2005 York Creek "Madrone" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $40) Top Pick!
2005 York Creek "Madrone" Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $40)

After the last few years I think just about everyone has heard us pontificating about just how good, and how insanely inexpensive, the York Creek wines are. Luckily for us and our thirsty customers Fritz Maytag kept deep cellars over the years and still has plenty of wine for us to sell. After the rousing success of past vintages we just keep reloading because the wines are that good and you keep asking us for more. Our latest find is a horizontal of sorts with all three wines coming from the great 2005 vintage. We have two single block Cabernets and a r... Read More »

2005 Pride Mountain Napa-Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (58% from Napa and 42% from Sonoma) possesses a full-bodied mouthfeel as well as loads of cassis fruit, and smoky, subtle oak in the background. Round, plump, and hedonistic, it should drink well for a decade. (RP)" (12/2007) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* A big, juicy young Cab that impresses for sheer flashiness, yet needs some time for its edges to soften. The ripe blackberry and cassis fruit is deep and generous, with nuances of smoky oak and sweet herbs. But the tannins are very strong and astringent. Needs cel ...Read More »

2005 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beringer’s 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve comes from the top selection from all their different holdings, with each vineyard aged separately for close to two years, then blended for quality. This blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc is a gorgeous example of the Private Reserve. Of course, it probably suffers from the fact that Beringer is part of a gigantic international conglomerate, but this is just a stunning wine – inky purple, with plenty of cassis, a hint of espresso, subtle background oak and forest notes. The color is op ...Read More »

2005 Neal Family Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Don't even think of opening this Cab now. The tannins are hard, and they lock down the considerable blackberry, black currant, anise and dark chocolate flavors. It's a very fine wine. The 100% Cab grapes come from Howell Mountain, Atlas Peak, Mt. Veeder, Rutherford, St. Helena and Coombsville, making this a sort of international citizen of Napa Valley." 2005 Faust Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $50.00)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A very good Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux blend from Agustin Huneeus. While it would not be true to say it's a second wine of Quintessa, it does show the balance and integrity of that bottling, with a firm structure and dramatically layered black currant, mineral and cedar flavors. Will undoubtably age." (12/2008) Connoisseurs Guide: "Putting its ripe currant fruit to good use as the focus of its rich, outgoing aromas, this wine is full and supple on entry and firm across the palate with tannins for backbone and deep, slightly chocolate-tinged fruit showing the way in the ...Read More »

2005 Merus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 1,000-case blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot and Malbec, the wine is dense purple-colored to the rim, with an exquisite nose of charcoal, graphite, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied, with great power, richness, and sensational length, this wine will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle-age and last three decades. (RP)" (12/2007) 96 points Wine Spectator: "*Top 100 of 2008 #95* Superrich, smooth and creamy. 2005 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend Back In Stock!
2005 Dominus Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Dominus continues to strut its stuff, tasting like a Napa hybrid blend of a St.-Emilion and Pomerol. Its dark ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by notions of cedarwood, spice box, roasted herbs, sweet black cherry and cassis fruit, licorice, and truffles. Full-bodied with excellent fruit intensity, complex aromatics, supple tannins, and a long finish, this 7,000-case blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot should drink well for two decades or more. 95+ points. 2005 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98RP, 97ST, 96JS, 95WE, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Its bigger brother, or sister, depending on the point of view, is the extremely young, fresh, vigorous, yet still exuberant and promising 2005 Harlan Estate. Normally, the blends on these wines tend to be 85%-90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest tiny proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and possibly some Petit Verdot, although I don’t recall that being a very important part of the estate vineyard. The 2005 is incredibly youthful at age ten, although certainly drinkable. And who wouldn’t consume it if they had the opportunity? It will benefit from another 5-10 years of cellaring and certainly has 30 or more years left in its evolutionary curve. Gorgeous, and tasting akin to a hypothetical Pauillac blended with a great Pessac-Léognan from Bordeaux comes to mind because of the smoky, subtle barbecue notes, fruitcake, forest floor, graphite and mineralit

2005 Blankiet "Paradise Hills Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Vineyard (1,200 cases) reveals a chocolatey espresso roast note with mocha, blackberry and cassis, high tannins, but full body, superb concentration, purity, and an almost Graves-like scorched earth character. This wine needs 3-4 years of bottle age, and should last 25-30 years. (RP)" (12/2007) 93 points Vinous: "Deep ruby-red. Delgadillo Cellars, founded by winemaker Ignacio Delgadillo, Sr. and his son, Ignacio Delgadillo Jr., releases their wine only after three years of bottle age, following a lengthy stay in barrel. Hence, this 2005 is a recent release. 2005 Beaulieu Vineyard "Tapestry Reserve" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

92 points Wine & Spirits: "With the chocolate richness of new oak and the density that has come to define modern Napa Valley’s reds, this wine is still vinous, giving a more classical sense of Cabernet. The structure is tight, the scents of violets, cedar and black olive adding to that traditional impression. It smells earthy, like a vineyard. To decant several hours before roasting venison with blueberries and wild mushrooms." (5/2008) 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "The well-crafted bottling comes up the classier of the winery's two Cabernet bottlings in 2005 and features loads of optimally ripened, blackcurrant fruit set against nicely proportioned oak and a smattering of dusty earth spice. Despite the large production, lower than that of many first growth Bordeaux, the wine, which has tiny amounts of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, shows classic Oakville elegance and precision. Only a slight last-minute drop-off in fruit holds it back from higher award just now, but we do not rule out its chances for better as its knits together and hopefully expands with a stay of a few years in the cellar." Deep plum/purple in color with a sweet nose of burning embers, charcoal, black currants, and some subtle smoked herbs, the wine again displays terrific aromatic complexity and a full-bodied, nicely layered palate impression, with integrated acidity, tannin, alcohol, and wood. 2005 D.R. Stephens "Moose Valley Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from D. R. 2005 Levy & McClellan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A limited production of a very powerful and massive wine from two of California’s most famous winemaking gurus, Bob Levy and Martha McClellan, this wine remains primordial and backward, especially for a 2005. Loads of graphite notes interwoven with cassis, new saddle leather, blackberry and earth are impressive. It may sound unusual, but what came to mind is tasting some of the more recent vintages of Château Montrose in St-Estèphe in Bordeaux. This wine still needs another 5-6 years of cellaring easily. A blend of 47% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, the wine has a dense ruby/purple color, wonderful purity, but jagged tannins and some austerity kept my score from going any higher. Extraordinary aromatics consisting of blueberry liqueur, white flowers, licorice, spice and incense are all present in this profound, multi-layered, full-bodied wine with remarkable purity and precision.
