2009 Saint Martial, St-Emilion Top Pick!
2009 Saint Martial, St-Emilion

High quality, value Bordeaux is one of the great pleasures in wine. Saint Martial is a fine St-Emilion estate located along the Dorgodne River. Originally founded by the Dupeyrat family, it is now run by Micheau Maillou and family, and comprised of just 3.7 hectares. Great care is taken in the vineyard, and many of the vines have some real age with an overall average of 45 years. Predominately Merlot with 20% Cabernet Franc, this is classic St-Emilion split between 1/3 new oak, 1/3 used, 1/3 third neutral vats. With just the right amount of age in the bo... Read More »

2009 Coufran, Haut-Médoc Top Pick!
2009 Coufran, Haut-Médoc

92 points James Suckling: "The quality of the fruit and tannins are very pretty here. It’s full-bodied, with round velvety texture and a delicious finish. Very impressive. Drink or hold." (7/2014) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Firm tannins, but also ripe, sweet fruits, with a fine balance. While the wine is on the light, fresh side, it does have a good, final structure. (RV)" (4/2010) Jancis Robinson: "Rich dark plum fruit but also meaty and savoury - a wine with attitude. Smooth and pretty dense, just about fresh. Drink 2014-2023. (JH)" (10/2011) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This Merlot-dominated wine displays a dense ruby/purple color, soft berry fruit intermi ...Read More »

2009 Malmaison, Moulis-en-Médoc

Wine Spectator: "This has a good sappy feel, with kirsch and cherry preserves flavors laced with a pepper note and a lively tobacco streak. Shows a stony edge on the finish. Drink now through 2015. (JM)" (5/2012) K&L Notes: Not to be confused with the Napoleonic museum (Château de Malmaison) located just west of Paris, the 24 hectare Château Malmaison in Moulis, Gironde, was purchased by the Rothschilds in 1973 and lies adjacent to Château Clarke. The abandoned vineyard was renovated between 1974 and 1978, its soils now yielding distinctive and harmonious wines that are mellow, fruit... Read More »

2009 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Lynch-Bages, Pauillac (98RP, 97JS, 96WE, 96WS, 93ST, 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Performing even better from bottle than it did from barrel, this appears to be the finest Lynch Bages since the 2000, 1990 and 1989. According to the chateau, the 2009 has the highest level of polyphenols ever measured as well as high alcohol (nearly 13.5%). A blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest largely Merlot with touches of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it is an expressive, voluptuously textured effort with unctuosity and powerful, juicy, succulent blackberry and black currant flavors, low acids, a layered, massive mouthfeel, but no sense of heaviness or fatigue. This exquisite Lynch Bages should drink well for 30+ years. (RP)" (02/2012)

2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (100JD, 100RP, (98-100WE), 98JS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An amazing wine in every sense, this classic, full-bodied Pauillac is the quintessential Pontet Canet from proprietor Alfred Tesseron, who continues to reduce yields and farms his vineyards biodynamically – a rarity in Bordeaux. Black as a moonless night, the 2009 Pontet Canet offers up notes of incense, graphite, smoke, licorice, creme de cassis and blackberries. A wine of irrefutable purity, laser-like precision, colossal weight and richness, and sensational freshness, this is a tour de force in winemaking that is capable of lasting 50 or more years. The tannins are elevated, but they are sweet and beautifully integrated as are the acidity, wood and alcohol (which must be in excess of 14%). This vineyard, which is situated on the high plateau of Pauillac adjacent to Mouton Rothschild, appears to have done everything perfectly in 2009. This cuvee should shut down i

2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "A wine I’ve been lucky enough to have numerous times since release, the 2009 Pontet Canet is one of those magical efforts that wine lovers encounter far too infrequently. From one of the greatest vintages for the region ever, this deep, saturated purple-colored effort offers an incredible bouquet of crème de cassis, blackcurrants, lead pencil shavings, damp earth, and graphite. This gives way to a full-bodied, powerful Pauillac that carries a massive amount of sweet fruit yet stays light and beautifully balanced on the palate. With ripe, sweet tannin, an ...Read More »

92 points James Suckling: "Violets and blackberries with hints of spices on the nose. Full body, with soft and velvety tannins and a juicy finish. Drink now or hold. Always excellent value." (3/2012) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and the rest Malbec is from the Thienpont family. (Puygueraud is the estate where this large clan was born.) The 2009 is impressive, but the estate somewhat under-the-radar, since it is hard to pronounce and not exactly a household name. (7/2014) Wine Spectator: "Taut and racy, with a delicious beam of linzer torte, dried black currant and roasted fig flavors, all laced with tobacco leaf and espresso notes. The solid, racy finish shows nice length and cut. (JM, Web-2012)" K&L Notes: Situated near Pauillac, these vineyards are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, and 5% Cab Franc. Bid on this bottle of 2009 Léoville-Poyferré, St-Julien (100JD, 100RP, 96JS, 96WE, 95VN, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "One of the more flamboyant and sumptuous wines of the vintage, this inky/purple-colored St.-Julien reveals thrilling levels of opulence, richness and aromatic pleasures. A soaring bouquet of creme de cassis, charcoal, graphite and spring flowers is followed by a super-concentrated wine with silky tannins, stunning amounts of glycerin, a voluptuous, multilayered mouthfeel and nearly 14% natural alcohol. Displaying fabulous definition for such a big, plump, massive, concentrated effort, I suspect the tannin levels are high even though they are largely concealed by lavish amounts of fruit, glycerin and extract. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2040. (RP)" (02/2012)

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot, 6% Petit Verdot and the balance Cabernet Franc that hit 13.9% alcohol, it offers everything you could ask of a wine and reveals a saturated purple color as well as incredible notes of crème de cassis, blueberries, lead pencil, exotic Spices, and dried flowers. It is owned by the Meynard family and Jacques Meynard makes all the wine on the property from white to rose to red. 2009 La Couspaude, St-Emilion

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The best La Couspaude I have ever tasted, the opaque purple 2009 exhibits nicely integrated toasty oak/pain grille in addition to cassis, kirsch, raspberries and earthy undertones. Full-bodied, with beautiful integration of acidity, alcohol and tannin, this is a robust, exuberant, somewhat flamboyant style of St.-Emilion that is clearly modern, but quite frankly, delicious. (RP)" (2/2012) 90-92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Pure blackberry and currant fruits, lots of ripe and juicy flavors. Intense, concentrated and smoky. 2009 La Gaffelière, St-Emilion

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An absolutely spectacular effort, the 2009 is one of the all-time great La Gaffelieres produced. One would have to go back to the 2005, 1947 or 1961 to find this level of quality from this ancient, historic vineyard planted adjacent to the walls of St.-Emilion, on the Cote Pavie. Dating back to the 1400s, this estate has been owned for over three centuries by the Malet-Roquefort family. This is a big, ripe, incredibly sexy wine that hits the palate with a huge texture, building, ripe tannin, no weight, and a finish that just won't quit. Utterly brilliant stuff, it's slightly more approachable than the 2005, but both of these vintages play in the same style. Drink bottles anytime over the coming two to three decades. Bravo!" This spectacular wine is nearly overwhelming in its richness, thickness and intensity. Once all its baby fat falls away, the terroir characteristics and additional nuances will emerge. This blockbuster, fabulous Troplong Mondot will benefit from 10-15 years of cellaring and keep for three decades or more. It is not shy either, bouncing over the palate with 15.5% natural alcohol. It goes on for minutes. Speechless. Better and cleaner than the great 1990. Try in 2022." (3/2012) 100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A colossal effort, the 2009 Montrose represents a hypothetical blend of the monumental duo of 1989 and 1990 combined with the phenomenal 2003. Here, the 2009 has a lifted, perfumed, Burgundy-inspired bouquet that is nicely defined but showing a little more unresolved oak than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit on the entry: strawberry, cedar and blackcurrant. This is strict and very linear, conservative but compelling. 90 points Wine Spectator: "A ripe, fleshy, smoky style, with lots of fig and plum fruit pushed by roasted tobacco leaf and warm bittersweet cocoa notes. The finish lets ganache and linzer torte hang on nicely. Solid. Drink now through 2021. (Web-2012)" Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Elegant, fresh, and lively, but lacking the substance and concentration of the vintage's finest wines, this 2009 should be drunk during its first decade." (4/2010) K&L Notes: Plummy nuances, with a very ripe chocolate note on the nose. Toasted oak and coffee aromas. Ripe, fleshy and slightly new wave in style, with tons of blackberry fruit on the ... 2009 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan (98RP, 97JS, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A dense ruby/purple-tinged color offers up notes of forest floor, subtle wood smoke, mulberries, black cherries, cassis and a hint of lead pencil shavings. There is even a floral component lurking in the intricate aromatic profile. The wine is medium to full-bodied with wonderful intensity that builds incrementally and has a long, silky, luscious finish. There is plenty of tannin, but it is largely concealed by the wine’s beautiful fruit and ethereal complexity. Given its virtually perfect balance, this brilliant Haut-Bailly should age effortlessly for 3-4 decades. This is a tour de force in winemaking, particularly for readers seeking the quintessential example of a Bordeaux that combines compelling complexity and finesse with significant flavor authority and intensity. I suppose we could see this coming as American owner, Robert Wilmers, along with his winemaker/manag

2009 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe Back In Stock!
2009 Calon-Ségur, St-Estèphe

93-96 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers gorgeous aromas of blackberry, blueberry and licorice, with hints of tobacco and spice. Full-bodied, offering a lovely texture and refinement. Very long and beautiful, with tangy acidity and lively fruit. A rich, yet very balanced, Calon. This is almost all Cabernet Sauvignon instead of the normal blend with 40 percent Merlot. The château is now using 100 percent new wood. Like the changes. (JS, Web Only-2010)" 95 points James Suckling: "Superb richness on the nose of dark berries, shiitake mushrooms and flowers. Full body with soft, silky tannins and a refined, integrated ...Read More »

2009 Haut-Carles, Fronsac

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Right up there with the best of the Fronsacs, the 2009 Haut-Carles is a blend of 90% Merlot and the rest split between Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Boasting Dr. Alain Raynaud as the oenologist/consultant, an abundance of crushed rock, blueberry, graphite and chalky notes are present in this dense purple wine, which is full-bodied, rich and clearly an over-achiever in this vintage or any other. Drink it over the next 10-15+ years. (RP)" (2/2012) 91 points James Suckling: "Blueberry and flowers on nose, with dark chocolate. Full body, with firm tannins and a chewy finish. A little tight ...Read More »

2009 Mouton Rothschild, Pauillac

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Mouton-Rothschild is as concentrated as the 2010, but it presents itself in a more consumer-friendly, seductive style. Opulently textured and full-bodied with gorgeous levels of crème de cassis, melted licorice, espresso roast and chocolate, it possesses high but sweet, velvety tannins, massive body, and fabulous purity as well as length. This could turn out to be a candidate for perfection in another 8-10 years. It will drink well for 30-50 years, but will always be much more approachable and charming than its 2010 counterpart. (RP)" (12/2014) 98 points Decanter: "Ne ...Read More »

2009 Canon-La-Gaffelière, St-Emilion

97 points James Suckling: "Porcini mushrooms, with dark and ripe fruits. Turns to licorice and violets. Full body, with round and soft tannins and a long delicious finish. The texture is gorgeous. So much going on in the glass. Try after 2018." (2/2012) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This is well-cloaked for now in roasted vanilla and espresso notes, but there’s ample, fleshy fig sauce and mulled blackberry fruit in reserve. The finish sports a long, melted licorice snap feel. Dense, but beautifully polished and pure. For the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2030. *Highly Recommended, Ranked #23, Top 100 Wines of ...Read More »

2009 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (1.5L)

2009 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2009 Haut-Bailly, Pessac-Léognan (1.5L) (100RP, 97JS, 95WE, 94ST, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "... The 2009, which has an opaque ruby/purple color, an extraordinary nose of high-quality unsmoked cigar tobacco, graphite, blackcurrants and spice, hits the palate with a medium to full-bodied, saturated and rich mouthfeel, but an elegant and ethereal quality that is difficult to articulate. It is rich, complex and tastes as if it were the vinous equivalent of a remarkable haute couture creation from the late Coco Chanel. It is full-bodied yet elegant, powerful yet delicate, and remarkably velvety-textured, sumptuous and loaded with upside potential. It can be approached now, as most 2009s tend to be, given their richness of fruit, low acidity and extraordinary concentration, but the great complexity that will emerge from this fabulous terroir is at least a decade away, and this wine is set for 50 or more years of longevity. Kudos to Haut-Bailly! (RP)" (04/20

2009 La Tour Figeac, St-Emilion

93 points James Suckling: "Aromas of blueberries, with a toasted oak and meat character. Full-bodied, with soft and velvety tannins and a berry, toasted oak finish. Rich, yet subtle. Needs at least three or four years to come together." (2/2012) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The finest wine yet made by this estate run by Stephane Derenoncourt's wife, Christine, this blend of 78% Merlot and 22% Cabernet Franc tips the scales at 14+% alcohol. It exhibits copious aromas of blueberries, raspberries, asphalt, truffles, charcoal and a hint of graphite. Full-bodied and powerful with low acidity, excellent freshness and ...Read More »
