(4/2015) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Château Carbonnieux Blanc 2014 has a pretty nose in the making: precise apple blossom and blackcurrant leaf aromas that gently waft from the glass. The palate is crisp on the entry, the acidity not as shrill as some of its peers, thus rendering it a more 'languid' Pessac-Léognan. 2013 l'Avocat Blanc, Graves Top Pick!
2013 l'Avocat Blanc, Graves

Ch. L’Avocat is from the small commune of Cerons, which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley in Napa earlier. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in April to be tasted and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost 8 weeks later and was shown the gravely, plateau vineyards by her husband Sean who manages the vines. The vineyards were purchased by the Allisons in 2002; the fruit was pr... Read More »

2010 Léognan, Pessac-Léognan

This historic estate dates back to the 17th century, when the property belonged to the monks of St. John. It wasn't until the early 20th century that the owners discovered a promising stretch of gravely-sandy soil and decided to plant 6 hectares of grapes, with advice from their neighboring estate, Domaine de Chevalier. Today their vineyards are planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot. With meticulous winemaking, they craft fine wines that stand the test of time. This vintage was the winner of the Gold Medal at the Concours Mondial Bruxelles.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fieuzal's 1989 exhibits a deep ruby/purple color with some lightening at the edge. This lavishly-oaked wine displays copious quantities of toasty new oak as well as earth/herb-tinged red and black currant fruit in its moderately intense bouquet. On the palate, the wine reveals medium body, low acidity, and elevated tannin in the finish. It is a more compact, leaner style of wine than its slightly sweeter, fleshier sibling, the 1990. 2015 Fieuzal, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival)

93-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel Sample. There is a great balance between the spicy wood and the rich fruits that show off the ripe vintage. This is a wine that is poised, concentrated and ready to age. (RV)" (4/2015) 93-94 points James Suckling: "Lots of blackberry and black currant aromas and flavors. Full body, round tannins, salty and earthy undertones. Very long and flavorful. 48% cabernet sauvignon, 45% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 2% petit verdot." (3/2015) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 de Fieuzal has a very seductive bouquet, almost Saint Emilion in style (perhaps the hand of consultant Hubert de Boüard at play?). I mean tha ...Read More »

1986 Pape-Clément, Graves (1.5L)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Big, broad, lush, supple and tannic, this is a rich, complex, dramatic wine with layers of cedar, plum, and currant flavors that are sharply focused, elegant and subtle. Delicious to drink now if you can look past the soft tannins. It's a solid candidate." (6/1989) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Still young and vibrant, with a deep ruby/purple color and a sweet nose of black currants intermixed with earth and some vanilla, this medium-bodied wine is very graceful, stylish, and classic, with relatively high tannin, a cooler-climate flavor profile, and long, moderately tannic finish. (7/2012) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "So opulent and open, this is a seductively ripe wine, beautifully layering its sweet red-berry fruits, complex ripe tannins and rounded structure. It is still Bordeaux in its texture, but it is certainly very New World in its rich density." 1989 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan

92 points Wine Spectator: "Gorgeous wine, so well crafted. Good dark-ruby color. Aromas of cherry, spice and cocoa. Full-bodied, firmly tannic and a long finish of fruit and tannins. Needs time to mellow." (5/1999) Jancis Robinson: "Very rich and thick. Bit like 2009. Bit loose. Very sweet. Some dried grape flavours." (11/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Haut-Bailly is often such a restrained, gentle, subtle wine that it can get lost in a blind tasting, particularly when served side by side with more powerful Bordeaux. That was not the case in my recent tasting, as both the 1989 and 1990 vintages performed well. The 1989 is a ri ...Read More »

2015 Clos Marsalette, Pessac-Léognan (Pre-Arrival)

92-93 points James Suckling: "Lots of mineral and blackberry character. Full and very silky with refined tannins and depth and beauty." (4/2016) 90-93 points Vinous: "The 2015 Clos Marsalette, Stephan von Neipperg's Pessac-Léognan, is a rich, ample wine. Broad, generous and inviting, the Clos Marsalette is endowed with serious depth. Dark red cherry, plum, spice, leather and cedar flesh out in the glass. In 2015, the Clos Marsalette is especially big. It also has the potential to be a serious overachiever. Tasted two times. (AG)" (4/2016) 90-93 points Wine Spectator: "Bright, with damson plum and bitter cherry notes laced with a subtle sa ...Read More »

(4/2014) 91-92 points James Suckling: "The core of fruit is lovely here with extremely integrated tannins and a mineral, stone and blueberry character. Full body. Bright finish. Earthy and spicy." (4/2014) 89-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A strong effort, the 2013 Pape Clement boasts a dark ruby/plum color along with notes of black currants, mulberries, cherries, graphite, and a hint of white chocolate, medium body, more substance, depth and texture t ...Read More »

2004 Domaine de Chevalier Rouge, Pessac-Léognan

95 points Wine & Spirits: "The fineness of Chevalier's tannin is matched by the nobility of the fruit, a Cabernet that rides high across the palate, then lasts as a deep chord of flavor. The integration of the tannin and firm, currantlike fruit creates the wine's beauty for now, compelling for its balance of freshness and concentration. Sleek and dry as the stones in which it grows, this has lasting fruit richness for a long life ahead." (10/2007) 93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* This property, run so expertly by Olivier Bernard, is now making reds that almost equal its legendary whites. This 2004 ...Read More »
