2009 Valentons Canteloup "Cuvée Excentrique" Bordeaux Supérieur

Chateau Valentons-Canteloup Bordeaux Superieur is a family-owned property that sits just along the Dordogne river in Bordeaux. It is owned by the Meynard family and Jacques Meynard makes all the wine on the property from white to rose to red. Jacques also makes a wine under the label of Chateau Valentons-Canteloup that he calls "Cuvee Excentrique", and it is truly eccentric for a Bordeaux Superieur, made from Petit Verdot (70%) and Merlot (30%).

2009 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

92 points James Suckling: "The quality of the fruit and tannins are very pretty here. It’s full-bodied, with round velvety texture and a delicious finish. Very impressive. Drink or hold." (7/2014) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm tannins, but also ripe, sweet fruits, with a fine balance. While the wine is on the light, fresh side, it does have a good, final structure. (RV)" (4/2010) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This Merlot-dominated wine displays a dense ruby/purple color, soft berry fruit intermixed with mocha, and hints of white chocolate, herbs, and spice. 2009 Bel Orme Tronquoy de Lalande, Haut-Médoc

John Gilman: "This was the first vintage I had ever tasted of this lovely Cru Bourgeois, which lies next door to Sociando Mallet and is owned by the folks at Château Rauzan Gassies in Margaux. The cépages is sixty-five percent merlot and thirty-five percent cabernet sauvignon and the wine is never aged in more than ten percent new wood. The 2009 is really excellent, as it offers up a fresh, ripe and classy nose of cassis, black cherries, chocolate, tobacco smoke and a nice base of soil. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, deep and nicely fleshy, with good, nascent ...Read More »

(Web Only—2010)" K&L Notes: 89-91 points Neal Martin's Wine Journal: "A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc 3% Petit Verdot, this has a fine crisp dark brambly nose: good definition with hints of black olive tapenade and a touch of smoke. 2009 Moulin-à-Vent, Moulis

Another great value from the superb 2009 Bordeaux vintage. Actually this is the first vintage I have tasted from this property-I loved it and bought it on the spot. 65% Merlot, 30% CS, and 5% CF. Lots of chocolate on the nose that follows to the palate. Quite lush and sweet on the palate. So easy to drink and less than $20. A must buy.

(3/2012) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and the rest Malbec is from the Thienpont family. (Puygueraud is the estate where this large clan was born.) The 2009 is impressive, but the estate somewhat under-the-radar, since it is hard to pronounce and not exactly a household name. 2009 Malartic-Lagravière Pessac-Léognan

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. The Malartic-Lagraviere ‘09 is evolving into one of the finest wines that the estate has ever produced. It has a more introverted bouquet with dark berry fruit, undergrowth and iodine. With rigorous swirling it still refuses to unfurl. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. It builds nicely towards a lovely black olive and spice tinged finish that exudes finesse. Superb. 2009 Siaurac, Lalande de Pomerol

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another excellent value from this appellation adjacent to Pomerol, this 2009 is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. This estate has been owned by the Baron Guichard family since 1932. Attractive truffle, graphite and plum notes intermixed with mocha and black cherry cascade from the glass of this supple, chunky, fleshy wine. Jancis Robinson: "The second wine of Gruaud-Larose, farmed organically. Not overblown. Well mannered with an undertow of the drama of the vintage. Drink 2013-2020." (4/2013) Wine Spectator: "This has a nice beefy edge, offering roasted fig, plum and warm tobacco leaf notes, with bittersweet cocoa inlaid on the slightly gutsy finish. On the rustic side, but solid and winey. This second wine is also released under the Larose de Gruaud label. Best from 2013 through 2020. (7/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The best ever wine from this estate (even better than their sensational 2005), this full-bodied wine offers notes of blueberry, black currant, asphalt and burning charcoal embers in a deep, layered and multi-dimensional style. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit on the entry: strawberry, cedar and blackcurrant. This is strict and very linear, conservative but compelling. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2009 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (100RP, 96JS, 96WE, 95ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the more flamboyant and sumptuous wines of the vintage, this inky/purple-colored St.-Julien reveals thrilling levels of opulence, richness and aromatic pleasures. A soaring bouquet of creme de cassis, charcoal, graphite and spring flowers is followed by a super-concentrated wine with silky tannins, stunning amounts of glycerin, a voluptuous, multilayered mouthfeel and nearly 14% natural alcohol. 2009 Clos de l'Oratoire, St-Emilion

94 points Wine Spectator: "This is very suave, with mocha and smoldering tobacco flavors laced with fig, plum and blackberry notes. A flash of sweet tapenade and iron helps extend the finish, which has lovely latent minerality. This shows great restraint, considering its power of fruit. Best from 2015 through 2027. (JM)" (3/2012) 93 points James Suckling: "Wild nose of flowers, sweet tobacco and ripe fruit, follow through to a full body, with velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Firm tannins, yet fresh finish. Try after 2018." (2/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A flamboyant St.-Emilion, this largely-Merlot blend displays notes of Christm ...Read More »

2009 Montrose, St-Estèphe 6-pack in OWC

100 points James Suckling: "Blueberries, currants and Indian spices on the nose follow through to a full body, with ultra-fine tannins and a lovely finish. It's intense and refined. A beauty. It goes on for minutes. Speechless. Better and cleaner than the great 1990. Try in 2022." (2/2012) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A colossal effort, the 2009 Montrose represents a hypothetical blend of the monumental duo of 1989 and 1990 combined with the phenomenal 2003...the overall impression is one of massive blackberry, black currant and mulberry fruit intermixed with forest floor, damp earth, crushed rocks and a hint of ...Read More »

2009 Malartic-Lagravière Pessac-Léognan 12-pack in OWC

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Served blind at the Southwold 2009 tasting. The Malartic-Lagraviere ‘09 is evolving into one of the finest wines that the estate has ever produced. It has a more introverted bouquet with dark berry fruit, undergrowth and iodine. With rigorous swirling it still refuses to unfurl. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins. It builds nicely towards a lovely black olive and spice tinged finish that exudes finesse. Superb. (NM)" (7/2013) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "Almost sweet in its richness, this is a deliciously fruity wine. The structure and tannins are almost buried among a ...Read More »

2009 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (nicked label) Back In Stock!
2009 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac (nicked label)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Mouton-Rothschild is as concentrated as the 2010, but it presents itself in a more consumer-friendly, seductive style. Opulently textured and full-bodied with gorgeous levels of crème de cassis, melted licorice, espresso roast and chocolate, it possesses high but sweet, velvety tannins, massive body, and fabulous purity as well as length. This could turn out to be a candidate for perfection in another 8-10 years. It will drink well for 30-50 years, but will always be much more approachable and charming than its 2010 counterpart. (RP)" (12/2014) 98 points Decanter: "Ne ...Read More »

2009 La Gaffelière, St-Emilion

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely spectacular effort, the 2009 is one of the all-time great La Gaffelieres produced. One would have to go back to the 2005, 1947 or 1961 to find this level of quality from this ancient, historic vineyard planted adjacent to the walls of St.-Emilion, on the Cote Pavie. Dating back to the 1400s, this estate has been owned for over three centuries by the Malet-Roquefort family. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon (in the past it was two-thirds Merlot and the rest split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc), the 2009 reveal ...Read More »
