2013 12 Gauge California Cabernet Sauvignon

Cab with unfussy pricing and full flavor from three Napa Valley guys who explain the brand's premise like this: "The wine world can be a bit bewildering for people who spend their free time sneaking around in camouflage. But even a wild man deserves the finer things in life. Gauge Wine is for that man. Perfect for anything retired by shotgun or rifle."

2011 Abreu "Cappella" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Finally in the bottle, the 2011 Proprietary Red Cappella is showing even better than it did from barrel last year (a common occurrence at Abreu). The 2011, which includes more Merlot than usual because of the cold growing season, reveals terrific notes of espresso roast, chocolate, forest floor, incense, and blackberry and cassis fruit. This broad, round effort is an opulent, fruit-forward, supple, luscious wine that should drink well for 10-15 years. (RP)" (10/2014) 94 points Vinous: "The 2011 Cappella is about as soft and approachable a young Abreu wine as readers will com ...Read More »

2011 Abreu "Las Posadas" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (Previously $400)

About the producer: "Growing up, Napa Valley was David Abreu's playground as well as his classroom. Born into a family of ranchers, he spent the better part of his youth working in Napa's original vineyards. Over time, David's sense of what makes a site stand out—why one vineyard makes great wine and another's is just good—was sharpened beyond the ordinary. Eventually, intuition and experience led him to four exceptional vineyard properties: Madrona Ranch, Cappella, Las Posadas, and Thorevilos. He planned and planted each one. And with an uncompromising—... Read More »

1999 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Madrona Ranch (90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Merlot) exhibits a saturated purple color in addition to a gorgeous bouquet of espresso beans intermixed with licorice, incense, blueberries and blackberries. There is more tannin in the unusually austere finish, but the wine is remarkably complex, and should be exceptionally long-lived. There are 500 cases of this beauty, which should be at its finest between 2006-2025. (RP)" (8/2002) K&L Notes: Abreu Winery was established by David Abreu of Rutherford, and began releasing w... 2010 Abreu "Madrona Ranch" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Madrona Ranch, which David Abreu told me he crop-thinned by at least 50%, is a more backward, tannic, brooding wine at present. An inky/purple color and lots of baking spice, espresso, black and blue fruits, and hints of graphite and toast emerge from this wine as well as formidable tannins in the finish. However, the tannins are sweet and well-integrated in this big, blockbuster effort. It will require patience by purchasers as it needs to be forgotten for 4-5 years; it will drink well over the following three decades. As a set of wines, it is ...Read More »

2011 Abreu "Rothwell Hyde" St. Helena Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Abreu "Rothwell Hyde" St. Helena Bordeaux Blend. Robert Parker marvels about Abreu's 2011s: "The work that the famous viticulturist and wine producer David Abreu does, along with his assistant Brad Grimes, is at the top of the qualitative hierarchy in California, if not the entire world. His four vineyards produce ravishing wines of great richness, complexity and aging potential. Even in vintages where others might stumble, such as 2011, somehow Abreu’s magic in the vineyard translates into wines of fabulous intensity and compelling quality in the bottle."

2012 Abreu "Rothwell Hyde" St. Helena Bordeaux Blend

The 2012, which is in bottle, offers loads of cedar wood, black chocolate and coffee as well as hints of underbrush, forest floor, blackcurrants and black cherries. It is delicious, densely colored, and dramatic, even flamboyant. Drink it over the next 15+ years. 2001 Abreu "Thorevilos" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Thorevilos is another example of what may well be Napa Valley’s version of Ausone, and one of the single greatest vineyard sites in California. One could say this is world-class, but it’s really all-universe. A tour de force in winemaking, with notes of blueberry liqueur intermixed with subtle white chocolate, espresso roast, cassis, blackberry and perfumed, floral notes, it is full-bodied, with great flavor purity, a skyscraper-like texture, and a remarkable finish, with a seamless integration of all component parts. Grilled herbs, cedar, tobacco, cloves and licorice add dimensions of nuance to a dark, sumptuous wine endowed with striking balance and pure class. (AG)" (12/2014) 94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another superstar of the vintage is the 2011 Thorevilos. The tannins are quite firm and suggest the 2008 will require considerable patience. Readers who can wait will be treated to a superb wine. Françoise Peschon is the winemaker, Michel Rolland the oenologist. Polished. The winery that bought the rest of the grapes kept them on the vine for another three weeks! Very long. Drink 2018-2030." 2006 Ackerman Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wine of the Week, St. Helena Star: "This 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon is all Coombsville: expressive, complex fruit and fresh acidity. While this vintage sports a Napa Valley price tag, it is one of those wines that is worth it for a special occasion. If you have a bottle or more in your cellar already, it should continue to age nicely as well. The wine has black cherry fruit with integrated spice and vanilla flavors built on a balanced structure with refreshing acidity." (July 21, 2014)

There is lovely purity and finesse to be found in this generous, inviting wine. The firm 2008 tannin that marks so many wines in this vintage is nowhere to be found. I suppose there is no substitute for working many of the best vineyards in Napa Valley. This is a terrific showing. 2013 Adelaida "Viking Estate Vineyard" Adelaida District Bordeaux Blend

90 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Adelaida's Viking bottling is a Bordeaux blend that very much reflects its maker's preference for wines of ripeness and richness, but, even while a very full and substantial offering, it follows the lead of its mates in being nicely balanced for the big wine that it is. It deftly marries plentiful black cherry fruit with notes of briary spice, milk chocolate and a well-considered complement of sweet oak, and its fruity message is clear and continuous even as nominal tannin and a touch of heat appear at the finish." It is a dark, powerful wine bursting with plums, espresso, mocha, sweet French oak and licorice, all of which come together in a powerful, virile style. Layers of black fruit build effortlessly towards the opulent, caressing finish. Despite the wine’s richness, there is excellent underlying structure. Some of the early Château St. Jean Cabernet Sauvignons have stood the test of time, and those made under the Arrowood label, especially his Reserves, are 30+ year wines at the minimum. 1998 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
1998 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard was bottled earlier than usual as this vintage is not as massive or concentrated as its predecessors. To my palate, the 1998 is good, although I am not convinced it will be long lived. There are 2,300 cases of this 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Petit-Verdot, and 3% Cabernet Franc blend. It is supple and elegant, with a complex, evolved bouquet of smoke, black currants, spice box, and cedar. In the mouth, the wine is forward with sweet tannin, gorgeously rich, concentrated fruit, and impressively integrated acidity ...Read More »

2005 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 95ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A nose of black raspberries interwoven with floral notes of blackcurrants and spice jump from the glass of this dense ruby/plum/purple wine. This famous vineyard at the northern end of Napa Valley, which in this era was owned by Bart and Daphne Araujo (today owned by François Pinault, the proprietor of Château Latour), can certainly make the argument that it’s one of the first growths of Napa Valley. Sweet, velvety tannin, medium to full body, and extraordinary complexity and elegance characterize this wine, which is seamless and drinking beautifully. While not one of their longest-lived vintages, the balance and purity suggest that, while it may be entering its fully mature stage, it certainly can keep going for another 10-15 years. The finish is easily 40 seconds-plus. (RP)" (06/2015)

2011 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points James Suckling: "*Top 100 Wines of 2014* Compelling aromas of black fruits such as brambleberries, plus blueberries and fresh mushrooms. Asphalt, too. Forest fruits. The tannins just melt into the wine as you taste it. Aristocratic and regal in style and length. A powdery, fascinating texture. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink now, but better in 2017." (5/2014) 96 points Vinous: "Araujo has long made some of the more restrained Cabernets in Napa Valley. The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard is one of the more Left Bank inflected wines in the estate's distinguished history. Beauti ...Read More »

2012 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points James Suckling: "The aromas to this wine are very complex and brooding with blackcurrants, sage and spearmint. Souis bois and wet earth then turn to black fruits. Entrancing nose. This is full-bodied, yet tight and focused with compressed tannins and a long finish. Very intense volcanic sea salt to the wines. A much more subtle and mind-provoking style." (7/2015) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, is a relatively powerful statement from the new owners. Dense ruby/purple in color, with an exceptional nose of crème de cassis, a touch of mul ...Read More »

1999 Araujo "Eisele Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (3L)

97 points Wine Spectator: "Rich, earthy, decadent aromas are intense and enormously concentrated, with sharply focused, currant, pencil lead, mineral, sage and dusty berry flavors that offer uncommon depth and concentration. Finishes with an amazingly long and detailed aftertaste. Should be a 20-year wine, with ease. Best from 2006 through 2019. (JL)" (11/2002) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard (a 1,750-case blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, and 3% Merlot) boasts explosive aromas of incense, creme de cassis, minerals, and flowers. 2010 Araujo "Eisele" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Araujo’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Eisele Vineyard is a picture perfect example of the year. Vibrant, precise and beautifully chiseled, the 2010 boasts serious depth and concentration. The aromas and flavors are incredibly vivid in this textured, dazzling Cabernet Sauvignon. Hints of dark blue and black fruit, mocha, espresso and grilled herbs flesh out on the huge finish. Today the 2010 is unusually open, but it is almost certain to shut down in bottle over the next 6-12 months. The 2010 is a super-classic Eisele Cabernet Sauvignon from Araujo.
