2012 Condado de Haza Ribera del Duero

93 points Wine Spectator: "*Smart Buys* This rich red shows a deep core of plum, bramble and mineral, with notes of loam and game that impart a savory character. Solid tannins support a thick texture, while balsamic acidity keeps this balanced. Austere but harmonious. Drink now through 2024." (5/2016) K&L Notes: Alejandro Fernandez' Condado de Haza may be less famous than its sister winery, Pesquera, but it also produces terrific wines that are classically built Ribera del Dueros. These wines are made not to coat the palate with sweet oak and glycerine, but rather to age gracefully and accompa... Read More »

2014 Lambuena Roble Ribera del Duero (Previously $13) Top Pick!
2014 Lambuena Roble Ribera del Duero (Previously $13)

Located in the town of Roa, which is part of the Burgos district, Lambuena is a producer of D.O. Ribera del Duero wines and is one of our newest Spanish direct imports. Ideally situated in the central growing region of the Ribera del Duero, in an area known for the very high quality of its chalky clay soils and its extreme continental climate, Lambuena makes big, generously fruited, yet structured and ultimately classic Ribera del Duero wines, very difficult to find these days in this D.O. A careful hand harvest and native yeast fermentation in tank fo... Read More »

2013 Finca Villacreces "Pruno" Ribera del Duero Top Pick!
2013 Finca Villacreces "Pruno" Ribera del Duero

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I’ve loved this wine in the past and the 2013, a blend of 90% Tempranillo and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged 12 months in French oak, is stunning, simply over-delivering in so many different ways. This wine, which offers up copious quantities, of blueberry, black raspberry and black currant fruit, licorice, graphite and meaty notes, offers fabulous aromatics, medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, beautiful, pure texture and a long, heady finish with subtle oak. What’s amazing is the French oak is all two-year-old, super-expensive Darnajou barrels. For $20 this i ...Read More »

2011 Finca Villacreces Ribera Del Duero (Previously $30) Top Pick!
2011 Finca Villacreces Ribera Del Duero (Previously $30)

94 points Decanter: "This wine could also be in my 12 greatest Riberas. Delicious, complex, finely sewn, open. Top quality, and at a bargain price. (PBT)" (1/2016) 92 points Vinous: "Opaque purple. Exotic aromas of black and blue fruit preserves, cherry-vanilla, licorice and peppery spices. Plush and open-knit, offering deeply concentrated dark fruit flavors and hints of candied flowers and spicecake. Supple tannins build with air and add shape to a very long, supple finish that leaves cassis and mocha notes behind. This suave wine has the depth to age but drinks very easily now; it was aged for ...Read More »

2009 Valsotillo Reserva Ribera del Duero

This is a fantastic example of what put Ribera del Duero on the map in the early 1980's. Aromas show intense, yet perfumed and layered dark fruits, along with a hint of earthy walnut shells in the background. On the palate the fruit is black and brightly energetic. There is an underlying floral quality which adds lift to such an intensely flavored wine. Simply put, this is a great bottle of wine to drink now or put away for long while; it will surely go the distance. (Joe Manekin, K&L Spanish wine buyer)

2012 Pago de los Capellanes Reserva Ribera del Duero

95 points Wine Spectator: "***Highly Recommended*** This polished red shows power and grace. Black cherry, currant and licorice flavors are fresh and clean, backed by mineral, loamy earth and espresso notes. The firm tannins are well-integrated, and juicy acidity gives way to a floral finish. Not showy, but harmonious and long. Drink now through 2025. 4,000 cases made. (TM)" (8/2016) 93 points Wine & Spirits: "A selection from estate vineyards near Pedrosa del Duero, this tempranillo feels like a Romanesque cathedral, austere, without many frills, but with that sense of solidity and serenity in its structure. ...Read More »

2013 Bodegas Alejandro Fernandez "Pesquera" Crianza Tinto Ribera del Duero

Wine Spectator: "Black cherry and red plum flavors are fresh and lively in this juicy red. Light, firm tannins and citrusy acidity keep this focused. Balanced and energetic. Drink now through 2023. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. (TM)" (9/2016) K&L Notes: Alejandro Fernandez is rightfully a Spanish icon, having been one of the early pioneers in the Ribera del Duero D.O. He is a champion of the local Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grape variety, and has proven time and time again that his vines around Pesquera del Duero consistently produce rich, powerful, fragrant, and elegant Ribera ... 2010 Vega Sicilia "Valbuena" Ribera del Duero

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Since the 2010 harvest, they ferment plot by plot, and it shows. This Valbuena has almost 100 components in it, smaller lots, all of them corresponding to a plot of vines. It has all the signs of being one of the best vintages ever for this second wine from Vega Sicilia, mostly Tempranillo but with 5% Merlot that matured five months in 20,000-liter oak vats, 18 months in new barriques (equal parts French and American oak), three months in used barrels and then five months in the vats again before being bottled in May 2013. 2010 seems to have the exuberan ...Read More »

2011 Vega Sicilia "Valbuena" Ribera del Duero

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Valbuena was fermented plot by plot, something they started after a deep soil study in the 2010 vintage. 2011 was a very warm and ripe vintage in the zone, and the challenge was to keep the freshness. There are more black fruit aromas, subtle spices and hints of complexity, as well as tertiary aromas that are quite classic and turn more balsamic with time in the glass. Again, this is very different form the 2012 Alión, rounder, riper, richer, more polished, mellow, soft, quite exuberant and hedonistic. (LG)" (10/2015) 92 points Wine Spectator: "Flavors of black cherry, kirs ...Read More »

2001 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The opaque ruby/purple-colored, firmly-structured 2001 Pingus is more closed and backward than the extravagantly rich, flamboyant 2000. It offers great fruit on the attack along with huge body, and notes of grilled meats intermixed with Provencal herbs, pepper, spice box, cigar smoke, and copious quantities of barbecue smoke-infused blackberry and cassis flavors. The finish lasts for nearly a minute. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2028. (RP)" (4/2004) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Deep, bright ruby-red. Cherry, licorice and smoked meat at the outset; then exploded with raspberry fruit. Lus ...Read More »

2000 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The millennial Pingus is a fabulous wine from Peter Sisseck. It is endowed with a riveting, intense, vivacious bouquet of liquorice, creme de cassis, peppermint and kirsch and blossoms in the glass. The palate is fully loaded with glycerine-rich black fruit that lends it an unctuous texture that is neatly counterbalanced by requisite acidity. This is the Pingus that the 1998 wanted to be. (NM)" (8/2012) 95 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright ruby to the rim. Initially cool aromas of blackberry, coffee, mocha and lead pencil; showed a chocolatey aspect with 24 hours in the recorked bottle ...Read More »

Vega Sicilia "Unico" Reserva Especial Ribera del Duero (2013 release)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Release (I could write the same note for all three wines) has a beautifully complex bouquet, a silky-smooth texture, elegance, and a long, pure finish. It should drink well for another 25 years. ...On the occasion of my visit in May 2010, the three Reserva Especials already in bottle and awaiting release were tasted side by side. They are identified (for the purposes of this review only) as the 2013 Release, the 2012 Release, and the 2011 Release. I was not told what vintages are in each bottling but it actually makes little difference. The Re ...Read More »

2004 Dominio de Pingus "Flor de Pingus" Ribera del Duero
Bid on this bottle of 2004 Dominio de Pingus "Flor de Pingus" Ribera del Duero (98RP, 93ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The sublime 2004 Flor de Pingus lacks the pure size and power of the 2005 but more than makes up for it with a regal elegance. The aromatics are already revealing considerable complexity while on the palate it is succulent, impeccably balanced, and mouth-coating. Give it another 5-6 years of bottle age and drink it from 2015 to 2034. (JM)" (06/2010)

2014 Quinta da Muradella Alanda Blanco Monterrei

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "2014 was not an easy vintage, there were up to 40 liters of rain during the harvest, not that it's noticeable in the 2014 Alanda Blanco, which is the house blend of white grapes and soils; this wines mixes newer and older vineyards, and is co-fermented without any clarification or settling of the must with indigenous yeasts. The nose is completely mineral, a soil-driven profile, austere, reminiscent of wet granite stones, a really lovely nose. The palate is sharp, vertical, focused, clean and precise, with austere granite minerality that translate into a ...Read More »

1998 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero

92-93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Saturated ruby-red. Highly nuanced nose of black- and redcurrant, raspberry, Cuban tobacco, minerals, brown spices and currant leaf. Large-scaled but sharply delineated, though less sweet and a bit heavier than the '99. Shows the intriguing Provençal herb component that I've found in just about every vintage of Pingus. Finishes very long, with firm acids and tannins. With 48 hours in the recorked bottle, this showed exotic spices and white pepper, and a Burgundian finesse. Perhaps not quite as thick as I thought a year ago; or perhaps it is simply overw ...Read More »

2003 Figuero "Noble" Ribero del Duero (Previously $120)

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This is an impressive lineup from Garcia Figuero. Each of the wines is 100% Tempranillo from estate vineyards but differ in terms of oak treatment and vineyard selection. The grand finale is the 2003 Figuera Noble. The grapes for this superb effort are from estate vineyards over 70 years of age. The wine was aged in new barrels for 21 months, the first 15 in American oak, and the last 6 months in French Allier and Troncais oak.
