2015 Domaine Renaud Mâcon-Villages

Once in a great while you find wines from the Mâcon so good that tasting them blind you might think they're from a much higher (and more expensive) appellation - and this is such a wine. Domaine Renaud is a small operation, making Mâcon, Pouilly-Fuissé and St. Veran from 12 hectares of estate vineyards. Their cellar is modern, and they use upright ovals for many of the wines, and stainless for others. This value is a great alternative to California Chardonnay and an entry into white Burgundy.

2015 Olivier Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc "Oncle Vincent"

90 points Wine Spectator: "An enticing mix of lime blossom, seashore and citrus aromas signals this elegant, linear white. Citronella and nut oil flavors play out on the long, detailed aftertaste. Drink now through 2022." (11/2017) Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A whiff of matchstick character can be found on the equally pretty and ripe assortment of white orchard fruit and floral scents. As is usually the case there is a bit more size, weight and richness to the attractively textured middle weight flavors that are blessed with slightly better depth and length and less evident warmth. 2016 Domaine Renaud Pouilly-Fuissé Vieilles Vignes

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Pouilly Fuisse Vieilles Vignes, from vines between 55 and 80 years old, has an attractive, quite strict bouquet with citrus lemon and apple blossom aromas, an underlying mineralité coming through with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, focused and tensile with quite a persistent citrus finish. This is a well-crafted, fresh and vibrant Pouilly-Fuissé. 2015 Domaine Renaud St-Véran

Once in a great while you find wines from the Mâcon so good that tasting them blind you are forced to apply some much higher (and more expensive) appellation to it. Often, such a wine comes from hillside vineyards, with better drainage and cooler nights. This is such a wine, from the slopes below the giant monolith of rock that is Solutré. The notably rich flavors possess a seductive mouth feel while retaining reasonably good vibrancy on the round a delicious finish where the only reproach is a hint of warmth." (6/2017) Wine & Spirits: "This comes across as a simple, polished Chardonnay, with clean, honeyed grape flavors. 2016 La Chablisienne Bourgogne Chardonnay Top Pick!
2016 La Chablisienne Bourgogne Chardonnay

Wine Advocate's Neal Martin writes: "La Chablisienne is one of Chablis’ most high-profile cooperatives and a great success story. Founded back in 1923 and still going strong, it is said that they oversee approximately one-quarter of the region’s production, around 300 individual growers. Therefore, just like Georges Duboeuf in Beaujolais or Louis Jadot in the Cote d’Or, it is important that they maintain standards irrespective of high volumes, since their size ensures that they have an ambassadorial role for Chablis, for ordinary punters perhaps seeking ... Concentrated, citric, and long." (4/2016) 90 points Wine Spectator: "A minerally expression drives this sleek white, whose flavors evoke white peach, white flowers and citrus oil. Light-bodied and intense, with fine length. Drink now through 2020." 2015 Chateau Vitallis Macon-Fuissé

Vitallis is a new "hidden gem" our buyers found in the Mâcon, where small producers fly under the radar. In classic Burgundian fashion, the Dutron family has been growing vines since 1835, and now owns some of the oldest and best parcels in the village of Fuissé in the Pouilly-Fuissé district. In the glass, the wines live up to the hype: subtle, like any good white Burgundy, but complex, mineral-driven and poised. Denis Dutron uses all French oak, again with minimal new oak, and he also employs traditional "batonnage" practice, stirring the lees through ... Read More »

(6/2017) John Gilman: "The Domaine Sauzet 2015 Bourgogne Blanc will drink beautifully from release, with a bit more mid-palate amplitude this year than in most vintages.
