2005 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points John Gilman: "The 2005 Martha’s Vineyard has an absolutely flamboyant nose that soars from the glass in a celestial blend of red and black cherries, mint, raw cocoa, woodsmoke, Rutherford Dust and cedar. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and very, very pure, with a rock solid core of sappy fruit, beautiful complexity, a very generous attack, impeccable focus and balance and stunning length and grip on the ripely tannic and perfectly poised finish. This tastes as if it could be a young release of the 1975 or 1978, it is that classic in size and shape, despite ...Read More »

2005 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Robert Mondavi "Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP, 94W&S, 94WE, 93VN, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is a beautiful 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve from Mondavi. The wine, a blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc, has a youthful, opaque bluish/purple color and a classic nose of lead pencil shavings, crème de cassis, licorice, and subtle, toasty French oak. Some chocolate also makes an appearance. Approachable, this full-bodied, beautifully concentrated and handsome Cabernet Sauvignon strikes me as one of the superb efforts the Mondavi Winery has produced, and should age effortlessly for another 20+ years. Given the bevy of $200+ Napa Cabernets these days, at $135.00, this is not a best buy, but it’s certainly a compelling price point, given this stunner. Drink it over the next 20 years. P.S. Once again, the vintage’s incredible freshness, vibrancy and precision are well displayed in this wine and, as I have indica

2005 Winter Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2005 Winter Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon may be even better than the 2004. A striking, inky/ruby/purple color offers up notes of black currants, licorice, graphite, forest floor, and spice box. Flawlessly constructed with sweet tannin, good acidity, and superb purity, this is a tour de force in winemaking. (RP) 95+" (12/2007)

2005 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Chateau Montelena "Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (95RP, 92VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Deep garnet in color, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate leaps from the glass with notes of crushed blackberries, black cherries and Bing cherries with hints of raspberry leaves, bay leaves and underbrush plus a waft of pencil shavings. Medium-bodied, nicely poised, very fresh and beautifully elegant, it has a solid frame of very fine-grained tannins and a very long, berry-laced finish. Still incredibly youthful. (LPB)" (02/2018)

Of the 2005 Anderson's Conn Valley "Eloge" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 2005 Eloge is a staggering wine that is utterly profound. Its extraordinary aromas of incense, cedar wood, creme de cassis, kirsch, spice box, and gamey smokiness as well as forest floor make for one of the most complex wines I smelled over the two weeks I spent in Napa. Full-bodied flavors are followed by a wine with sweet tannins, beautifully deep, concentrated layered fruit flavors, and a long, heady finish. This is gorgeous stuff that should evolve nicely for 15 or more years. (RP)" (12/2008)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Shafer "Hillside Select" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 95WS, 94JS, 94VN, 94W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the world’s great wines and profound expressions of Cabernet Sauvignon, is the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select. This wine spends more than 30 months in 100% new oak, and, year in year out, has been one of the most singular and profound examples of Cabernet Sauvignon in the world. It seems Shafer began to ratchet up performance during the 1990s, and the first decade of the 21st century has provided a treasure trove of either perfect or nearly perfect wines, including the 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2007 and more recently the 2010, 2012 and, in all likelihood, the 2013. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select (about 2,000 cases produced) is another one of those 'wow' wines, but it does it with a sort of measured richness and restraint and extraordinary subtle character, like the Gary Cooper of Napa Cabernet Sauvig

2005 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Fay" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Fay" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91CG). Connoisseurs Guide: "The mildly leathery, coffee and loamy earth traits that mark all of the SLWC siblings is again evident here, but this wine conveys a bit more fruity depth and thus moves to the head of the clan. Fairly full-bodied and pleasantly supple in feel, it is at once both accessible and rather deep, and, if it has tannins in place for five years of growth, it is already inviting and will partner nicely with savory meats in the mid-term. Lacking the bombast of the bigger wines in this review, the SLWC Fay offering makes it way with balance and richness." (04/2009)

2005 Robert Foley Napa Valley Claret

93 points Vinous: "Saturated bright ruby color. Liqueur-like aromas of black cherry, raspberry and mocha; high-toned in a positive way. A sweet, powerful fruit bomb on the palate, with perfectly integrated acidity giving shape and grip to the dark berry and cherry flavors. Firm underlying minerality contributes to the wine's very fresh impression. Finishes with terrific aromatic persistence. (ST)" (5/2008) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A gorgeous nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers, and sweet black cherries emerges from the full-bodied, opulent 2005 Claret. 2005 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2005 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (94RP, 94ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This iconic wine, consistently made since it was first released in 1979 by Randy Dunn, is always aged 30 months in barrel and then an additional six months in bottle prior to being released. It is always 100% Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon. Randy Dunn is one of the first advocates of alcohol levels under 14%. (This one is listed at 13.8%.) I just can’t comprehend the obsession and polemics about alcohol. Unless the wine lacks balance and character, it is rarely even a legitimate issue. Anything between 12.5% and 15.5%-16% can work well, and even some higher ones seem to carry their alcohol extraordinarily well, especially if they are made from grapes such as Zinfandel or Grenache. Dense purple in color and still looking like a barrel sample, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain has a nice, cedary, new saddle leather-infused blackcurrant richness, outstandin

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma-Napa Counties Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 95VN, 94WE, 93WS, 92CG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Almost as impressive is the 2005 Cabernet Reserve, a blend of 95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4.5 % Petit Verdot, in this case sourced 58% from Sonoma County and 42% from Napa. Its 14.5% alcohol is slightly lower than its sibling’s. This full-bodied wine is very concentrated, with a saturated bluish/purple color and a classic nose of mocha and espresso intermixed with crème de cassis and charcoal. The finish is a good 40-45 seconds, and the wine has a remarkable vibrancy and freshness from the vintage’s acidity. This is terrific stuff to drink now and over the next 12-15 years. 2005 Revana St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Slightly more concentrated, but at the same time more reserved and backward, is the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep plum/purple in color with a sweet nose of burning embers, charcoal, black currants, and some subtle smoked herbs, the wine again displays terrific aromatic complexity and a full-bodied, nicely layered palate impression, with integrated acidity, tannin, alcohol, and wood. It is a slightly deeper, richer wine than the 2004, and the tannins seem slightly more elevated, but this wine has great balance, and just needs 1-2 years of bottle age. It s ...Read More »

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 98RP, 97VN, 96JS, 95WE, 94DC, 94WS) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Its bigger brother, or sister, depending on the point of view, is the extremely young, fresh, vigorous, yet still exuberant and promising 2005 Harlan Estate. Normally, the blends on these wines tend to be 85%-90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest tiny proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and possibly some Petit Verdot, although I don’t recall that being a very important part of the estate vineyard. The 2005 is incredibly youthful at age ten, although certainly drinkable. And who wouldn’t consume it if they had the opportunity? It will benefit from another 5-10 years of cellaring and certainly has 30 or more years left in its evolutionary curve. Gorgeous, and tasting akin to a hypothetical Pauillac blended with a great Pessac-Léognan from Bordeaux comes to mind because of the smoky, subtle barbecue notes, fruitcake, forest

Of the 2005 Ramey "Pedregal" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "Readers looking for a Screaming Eagle look-alike should check out David Ramey’s 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal (85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Petit Verdot), a wine that has put on amazing richness and intensity since last year. Beautifully pure creme de cassis fruit interwoven with notions of spring flowers, espresso roast, and truffles jump from the glass of this wine. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Claret (98RP, 95CG, 93WE, 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This winery, sitting high atop Spring Mountain traversing both the Napa and Sonoma counties, has offered their two top cuvées in 2005 for this retrospective. The 2005 Proprietary Red Reserve Claret, sourced from both Napa and Sonoma, is a blend of 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers a moonless, black-of-night color and notes of black truffle and burning embers, whiffs of charcoal, blackberry and cassis, and touches of chocolate and coffee. This stunningly complex, opulent, full-bodied wine seems to have approached its peak of maturity, where it should easily rest for another decade or more. With perfect concentration and a skyscraper-like palate feel with no heaviness, this wine (14.8% natural alcohol) is simply compelling in all senses. It is a fabulous effort and a great tribute to Napa/Sonoma viticulture. (RP)" (06/2015)

2005 Kongsgaard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The debut vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2005, has turned out beautifully. Made from fruit grown in David Abreu’s vineyards, this Cabernet Sauvignon (which includes tiny amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot) comes from three distinct vineyards, one above Dalla Valle, and two on the back streets of St. Helena. Noble sweet tannins are noticeable, and the wine displays a restrained use of oak (100% new French barrels were utilized), beautiful purity, a multi-dimensional texture, and a savory, long, classic finish. Extraordinary aromatics consisting of blueberry liqueur, white flowers, licorice, spice and incense are all present in this profound, multi-layered, full-bodied wine with remarkable purity and precision. 2005 Levy & McClellan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A limited production of a very powerful and massive wine from two of California’s most famous winemaking gurus, Bob Levy and Martha McClellan, this wine remains primordial and backward, especially for a 2005. Loads of graphite notes interwoven with cassis, new saddle leather, blackberry and earth are impressive. It may sound unusual, but what came to mind is tasting some of the more recent vintages of Château Montrose in St.-Estèphe in Bordeaux. This wine still needs another 5-6 years of cellaring easily. Bid on this magnum of 2005 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC - 100RP) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Sparky (only available in magnums) is the highest in alcohol (14.8%) and, again, was aged in 100% new Darnajou barrels. This is just magnificent and at age ten, tasting like it was four to five years of age. Of course, tasting from magnum contributed somewhat to that, but it’s a great, great example of the Schrader’s favorite cuvée, hence the name. It is predominantly made from Clone 6, with small amounts of Clones 4 and 337. Like all these wines, it has an inky purple color, with notes of licorice, forest floor, graphite, cedar wood and creme de cassis and new saddle leather. Voluptuously textured, expansive, savory and full-bodied, with super-sweet tannins and a finish that goes on for close to a minute, this is a prodigious wine and one of the superstars of the vintage. The winery has considerable history, having been founded in 1885 and then abandoned in 1919 with the beginning of Prohibition. Far Niente possesses one of the great labels in Napa Valley and the wine clearly lives up to the aesthetic beauty of the packaging. Dense purple, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Cave Collection offers beautifully pure crème de cassis fruit, licorice, graphite and subtle spice box.
