2014 Stags' Leap Winery Napa Valley Petite Sirah

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Petite Sirah, which is their basic introductory model, so to speak, is a sensational wine in its own right. Opaque purple-colored, loads of white flowers, blueberries and blackberries are present in this wine, which should drink well for 20-25 years A winery often confused with the Stags Leap Wine Cellars, but owned by the giant Treasuries Wines consortium, they are doing some creative work and making extremely interesting wines. 91+ Points (RP)" (12/2016)

2013 Le P'tit Paysan Monterey County Petite Sirah

From the winery: "Picked at atypically low sugars for the variety. Fermented in small lots with some stem inclusion and some native yeasts. Aged on lees in less than 10% new oak. From a limestone and shale rich block on Pierce Ranch in southern Monterey County. We pick Petite Sirah from two blocks in the Y-Ranch section of the Pierce Vineyard. Block 1 is a west facing rocky hillside littered with chunks of white limestone, which at times are as large as two fists. "

2015 Bedrock "Drummond's Cuvée" California Petite Sirah

94-96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A barrel sample of the 2015 Petite Sirah Drummond’s Cuvée comes primarily from Mendocino’s Eaglepoint Ranch, which used to make up Sean Thackrey’s Sirius Syrah. This massive, rich, concentrated Petite Sirah is a 50-year wine. Black as a moonless night, it displays notes of graphite, incense, camphor, blueberry and blackberry liqueur. It is still in barrel, but it’s a monster. More on this once it’s in bottle next year. Everybody should recognize the incredible speed at which Morgan Twain-Peterson has built his Bedrock Wine Co. into a world-class perform ...Read More »

2013 Jeff Cohn Cellars "Sweetwater Springs Vineyard" Russian River Valley Petite Sirah

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Lastly, the 100% Petite Sirah 2013 Landy Sweetwater Springs Vineyard is another 200-case cuvée from a steep hillside vineyard planted in loamy clay and alluvial soils. This wine spent 16 months in 100% new French oak prior to being bottled. It is a powerhouse at 15.5% natural alcohol. Absolutely sensational Petite Sirah, right up there with some of the greatest from California, this killer effort has an inky purple color and a beautiful nose of blueberries, black raspberries, blackberries and floral notes, but it is remarkably concentrated, full-bodied a ...Read More »

2002 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah

93-95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2002 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard (400 cases) represents the essence of this varietal. It is an intriguing, provocative effort boasting an inky/purple color as well as a sumptuous nose of graphite intermixed with melted licorice, espresso, chocolate, blackberries, blueberries, and concentrated creme de cassis. Pepper and flower-like aromas are also present, but no oak is noticeable in this massively extracted, phenomenally rich, shockingly well-balanced Petite Syrah. Its purity and palate impression are fantastic. (RP)" (12/2003) 94 points Vinous: "Healthy bright ruby; re ...Read More »

2014 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah

94-97 points Vinous: "A deep, powerful wine, the 2014 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard is also the most explosive of these Petites. Inky dark fruit, wild flowers, graphite and savory herbs all raced across the palate in a wine endowed with pure energy and concentration. This viscerally thrilling Petite is going to require patience, but it is pretty special, even today. (AG)" (10/2015) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard was the most closed down and tightest of all of Turley’s Petite Syrahs. It has a dark ruby/purple color, but judging it on its current showing rather than its histo ...Read More »

2015 Jaffurs "Thompson Vineyard" Santa Barbara County Petite Sirah

This unlikely release from Pinot Noir territory is "Always one of my favorite Petite Sirahs," says Wine Asdvocate's Jeb Dunnuck in his 94-point review of the 2012. The 2014 wasn't far behind at 92 points, and we're waiting on the 2015--but it's a pretty good bet.

2005 Turley "Hayne Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Syrah

92-94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Not surprisingly, one of the great Petite Syrahs made in this vintage has again come from the Hayne Vineyard. Turley’s inky/blue/purple-tinged 2005 Petite Syrah Hayne Vineyard possesses a boatload of tannin as well as a fabulously concentrated attack and mid-palate. This full-bodied monster reveals beautiful purity and intensity as well as a superb attack and richness. Give it 4-5 years of cellaring and drink it over the next 20-25 years. (RP)" (12/2006) 93 points Vinous: "Healthy bright ruby. Pure, sexy nose combines blackberry, gunflint and dark chocolate. Plush, silky and ...Read More »

2004 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah (95RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Petite Sirah is one of the most compelling examples of this varietal that I have ever tasted from California. As longtime readers know, I believe this is the most underrated varietal in California, but it’s not exactly a fun wine to drink young. After 10-15 years of age, it often reveals more character than many more expensive reds. Bob Foley has fashioned a true blockbuster that should age for three decades, but should be accessible when young given its abundant extraction and richness. The softness of the tannins and the wine’s silky, voluptuous character suggest it can be consumed over the next 2-3 years, but it will not reveal many secondary nuances for 5-6 more years. An inky/black/ruby color is accompanied by notes of incense, fruit cake, blackberries, chocolate, and roasted coffee. Although it has huge body as well as massive concentration, nothing is out

Of the 2007 Switchback Ridge "Peterson Family Vineyard" Napa Valley Petite Sirah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "95+ points. The monster 2007 Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard is a massively concentrated, huge, tannic wine that needs a good 7-8 years of cellaring and should keep 20 years. It will be another legend for Petite Sirah, but unless you are a patient connoisseur, few people will ever get to see it at its best. (RP)" (12/2009)

2005 Turley "Rattlesnake Ridge" Howell Mountain Petite Syrah

91-93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Although pinched with screeching tannins, the backward, unevolved 2005 Petite Syrah Rattlesnake Ridge will repay those who have the foresight to lay it away for 10-15 years. It is loaded with potential, but is nearly impenetrable at present. 91-93+ (RP)" (12/2006) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby color. Knockout nose combines black fruits, smoke, licorice, pepper and a strong rocky character. Quite suave on entry, then thick but vibrant in the middle, with powerful, well- integrated acidity accentuating the impression of intensity. A very tactile, concentrated petite sirah wit ...Read More »

Of the 2007 Robert Foley Napa Valley Petite Sirah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The black/purple 2007 Petite Sirah may well be around in 50-60 years, when most of us will be pushing up daisies. In fact, it probably needs to be forgotten for 8-10 years. A massive, pedal-to-the-metal Petite Sirah that looks like pen ink, the wine displays notes of creosote, pepper, spice box, blackberry, and blueberry, with hints of incense and floral undertones. It is dense and almost looks like syrup being poured into a glass. It is obviously not for everybody, as it is certainly a controversial New World wine, but these wines will become more and more civilized as they age, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this one is spoken of with reverence 40-50 years from now. 95+ (RP)"

2010 Dehlinger "Guadagni Bros.Vineyard" Dry Creek Valley Petite Sirah

93 points Connoisseurs Guide: "Deep, dense and downright brooding on the nose and absolutely immense in the mouth, Dehlinger's is a Petite that pushes the limits in terms of extract and ripeness, but it is also one marked by extraordinary fruity depth. It is a wine of big bones and muscle, and it cares nothing for refinement or nuance, but Petite Sirah devotees who believe that their favorite wine can never be too big or too rich are sure to find boundless pleasures here." (7/2013) 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Petite Sirah Guadagni Brothers Vineyard is just as intense as it was last year. A huge, powerful ...Read More »
