95 points Decanter: "65% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon. Great intensity of classic Bordeaux fruit on the nose, cassis, dark cherries and liquorice. The rich round palate is bursting with fresh blackberry and blackcurrant, lovely silky tannins great length all in perfect harmony." (6/2016) K&L Notes: This property is located at the southern end of the Graves region, very close to Barsac and Sauternes. This property is one of the oldest in Bordeaux dating from the 14th century. John Statton built the original chateau in 1360 on the site of a Roman villa, while the land was still in Englis... Read More »
Jancis Robinson: "Two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon, one-third Merlot. 40% of production. Very sweet and round and low key – rather forward but with lovely satiny texture. A bit austere: tannins on the finish and it does fall away a little bit, but it’s awfully well done really – even if hardly recognisable as a St-Estèphe! (JR)" (4/2011) K&L Notes: This wine is stunning. The little brother of Tronquoy Lalande and owned by the Montrose people, this wine is packed with fruit--lots of cassis on the palate. Smooth and sweet and delicious.More structure than the 2009-great for the cellar.
91 points Wine Enthusiast: "Dark in color, this is a concentrated wine that’s very firm in structure, with dense tannins. It’s powered by ripe, mature black fruits as well as acids that cut through the dry texture. This needs several years of aging. (RV)" (2/2013) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Focused, with a singed apple wood frame propelling the core of plum, cassis and black cherry fruit. The solid finish lets hints of charcoal and anise flitter in, displaying fine cut. (JM)" (3/2013) Jancis Robinson: "Dense bright red. Round and fresh. More forward than most but vigorous. Eerily forward. But a nice package. Minerally." (2/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An ...Read More »
Organic in fact bio-dynamic wine with all the bells and whistles. Our first red in from the great 2015 vintage. Soft and elegant and quite forward-in fact drink it in the next few years.
90 points Wine Spectator: "Dense, with dark cocoa, graphite and roasted spice notes embedded in a core of fleshy plum sauce, currant paste and blackberry confiture. The long, racy finish smolders with dark fruit. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2020." (3/2013)
Château Haut-Vigneau is owned by Eric Perrin, the son of the late Anthony Perrin of Château Carbonnieux fame. This property is one of the best value reds in all of Bordeaux. (Clyde Beffa, K&L Co-Owner and Bordeaux Buyer)
90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Château Reynon Blanc has a crisp Granny Smith apple and limestone-scented bouquet that is linear and focused, yet bounding full of energy. The palate is medium-bodied with a lively, citrus-driven entry backed by hints of pineapple and guava. Harmonious from start to finish and with impressive substance, this is a great Reynon Blanc from Denis Dubourdieu. (NM)" (4/2016) 89-91 points Vinous: "Denis Dubourdieu's 2015 Reynon is absolutely delicious. Rich, creamy and inviting, the 2015 captures striking richness and plenty of nuance. Peach, apricot, jasmine and candied lemo ...Read More »
A delicious value red from the right bank. The 10s are usually tannic and a bit hard, but this wine drinks great right now. Lots of sweet blackberry flavors and a smooth, lingering finish. Have it now with a nice rack of lamb. Can be cellared five Plus years. Tastes like a 2009 vintage-maybe they mislabelled it?
94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*#10 in Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Wines of 2008* Surprisingly dry, this has richness rather than sweetness, and intense, powerful botrytis. The honey is intensely perfumed, along with baked apples and spice. Certainly a long-aging wine. (RV)" (6/2008) 92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "It is not unusual for late harvest wines to have a bit of a sharp, kerosene edge to their lush personalities, although that characteristic is more often associated with the sweet wines of Germany than it is with those of Sauternes. Yet there, in the midst of the orange rind, dried peach, juicy pineapple, stra ...Read More »
90 points Wine Enthusiast: "From 2009, Labégorce-Zédé will no longer exist, being amalgamated with Château Labégorce-Margaux. So this 2007 is one of the last vintages. The wine has solid but lively black fruits, the tannins dark, firm and full of blackberry juice flavors with a touch of cranberry dryness. It is definitely for aging. (RV)" (6/2010) Wine Spectator: "Delicate aromas of currant and flowers follow through to a medium body, with fine tannins and an aftertaste of licorice and delicate berry. Fresh and elegant. The vineyards of Chateau Priban cover less than 1 hectare in the Haut-Medoc. A classic Bordeaux blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and petit verdot. The property is very close to Chateau Cantemerle.
Wine Enthusiast: "The wine, still young, has spice and tannins as well as toasty flavors. Its fruit is still developing but will become ripe and full of red berries. The acidity and crisp aftertaste are balanced and fruity. Drink from 2018. (RV)" (12/2016) K&L Notes: About the winery: "A family business for 3 generations, located in Sauveterre de Guyenne, Vignobles Ballarin produces red wines in Bordeaux and Bordeaux Supérieur appellation, under the names of Château Loyasson and Château Roc Levraut. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A straightforward, dark plum/garnet-colored effort, the 2001 Labegorce reveals smoky, earthy elements intertwined with cherries, plums, and cedar. Medium-bodied and elegant...(RP)" (6/2004) Wine Enthusiast: "Huge investment is paying off at Labegorce. And it has not resulted in a wine that is simply modern in style. For here the new wood is well integrated, the fruit is structured, and never too extracted, and the ripeness also has layers of Bordeaux dryness. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A tasty effort from the Reiffers family, this 2007 (70% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits dusty, earthy notes, a lush, medium-bodied style, and abundant black cherry fruit, herb, and spice characteristics. It is deep, medium-bodied, and best drunk over the next 7-8 years. (RP)" (4/2010) Wine Spectator: "Berry and black olive on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied, with firm tannins and a medium-to-light finish. (JS, Web-2008)"
Ch. L’Avocat is from the small commune of Cerons, which is located just north of Barsac and Sauternes in the southern Graves appellation. I met Nicola Allison at a small conference of Women from Bordeaux and Napa Valley in Napa earlier. She followed my advice by sending her wines to our hotel in April to be tasted and Clyde and I liked them. I followed up by visiting the estate almost 8 weeks later and was shown the gravely, plateau vineyards by her husband Sean who manages the vines. The vineyards were purchased by the Allisons in 2002; the fruit was pr... Read More »
97 points Vinous: "The wonderfully nuanced, finessed 2014 Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande exudes pedigree. Crème de cassis, licorice, lavender, licorice and sweet spices are front and center, while beams of supporting tannins and acidity give the wine its energy and overall tension. All of the elements are simply in the right place. Powerful and also remarkably delicate, the 2014 Pichon Comtesse might very well be the wine of the vintage on the Left Bank. Don't miss it! Purchased direct from the property and a personal favorite of K&L founder Clyde Beffa, Labegorce appeals to those with a preference for "old school" Bordeaux: structured, earthy, meaty and rustic, with dark fruits and classic Margaux minerality. Time in bottle brings out additional complexity, as the tannins soften as secondary and tertiary aromas and flavors of dried fruits, tobacco, wood and leather emerge. With 25+ years of age, this wine is mature and ready to drink tonight. Open and enjoy with food...steak, preferably!
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This Haut-Medoc sleeper of the vintage from Bordeaux visionary Bernard Magrez possesses copious quantities of black currant and cherry fruit as well as supple tannins presented in a medium-bodied, opulent style... (RP)" (6/2007) Wine Enthusiast: "Now mature, this is a powerful wine for the vintage. It has a spice note, plus tannins that are still present and likely to develop further. The flavors of truffle, gamy beef and beet are are testaments to the age of this wine. (RV)" (2/2013)
A Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon blend, this Bordeaux blanc is an absolute K&L favorite. Bracing acidity melds with ripe yellow apple and fig to satisfy any white wine lover's thirst. Pairs with anything from Mozzarella Caprese to grilled fish. This wine loves to be enjoyed with great company.
94 points James Suckling: "Fantastic aromas of blackberries, flowers, chalk and blueberries. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Intense and structured." (2/2017) 90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Château Tour Saint Christophe 2014 has a very pure bouquet. There is some new oak to be subsumed, but there is plenty of fruit to support it. The palate is ripe and sensual on the entry with supple tannin, plush black cherry and blackberry fruit with a generous, modern-style opening with commendable length. This could turn out to be one of Saint Emilion's classier offerings in 2014. (NM) ...Read More »
90-92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Château d’Arce 2014 is the first vintage (last year was hailed off) that comes from 4.41ha of Merlot in Saint Etienne de Lys on the limestone plateau and vinified at Château Poesia. Picked on 14 and 15 October, it was fermented in concrete tanks and matured in 30-50% new oak. It has a floral, feminine bouquet with pure cassis and blueberry scents that are nicely integrated with the wood. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, lithe tannin and well-judged acidity. This feels harmonious in the mouth, very smooth and it just glides to a sensual finish ...Read More »
90 points Wine Spectator: "Black cherry, plum, graphite and tobacco flavors show good density in this firm, crisp red. Light herbal notes keep it fresh. Grippy, but focused, pure and dense. Wine Spectator: "Pepper and tar notes lead the way, with briar-framed plum and black currant fruit forming the core. A tarry accent echoes through the finish. (JM, Web-2014)"
96-97 points James Suckling: "This shows fabulous depth of fruit and ripe tannins that last for minutes. Full body. Insane finish. Powerful. Greatest ever from here." (3/2016) 95-97 points Vinous: "The 2015 Malartic Lagravière is a total rock star. Deep, powerful and exotic, the 2015 sweeps across the palate with stunning richness and intensity. The creamy voluptuousness of the vintage is on full display. The blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc works beautifully here. Rich, unctuous and also super-expressive, the 2015 is bursting at the seams with intensity. Da ...Read More »

It is raised in 25% new oak plus one-year barrels. It is a little richer and more opulent than its neighbor, the 2015 Dauzac, due to the higher proportion of Merlot. Another of the fine wines of Dominique Robin, Le Blanc de la Graside is sourced from a vineyard three miles south of Libourne that is planted with 60-year-old Sauvignon Blanc vines. Grapes are harvested at full maturity and aged in casks to round out the wine's generous profile, while it retains a mineral-driven finish. Superb buy.
Vinous: "The 2012 Les Terrasses is the second wine of Tour Saint-Christophe. Drink this soft, supple Saint-Emilion over the next few years, while the fruit retains its juiciness. (AG)" (1/2016)
90-91 points James Suckling: "This shows a lovely core of fruits with chocolate and berry. Full body, with a tender tannin structure. First red vintage from here for new owners who also own Smith-Haut-Lafitte. 85% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon." (4/2013) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The dark ruby/plum/purple 2012 exhibits notes of graphite, cedar wood, roasted herbs and sweet red and black currants. 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a major sleeper of the vintage and the finest Senejac I have tasted. The team from Pontet Canet, who have done such a phenomenal job at that estate, were in charge of making this Senejac, and the result, not surprisingly, is a sensational wine that consumers need to buy by the case. Everything is in balance, and the wine is capable of lasting 10 or mo ...Read More »
98 points James Suckling: "If you want to know what St.-Estèphe smells like, this is it. Aromas of spices, black truffles, forest floor, dried strawberries and tar. This needs at least five or six years to come around, but it’s already fantastic. What harmony and structure. Try in 2022 if you can keep your hands off it!" Approachable now, but there's no rush. (JM)" (3/2017) Vinous: "The 2014 Laroque is a plump, juicy wine to drink now and over the next few years. 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This wine comes from vineyards owned by Saint-Julien Château Beychevelle that lie just outside the appellation. It’s a sophisticated wine that has great balance between the ripe black fruits and fresh acidity. Keenly structured, it has a dark texture and layers of attractive fruit and acidity. A bit short but offering gentle pleasure. (JH)" (10/2015)
93 points Wine Enthusiast: "This second wine of Calon Ségur is beautifully proportioned. It is fruity with rich tannins.
