1970 Latour a Pomerol, Pomerol

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has always offered an opulent, rich, concentrated, glorious mouthful of Pomerol. Although there was considerable amber at the edge, this bottle exhibited loads of fruit, as well as a sweet, glycerin-dominated mid-section. With a complex, truffle, coffee, mocha, chocolatey, black-cherry-scented nose, this exotic, fat, ripe Latour a Pomerol remains one of the vintage's great successes...." (6/1996) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Firm in texture, but has hit that perfect balance between berry character and earthy maturity, finishing sweet and silky. A medium-weight wine." (5/1994) ...Read More »

1970 Ducru-Beaucaillou, St-Julien

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine has been fully mature and delicious for many years, so I was not surprised by how stunning this bottle was. It has always been an outstanding wine for the vintage - complex, rich, savory, and the quintessentially elegant Bordeaux. This beauty continues to reveal the fragrance and finesse that one expects from Lafite-Rothschild but so rarely finds. A fragrant, complex bouquet of cedar, herbs, vanillin, fruitcake, and coffee is followed by a soft, gentle, graciously-constructed wine with sweet layers of fruit. I am not sure how much longer the 19 ...Read More »

1970 Latour, Pauillac (mid shoulder, oxidized capsule)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at dinner at Domaine de Chevalier. The Latour ’70 can be such a variable beast. This is certainly one of the better, more representative bottles. Deep garnet in colour, nice limpidity in the glass. It has a beautiful nose that to be honest, sweeps aside the respectable Domaine de Chevalier ’70 poured alongside, like a lord dismissing his servant with a swish of his hand. Graphite, wild black fruit, freshly rolled tobacco and a faint hint of truffle. The palate is medium-bodied and after forty years, still quite austere but the balance is nailed. M ...Read More »

1970 La Mission Haut-Brion, Graves Back In Stock!
1970 La Mission Haut-Brion, Graves

90 points Wine Spectator: "Medium garnet; spicy vanilla nose, with cedar and cassis accents; very full-blown cassis flavor; very concentrated, generous and complex; has some volatile acidity, but it's not a flaw." (5/1993) Jancis Robinson: "Transparent ruby. Mellow, biscuity nose - fully mature. A little spiky on the palate with acidity and volatility just starting to come to the fore. Rather hard work but with clean fruitiness dominating the palate, something the vintages of the 1970s above didn’t achieve. Slightly dry finish." (6/2008) K&L Notes: La Mission-Haut-Brion has a long and illustrious history in Grave... Read More »
