2015 Kalinda Riesling Rheingau Top Pick!
2015 Kalinda Riesling Rheingau

We are very excited to present the Kalinda Rheingau Riesling. The wine comes from one of the top producers in the Rheingau that pays the utmost attention to detail in the vineyards and the winery. Aromas of honeysuckle, freshly zested lemons and stone fruits lead to a palate that is alive with yellow apples, nectarine and a hint of lanolin. This off-dry Riesling is balanced by loads of acidity and is the perfect pairing for spicy or fatty foods. (Olivia Ragni K&L Germany liaison)

2014 Leitz "Dragonstone" Riesling Rheingau

Extraordinarily aromatic, vigorous wines from a vintner who grows more commanding each vintage. This is the wine that once was called Rüdesheimer Drachenstein, and it’s the wine David Schildknecht said was the best Riesling value in the world, which is because Johannes sells it to us for much less than it’s worth. For a large-production wine this receives the same care in the vineyards and cellar that every Leitz wine receives.

2012 Friedrich Becker Estate Pinot Noir Pfalz

Coming from one of the top producers of Spatburgunder (Pinot Noir) this "entry level" Pinot is a spicy treat. With the chalky soils in the area, Becker produces some of Germany's finest Pinot Noir. Full of spicy strawberry and bright cherry fruit, just a hint of tobacco and a dusty earthiness and layers of subtle textures tell you that you paid way too little for this offering. Delicious on its own, but also complements heavier seafood, poultry and fine cuts of beef or game.

Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Gin 375ml Top Pick!
Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Gin 375ml

The romantic story of Monkey 47 gin is as follows: in 1951, a British man named Montgomery Collins moved to Germany's Black Forest and opened a guesthouse named "Zum wilden Affen" -- the wild monkey. A renowned gin drinker, Collins' taste for the spirit was not particularly renowned until renovation work at the country guesthouse led to the discovery of a weighty old wooden box containing a bottle and a letter. The dusty bottle had been labeled and decorated by hand, showing a sketch of a monkey and the words "Max the Monkey - Schwarzwald Dry Gin" in bla... Read More »

2015 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Mosel (Pre-Arrival)

The Wehlener Sonnenuhr is, without question, the most famous of vineyard sites within the Prüm Estate if not all of the Mosel Valley. With its south-southwest exposure, weathered grey slate and ridiculous steepness (up to 70%) it provides an optimal growing climate for Riesling. The wines from here show fantastic depth of stone fruit flavors accompanied by a fine line of minerality and length. From the cellar of J.J. Prüm, this is a perennially classic, collectible Riesling.

2015 Joh. Jos. Prüm Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Kabinett Mosel (Pre-Arrival)

For centuries the Prüm family has called the village of Wehlen home. Their ancestors were living in or near Wehlen as early as the year 1156. The Prüm estate as we know it today began with Sebastian Alois Prüm. His brother Jodocus constructed both of the famous Wehlener and Zeltinger sundials (Sonnenuhr). Of his six sons only Mathais married. Johann Josef Prüm (1873 - 1944), the son of Mathias, founded the J.J. Prüm estate in 1911. A bright, energetic style of rosé that shows wonderful fruit textures and flavors that carry on and on. Lots of strawberry, spicy rhubarb and elegant flower petals abound throughout. This an amazing value for the high quality this wine displays. As I’ve been drinking the 2014 until just recently, I suspect that this will also be drinking unbelievably well right up to and through the next vintage—good stuff! 2015 Mönchhof Estate Riesling Mosel

The Mönchhof estate dates at least as far back as the 12th century, as evidenced by a document still in the Eymael family's possession, signed by Pope Alexander III, showing the Cloister Himmerod--a Cistercian Abbey--having vineyard holdings in Urzig as early as 1177. And the wines have been popular for a long time, too. At the Chicago World's Fair in 1893, Mönchhof won medals for their wines. These days, the wines reflect the personality of the estate's proprietor Robert Eymael: easy to like, with a sense of style and simple sophistication.

2002 C.H. Berres Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese

I love the 2002 vintage in Germany - completely overshadowed by the 2001's and 2003's. For me, it was a perfect vintage with fresh aromatics, fruit textures and delicate acidities. This bottling is also drinking absolutely perfect. From the famed Treppchen vineyard this shows wonderful spice on the nose with notable spice and texture. Again, this wine is drinking much like its little Kabinett sibling, spot on. The color is absolutely perfect while the palate is alive and dancing. C.H. Berres: since 1510. 1510!!! Professor Fritz Briem "1809" Berliner Weisse, Germany (16.9oz)

In 1809, Napoleon and his troops identified Berliner Weisse as the Champagne of the North. He requested the beer be served w/syrup to cut its extreme level of acidity. This 1809 is a very traditional interpretation of the "Berliner Style" Weisse with an intense blend of lactic tartness and complex fruitiness. It is bottle-conditioned with lactobacillus delbrueckii, unfiltered and unpasteurized. "1809" will age beautifully in a dark and cool location. Its complex fruitiness and tartness will most likely develop in quite astonishing ways.

Fermented at 25% in Doppelstücks (2,400-liter) and stainless steel, the wine opens clear with cool and refreshing aromatics, as well as flinty aromas on the nose. Vinous: "Sourced from gentler, deeper-soiled sites east of Forst, in Ruppertsberg, Friedelsheim and Niederkirchen, this generic bottling is for some reason labeled 'Riesling Trocken Rural' in its home market. Salt-tinged bright citrus and apple are complemented by levity from just under 12% alcohol, leading to a mouthwatering and refreshing if simple and only modestly sustained finish.
