit, a hint of licorice and some floral notes and subtle background oak jump from the glass of this blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc. It is another relatively large-scaled St.-Emilion at 15% natural alcohol, but the ...Read More »

2005 de Fonbel, St-Emilion

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sleeper of the vintage, Ausone’s proprietor, Alain Vauthier, produces this beautiful St.-Emilion. It possesses a sumptuous bouquet of crushed rocks, incense, raspberries, boysenberries, and a touch of cherries. Some earthiness intrudes on the palate, but it adds complexity and nuance rather than detracting from the wine’s beautiful fruit. Medium to full-bodied, with admirable elegance and purity as well as ripe tannin, this beauty can be enjoyed over the next 15+ years." (4/2008) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep red. A red berry fruit bomb on the nose and palate, with a compli ...Read More »
