2013 Haut-Bergey Blanc, Pessac-Léognan

90-93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale straw-yellow. Grapefruit, guava and minerals on the pretty nose. In the mouth, bright gooseberry, citrus and melon flavors are complicated by notes of gin and tequila. Finishes with sneaky concentration and noteworthy savory complexity." (6/2014)91 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine is soft and rounded, while also suggesting potential richness. The fruits come through slowly, supported by a strong mineral character. It needs time." 2014 Smith Haut Lafitte Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival)

93-96 points Antonio Galloni: "The 2014 Smith Haut Lafitte is quite supple and textured in the glass, with lovely understated richness and impeccable overall balance. The least expressive of the 2014s I tasted at the estate, the Grand Vin is all finesse. Silky tannins and distinctly red-hued fruit are two of the signatures in an exceptionally polished wine endowed with fabulous overall balance. Sweet floral and mint notes add striking aromatic lift. Quite simply, although the 2014 is magnificent, it is also far from obvious in style. This is about as refined a 2014 as I came across du ...Read More »

Fragrant fruitiness and intense acidity shine through for a very fine wine, likely to age over several decades." (4/2015) 95-98 points Wine Spectator: "Features a youthfully muscular edge, but remains elegant despite the heft, with a core of plum, red currant and raspberry fruit, guided by supple tannins and backed by subtle tobacco and spice hints. It has a very fresh and precise bouquet, not one that marches out the barrack in confidence fashion, but rather unfolds piece-by-piece in the glass. The quality of the white and red have soared to exceptional heights, and this is certainly still one of the more realistically priced wines of Pessac-Lèognan and classified crus. The 2012 is a beauty, with a dense ruby/purple color, a fabulously plush, opulent texture and medium to full-bodied flavors of cassis, spicy earth and blueberry. Sweet floral and spice notes continue to open up over time, but it is the wine's imposing structure that stands out most. Readers will need to be especially patient here, as the domaine's wines are typically very slow to mature. It should all integrate well as it develops into a seriously ageworthy wine." (4/2015) 94-97 points Wine Spectator: "This crackles with energy, while a mix of white peach, yellow apple, Chartreuse, chamomile and green plum notes all mix together. The finish is still coiled up, but there's range and length here to spare." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One can’t say enough about this winery, which may still fly under the radar of most consumers. The fully mature 2000 displays gorgeous aromas of camphor, lead pencil shavings, unsmoked tobacco, plums, and black currants. With full body, a velvety texture, and beautiful weight, richness, and length, this superb wine should evolve, possibly improve for another 15 years. It’s a beauty!" (06/2010)

2004 Carbonnieux Blanc, Pessac-Léognan

90 points Robert Parker (06/07) Excellent vintage for white Bordeaux with fine balance of acid and fruit. A lovely nose, still showing a touch of oak, but with some appealing lanolin and toast notes coming through from the sémillon. Full and dry, fresh and nicely defined though not exactly laser-like in its precision. It has a nice, firm structure. Another winner from the Perrin family.

Bid on this bottle of 1989 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (100JS, 100RP, 100WS, 98AG, 97ST). Wine Spectator: "What a gorgeous, seductive and beautiful wine, as always. I can't get over the perfumed aromas of subtle milk chocolate, cedar and sweet tobacco. Full-bodied, yet so refined and silky, lasting for minutes on the palate. Everything is in just the right proportion. This is a wine that will go on forever. I love it. One of my great loves in the wine world." (01/2010)

2002 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (Previously $400.00)

93 points Wine Spectator: "Complex aromas of blackberries, tobacco and cedar follow through to a full-bodied palate, with ripe, velvety tannins and a long, caressing finish. Very beautiful." (3/2005)92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good ruby-red. Redcurrant, plum, tobacco and flowers on the nose. Suave and light on its feet, with excellent integrated acidity framing and extending the flavors. Classy and classic wine, finishing with ripe, building tannins. This would be perfect with a cigar. Today Delmas and Masclet prefer this 2002 to the 2001 Haut-Brion, but for La Mission they give the edge to the 2001." (6/2005) ...Read More »

1995 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan

91 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a blend of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, and 5% cabernet franc; 12.6% alcohol): Medium red with an amber rim. Woodsy notes of spicecake and forest floor complicate redcurrant, tobacco, mocha, and smoke on the nose. Nicely concentrated and vibrant, with a cool, crisp quality to the clean flavors of red fruits, spices, and minerals. Builds nicely on the back end, finishing with smooth tannins and above-average length." (4/2013) Wine Spectator: "Offers more on the nose than the palate, yet it's delicious. Gorgeous aromas of berries and stones. Medium- to full-bodied, w ...Read More »

1999 Pape-Clément, Pessac-Léognan

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The stunning1999 Pape Clement is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Merlot. The wine is performing better from bottle than it did from cask. There is a fabulous bouquet of smoke, blueberries, raspberry cassis, and liquid minerals. This is a medium to full-bodied, layered, concentrated wine with no hard edges. As it sat in the glass, additional aromas of cedar wood, graphite, and cigar smoke emerged. This is a classic, sexy, knock-out Pessac-Leognan with a surprisingly dense, rich style for a 1999. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2018." (4/2002)

1988 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan (Previously $200)

94 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of iodine, pipe tobacco and red fruits follow through to a full body, with soft and silky tannins and intense flavors of tar, berry, and licorice. Beautiful texture too. Long and seductive. Really excellent. —'88/'98 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2008). (Web-2009)"92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A gorgeous wine and one of the vintage’s most successful efforts, Pape Clement's dark plum/purple-colored 1988 has a nose of roasted herbs, sweet tobacco smoke, red as well as black currants, and scorched earth. The wine still has a deep ruby color, with only a hint of lightening at the r ...Read More »

2011 Smith-Haut-Lafitte Rouge, Pessac-Léognan

94 points James Suckling: "A wine that has a beautiful depth of fruit, with currants, minerals and dried flowers on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied, with super-integrated tannins that last for minutes. This is muscular yet polished. Extremely well done for the vintage. Better in 2017." (2/2014)94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The grand vin, the 2011 Smith-Haut-Lafitte is another great successes (and that’s saying something after the remarkable duo of 2009 and 2010 as well as the brilliant 2008). This wine exhibits a dense purple color along with a big, sweet nose of creme de cassis, mulberries, licorice and ...Read More »

2012 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Haut Brion (65% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Cabernet Franc) is certainly one of the candidates for the wine of the vintage, with a dense purple color, classic nose of crushed rock, lead pencil shavings, black raspberry, blueberry and flowers. The wine shows subtle barbecue smoke notes in the background, but is full-bodied, stunningly concentrated and builds incrementally, yet finishes with luxurious, almost extravagant amounts of fruit and intensity. From only 46% of the production, this is an absolutely remarkable effort from the Dillon ...Read More »

2011 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan (Previously $95.00)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The saturated ruby/purple-hued 2011 Haut-Bailly exhibits a glorious, subtle, noble set of aromatics consisting of red and black currants, sweet cherries, graphite, truffles and a faint hint of wood spice. The wine hits the palate with the profound elegance and purity that have become so much a characteristic under Wilmers and Sanders. Still youthful, with good acidity and freshness, this brilliant, medium-bodied 2011 needs another 4-5 years of bottle age, and should evolve effortlessly for 20-25 years. 94+ (RP)" (4/2014) 92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Best Buy* Packed with dense tannin ...Read More »

2004 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan

96 points Wine & Spirits: "Open the bottle and you'll find harmony in the glass, but the wine remains subtle, stony and mute, as if the flavors lie behind a closed door. Over the course of several days, that door begins to open, the stoniness transforms into sleek fruit, as if to mirror the complexity of the multicolored pebbles that sustain Haut-Brion's vines, a range of flavors from red to purple to black. The structure grows increasingly substantial, while the harmony remains, lending the wine mysterious power. Twenty years from now, this will just begin to reach a plateau and ...Read More »

1996 Smith-Haut-Lafitte, Pessac-Leognan

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1996 Smith-Haut-Lafitte is the quintessentially elegant Bordeaux. With a dark ruby/purple color, it displays a beautiful presentation of blackberry and cassis fruit nicely dosed with subtle new oak. On the attack, the wine is sweet and pure, with striking symmetry, and a compellingly balanced mid-palate and finish. Although not as big as some blockbusters from this vintage, it is extremely complex (both aromatically and flavor-wise), and impressive for its restraint, subtlety, and impeccable balance. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2016. (RP)" (4/1999) Jancis Robinson: "Quit ...Read More »
