2015 Veronique Anne Perret Vin de Savoie Apremont

The village of Apremont once sat in the shadow of a great mountain. In 1248 that mountain collapsed, destroying, everything in its path. Fortunately, the mountain itself was made of limestone which is some of the best geological material for growing grapes and the site is littered with limestone scree (broken rock fragments). The grape of choice for the region is Jacquère and some of the best comes from this village. Like most wines from Savoie, the Perret has hallmark aromas of citrus and lemongrass with a touch of peach as well. Where it really excels ... Read More »

2015 Domaine Dugois Ploussard Arbois Rouge

In 1973, Daniel Dugois bought 2 hectares of vineyards and a house equipped with wine cellars in a village called Les Arsures, where he was born. He cultivated the vineyard and sold his production primarily to Henri Maire, one of the most prominent producers in Jura at that time. In 1982, Daniel made his first harvest in his own cellars and began to sell his wines to consumers. His first ever harvest earned him his first Gold Medal for his Chardonnay at the Jura Wine Contest. 2013 Yves Duport "Origin'L Reserve" Bugey Brut RD

Yves Duport is a fourth generation winemaker based in the town of Groslee, one of the villages located in the not-so-well-known appellation of Bugey. Bugey lies to the west of Savoie, France's alpine region, of which it shares many similarities. The region is also quite close to Burgundy and Beaujolais, so many of their influences are felt as well. The classic grape varieties from both regions are planted throughout Bugey including Chardonnay, Gamay, Pinot Noir, Altesse and Mondeuse. The region itself is most famous for its Bugey-Cerdon, a slightly s... Read More »

Patrick Bottex "La Cueille" Bugey Cerdon Rosé (Méthode Ancéstrale)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Dry, crisp, fresh and incredibly fragrant, this sparkling wine is a terrific bargain. The good news is there are around 4,000 cases of it, although I do not know how much is imported by Kermit Lynch ... This cuvee may qualify as the 'wine bargain of the year.' A Champagne-like sparkling rose from the largely forgotten area of Bugey (which only received appellation status in 2009), this low alcohol (8%) offering is made from 90% Gamay and 10% Poulsard (an indigenous grape of the region). (RP)" (2/2012) K&L Notes: According to the L.A. Times: "Ever so slightly sweet, i... Read More »

Domaine André & Mireille Tissot Crémant du Jura Extra Brut

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As most of the sparkling wines from the region, the Crémants du Jura from Tissot are sold without vintage, which is a shame as some of them are really age-worthy; it would be great to be able to compare vintages and follow up on evolution. So we started with the NV Crémant du Jura Extra Brut that has a golden color with some pink tints, as it’s a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 5% each Poulsard and Trousseau, with half of the wine fermented in barrique and with no dosage. Crémant can be 30% of the whole production of the Jura, and in Tissot, ...Read More »

2014 Domaine de l'Aigle À Deux Têtes Savagnin "Les Clous" Côtes du Jura Blanc

From the importer: "Henri Le Roy farms a few tiny parcels of vineyards in the Cotes du Jura - an area just west of the Swiss border and Lac Léman (Lake Geneva), and just east of Burgundy. He’s an intense man - driven, and smart. In fact, his original career was as a Biologist, in Paris. He was drawn to the Jura by its incredible terroir, with ancient stones and seashells from its Jurassic period namesake. He’s pretty new at this - his first vintage was 2005 - but the results speak for themselves. Unlike many of his counterparts in Jura, he abhors oxidati... Read More »

2009 Domaine Dugois Vin Jaune Arbois (620ml)

91 points Wine Spectator: "Distinctive, with dry-edged walnut and Brazil nut notes giving this tension, while the core lets persimmon, orange peel and quince details flow through, imparting a sense of contrasting opulence. Flirts with sweetness, but stays dry, showing lovely cut through the finish. Drink now through 2022. (JM)" (9/2016)

Domaine André & Mireille Tissot "BBF" Blanc de Blancs Cremant de Jura Extra Brut

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Cremant du Jura BBF Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs smells like a serious Champagne. It is a blend of 2008 and 2009; the 2008 matured for 14 months in barrique and the 2009 only in tank. This is a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. The wine was kept for some five years on the lees before disgorgement. It has a smoky character, lots of notes of baked bread and brioche, as well as creamy texture and great length. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to follow up on these non-vintage wines, but this bottle can surely age. (LG)" (10/2015) 92 points Vinous: "Bright yellow. Herba ...Read More »

2015 Veronique Anne Perret Roussette de Savoie New!
2015 Veronique Anne Perret Roussette de Savoie

Founded in 1927 in the village of Jongieux, the Perret family has worked with many of the same seasoned growers for four generations. Roussette de Savoie is not the easiest appellation to describe as it encompasses vast parts of the region of Savoie. The most important thing to remember is that these are usually some of the best sites and they are 100% Altesse (aka Roussette). Altesse is a grape that seems to have more in common with Chenin Blanc rather than the local Jacquere. It is loaded with vibrant citrus notes and Mandarin orange qualities. It is d... Read More »

Tissot is one of the masters of Arbois and this delightful red is one of the best places to start if you're not familiar with his wines. A blend of Ploussard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir it is full of raspberry and cranberry fruit with a perfume of roses and geraniums. Let it open for a short period of time and the spices begin to flow out. A light to medium bodied wine that is just pretty on the palate.

2013 Domaine André & Mireille Tissot Chardonnay "Les Graviers" Arbois Blanc

92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Arbois Chardonnay les Graviers is a Chardonnay selection from chalky soils. Chalk behaved quite well in a rainy vintage like 2013. There is a combination of yeasty and wet chalk aromas; it is elegant, serious and with depth. This is all old vines. It is a serious wine with plenty of lees and soil reminiscences. The texture is different, finer here, more elegant and there’s an electric feeling to this. This is a great Chardonnay. (LG)" (10/2015) 92 points Vinous: "Bright yellow. 2014 Domaine du Pelican Chardonnay Arbois Blanc

Though the 2014 has yet to be professionally reviewed, the 2013 earned 90 points and praise from the Wine Advocate: "The bunches for the 2013 Arbois Chardonnay were pressed directly and the must fermented in barrel, where it also aged for one year. Only 10% of the barrels are new here. The oak is very well integrated; it's a pure style of white, you can say it’s a Burgundy style, but it certainly has fresher acidity and the oak does not add that much creaminess. The wine has more tension and purity. A noteworthy Chardonnay... Domaine du Pélican is the na... Read More »

The grapes were hand-destemmed and it doesn’t show because I felt some stemmy character there; it's somehow herbal with aromas of green tea and white flowers. It’s very open now, aromatic and exotic I’d say. It’s tasty and somehow earthy with a fine-grained texture. He likes to do this wine for fun. (LG)" (10/2015)
