2005 Spring Mountain Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* This complex, young wine needs time. It's tannic and closed, although it has a rich heart of black currants, spice and minerals, accented by nearly 2 years in oak. Nowhere near ready, but an elegant example of classic Napa mountain Cab. Should start to be approachable after 2010." (6/2009)

2005 Beaulieu Vineyard "Tapestry Reserve" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

92 points Wine & Spirits: "With the chocolate richness of new oak and the density that has come to define modern Napa Valley’s reds, this wine is still vinous, giving a more classical sense of Cabernet. The structure is tight, the scents of violets, cedar and black olive adding to that traditional impression. It smells earthy, like a vineyard. To decant several hours before roasting venison with blueberries and wild mushrooms." (12/2008) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A blend of all five Bordeaux varieties, the ’05 Tapestry is a soft, rich wine. 2005 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A nose of black raspberries interwoven with floral notes of blackcurrants and spice jump from the glass of this dense ruby/plum/purple wine. This famous vineyard at the northern end of Napa Valley, which in this era was owned by Bart and Daphne Araujo (today owned by François Pinault, the proprietor of Château Latour), can certainly make the argument that it’s one of the first growths of Napa Valley. Sweet, velvety tannin, medium to full body, and extraordinary complexity and elegance characterize this wine, which is seamless and drinking beautifully. Wh ...Read More »

2005 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Much too young now, however tempting. Should only get much better. (JL)" (11/2011) K&L Notes: Martha's Vineyards has become one of the most well known Cabernets around the world for its unique mintiness, its rich layers of complexity and its remarkable overall balance. Round, plump, and hedonistic, it should drink well for a decade. 2005 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 96WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for one of the wines of the vintage, this stunning 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from Rutherford includes in its blend some of the oldest Cabernet vines in existence in Napa Valley. It tips the scales at a lofty 15.4% alcohol, but believe it or not, it is strikingly elegant and pure, with laser-like precision. Inky, dark ruby/purple, with a stunning nose of forest floor, creme de cassis and a subtle, earthy minerality, the wine is built like a skyscraper, with a multidimensional mouthfeel and incredible complexity and richness, yet it never comes close to tasting heavy or overwrought. This is just a great terroir, great winemaking, and the results are profound. It seems to be drinkable now, but is capable of at least another 10-20 years of full-throttle pleasure. This is a superstar and a remarkable effort. Bravo! (RP) " (06/2015)

Full-bodied, with great power, richness, and sensational length, this wine will benefit from 4-5 years of bottle-age and last three decades. (RP)" (12/2007) 96 points Wine Spectator: "*Top 100 of 2008 #95* Superrich, smooth and creamy. 2005 Aubert "Lucia Abreu Vineyard" Howell Mountain Bordeaux Blend

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Proprietary Red Lucia Abreu Vineyard seems to have closed down since I tasted it last year even though it is still not in bottle. A blend of 47% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, the wine has a dense ruby/purple color, wonderful purity, but jagged tannins and some austerity kept my score from going any higher. It exhibits more texture than last year, but I suspect I caught it on a bad day, and I will reevaluate it in 12 months. (RP)" (12/2007) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright ruby. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Vecina is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged in 100% new oak, like the other cuvées. It is from an 11-acre site directly southeast of the Bond Winery, close to Harlan Estate. This wine tends to be the closest to the Harlan Estate in quality, with notes of new saddle leather, blackberry, roasted coffee and a hint of chocolate -- and again -- graphite and subtle smoke. Opaque purple, but still incredibly youthful, the wine is spicy, intense, full-bodied and majestic. There is a deep tone to this massive Cabernet Sauvignon, which is set for another 25 or 30 years of life, although it certainly is accessible at present. (RP)" (06/2015)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Bond "Pluribus" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98RP, 95ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Pluribus is from a relatively high-elevation vineyard on the steep slopes of Spring Mountain and planted in the white Tufa volcanic bedrock of that area. This is the most northern vineyard of the Bond Estates, and this wine was just incredible. By far, the biggest, most backward and massive of all the 2005s, this wine behaved as if it were three or four years old, rather than ten. Dense purple, it offers notes of blueberry liqueur, St.-Estèphe-like earth, licorice and a gravelly note with incredible depth, lots of blackberries, and a finish that goes on for 45+ seconds. This is incredibly youthful and dominated by the blue and black fruits that are so much a part of the Spring Mountain AVA. This wine needs another 3-4 years of cellaring and should keep for 30-40+ years and turn out to be a fabulous classic from Bond Estate. (RP)" (0

It had a 44-day maceration before the wine was aged 19 months in 90% new French oak. This wine performed better at ten years than it did initially. Dense ruby/purple to the rim, with the classic Pauillac-like nose of creme de cassis, cedar wood, a hint of tobacco leaf, and very subtle smoke, the wine displays charcoal and roasted herbs, full-bodied power, wonderfully sweet tannins, and a long, long finish. By Montelena standards, it is a bit more powerful than usual (14.1% alcohol). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Almost as impressive is the 2005 Cabernet Reserve, a blend of 95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4.5 % Petit Verdot, in this case sourced 58% from Sonoma County and 42% from Napa. Its 14.5% alcohol is slightly lower than its sibling’s. This full-bodied wine is very concentrated, with a saturated bluish/purple color and a classic nose of mocha and espresso intermixed with crème de cassis and charcoal. The finish is a good 40-45 seconds, and the wine has a remarkable vibrancy and freshness from the vintage’s acidity. 2005 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Its bigger brother, or sister, depending on the point of view, is the extremely young, fresh, vigorous, yet still exuberant and promising 2005 Harlan Estate. Normally, the blends on these wines tend to be 85%-90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest tiny proportions of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and possibly some Petit Verdot, although I don’t recall that being a very important part of the estate vineyard.
