2003-2005 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend Vertical

Of the 2004 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend,Wine Enthusiast writes: "Tasted in October, 2007, the wine was mute, offering little aromatically except for teasing notes of blackberries and oak. That shyness extended to the taste, where strong, hard tannins provide an almost impenetrable coat of armor to what’s inside. But right down the middle of the palate is a deep, intensely powerful stream of perfectly ripened cassis that’s all the proof you need of ageability. This is a magnificently structured young wine, reminiscent of a fine young Pauillac. Best afte

2005 Caymus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Wine Spectator: "A showy young wine that's smooth, rich and concentrated. Delivers firm, intense yet supple layers of currant, cedar, toasty, cedary oak and tannins that firm up, offering hints of mineral, sage and dusty berry." (5/2008) 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "The well-crafted bottling comes up the classier of the winery's two Cabernet bottlings in 2005 and features loads of optimally ripened, blackcurrant fruit set against nicely proportioned oak and a smattering of dusty earth spice. It is fairly full-bodied, very supple in feel and sports a fine spine of integral tannins, and, if built in way ...Read More »

2005 Beringer "Private Reserve" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Beringer’s 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Private Reserve comes from the top selection from all their different holdings, with each vineyard aged separately for close to two years, then blended for quality. This blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc is a gorgeous example of the Private Reserve. Of course, it probably suffers from the fact that Beringer is part of a gigantic international conglomerate, but this is just a stunning wine – inky purple, with plenty of cassis, a hint of espresso, subtle background oak and forest notes. The color is op ...Read More »

2005 Levy & McClellan Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A limited production of a very powerful and massive wine from two of California’s most famous winemaking gurus, Bob Levy and Martha McClellan, this wine remains primordial and backward, especially for a 2005. Loads of graphite notes interwoven with cassis, new saddle leather, blackberry and earth are impressive. It may sound unusual, but what came to mind is tasting some of the more recent vintages of Château Montrose in St-Estèphe in Bordeaux. This wine still needs another 5-6 years of cellaring easily. This masculine, vigorous, bigger-than-life, full-t ...Read More »

2005 Blankiet "Paradise Hills Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Paradise Hills Vineyard (1,200 cases) reveals a chocolatey espresso roast note with mocha, blackberry and cassis, high tannins, but full body, superb concentration, purity, and an almost Graves-like scorched earth character. This wine needs 3-4 years of bottle age, and should last 25-30 years. (RP)" (12/2007) 93 points Vinous: "Deep ruby-red. 2005 D.R. Stephens "Moose Valley Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from D. R. Stephens gets a slightly higher rating largely due to more complexity and better integration of the tannins, which seems to give the wine a more expansive nose, but this is a classic Napa Cabernet, with black fruits, loamy soil notes, a hint of bouquet garni, and lots of spice box and earth. The wine is round and generously constructed, with a full-bodied, supple personality. It should drink nicely for a decade. (RP)" (12/2008)

2005 Barnett "Cyrus Ryan" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

93 points Wine Enthusiast: "The wine is enormously ripe, a lip-smackingly fruity 100% Cab that seduces the palate with massive black currant, licorice, sweet date and cedar flavors. Yet it has a tannic astringency that suggests, although it does not require, aging. Should develop well for at least a decade." (6/2008) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Broad-shouldered, intense and concentrated, with a tight, rich band of spicy currant, cedar, hazelnut, sage and herbal scents. Young and tightly wound, this needs time in the cellar or a good decanting. Best from 2011 through 2017. 427 cases made. (JL)" (5/2008)

2005 Spottswoode "Family Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Wine Enthusiast: "Tasted in a big lineup of St. Helena Cabernets, Spottswoode’s magnificent ’05 stood out. It’s a massive powerhouse, explosive in black currant, cherry pie, plum, chocolate, anise and cedar flavors that are detailed and precise. However, the wine, which was blended with a little Cabernet Franc, is graceful and balanced. Drinkable now due to its softly refined tannins, but has the integrity to ride out the years. 2005 Robert Mondavi Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good saturated ruby-red. Riper on the nose than the Napa Valley offering, with notes of currant and licorice and a whiff of medicinal cherry. Generous and open in the mouth, with a sappy quality to the flavors of cherry, leather and earth. More mid-palate sweetness and flesh here. This is higher-toned than the NV bottling in a positive way. Finishes with substantial broad tannins and lingering notes of smoke and earth. (ST)" (5/2008)

Of the 2009 Ridge "Lytton Springs" Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel,Connoisseurs Guide writes: "This winery's mastery of Zinfandel is once again evident here, and, if showing the richness and depth that we anticipate from Lytton Springs bottlings, this wine is keenly composed and comes with a little more polish than usual. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Dominus continues to strut its stuff, tasting like a Napa hybrid blend of a St.-Emilion and Pomerol. Its dark ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by notions of cedarwood, spice box, roasted herbs, sweet black cherry and cassis fruit, licorice, and truffles. Full-bodied with excellent fruit intensity, complex aromatics, supple tannins, and a long finish, this 7,000-case blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc, and 3% Petit Verdot should drink well for two decades or more. 95+ points. 98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot (note that rarely is any Merlot utilized at the historic Napanook Estate in Yountville). The alcohol, by California standards, is a relatively modest 14.1%. Blending the best of French savoir faire with the brilliant fruit purity and ripeness of Napa Valley, Moueix has turned in another tour de force that seems far superior today than it did when it was first released. 2005 Lewis Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Wines like this can be very good when young, but this one has so much room to grow that it needs to be allowed the opportunity to mature into a richer, rounder bottling over the next decade." It’s a big, ripe Napa Cabernet Sauvignon (as it should be) coming in at 15.2% natural alcohol. This has gorgeous notes of fig, plum, blackberry, cassis, with no real oak showing through, at least at age ten. Connoisseurs Guide: "***Three Stars*** As deep and defined and impressively structured as any wine in this issue, Lewis adds to its recent string of show-stopping Char-donnay successes with a Cabernet that stands with the best. A big, highly extracted wine whose concentration and sheer sense of scale are matched by few, it shows layer upon layer of cassis, creamy oak, cola, chocolate, coffee and loamy soil qualities that outdistance its ample young tannins and handily buffer its scant edge of heat. This famous vineyard at the northern end of Napa Valley, which in this era was owned by Bart and Daphne Araujo (today owned by François Pinault, the proprietor of Château Latour), can certainly make the argument that it’s one of the first growths of Napa Valley. 2005 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 96WS, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A candidate for one of the wines of the vintage, this stunning 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon from Rutherford includes in its blend some of the oldest Cabernet vines in existence in Napa Valley. It tips the scales at a lofty 15.4% alcohol, but believe it or not, it is strikingly elegant and pure, with laser-like precision. Inky, dark ruby/purple, with a stunning nose of forest floor, creme de cassis and a subtle, earthy minerality, the wine is built like a skyscraper, with a multidimensional mouthfeel and incredible complexity and richness, yet it never comes close to tasting heavy or overwrought. This is just a great terroir, great winemaking, and the results are profound. It seems to be drinkable now, but is capable of at least another 10-20 years of full-throttle pleasure. The 2005 Proprietary Red Cariad consists of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 11% Cabernet Franc and 9% Petit Verdot. Offering up spring flowers and garden aromas, sweet blueberry and black raspberry fruit, a touch of charcoal embers, graphite and background toast, it is fleshy and full-bodied, and again, meriting a three-digit score. This is absolutely remarkable wine. As it sat in the glass, it developed some rather compelling chocolaty, licorice undertones. This is a great classic to drink over the next 20-25 years. Primarily dry-farmed, from steep hillsides in Conn Valley, the challenge, according to winemaking consultant Philippe Melka, has always been to get the tannins under control, as they can be rustic. 2005 Vineyard 29 St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon New!
2005 Vineyard 29 St. Helena Cabernet Sauvignon

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A tiny production (674 cases) of the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon 29 Estates is pure, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from the famous Richard Grace clone of Cabernet Sauvignon. It had a 44-day maceration before the wine was aged 19 months in 90% new French oak. This wine performed better at ten years than it did initially. The dense, ruby/purple color remains youthful and younger than one would expect for a 10-year-old wine. The opaqueness goes right to the rim, the aromatics are stunning, and it offers a gorgeous display of blueberry, black raspberry and creme de ca ...Read More »

2005 Levy & McClellan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC)
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Levy & McClellan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 95RP, 94VN) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Levy and McClellan's 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, which spent 26 months in new oak (mostly Taransaud), is developing at an incredibly slow rate. Its opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by beautiful aromas of roasted coffee, melted chocolate, creme de cassis, burning embers, camphor, and a hint of cedar. On the palate, the wine combines considerable substance, power, and extract with a sense of harmony as well as elegance. Black currant, blackberry, and gamy, meaty notes are also present in this full-bodied effort with an incredibly long finish. The wine is just beginning to shed some tannin and become accessible. It will benefit from another 4-5 years of bottle age, and will easily last for three decades or more. 95+ (RP)" (12/2008)

2005 Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2005 Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (1.5L) (95CG, 95RP, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As for the 2005 Proprietary Red, it is a blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 1% each Petit Verdot and Malbec. While this might not be the blockbuster one would expect, there is outstanding depth, purity and overall texture and ripeness. Again, terrific acidity gives the wine vigor and precision, despite a lofty 15.2% alcohol. The wine is fresh and pure, with black raspberry and blackcurrant fruit, some white floral notes, and the telltale forest floor. This is a wine to drink over the next 10-15+ years. Pahlmeyer’s wines age well, as I am still working off the 1995 and 1996 Proprietary Reds, which remain in great shape. (RP)" (06/2015)

2005 Schrader "Beckstoffer To Kalon T6" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon T6 is 100% Clone 6, came in at 14.7% alcohol, and was aged in 100% new Darnajou barrels. It reveals a different character, with notes of charcoal and espresso roast, white chocolate, new saddle leather and a meaty, dense, full-bodied mouthfeel. This is spectacular and terrific stuff. After the RBS, this is probably the most evolved of these five cuvées, although I kept going back to the CCS, which has a hauntingly perfect bouquet. (RP)" (6/2015) 94 points Wine Spectator: "Combines a taut, firm structure with a tight mix of blackberry and black cherry fru ...Read More »

2005 Freemark Abbey "Bosche" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon New!
2005 Freemark Abbey "Bosche" Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon

95 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Drier and earthier than many Napa Cabs these days, this wine has subtle sage and sweet licorice that grounds its fruitier flavors of blackberries, cherries and raspberries. Very beautiful are the tannins, which are rich and pure, suggesting perfect ripeness. The small Bosché bottling has been a premier one for the winery for many years, and this ’05 is one of the best in memory. Should age effortlessly for at least a dozen years." (6/2010) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "From a 23-acre vineyard planted on the so-called red Rutherford dust, the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon ...Read More »

2005 Schweiger Vineyards "Dedication" Spring Mountain District Bordeaux Blend

90 points Wine Enthusiast: "This mountain-grown wine is a Cabernet-based Bordeaux blend. It's bone dry and hard in tannins and not showing well now. There's a big heart of blackberries and currants that should emerge sometime after 2011, after which it could become sweet and mellow." (12/2009)

2005 Duckhorn "Estate" Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5L
Bid on this 2-magnum lot of 2005 Duckhorn "Estate" Napa Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5L (93W&S, 90WS). Wine & Spirits: "If anyone needs proof that Napa Valley can still grow honest Cabernet, structured rather than softened by tannins, taste this wine from Duckhorn. It's balanced and firm, with plenty of alcohol to fire the earthiness. Its structure is completely filled by dark fruit and fruit-skin flavors of blueberries and black cherries. There's a lasting wild mushroom fruitiness to the tannin as well, adding depth to the wine and strengthening its potential to age." (12/2009)

2005 Kobalt Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5 L) Back In Stock!
2005 Kobalt Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5 L)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A sumptuous effort, the inky/purple-colored 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals stunning blueberry and blackberry fruit notes intermixed with scents of licorice, spice, oak, and flowers. It is full-bodied, dense, and rich with moderately high, but sweet tannins that are nicely integrated into a layered, impressive mouthfeel. It can be drunk in 1-2 years, and should last for two decades or more. (RP)" (12/2008) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Firm, rich and polished up front before the tannins weigh in, framing the dried currant and loamy earth flavors--and even when they do, they're supple a ...Read More »

2005 Palmaz Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Wine & Spirits: "This elegant cabernet grows at a range of elevations on Mount George, from 400 to 1,400 feet. Mia Klein consults with winemaker Tina Mitchell to produce a wine that's supple and suave rather than powerful, with a light touch of cassis and tobacco. The finish is gentle but persistent, with clarity and juiciness that make it ready to enjoy with roast leg of lamb. It's also suited to a year or two in the cellar." (2/2009) 91 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Solidly fruity and well-endowed with varietal notes of currants, black cherries, and dried tobacco accents, this well-proportioned bottling ...Read More »
