2003 Aleph "Old Vines" Malbec Mendoza

This is terrific Malbec, with nearly 15 years bottle age, and therefore a real rarity. Great presence on the palate - dark fruits, graphite and some savory hickory smoke notes as well, but still fresh. The Malbec in this bottle comes from 90= year old vines in Lujan de Cuyo. Maybe one of our best deals in serious Argentinian Malbecs.

2012 Valli "Old Vine" Riesling Central Otago (Dry) (Previously $25)

93 points Raymond Chan: "The bouquet is very tightly bound and concentrated, but elegantly proportioned, with ethereal aromatic detail, showing minerals, lime fruit and white florals. Dry to taste and still very tight in expression, the fruit extract, depth and fine texture is the feature. Concentrated and pure flavours of mineral-infused white floral fruit unfold, revealing slate and flint with delicate citrus elements. The fruit is underlined by brisk, racy, mouthwatering acidity that drives the refined, textural palate line to a pristine and very long, sustained finish with l ...Read More »

2006 Achával Ferrer "Finca Mirador" Malbec Mendoza

95 points Wine Spectator: "*Highly Recommended* This has a stunning nose, with a high-toned violet note running through waves of warm blueberry, fig, boysenberry and raspberry compote. The intense palate is superracy, with superb underlying minerality driving the fruit through the long, seamless finish. Flaunts power without ever getting bombastic. Malbec. Drink now through 2018." (11/2008) 92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep ruby. Blackberry, mocha, tobacco and a musky gamey note on the nose; smells sweeter today than the Finca Altamira. Then suppler, sweeter and wilder on the palate, with a more pliant, feminin ...Read More »

2006 Cheval des Andes Mendoza

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Cheval des Andes was bottled in early 2008 but has not yet been released. The 2006 vintage is superb throughout Mendoza and this wine, as in many other bodegas I visited in April 2008, shows off the extra dimension of complexity made possible in an exceptional year. The wine is composed entirely of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a bit more saturated than the 2005 with a splendid perfume of pain grille, mineral, espresso, black cherry, and black raspberry that leaps from the glass. More opulent and layered than the 2005, it also conceals a ...Read More »

2002 Almaviva "Almaviva" Bordeaux Blend Maipo Valley

93 points Pierre Rovani writing for the Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Almaviva is the finest produced to date by this joint venture between Vina Concha y Toro and the Baron Philippe de Rothschild. This Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine has a saturated, opaque, black ruby color as well as nose of sweet dark fruits, spices, and vanilla-laced smoky new oak. On the palate, this medium to full-bodied effort is broad, lush, and velvety-textured. Blackberries, cassis liqueur, and black cherries make up this deep, seamless wine’s flavor profile. It is concentrated, has o... Read More »

2005 Vincent Girardin Tasting Lot
Bid on this 6-bottle 2005 Vincent Girardin Tasting Lot, including 2-bottles of 2005 Vincent Girardin Santenay 1er Cru "Gravieres" Vieilles Vignes, 2-bottles of 2005 Vincent Girardin Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Vergelesses", and 2-bottles of 2005 Vincent Girardin Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er cru “Serpentières”. Of the 2005 Vincent Girardin Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru "Les Vergelesses",This is smokey on the palate, with rich black fruit and a prominent thread of minerality at its core. This is no surprise, since this vineyard, on the border with Pernand is known for its shallow topsoils and limestone subsoil. It is muscular and masculine. Drinking now, with decanting, but a terrific cellar candidate. (Keith Wollenberg, K&L Burgundy Buyer, 05/10)

2012 Dog Point Chardonnay Marlborough (Elsewhere $30)

93 points Bob Campbell: "Reasonably weighty Chardonnay with stone fruit/white peach/nectarine, cedar and hazelnut flavours. The wine has a perfect balance of subtle fruit sweetness and lively acidity giving a little tension and helping drive a lengthy finish. Youthful Chardonnay with good potential." 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "92+ The 2012 Chardonnay exudes gorgeous pineapple, green mango and white peach notes with underlying hints of honeyed toast, cashews and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, it is densely packed with tropical and stone fruit flavors complimented with honey-nut nuances, refreshing acid and a ...Read More »

2003 Rippon Pinot Noir Lake Wanaka Central Otago New Zealand (Biodynamic)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Pinot Noir has quite a stunning nose of freshly tilled soil, followed by a distinctly Burgundy-inspired palate with silky smooth tannins and a light, ethereal finish." (4/2008) Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium red. Strawberry, rose petal, pepper and oak on the nose. Fresh and firmly built, with precise flavors brightened by mint and fresh herbs. Not a fleshy style but offers good life in the mouth. The firm tannins call for two or three years of patience." (10/2005) Wine Spectator: "Wild berry, spice and strawberry flavors are supple, with very good concentration, a lively structure and toas ...Read More »

2009 Dry River Chardonnay Martinborough

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Chardonnay has ripe apple and apricot aromas with nuances of toast, cashews, orange blossom and a whiff of honey comb. Of the 1999 Maison Bigot & Alex Gambal Clos Vougeot Grand Cru,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The smoked bacon-scented, medium to dark ruby-colored 1999 Clos Vougeot is an outstanding, medium to full-bodied wine. Silky-textured, pure, and sultry, it is a well-focused, decadently styled, spicy blackberry, candied blueberry, and cherry-flavored offering. 2000 Massandra "Prince Golitzin Seventh Heaven" White Dessert Blend Crimea Ukraine (OCB)
Bid on this bottle of 2000 Massandra "Prince Golitzin Seventh Heaven" White Dessert Blend Crimea Ukraine in original cardboard. A rare dessert wine from the oldest winery in the Ukraine. The Massandra appellation stretches along the south coast of the Crimea. Sweet wine production goes back to the early 19th century in the region, which flourished under the unquenchable demand of the Tsars. Here, the winemaking history remained intact under communism, unlike what later happened behind the Iron Curtain to the sweet wine estates of Hungary. According to Robert Parker: "Founded by Tsar Nicholas II in 1894, the Massandra Winery, on the outskirts of Yalta, on the Crimean Peninsula, supplied the royal family with fine wines while they were vacationing at their summer palace at Livadia."

2006 Bodega Weinert "Cavas de Weinert" Mendoza

Long known as the winery that releases some of the most traditionally made Malbec and Malbec blends in Argentina (large oak foudre fermentations and ageing, late releases) Bodega Weinert has changed very little in their winemaking process, which they say is based upon Bordeaux practices in the 20th century - the mid 20th, that is! A blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from what many consider the best vintage of the 21st century in 2006, the cavas bottling is drinking quite well now, as it will for some time to come. An Argentinian classic.
