2005 Far Niente Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* A fantastic Cabernet that stuns now for authenticity and power, and should develop for many years. Despite the large production, lower than that of many first growth Bordeaux, the wine, which has tiny amounts of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot, shows classic Oakville elegance and precision. Rich in black currants, blackberries, cherries and dark chocolate, it should hit its stride from 2011 through 2017." (12/2008) 90 points Wine & Spirits: "A textural pleasure, this is a dense, supple cabernet built for steak. As a young wine, the flavors are mainly from the tannin, w ...Read More »

2005 Faust Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (Previously $50.00)

92 points Wine Enthusiast: "A very good Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux blend from Agustin Huneeus. While it would not be true to say it's a second wine of Quintessa, it does show the balance and integrity of that bottling, with a firm structure and dramatically layered black currant, mineral and cedar flavors. Will undoubtably age." (12/2008) Connoisseurs Guide: "Putting its ripe currant fruit to good use as the focus of its rich, outgoing aromas, this wine is full and supple on entry and firm across the palate with tannins for backbone and deep, slightly chocolate-tinged fruit showing the way in the ...Read More »

2005 Pride Mountain Napa-Sonoma Counties Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The deep ruby/purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon (58% from Napa and 42% from Sonoma) possesses a full-bodied mouthfeel as well as loads of cassis fruit, and smoky, subtle oak in the background. Round, plump, and hedonistic, it should drink well for a decade. (RP)" (12/2007) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* A big, juicy young Cab that impresses for sheer flashiness, yet needs some time for its edges to soften. The ripe blackberry and cassis fruit is deep and generous, with nuances of smoky oak and sweet herbs. But the tannins are very strong and astringent. Needs cel ...Read More »

2005 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Claret
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Pride Mountain "Reserve" Sonoma/Napa Counties Claret (98RP, 95CG, 93WE, 92ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This winery, sitting high atop Spring Mountain traversing both the Napa and Sonoma counties, has offered their two top cuvées in 2005 for this retrospective. The 2005 Proprietary Red Reserve Claret, sourced from both Napa and Sonoma, is a blend of 67% Merlot and 33% Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers a moonless, black-of-night color and notes of black truffle and burning embers, whiffs of charcoal, blackberry and cassis, and touches of chocolate and coffee. This stunningly complex, opulent, full-bodied wine seems to have approached its peak of maturity, where it should easily rest for another decade or more. With perfect concentration and a skyscraper-like palate feel with no heaviness, this wine (14.8% natural alcohol) is simply compelling in all senses. It is a fabulous effort and a great tribute to Napa/Sonoma viticulture. (RP)" (06/2015)

2005 D.R. Stephens "Moose Valley Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from D. R. Stephens gets a slightly higher rating largely due to more complexity and better integration of the tannins, which seems to give the wine a more expansive nose, but this is a classic Napa Cabernet, with black fruits, loamy soil notes, a hint of bouquet garni, and lots of spice box and earth. The wine is round and generously constructed, with a full-bodied, supple personality. It should drink nicely for a decade. (RP)" (12/2008)

2005 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beringer’s 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve comes from the top selection from all their different holdings, with each vineyard aged separately for close to two years, then blended for quality. This blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc is a gorgeous example of the Private Reserve. Of course, it probably suffers from the fact that Beringer is part of a gigantic international conglomerate, but this is just a stunning wine – inky purple, with plenty of cassis, a hint of espresso, subtle background oak and forest notes. The color is op ...Read More »

2005 Buccella Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2005 Buccella Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon struts its stuff in an elegant but powerful style, with notes of black fruits, burning embers, roasted meats, and a hint of subtle bay leaf. The wine has terrific fruit concentration, full-bodied power, substantial but ripe tannins, and a long, long finish. This wine should drink nicely for at least two decades. (RP)" (12/2008) 94 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated deep ruby. Deep, enticing aromas of black fruits, bitter chocolate and black cardamom. Lush and creamy-sweet, but with ripe, integrated acidity giving shape to the highly concentrated flavors of ...Read More »

2005 Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Wine Spectator: "A showy young wine that's smooth, rich and concentrated. Delivers firm, intense yet supple layers of currant, cedar, toasty, cedary oak and tannins that firm up, offering hints of mineral, sage and dusty berry." (5/2008) 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "The well-crafted bottling comes up the classier of the winery's two Cabernet bottlings in 2005 and features loads of optimally ripened, blackcurrant fruit set against nicely proportioned oak and a smattering of dusty earth spice. It is fairly full-bodied, very supple in feel and sports a fine spine of integral tannins, and, if built in way ...Read More »

2005 Lewis Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Back In Stock!
2005 Lewis Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Terrific depth and concentration marks this wine as a star from the very first sniff, and everything about its deeply fruited, cherry and currant aromas, its supple, slightly fleshy, tannin-balanced palatal impressions and its long, youthfully tough but deliciously promising finish confirms its quality. Wines like this can be very good when young, but this one has so much room to grow that it needs to be allowed the opportunity to mature into a richer, rounder bottling over the next decade." Ends with a full, long, expansive aftertaste that echoes the berry and licorice details. Tannins grip the finish.—2005 California Cabernet blind retrospective (September 2015). Drink now through 2022. (JL, Web-2015)" 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good deep Ruby-red. Slightly high-toned aromas of black cherry, menthol and nutty oak. Inky purple with a provocative and profound bouquet of graphite, white flowers, cassis and blackberry as well as hints of coffee and chocolate, this full-bodied classic has perfect balance, undeniable purity and a long finish. 2005 Blankiet "Paradise Hills Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Vineyard (1,200 cases) reveals a chocolatey espresso roast note with mocha, blackberry and cassis, high tannins, but full body, superb concentration, purity, and an almost Graves-like scorched earth character. This wine needs 3-4 years of bottle age, and should last 25-30 years. (RP)" (12/2007) 93 points Vinous: "Deep ruby-red. Distinctly cooler on the nose than the 2004, offering scented aromas of blackberry, violet, bitter chocolate, tobacco and wild herbs, along with a hint of hay and a citrus high note. 2005 Pride Mountain "Vintners Select Cuvée" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The brilliant 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Vintner’s Select boasts copious aromas of lead pencil shavings, spring flowers, blueberries, black raspberries, and cassis. Full-bodied and powerful, this dense ruby/purple-tinged offering is a tour de force in Cabernet Sauvignon. It possesses enough sweet tannin to provide early accessibility, but it should age beautifully for 10-15+ years. (RP)" (12/2007) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full medium ruby. Crushed black fruits, licorice, sandalwood, tobacco and cocoa powder on the nose. 2005 Aubert "Lucia Abreu Vineyard" Howell Mountain Bordeaux Blend

89-91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Proprietary Red Lucia Abreu Vineyard seems to have closed down since I tasted it last year even though it is still not in bottle. A blend of 47% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc, the wine has a dense ruby/purple color, wonderful purity, but jagged tannins and some austerity kept my score from going any higher. It exhibits more texture than last year, but I suspect I caught it on a bad day, and I will reevaluate it in 12 months. (RP)" (12/2007) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright ruby. Superripe notes of musky mocha and maple syrup. Then tight a ...Read More »

2005 Levy & McClellan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A limited production of a very powerful and massive wine from two of California’s most famous winemaking gurus, Bob Levy and Martha McClellan, this wine remains primordial and backward, especially for a 2005. Loads of graphite notes interwoven with cassis, new saddle leather, blackberry and earth are impressive. It may sound unusual, but what came to mind is tasting some of the more recent vintages of Château Montrose in St-Estèphe in Bordeaux. This wine still needs another 5-6 years of cellaring easily. This masculine, vigorous, bigger-than-life, full-t ...Read More »

2005 Robert Mondavi Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good saturated ruby-red. Riper on the nose than the Napa Valley offering, with notes of currant and licorice and a whiff of medicinal cherry. Generous and open in the mouth, with a sappy quality to the flavors of cherry, leather and earth. More mid-palate sweetness and flesh here. This is higher-toned than the NV bottling in a positive way. Finishes with substantial broad tannins and lingering notes of smoke and earth. (ST)" (5/2008)

Bid on this 3L-bottle lot of 2005 Kapcsandy Family Winery "State Lane Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (3L) (96RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A 450-case blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, and 6% Cabernet Franc, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon State Lane Vineyard has more in common with a first-growth Pauillac than many people might be willing to admit. Aged 20 months in primarily new French oak, its inky/blue/purple color is followed by an extraordinary bouquet of graphite, cedar wood, creme de cassis, spice box, and incense. The wine is full-bodied with great purity, richness, sweet tannin, concentration, texture, and length. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age, and drink it over the next three decades. " (12/2008)

2005 Schweiger Vineyards "Dedication" Spring Mountain District Bordeaux Blend

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This mountain-grown wine is a Cabernet-based Bordeaux blend. It's bone dry and hard in tannins and not showing well now. There's a big heart of blackberries and currants that should emerge sometime after 2011, after which it could become sweet and mellow." (12/2009)
