1970 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1970 Lafite-Rothschild, Pauillac (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the 'First Growth' lunch in London. Nice clear colour. The bouquet definitely has more vigour then previous bottles encountered, with sandalwood, cigar box and cedar to the fore. Not a complex nose, but nicely defined and unashamedly 'classic' in style. The palate is medium-bodied and well-balanced, good level of ripeness, elegant; harmonious but aloof. The second half is conservative but still fresh with just a touch of piquancy right on the finish. This Lafite is not going to go anywhere, but this shows that good bottles can still be pleasurable. 1999 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1999 Margaux, Margaux (95RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Chateau Margaux has been the standout First Growth since I first tasted the wine from barrel. Now reaching its plateau of maturity, it has an understated nose at first, armed with impressive mineralité with a gorgeous graphite seam. The definition and precision here is top class. The palate is medium-bodied and smooth in texture, very harmonious and assured, surprisingly with some new oak still to be fully assimilated into the wine. The signature Margaux traits of crushed black cherries and violets comes through towards the finish, suggestions of raspberry reserve and desiccated orange peel enhancing the long finish. Perhaps I might temper my initial enthusiasm for the 1999 Château Margaux...but only slightly. It comes highly recommended. Tasted May 2016. (NM)" (10/2016)

1986 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (100JS, 100RP, 99VN, 99WS, 98ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1986 Mouton-Rothschild is a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot that was picked from 2 October until 16 October. Winemaker Philippe Dhalluin, who was not working at the property back then, told me that the pH was fairly low at 3.54 when it is usually around 3.75, due to the natural tartaric acid in the vines. It has a powerful and intense bouquet as always: exemplary graphite and cedar scents, a touch of black pepper and incense. It seems to unfurl in the glass, like a motor revving its engine. The palate is beautifully balanced with its trademark firm tannic structure, a Mouton-Rothschild with backbone and masculinity. Layers of black fruit intermingling with mint and graphite, a hint of licorice emanating from the Merlot, gently fanning out and my God, it is incredibly long. It is not like the 1985 Mouton-Rothschil

1990 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (98RP, 94WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "In terms of the brilliant complexity and nobility of the aromatics, scorched earth, black currants, plums, charcoal, cedar, and spices, the 1990 offers an aromatic explosion that is unparalleled. It is always fascinating to taste this wine next to the 1989, which is a monumental effort, but much more backward and denser, without the aromatic complexity of the 1990. The 1990 put on weight after bottling, and is currently rich, full-bodied, opulent, even flamboyant by Haut Brion’s standards. It is an incredible expression of a noble terroir in a top vintage. While it has been fully mature for a number of years, it does not reveal any bricking at the edge, and I suspect it will stay at this level for another 10-15 years ... but why wait? It is irresistible now. (RP)" (06/2009)

2010 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this bottle of 2010 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan (100RP, 96JS, 95WE, 95WS, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I certainly underrated the 2010 Pape Clement from barrel, rating it only 93-95+. (Thank God I put a 'plus' there!) Having tasted it four times in Bordeaux, and rating it perfect three times and 99 the fourth time, this final blend of 51% Merlot, 47.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1.5% Petit Verdot is perfection in a bottle. Tipping the scales at 14.5% natural alcohol, there are 8,000 cases of it. Its sublime elegance, the power, the medium to full-bodied texture, the silky tannins, the subtle notes of smoke, lead pencil shavings, black currants, charcoal, camphor, blueberry and cassis fruit are all remarkable. It is a rich, full-throttle wine, but the elegance and the great terroir of Pape Clement come through in abundance. It is slightly more developed and evolved than the 2005 was at a similar point in its evolution, but it certainly needs another 5-7 years to develop f

1978 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1978 Margaux, Margaux (93RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1978 Chateau Margaux is a significant wine for two reasons: that is was the first under the Mentzelopoulos family after acquiring the property and also, it was their best wine in many years. Today it is still going strong. Clear in color, it has quite a deep garnet core. The nose is very seductive with black fruit, leather, scorched earth, a hint of lavender all beautifully defined and quintessentially Margaux. The medium-bodied palate has exquisite balance, the acidity nicely judged, still a little masculine and 'solid' compared to the subsequent vintages under Paul Pontallier, yet fresh and vital. Sure, there is a grittiness and a touch of rusticity towards the finish, but all in all, this represents a great 1978 Left Bank and a signpost that the First Growth was back on the right track after a dismal run of vintages during the 1970s. Blackcurrants, violets, lead pencil shavings and a touch of minerality all emerge from this rich, massively concentrated Margaux that still glides across the palate with no sense of weight or heaviness. It’s perfectly balanced, has a ripe, hedonistic core of fruit, as well as integrated acidity. It’s a dream today, but is going to have 30-40 years or more of prime drinking. Drink now through 2057." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beginning to open magnificently, the still dense purple-colored 2000 reveals a blossoming bouquet of blackberries, cassis, graphite and pen ink. Full-bodied with velvety tannins that have resolved themselves beautifully over the last eleven years, this wine is still an adolescent, but it exhibits admirable purity, texture, mouthfeel and power combined with elegance. 1989 Raymond Lafon, Sauternes (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 1989 Raymond Lafon, Sauternes (1.5L) (91RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 exhibits aromas of honeyed pineapple/tropical fruit and toasty new oak, as well as an exotic, flashy perfume that is not as pronounced in either the 1990 or 1988. The 1989 exhibits less botrytis than the other two vintages. The wine possesses an opulent, full-bodied, exotic, lavishly rich personality, moderate sweetness, and huge quantity of extract, glycerin, and alcohol in its finish. The wine is also extremely young and unevolved. Anticipated maturity: 2000-2025. (RP)" (01/1998)

Tannic, with lots of pure black raspberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with a notion of charcoal as well as the aforementioned rocky/powdered stone component, this long distance runner requires another 5-6 years of cellaring. 1965 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1965 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac. One of the rarest vintages, the 1965 Mouton Rothschild features the artwork of Dorothea Tanning. Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2005 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (97RP, 96WS, 95DC, 95ST, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tasted at the Pontet-Canet vertical in London, the 2005 Château Pontet-Canet has long been one of the stars of the vintage and this might well be the best of over a dozen showings of this wine. However, do not expect ostentation on the nose. This is 2005 and like many wines of this vintage, even with considerable decanting, it remained broody and introspective on the nose, as if it is checking you out and seeing if you are worthy. Once you have been accepted, then it swings the doors open to reveal gorgeous scents of blackberry, briary and cassis fruit, perhaps a little more sous-bois than I have noticed compared to previous bottles. The palate is medium-bodied, but dense and structured—certainly a more masculine Pontet-Canet built for long-term ageing ... (NM)" (07/2016)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1995 Cos d'Estournel, St-Estèphe (95RP, 94WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A wine of extraordinary intensity and accessibility, the 1995 Cos d'Estournel is a sexier, more hedonistic offering than the muscular, backward 1996. Opulent, with forward aromatics (gobs of black fruits intermixed with toasty pain grille scents and a boatload of spice), this terrific Cos possesses remarkable intensity, full body, and layers of jammy fruit nicely framed by the wine's new oak. Because of low acidity and sweet tannin, the 1995 will be difficult to resist young, although it will age for 2-3 decades. Anticipated maturity: 2001-2025. (RP)" (02/1998)

The fully mature 2000 displays gorgeous aromas of camphor, lead pencil shavings, unsmoked tobacco, plums, and black currants. With full body, a velvety texture, and beautiful weight, richness, and length, this superb wine should evolve, possibly improve for another 15 years. It’s a beauty! (RP)" (06/2010)

Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2000 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (97RP, 95WS, 93JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The plushest, most ostentatious and dramatic of all the Leovilles in 2000, this wine is already sumptuous, displaying some nuances in its huge nose of vanilla bean, black chocolate, jammy black cherries, cassis, and graphite in a flamboyant style. Opulent, savory, rich, and full-bodied, it is a head-turning, prodigious wine and a complete contrast to the extracted behemoth of Leoville Barton and the backward, classic Leoville Las Cases. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Haut-Brion, Pessac-Léognan (96RP, 95WS, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is fun to go back and forth between the 1995 and 1996, two superb vintages for Haut-Brion. The 1995 seems to have sweeter tannin and a bit more fat and seamlessness when compared to the more structured and muscular 1996. Certainly 1995 was a vintage that the brilliant administrator Jean Delmas handled flawlessly. The result is a deep ruby/purple-colored wine with a tight but promising nose of burning wood embers intermixed with vanilla, spice box, earth, mineral, sweet cherry, black currant, plum-like fruit, medium to full body, a high level of ripe but sweet tannin, and a finish that goes on for a good 40-45 seconds. Of the 2001 Climens, Barsac,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The Climens 2001 has always possessed a deliriously complex and intense bouquet that is beautifully defined: dried quince and marmalade, honeycomb and antique furniture. There is an inchoate, resinous element that will surely surface over the next decade or so. This is a bouquet that demands attention and in this blind tasting, sticks out from the crowd, a sui generis. Since I last tasted it, the palate has opened up and is beginning to pump on all cylinders. 1966 Beychevelle, St-Julien
Bid on this bottle of 1966 Beychevelle, St-Julien (93JG). John Gilman: "Beychevelle in this era has to be one of the great unsung stars of the Médoc, and the 1966 is certainly one of the prettiest and most stunning bottles that I have tasted from this lovely château. The nose on the ’66 Beychevelle absolutely soars from the glass in a brilliant mélange of black berries, raspberries, a classic touch of Beychevelle meatiness, anise, black truffles, a whiff of mint leaf, a lovely base of earth and a pungent topnote of violet. On the palate the wine is medium-full, elegant and refined, with lovely intensity of flavor, flawless balance, and a very long, meltingly tannic, utterly refined and bouncy finish. This is one of the great sleepers still to be found in the mature claret market. A hauntingly beautiful bottle of wine cut in the Palmer mould, or more correctly, a classic Beychevelle. (Drink between 2006-2026) " (05/2011)

1994 La Mission Haut-Brion Rouge, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1994 La Mission Haut-Brion Rouge, Pessac-Léognan ((91-93ST), 92RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Very good full color. More discreet, brooding aromas of black cherry, leather and smoke, plus a faint burnt quality that characterizes this wine in the riper years. Lovely intensity and purity of fruit in the mouth; sound acids give the wine excellent definition and backbone. Very ripe aftertaste, with dusty, even tannins. Certainly among the top ten of the vintage. (ST)" (05/1996)

1989 Montrose, St-Estèphe
Bid on this bottle of 1989 Montrose, St-Estèphe (100RP, 99JS, 96WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: " .... Lucid in color, the aromatics do not hold back with vibrant blackberry, blueberry and black truffle, hints of sous-bois, all with sensational precision that few can match in this vintage (indeed, its precision lends it a veneer of modernity since "precision" is now more commonplace across Bordeaux). The palate is brilliantly balanced with filigree tannin. There is wonderful backbone here, extremely fresh and tensile, crystalline even with an exceptional detail, mineral-rich finish that lingers in the mouth. Difficult to fault, this might well be the greatest 1989 Montrose that I have tasted, and certainly wishing to take nothing away from the 1990 Montrose that I tasted alongside, the 1989 is now the one I would pick. Is this the greatest Saint Estèphe of the 1980s? I would put it within the top five Bordeaux of the 1980s. Could this be inching its way to perfection??? Tasted June

2000 d'Issan, Margaux
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2000 d'Issan, Margaux (93RP, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Fully mature, the 2000 D’Issan is a quintessentially elegant, yet concentrated, aristocratic Margaux that defines the appellation. The wine has a dark ruby/purple color just beginning to lighten at the edge. Notes of charcoal, acacia flowers, black raspberries, and blue fruits are followed by a medium to full-bodied wine that builds incrementally on the palate. With its outstanding purity, richness, elegance and length, this is a beauty that has reached its window of maturity, where it should stay for another 15 or more years. (RP)" (06/2010)

2001 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes (375ml)
Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 2001 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes (375ml) (97RP, 93WS, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "La Tour Blanche's spectacular 2001 boasts a light to medium gold color as well as a big, exotic nose of tropical fruits, honeysuckle, orange marmalade, and creme brulee. In the mouth, notions of peaches, lychees, and caramelized citrus give way to a weighty, full-bodied, concentrated yet incredibly precise and well-delineated sweet white. It is a tour de force in Sauternes! Anticipated maturity: 2009-2035. (RP)" (06/2004)

2001 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes
Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2001 La Tour Blanche, Sauternes (96RP, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The La Tour Blanche 2001 has long been the “insiders’ Sauternes” for the vintage. Leave the Yquem ’01 for the millionaires: load up on one of the finest recent vintages from the estate. It has a potent honeyed, frangipane and white flower-scented bouquet with subtle nougat scents in the background lending it an exotic edge. The palate is extremely well balanced with fine acidity effortlessly slicing a swathe through that unctuous, honeyed fruit. There are also understated marmalade notes with a suggestion of crème brûlée furnishing the weighty finish that goes on and on. Just don’t tell anyone how good this La Tour Blanche is...promise? Bid on this bottle of 2009 Smith-Haut-Lafitte Rouge, Pessac-Léognan (100RP, 96JS, 96WS, 94ST, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The finest wine ever made by proprietors Daniel and Florence Cathiard, the 2009 Smith-Haut-Lafitte exhibits an opaque blue/purple color in addition to a glorious nose of acacia flowers, licorice, charcoal, blueberries, black raspberries, lead pencil shavings and incense. This massive, extraordinarily rich, unctuously textured wine may be the most concentrated effort produced to date, although the 2000, 2005 and 2010 are nearly as prodigious. A gorgeous expression of Pessac-Leognan with sweet tannin, emerging charm and delicacy, and considerable power, depth, richness and authority, it should age effortlessly for 30-40+ years. Bravo! Medium to full-bodied, fresh and lively, the acids have fallen away and the tannins have melted into an opulent, fleshy, classic Bordeaux. Consume it over the next 10-15 years. Bravo!
