2016 Powell & Son Roussanne-Marsanne Barossa Valley South Australia (Previously $40)

92 points Wine Spectator: "Rich, with smooth and creamy peach, apricot and Asian pear flavors, accented by spicy toast and a whiff of roasted fennel. The supple texture and detailed finish go on and on. Drink now through 2027. 150 cases made." K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "Our Roussanne Marsanne is based on the style of the great Hermitage Blancs of the Northern Rhone Valley. We aim for richness, minerality and hedonism in this, our most premium white wine. While floral, bright in fruit and pretty in youth this wine should age to become savoury, complex and decadent in years to come." 94+ p... Read More »

2015 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc

100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Matching the otherworldly 2009, the 2015 Hermitage Blanc is a perfect wine and certainly one of the greatest whites ever made from this hallowed estate. The normal blend of 80% Marsanne and 20% Roussanne from the l’Ermite, Péleat, and les Rocoules lieux-dits, it exhibits a huge, opulent bouquet of buttered citrus, flower oil, orange marmalade, quince, and honeysuckle that’s to die for. This majestic, full-bodied Hermitage Blanc has a huge mid-palate, thrilling purity of fruit, and a finish that won’t quit. It’s capable of lasting for 4-5 decades, but sti ...Read More »

2016 Domaine des Remizières "Cuvée Emilie" Hermitage Blanc

93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Almost entirely Marsanne from two parcels in the Maison Blanche lieu-dit, the 2016 Hermitage Cuvee Emilie Blanc shows little oak on the nose, despite having been barrel-fermented in close to two-thirds new oak. Hints of toasted grain do pop up, but the dominant features are melon, citrus and zesty, briny length. This should age well. (JC)" (12/2017) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Seductive, with creamed melon, pear, apricot and apple fruit flavors gliding together, stitched with warm brioche and macadamia nut notes. Opulent finish. (JM)" (12/2017) K&L Notes: The Desmeures family of Domaine des Remiz... Read More »

2015 E. Guigal Hermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

94 points Decanter: "Made from a blend of purchased wines and purchased grapes vinified by Guigal. The same sectors are included each year, mostly on the alluvial soils of the eastern flank of the hill. It has a pretty nose, with some good fruit coming through alongside hints of honeysuckle, marzipan and cashew in a fairly oaky style. It has a very silky palate, rich with generous puppy fat and glycerol, but not huge in fruit concentration. It's a large, plump style, balanced by good freshness and lift. (MW)" (10/2017) 94 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 2015 Hermitage Blanc showed beautifully. From a number ...Read More »

2016 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

98-100 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Leading off the three single vineyard whites, the 2016 Ermitage Cuvée De L’Orée is a huge, unctuous white that delivers the goods. Orange marmalade, buttered citrus, honeycomb and brioche all soar from the glass. Possessing a thick, full-bodied style, huge mid-palate concentration, and a great, great finish, it's one of the world's greatest dry whites, year in, year out, and 2016 isn’t going to break that trend." (1/2018) 97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As usual, Chapoutier's sélections parcellaires are stunning. The 2016 Ermitage de l'Oree from Les Murets' clay soils combines hints of h ...Read More »

2015 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2015 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Of the three sélection parcellaire whites, the 2015 Ermitage de l’Orée is the most fresh and lively, with full-bodied richness and depth in its pineapple, mint, tropical fruits, toasted bread, brioche and liquid rock-styled aromas and flavors. It has good acidity, a stacked mid-palate and one seriously long finish. Not enough can be said about the quality that consistently comes from this estate. From the top to the bottom of the range, you can’t go wrong. (JD)" (12/2016) 97 points Decanter: "Tight bouquet, deep mass of jumbled fruits. Glorious and fat in a complex, provocat ...Read More »

2014 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc

98 points Wine Spectator: "Honeysuckle, verbena and chamomile aromas stream out first, followed by a remarkably creamy core of yellow apple, white peach, heather honey and warm mirabelle plum notes. Hazelnut oil and brioche line the finish, adding considerable length. Despite all the lushness and depth, this manages to maintain a sense of tension and precision as well. Amazing wine. (JM)" (7/2017) 97 points James Suckling: "White peach, grilled hazelnuts and plenty of yellow citrus fruits with dried meadow flowers. The palate has impressive glycerol-laden texture. Lemon and lime citrus ride on a smooth and ex ...Read More »

2007 M. Chapoutier "Vin de Paille" Ermitage (375ml) (Previously $145)

94 points Vinous: "Green-gold color. Extremely spicy aromas of minerals, cinnamon, clove and lemon. Dusty citrus and peach flavors gain sweetness with air, picking up hints of spun sugar and floral honey. Very fresh, with excellent finishing cut and lingering spiciness. This fascinating wine deftly plays sweetness against energy. (JR)" (1/2009)

2015 M. Chapoutier "Le Méal" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another perfect wine is the 2015 Ermitage le Meal Blanc. The most decadent, unctuous and layered in the lineup, with to-die-for notes of white currants, toasted nuts, celery seed and licorice, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a huge mid-palate and a refreshing, pure, yet blockbuster finish that just won’t quit. If I had to pick a desert island white, this might be it." (12/2016) 96 points Vinous: "Lurid yellow-gold. Penetrating aromas of ripe, mineral-accented citrus and pit fruits are complicated by hints of chalky minerals, saffron and chamomile. Juicy, smoky ...Read More »

2009 M. Chapoutier "Vin de Paille" Ermitage (375ml)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are two wines readers should keep an eye out for, even though they are very limited in availability (just under 300 cases of each). Both are potentially immortal offerings. The 2009 Ermitage Vin de Paille and 2010 Ermitage Vin de Paille are both made from the l’Ermite lieu-dit. Both possess deep gold colors as well as off-the-chart levels of residual sugar, acidity and concentration. These massive, unctuously textured, phenomenally great sweet dessert wines have incredible precision as well as intensity. Available only in half bottles, these connoi ...Read More »

2007 M. Chapoutier "L'Ermite" Ermitage Blanc

98-100 points Robert Parker: "Another candidate for perfection is the 2007 Ermitage l'Ermite blanc. A nectar of rocks, honeysuckle, quince, pears, and white peaches, this super-expressive, full-bodied, thick, glycerin-endowed wine is another example of a massive white Hermitage that can not be found anywhere else in the world. It should last for 35-50 years." (04/09) 94 points Wine Spectator: "This has layers of creamy fig, pear, peach and apple fruit flavors, laced with grilled hazelnut and sweetened butter notes that glide through the very long, very p... 2010 M. Chapoutier "Vin de Paille" Ermitage (375ml)

99 points Wine Spectator: "Very intense, with a tightly focused beam of apricot eau-de-vie, quince, green almond, heather honey, orange zest and persimmon notes that are both rich and lacy at the same time. A wine of bewildering range and stunning precision. Drink now through 2050. (JM)" (10/2013) 94 points Vinous: "Bright gold. Exuberant pear, peach and honey aromas, with anise, ginger and nutmeg qualities adding complexity. Bright, sweet ginger- and mineral-accented orchard fruit flavors show excellent depth and clarity, with an orange peel note adding back-end cut. Expands with air and finishes wit ...Read More »

2006 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K Straw Man" Marsanne Vin de Paille (375ml) Back In Stock!
2006 Sine Qua Non "Mr. K Straw Man" Marsanne Vin de Paille (375ml)

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2006 Mr. K The Strawman Marsanne Vin de Paille is 100% Marsanne from the Beckmen Vineyard that boasts 240 grams of residual sugar per liter. A medium gold-colored effort, it reveals more marmalade notes interwoven with notions of maple syrup, honeysuckle, and exotic tropical fruits. While untuously-textured with remarkable sweetness, it is not cloying because of the fresh acids. I have no idea how long these wines will last, but they will undoubtedly keep for many years. 2014 Tintype Winery Sierra Foothills Marsanne

Winemaker's Notes: "Grown at 3000 ft outside of Placerville, this high altitude Marsanne is the perfect winter white. Rich and round, yet totally dry it shows aromas of almond and citrus blossom. The night before harvest, we camped in the vineyard under bright mountain stars. We woke at dawn and began harvesting with the vineyard crew. We didn't sleep until we had hauled our cargo back to Mendocino and pressed the beautiful fruit into a single stainless fermentation tank. The juice fermented slowly on the ambient yeasts with a micro addition of organi... Read More »

1998 M. Chapoutier "Vin de Paille" Ermitage (375ml)

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 1998 M. Chapoutier Hermitage Vin de Paille, like the ’07, is 100% Marsanne that’s aged for 2 months on straw mats prior to pressing and aging in new oak. It shows an aged sauterne like bouquet of dried honeycomb, crème brûlée, vanilla bean, and ripe fruit that slowly builds in the glass, revealing huge richness, as well as impressive complexity and nuance. Very full and powerful on the palate, with a firm, edgy texture, serious concentration, and a massive finish, this leans more towards the dry dessert wine spectrum and doesn’t have an overt amount ...Read More »
