2005 Heitz Cellar "Trailside Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Wine Spectator: "This fine new release, with some bottle age, shows signs of subtle maturity. Aromas of mocha, cedar, dried currant and spice box follow through to a full body, This is well-built, with fine balance and good length. (Web-2011)" K&L Notes: In the early 1980s, the Heitz Family acquired a marvelous Rutherford vineyard bordered on one side by the Silverado Trail and nudged on the other by the Conn Creek. Thus the Trailside Vineyard was born. Aged for three-and-a-half years in a combination of American and French Limousin oak, the 2005 is elegantly perfumed to complement a... Read More »

2005 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Spectator: "Minty bay leaf aromas are pure, with a spicy edge, leading to firm dark berry, mocha, mineral and sage flavors that are tight and well-structured, with firm, ripe tannins that provide an excellent backbone. Much too young now, however tempting. Should only get much better. Best from 2013 through 2022. (JL)" (11/2011) K&L Notes: Martha's Vineyards has become one of the most well known Cabernets around the world for its unique mintiness, its rich layers of complexity and its remarkable overall balance. The 2005 growing season enjoyed almost perfect weather conditions t... Read More »

2005 Spring Mountain Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* This complex, young wine needs time. It's tannic and closed, although it has a rich heart of black currants, spice and minerals, accented by nearly 2 years in oak. Nowhere near ready, but an elegant example of classic Napa mountain Cab. Should start to be approachable after 2010." (6/2009)

2005 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The blend that Colgin fashions from three vineyards owned by David Abreu (Madrona, Thorevilos and Howell Mountain) is called Cariad. The 2005 Proprietary Red Cariad consists of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot. Offering up spring flowers and garden aromas, sweet blueberry and black raspberry fruit, a touch of charcoal embers, graphite and background toast, it is fleshy and full-bodied, and again, meriting a three-digit score. This is absolutely remarkable wine. As it sat in the glass, it developed some rather com ...Read More »

2005 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Colgin "Cariad" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100RP, 97VN, 95WE, 94JS, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The blend that Colgin fashions from three vineyards owned by David Abreu (Madrona, Thorevilos and Howell Mountain) is called Cariad. As it sat in the glass, it developed some rather compelling chocolaty, licorice undertones. This is a great classic to drink over the next 20-25 years. By the way, for those interested, the cooperage generally chosen is dominated by Taransaud barrels, but there are at least four different coopers. (RP)" (06/2015)

2005 Bond "Matriarch" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Bond "Matriarch" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (98WE, 92RP, 92ST, 90WS). Wine Enthusiast: "This year’s Matriarch is very similar to Harlan Estate in structure, and in some ways, a superior wine, or at least more delicious now. Shows the most beautiful black currant, cedar, blueberry pie and Asian spice flavors. What makes the structure so gorgeous are the firm tannins. Ultimately, it’s a refined, exquisite red wine. Hard to imagine a better one for drinking over the next decade, and just shows that price sometimes has no relationship to quality." (05/2009)

2005 Chateau Montelena Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The winery continues to turn out a strong Cabernet Sauvignon from vineyards in the Calistoga area. This is a big production item (10,000 cases), and tends to be a good value for a high-class Napa Cabernet. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (22,000 cases) is a beauty. Savory black currant fruit notes intermixed with some licorice, underbrush, and spice jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, smoothly textured, beautifully elegant wine meant to be served and drunk in its first 10-12 years of life. This clearly has the fingerprints of Chateau Montelena ...Read More »

2005 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beringer’s 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve comes from the top selection from all their different holdings, with each vineyard aged separately for close to two years, then blended for quality. This blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc is a gorgeous example of the Private Reserve. Of course, it probably suffers from the fact that Beringer is part of a gigantic international conglomerate, but this is just a stunning wine – inky purple, with plenty of cassis, a hint of espresso, subtle background oak and forest notes. The color is op ...Read More »

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Pride Mountain Napa-Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon (92RP, 92WE, 90ST, 90VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (58% from Napa and 42% from Sonoma) possesses a full-bodied mouthfeel as well as loads of cassis fruit, and smoky, subtle oak in the background. Round, plump, and hedonistic, it should drink well for a decade. (RP)" (12/2007)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Cliff Lede Vineyards "Poetry" Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 95RP, 90VN) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Poetry (925 cases of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Malbec, and the rest Petit Verdot and Merlot) is the richest of these wines. Superbly deep ruby/purple-colored with notes of blackberry, cassis, licorice, subtle smoke, and incense, this opulent wine has a plush palate, silky tannins, impressive purity, stature, and length. However, the tannins are there and the wine still tastes primary despite its enormous potential. (RP)" (12/2007)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Lastly, the 2005 Proprietary Red IX Estate, from one of the most strikingly beautiful vineyards in all of Napa, high on Pritchard Hill overlooking Lake Hennessey, is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 21% Merlot and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Inky purple with a provocative and profound bouquet of graphite, white flowers, cassis and blackberry as well as hints of coffee and chocolate, this full-bodied classic has perfect balance, undeniable purity and a long finish. 2005 Lokoya Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Lokoya Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "It is almost becoming routine to give a three-digit score to Lokoya’s Cabernet Sauvignons from Mount Veeder. They just seem to hit every sweet spot on my palate, and the 2005 is a compelling effort. The prodigious 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Mount Veeder is still a baby at age ten. Inky purple, the wine exhibits notes of graphite, roast meat, forest floor, crème de cassis and blackberry liqueur with touches of asphalt and charcoal. It is full-bodied, ripe and extraordinarily pure and intense, with wonderfully sweet, integrated tannin and wood. This wine, ideally, needs another 5-6 years cellaring, since it’s still so young. It will last 30 years, and should turn out to be one of the most compelling superstars of this underrated but very impressive vintage. (RP)" (06/2015)
