1963 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1963 Lafite Rothschild, Pauillac. Famed critic Robert Parker says of Lafite: "Bordeaux's most famous property and wine, with its elegant, undersized, and understated label, had become a name synonymous with wealth, prestige, history, respect, and wines of remarkable longevity." Pauillac, a village located between Saint-Estephe and Saint-Julien on Bordeaux's Medoc peninsula, is home to some of the world's most famous and expensive wines (most obviously those of the first growths Chateaux Latour, Lafite Rothschild and Mouton Rothschild). The village has its own appellation specifically for red wines made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon – a variety well suited to the free-draining gravel soils found all around Pauillac.

1986 Talbot, St-Julien
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Talbot, St-Julien (96RP, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A fabulous wine, and one of the two greatest Talbots of the last 50 years, this wine still has a very murky garnet/plum/purple color and a spectacular nose of sweet creme de cassis intermixed with freshly ground pepper, melted road tar, herbes de Provence, and beef blood. It is followed by an enormously concentrated wine of full body, layers of concentration and sweet tannin. The wine seems to be just hitting its plateau of maturity, where it should last for at least 10-15 more years. A prodigious Talbot. Anticipated maturity: Now-2020. (RP)" (01/2003)

2005 La Bienfaisance, St-Emilion
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 La Bienfaisance, St-Emilion ((88-91ST), 90RP). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby-red. Aromas of kirsch and damp earth show an almost porty ripeness. Rich, broad and full but classically dry; offers impressive volume but comes across as a bit massive and chunky. This cold, north-facing terroir can support a hot year like 2005, notes consulting winemaker Stephane Derenoncourt. Still, I would not describe this as an elegant style. Finishes with building tannins." (05/2007)

Of the 2003 Clos Fourtet, St-Emilion,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "This magnificent wine, which is just beginning to come into full maturity, boasts an inky/purple color as well as copious notes of blackberries, licorice, violets, and a striking chalky minerality. Full-bodied, voluptuously textured and stunningly pure, this great Bordeaux is one of the vintage’s superstars. The finish lasts 40-45 seconds in this majestic, multidimensional St. Emilion. It should continue to drink well for 10-15 years, but why wait?" (08/2014)

2009 La Vieille Cure, Fronsac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 La Vieille Cure, Fronsac (93RP, (91-93WE), 90WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This property has made so many fine efforts lately that it is difficult to say the 2009 is better than their 2005. However, the 2009 is a charming, sexy, dense ruby/purple-colored offering displaying lots of ripe Merlot fruit intermixed with hints of charcoal, black raspberries, black currants, lead pencil shavings and truffles. This full-bodied, pure, nicely textured and layered Fronsac is a sleeper of the vintage that considerably over-performs for its modest price. Drink it over the next 15+ years. This is an obvious great value!" (02/2012)

2009 Laforge, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Laforge, St-Emilion (96RP, 92ST, 90WS, 89WE, 16DC). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From proprietor Jonathan Maltus, this blend of three terroirs, two on sand and one on gravel, is a blend of 92% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc. About 2,000 cases are produced, and the prodigious 2009 is the finest vintage to date. Inky blue/purple, with notes of licorice, camphor, black truffle, blackberry and blueberry, this full-bodied wine has massive concentration yet at the same time displays elegance and harmony. The equilibrium and 60+-second length make for a huge, massive, but incredibly well-balanced wine, like a shadow of the proprietor himself. Drink it over the next 15 or more years. " (02/2012)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Brane-Cantenac, Margaux (95RP, 94JS, 94WE, 93WS, 91ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "With a gorgeously evolved, extremely complex bouquet of forest floor, spring flowers, lead pencil shavings and red and black currants, this full-bodied, dense, ruby/plum/purple-colored wine hits the palate with an opulent, fleshy, full-bodied richness, silky tannins, and a very layered, profoundly concentrated style that is, at the same time, both powerful and sublime. This gorgeous wine from proprietor Andre Lurton will benefit from 3-5 years of cellaring and evolve for 25-30 years. (95+) " (02/2013)

2010 Fleur Cardinale, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Fleur Cardinale, St-Emilion (95RP, 94ST, 93JS, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dense ruby/purple, it tips the scales at 15% natural alcohol and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. Full-bodied in texture, it offers up loads of blueberry, blackberry and raspberry fruit intermixed with some cedar, vanilla and a touch of spring flowers. Impressively built, with good acidity and light tannin, this is a superb example of wine that reaches its prime in 3 or 4 years and lasts two decades. It's right up there with their brilliant 2005. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The finest wine ever made by proprietors Daniel and Florence Cathiard, the 2009 Smith-Haut-Lafitte exhibits an opaque blue/purple color in addition to a glorious nose of acacia flowers, licorice, charcoal, blueberries, black raspberries, lead pencil shavings and incense. This massive, extraordinarily rich, unctuously textured wine may be the most concentrated effort produced to date, although the 2000, 2005 and 2010 are nearly as prodigious. A gorgeous expression of Pessac-Leognan with sweet tannin, emerging charm and delicacy, and considerable power, depth, richness and authority, it should age effortlessly for 30-40+ years. Bravo!" 1985 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1985 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (90RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The rich, complex, well-developed bouquet of oriental spices, toasty oak, herbs, and ripe fruit is wonderful. On the palate, the wine is also rich, forward, long, and sexy. It ranks behind both Haut-Brion and Chateau Margaux in 1985. I am surprised by how evolved and ready to drink this wine is. Readers looking for a big, boldly constructed Mouton should search out other vintages, as this is a tame, forward, medium-weight wine that is close to full maturity. It is capable of lasting another 15+ years. This estate compares their 1985 to their 1959, but to me it is more akin to their 1962 or 1953." (01/1998)

1986 Margaux, Margaux
Bid on this bottle of 1986 Margaux, Margaux (98AG, 98RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A magnificent example of Chateau Margaux and one of the most tannic, backward Margauxs of the last 50 years, the 1986 continues to evolve at a glacial pace. The color is still a dense ruby/purple with just a hint of lightening at the rim. With several hours of aeration, the aromatics become striking, with notes of smoke, toast, creme de cassis, mineral, and white flowers. Very full-bodied, with high but sweet tannin, great purity, and a very masculine, full-bodied style, this wine should prove nearly immortal in terms of its aging potential. It is beginning to budge from its infantile stage and approach adolescence. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2050. Last tasted, 12/02. (RP)" (01/2003)

I decanted it only right before serving - a mistake made while concentrating on the cooking food. On the nose there were coffee and chocolate aromas with hints of vanilla. It was super fruity, and its medium body was coupled with beautifully soft tannins. This is just coming around now and it's very New World in style. Overall, a much overlooked vintage from Mouton. 1989 Clos l'Eglise, Pomerol
Bid on this bottle of 1989 Clos l'Eglise, Pomerol. Before Robert Parker's influence in Bordeaux became so pronounced, wineries like Clos l'Eglise produced less extracted wines with a less fruit forward profile. The 1989 is a delicate silky wine with herb, cedar notes, and even some tomato flavors. A mild mannered Bordeaux that doesn't overwhelm the palate. (I disagree, but only slightly.) This wine has laser-like definition in its an remarkable nose of a subtle charcoal fire interwoven with spring flowers, creme de cassis, blueberry liqueur and spicy wood. 1966 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 1966 Pichon-Baron, Pauillac. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This exceeded my expectations given that this was supposed to be after the estate lost their way under Bertrand Bouteiller. A dark mahogany core. The nose is quite attractive, soft red-berried fruit, redcurrant, hot bricks on a summer day with a touch of mint. It is marred by a slight tinge of dishwater. Medium-bodied, good cohesion with a solid structure and good depth. Rustic, edgy but with good ripeness for a ’66, less austere and fleshier than other ’66 Pauillacs. On the finish: decayed cherry fruit, mouldy oranges in an antique glass vase. A pleasant surprise. Drink now. Tasted May 2009. (Neal Martin, Wine Journal)" (09/2009)

Bid on this bottle of 2010 Montrose, St-Estèphe (100RP, 97JS, 97WS, 96WE, 94ST). Harvest was October 15 to 17. The wine has really come on since I last tasted it, and it needs at least another 10 years of cellaring. The blend was 53% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The wine is opaque black/blue, with an incredible nose of blueberry and blackberry liqueur, with hints of incense, licorice, and acacia flowers. Tannins are incredibly sweet and very present. The wine is full-bodied, even massive, with great purity, depth and a finish that goes on close to a minute. This is a 50- to 75-year-old wine that will repay handsomely those with good aging genes. 2002 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2002 Pichon-Lalande, Pauillac (94RP, (91-94ST), 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the best wines of the vintage, this is a classic Pauillac that is a blend of 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 6% Petit Verdot. Dense ruby/purple in color with a glorious nose of melted licorice, lavender, barbecue smoke, black currants, and graphite, the wine is tannic, classically structured with an opaque ruby/purple color, beautiful definition, and a 1996-ish personality. This deep, full-bodied, elegant yet powerful 2002 should age handsomely for over two decades. Some patience will be required since this vintage exhibits more muscle and virility than normal. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2025." (04/2005)

1974 Trotanoy, Pomerol
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1974 Trotanoy, Pomerol. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the best wines of the vintage (clearly the best Pomerol), Trotanoy's 1974 is now fully mature and should be drunk over the next 2-3 years. Uncommonly concentrated and surprisingly ripe and fruity, this medium- to full-bodied wine has a smooth, mocha, coffee, chocolate-tasting finish. " (01/1998)

Of the 2010 Pape Clément, Pessac-Léognan,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "I certainly underrated the 2010 Pape Clement from barrel, rating it only 93-95+. (Thank God I put a 'plus' there!) Having tasted it four times in Bordeaux, and rating it perfect three times and 99 the fourth time, this final blend of 51% Merlot, 47.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1.5% Petit Verdot is perfection in a bottle. Tipping the scales at 14.5% natural alcohol, there are 8,000 cases of it. I

1973 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 1973 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac. Chris Kissack's TheWineDoctor.com: "Phillippe Rothschild called it '...the monstrous injustice' of Mouton's second growth status. For years the labels stated simply 'Premier ne puis, second ne daigne, Mouton suis,' or 'First I cannot be, second I do not deign to be, I am Mouton'. It was clear from the great vintages produced in the 1860s and 1870s that the 1855 classification was already outdated, and that change was long overdue. But no such review of this classification will ever take place, and it was only thanks to the tireless campaigning of Philippe that Jacques Chirac, then Minister of Agriculture, passed a decree conferring the status of first growth upon Mouton-Rothschild in 1973. At last the wrong had been righted, and from then on Mouton's labels bore a new inscription, 'Premier je suis, second je fus. Mouton ne change,' or 'First I am, second I was. Mouton does not change'."

2005 Clos Fourtet, St-Emilion
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Clos Fourtet, St-Emilion (98RP, 95WS, 94WE, 92ST, 92W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Clos Fourtet is on a roll, having produced a stunning wine in 2003, and an even more brilliant effort in 2005. Stephane Derenoncourt, the consulting oenologist, has plenty with which to work given the fact that this is a relatively large vineyard (50 acres) planted with 85% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc as well as a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon. The inky/blue/purple-colored 2005 boasts an exceptional perfume of acacia flowers, blackberry and blueberry liqueur, graphite, scorched earth, and background oak. The wine possesses a full-bodied texture and abundant quantities of stunningly pure black fruits. The result is a sumptuous St.-Emilion of great concentration, intensity, and overall balance. This prodigious effort looks set for 25-30 years of evolution. Utterly awesome!" (04/2008)

It has very good concentration in the somewhat lean, austere character of the vintage, and plenty of tannin in the finish." (01/1998)
