2012 Abreu "Cappella" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

100 points James Suckling: "A beautiful and fresh red with flowers and blue fruits along with raspberries and blackberries. Full body, ultra-fine tannins, and wonderful length. Finesse. Fine-grained. Harmony and balance. Sexy and very, very beautiful. Magic and seamless." (9/2016) 96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cappella, probably has less Cabernet Franc than his other cuvées but at least 25-30%. This wine has closed down since I had it from barrel last year, but that probably reflects more on its post-bottling dormancy. A wine of great character and class, with notes of charcoal, incense, blackberry, choc ...Read More »

2010 Abreu "Cappella" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Cappella, ( 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot) reveals a dense purple color, and even greater aromatic and flavor dimensions than the 2009. Notes of sweet creme de cassis, coffee bean, graphite, white chocolate and forest floor are followed by an intense, full-bodied, luxuriously textured wine that has plenty of tannin, but it is sweet and enrobed by sumptuous fruit and glycerin. This fabulous 2010 is one of the superstars of the vintage. It should continue to evolve for 25-30 years. As a set of win ...Read More »

2011 Abreu "Las Posadas" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (Previously $400)

About the producer: "Growing up, Napa Valley was David Abreu's playground as well as his classroom. Born into a family of ranchers, he spent the better part of his youth working in Napa's original vineyards. Over time, David's sense of what makes a site stand out—why one vineyard makes great wine and another's is just good—was sharpened beyond the ordinary. Eventually, intuition and experience led him to four exceptional vineyard properties: Madrona Ranch, Cappella, Las Posadas, and Thorevilos. He planned and planted each one. And with an uncompromising—... Read More »

2004 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The youthful dark ruby/purple-colored 2004 Madrona Ranch(500 cases produced) reveals a slight touch of lightening at the edge along with beautiful blueberry, black currant and floral notes. The enticing entry is followed by a medium to full-bodied, lush, opulent, Pomerol-inspired wine (despite the fact it is dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc rather than Merlot). There is enough stuffing in this 2004 to hold it for another decade. (RP)" (04/2014)

2010 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Madrona Ranch, which David Abreu told me he crop-thinned by at least 50%, is a more backward, tannic, brooding wine at present. An inky/purple color and lots of baking spice, espresso, black and blue fruits, and hints of graphite and toast emerge from this wine as well as formidable tannins in the finish. However, the tannins are sweet and well-integrated in this big, blockbuster effort. It will require patience by purchasers as it needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years; it will drink well over the following three decades. As a set of wines, it is ...Read More »

2011 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From the back hills of St. Helena, in the direction of Spring Mountain, comes Abreu’s first single-vineyard offering from vineyards planted in 1982, the Madrona Ranch. This cuvée usually contains at least 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and one of the highest percentages of Cabernet Franc, ranging from 33% to 45%. Tiny quantities of Petit Verdot and Merlot are also added, depending on how they fared in any given vintage. There is more tannin in the unusually austere finish, but the wine is remarkably complex, and should be exceptionally long-lived. (RP)" (08/2002)

(JL, Web-1999)" 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The impressively rich, dense purple-colored 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon Madrona Vineyard exhibits a blueberry/blackberry/cassis-scented nose, with a touch of violets and subtle new oak. In the mouth, the wine has disguised its tannic clout with extraordinary extraction of fruit, medium to full body, and a silky yet powerful personality. 2013 Abreu "Rothwell Hyde" St. Helena Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2013 Abreu "Rothwell Hyde" St. Helena Bordeaux Blend (OWC - 93VN, 92RP) in original wood. Vinous: "The 2013 Rothwell Hyde is the hidden gem in this lineup from Abreu. Made from a selection of fruit that does not go into the single-vineyard wines, the Rothwell Hyde captures all of the Abreu signatures in a more approachable style that also comes with an relatively accessible price tag by Napa Valley standards. Scents of graphite, charcoal and inky blue-ish fruits infuse this super-expressive, inviting wine. Readers who can find the 2013 Rothwell Hyde should not hesitate, as it is terrific. Once again, winemaker Brad Grimes poured the Rothwell Hyde at the end of our tasting, after all the other wines. It did certainly did not suffer in comparison to the other wines, to say the least. If anything, the slightly lower level of intensity in the various lots has resulted in a wine that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring, which is a rarity here. The 2013 is a tot

2010 Abreu "Thorevilos" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

98 points Vinous: "David Abreu's 2010 Thorevilos stands apart from all of the other wines in this range for its massive, inky concentration. It is also the last of these wines to be released, which may explain its intense power. A host of graphite, smoke, incense, tobacco, spice and black fruit gradually open up, but the 2010 is a wine for the future. I won't touch another bottle until at least age ten, even though that is almost certainly not going to be enough time to find the wine at its peak of expression. With unbelievable intensity, a great, full-bodied mouthfeel, stunning purity, a subtle hint of wood, but no hard edges, this is one 2009 that does not have that broodingly tannic structure that is common in this vintage.
