2016 Tour St-Christophe, St-Emilion (Pre-Arrival)

96-97 points James Suckling: "This is superb: a triumph for the vintage considering how complicated it was in St.-Emilion. Elegance with power. Full-bodied, intense and forthright. Wonderful length and depth. Better than the 2015." (4/2016) 91-94 points Vinous: "*Top 30 Bordeaux Values of 2016 Vintage* The 2016 Tour Saint Christophe is gorgeous. Exotic, ripe and voluptuous, the 2016 possesses striking aromatics and plenty of presence. Smoke, grilled herbs, inky dark fruit, crème de cassis and leather are beautifully delineated in the glass. 2001 Labégorce, Margaux Top Pick!
2001 Labégorce, Margaux

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A straightforward, dark plum/garnet-colored effort, the 2001 Labegorce reveals smoky, earthy elements intertwined with cherries, plums, and cedar. Medium-bodied and elegant...(RP)" (6/2004) Wine Enthusiast: "Huge investment is paying off at Labegorce. And it has not resulted in a wine that is simply modern in style. For here the new wood is well integrated, the fruit is structured, and never too extracted, and the ripeness also has layers of Bordeaux dryness. 95-96 points James Suckling: "Extremely firm and silky. Dark berry, violet, salt and mineral. Full body. Energy, vibrant and verve. Layered and compressed. Best ever here. 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc." (4/2016) 92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2015 Tour Saint-Christophe, owned by Peter Kwok since 2012, is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc cropped at 33 hl/ha between 3-16 October and matured in 40% new oak. It has an intense nose, perhaps slightly on the alcoholic side due to the Merlot (14.8%). The palate is more controlled and refined. (RP)" (2/1998) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red. Cooler aromas of dark berries and menthol. Sweet and textured in the mouth; already displaying plenty of personality. Flavors are more evolved than those of the '96, and also more accessible today. Finishes with substantial chewy tannins. Very spicy and earthy. St. Estephe character. Enjoy or age." (2/2011) 90 points Wine Spectator: "Aromas of currant and fresh flowers follow through to a medium-to-full body, with chewy tannins and a slightly woody finish, but the fruit comes through. It needs another year or two to soften but it’s already gorgeous to drink. Decant an hour or two before." (10/2012) 91-93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Barrel Sample* With its dryness, this seems at first to be all tannin. 93-95 points Wine Enthusiast: "Barrel Sample. The tannins are really deceptive in this wine. It is sumptuous and elegant at the same time. The black currant fruit and acidity are a foil for the powerful tannic structure. Balanced and rich in fruit, it is ready for some serious, but not too long, aging. (RV)" (4/2017) 93-94 points James Suckling: "The brightness and focus to this second wine of Cos are certainly impressive. You can see the quality. Densely packed and fine-grained, with lovely inner-mouth floral lift to its crushed berry flavors. (2/2017) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Langoa Barton was impressive in barrel and this bottle-showing completely vindicated that initial enthusiasm. It has an impressive bouquet with redcurrant, blackberry and cedar aromas, with a hint of violet as it opens in the glass. This is lovely. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe black cherry and raspberry fruit on the entry. It comes across as a playful, jo ...Read More »

2010 Fombrauge, St-Emilion

92 points James Suckling: "Soft red fruit and fresh coffee. Some chocolate and spice. Beautifully textured fruit on the palate with a bright acidity and velvety tannins. Very long and smooth finish. So enjoyable already. Best ever from here? Better in 2015." (2/2013) 92 points Wine Spectator: "This has a really nice graphite frame that drives the core of fig, plum and boysenberry fruit authoritatively, with dense ganache, espresso and tar on the finish. The grip is keeping things tight now, but this should meld in the cellar, as the underlying feel is energetic. Best from 2015 through 2025" (3/2013) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is one ...Read More »

2010 Berliquet, St-Emilion

92 points James Suckling: "Attractive nose with fresh leather, blueberries and vanilla. Nutmeg, chocolate and cedar. Full and super round with smooth polished tannins and excellent fruit. Long finish with licorice and soft mineral notes. Wonderful wine that will drink well from 2016." (2/2013) 91 points Wine Spectator: "This is nicely cloaked with charcoal and roasted apple wood, while the core of steeped fig, blackberry and black cherry paste notes sits in reserve. The well-defined finish is mostly grip for now, but should meld in the cellar. Best from 2014 through 2026. (JM)" (3/2013) Jancis Robinson: "Glossy dark purplish cri ...Read More »

2012 Le Pape, Pessac-Léognan

90 points James Suckling: "A refined and polished red with oyster shells, light berries and stones. Full-bodied, tight and reserved. A beauty." (2/2015) Vinous: "The 2012 Chateau Le Pape is the first wine made from start to finish by the team of Haut-Bailly, and it shows in the wine's textural richness and depth. Dark red cherries, smoke, cloves and mint flesh out in a racy, voluptuous wine to drink now and over the next decade-plus. (AG)" (1/2016) Wine Enthusiast: "0 Firmly smoky, strong wood-aged texture gives a solid structure. However, the wine has some juicy acidity that allows a fresher side to show throu ...Read More »

2014 Fonplégade, St-Émilion

92 points James Suckling: "Dark-berry and oyster-shell aromas follow through to a medium body, integrated tannins and a tangy finish. An almost burnt lemon undertone. Linear and polished. Very solid. Drink in 2019." (2/2017) 89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Château Fonplegade 2014 has a surprisingly light and reserved bouquet: pretty and floral but requiring a couple of minutes to get into its stride. The palate is medium-bodied with good backbone, a little edginess coming through with aeration, although it remains stubborn and linear on the finish. It just needs barrel aging to knit the component parts togethe ...Read More »

2012 Nenin, Pomerol

93 points James Suckling: "Chewy and rich with a walnut, almond and delicate chocolate character as well as the ripe fruit. Full and very rich. Drink now." (10/2016) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*** Cellar Selection *** Big and rich, this is a solid, dark and dense wine. Power and ripe fruit dominate the opulent structure. Produced by the Delon family of Léoville Las Cases in Saint-Julien, it is a wine for aging. Drink from 2020, but the wine will be developing for more years after that. (RV)" (5/2015) 91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux tasting. The 2012 Nenin, which is the same blend as the 2015, appears to ...Read More »

2014 Lynch Bages Blanc, Bordeaux

92 points James Suckling: "A tangy and fresh white with dried-lemon and hot-stone aromas and flavors. A medium body on the palate leads into a flan and cooked-pineapple aftertaste." (2/2017) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Piercing and racy in feel for now, with Key lime and Meyer lemon notes turning fuller through the finish, accented by honeysuckle and peach hints. Should put on a little weight in the cellar. (JM)" (3/2017) 88-90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The Blanc de Lynch Bages 2014 is a blend of 52% Sauvignon Blanc, 28% Sémillon and 20% Muscadelle raised in 45% new wood. It has a crisp, fresh pear and green apple-scented bouquet, the oak neat ...Read More »

2012 Gloria, St-Julien

92-94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Solid and concentrated, this wine certainly shows great dryness as well as fruit. It has power and density, and a texture that balances new wood as well as the fruitiness. (RV)" (4/2013) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 is a successful effort once again from Château Gloria, a property that has been on a major qualitative roll for decades. Dense ruby/purple in color, it has sweet, juicy, blackcurrant and black cherry fruit, no real evidence of any oak, but a fleshy, open-knit, meaty mouthfeel. Excellent purity, low acidity and ripe tannin all characterize this beautiful wine... (R ...Read More »
