2014 Claiborne & Churchill Central Coast Gewürztraminer

From the winery: "Without a doubt, Dry Gewurztraminer has been an essential part of our operation over the past 32 years. We have been fortunate enough to have guests from around the country (and the world) seek out this signature wine, and for good reason. The balance of varietal spice, aromatics, and upfront fruit make our Gewurz a fan favorite. And fortunately, just when the 2013 vintage is selling out, here comes the 2014 Dry Gewurztraminer to the rescue. This bright and tropical Alsatian-style wine is the first white wine to be released from the mos... Read More »

2012 Hubert Meyer Gewürztraminer Vendage Tardive Alsace (Previously $42)

This is an expressive and intense style of Gewurztraminer. Loads of rich & ripe exotic flowers and fruits jump out of the glass and slip right onto the palate. For such a young wine this shows very nice complexity and has quite the range of power guiding it through. If pairing with food go with a selection of strong cheeses or maybe a pork roast rubbed in Asian spices then slow roasted for hours. Heck, if you have some Foie Gras lying around… Or, if you happen to be a student of wine, this is a fun play on late harvest sweetness vs. power. (Eric Story, A... Read More »

2013 Gundlach Bundschu Sonoma Coast Gewürztraminer

Wine Enthusiast: "From old vines planted on the Mayacamas Mountains, this Gewurz is pungent in lychee and grapefruit, a trace of pepper, ginger and clove hiding beneath the surface. Medium-bodied and dry, it offers a rich interplay between herb and spice plus freshness on the finish." (10/2014)

2012 Zind Humbrecht Clos Windsbuhl Gewürztraminer Alsace

93-95 points Antonio Galloni: "Pale straw. Pristine aromas of canned pineapple, ripe pear, apple juice and white flowers. Silky and precise in the mouth, with complex, deep tropical fruit and flint framed by harmonious acidity. Finishes with a compelling floral perfume. The older Muschelkalk limestone soils of the Clos Windsbuhl really deliver a more feminine, graceful style of Gewürztraminer. This will match perfectly with a lightly curried dish. (ID)" (4/2015)93 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Cellar Selection* Intensely perfumed, this rich wine has also kept a fresher side. It’s very fruity at this stage, with mango ...Read More »

2012 Stony Hill Napa Valley Gewurztraminer

"The quantity may change, and dramatically, but the quality never! Our 2012 Gewurztraminer is floral elegance in a bottle. It's and intensely aromatic wine with hints of honeysuckle and citrus, and on the tongue it has a bright cirtus taste, some say grapefruit, some say orange peel. This lively mouth feel is followed by a generous viscosity on the finish, which is surprising for so young a wine." (from the winery)

2006 Ökonomierat Rebholz Gewürztraminer Spätlese

90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale golden yellow. Supple aromas of rose petal, nutmeg and clove. The juicy passion fruit flavors are nicely embedded in the creamy texture. The bright but refined minerality currently hides the wine's residual sugar. This is fun to drink! (JP)" (1/2008) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Rebholz’s 2006 Gewurztraminer Spatlese delivers classic rose petal, mint, cinnamon, and smoked meat aromas; a lush palate with barely noticeable sweetness; and a satisfyingly juicy finish not marred by any excess of alcohol or bitterness. It should drink nicely for at least 5-7 years. (By contrast, the co ...Read More »

2013 TWR (Te Whare Ra) Gewurztraminer Marlborough

97 points Raymond Chan: "Brilliant pale straw-yellow colour with lemony hues. The nose is elegantly full and densely concentrated, unfolding fine-featured waves of exotic florals, rose petals and Turkish Delight. The richness and presence is sensational and the finesse of expression exquisite. Medium in sweetness, the seamlessness of texture and refined unctuousness is the feature on palate, with considerable fruit extract forming a concentrated core. Flavours of honey, florals and musk are beautifully presented with a luscious density. The acidity is discreet and alcoholic driv ...Read More »

2001 Williams Selyem "Vista Verde" Late Harvest Gewurztraminer (375ml)

89 (+?) points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Pale green-tinged gold color. High-toned aromas of peach, apricot, clove and cinnamon. Not at all unctuous or thick; in fact a bit tart-edged, with slightly shrill flavors of orange peel and overripe pineapple framed by fresh acidity. This is even sweeter than the 2000 version at 16% residual sugar (it's carrying more alcohol as well), and yet the acids seem harder too, at least today. Additional Recommended California Wines."
