2016 Powell & Son Roussanne-Marsanne Barossa Valley South Australia

92 points Wine Spectator: "Rich, with smooth and creamy peach, apricot and Asian pear flavors, accented by spicy toast and a whiff of roasted fennel. The supple texture and detailed finish go on and on. Drink now through 2027. 150 cases made." K&L Notes: Winemaker's Notes: "Our Roussanne Marsanne is based on the style of the great Hermitage Blancs of the Northern Rhone Valley. We aim for richness, minerality and hedonism in this, our most premium white wine. While floral, bright in fruit and pretty in youth this wine should age to become savoury, complex and decadent in years to come." 94+ p... Read More »

2015 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival) Top Pick!
2015 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Of the three sélection parcellaire whites, the 2015 Ermitage de l’Orée is the most fresh and lively, with full-bodied richness and depth in its pineapple, mint, tropical fruits, toasted bread, brioche and liquid rock-styled aromas and flavors. It has good acidity, a stacked mid-palate and one seriously long finish. (JD)" (12/2016) 97 points Decanter: "Tight bouquet, deep mass of jumbled fruits. Glorious and fat in a complex, provocative wine. In a different league. Drinking Window 2018 - 2038" (3/2017) 94-96 points Vinous: "Limpid gold. Pungent Meyer lemon, candied pear and vanilla scents show super ...Read More »

2016 Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage Blanc

The principal white grapes in Syrah-dominated Hermitage and Crozes-Hermitage have received so much attention as "Rhone Ranger" varietals in California, it's worth revisiting Marsanne and Roussanne on their home turf. Alain Graillot, who founded his domaine in Crozes-Hermitage in 1985 and rapidly became one of the hottest producers thereabouts, made this wine from hand-picked Marsanne and Roussanne, fermented and aged in older oak barrels before release. This is classic white Crozes, and made for food, particularly freshwater fish like rainbow trout!

2014 M. Chapoutier "Les Granits" Saint-Joseph Blanc

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The white of the vintage in Saint Joseph is the 2014 Saint Joseph les Granits Blanc. Coming all from one of the top terroirs in the region, the granite soils of the lieu-dit Saint Joseph, this 100% Marsanne release boasts terrific aromas and flavors of buttered citrus, poached pears, honeysuckle, spice and caramelized pineapple. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and textured, yet also elegant and silky, it should be a must buy by anyone who loves northern Rhône whites. (JD)" (12/2015) 93 points Wine Spectator: "Ripe, but restrained in style, with a core of creamed yellow apple, anise, ...Read More »

2014 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc

98 points Wine Spectator: "Honeysuckle, verbena and chamomile aromas stream out first, followed by a remarkably creamy core of yellow apple, white peach, heather honey and warm mirabelle plum notes. Hazelnut oil and brioche line the finish, adding considerable length. Despite all the lushness and depth, this manages to maintain a sense of tension and precision as well. Amazing wine. (JM)" (7/2017) 97 points James Suckling: "White peach, grilled hazelnuts and plenty of yellow citrus fruits with dried meadow flowers. The palate has impressive glycerol-laden texture. Lemon and lime citrus ride on a smooth and ex ...Read More »

2010 M. Chapoutier "Vin de Paille" Ermitage (375ml)

99 points Wine Spectator: "Very intense, with a tightly focused beam of apricot eau-de-vie, quince, green almond, heather honey, orange zest and persimmon notes that are both rich and lacy at the same time. A wine of bewildering range and stunning precision. Drink now through 2050. (JM)" (10/2013) 94 points Vinous: "Bright gold. Exuberant pear, peach and honey aromas, with anise, ginger and nutmeg qualities adding complexity. Bright, sweet ginger- and mineral-accented orchard fruit flavors show excellent depth and clarity, with an orange peel note adding back-end cut. Expands with air and finishes wit ...Read More »

2003 M. Chapoutier "Vin de Paille" Ermitage (375ml)

99 points Wine Spectator: "This singular sweet wine delivers jaw-dropping fruit--mango, papaya, blood orange and glazed peach--with a nervy spine buried in its creamy texture. Marzipan- and mineral-filled finish evaporates slowly, leaving a firm but mouthwatering impression behind. Drink now through 2025. (JM)" (3/2006) 93 points Vinous: "Deep gold. Intense, complex aromas of dried apricot and honey. Thick, silky and superconcentrated, with distinctly wild flavors of apricot, truffle and damp earth. Conveys a tactile impression of extract. The '02 version is much fresher but not as honeyed, notes Mazo ...Read More »

2007 M. Chapoutier "L'Ermite" Ermitage Blanc

98-100 points Robert Parker: "Another candidate for perfection is the 2007 Ermitage l'Ermite blanc. A nectar of rocks, honeysuckle, quince, pears, and white peaches, this super-expressive, full-bodied, thick, glycerin-endowed wine is another example of a massive white Hermitage that can not be found anywhere else in the world. It should last for 35-50 years." (04/09) 94 points Wine Spectator: "This has layers of creamy fig, pear, peach and apple fruit flavors, laced with grilled hazelnut and sweetened butter notes that glide through the very long, very p... 2000 Chapoutier "De L'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2000 Chapoutier "De L'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (1.5L) (100RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "These wines usually flirt with perfection, which is the case with the 2000 Ermitage Cuvee de l’Oree. It boasts an amazing nose of licorice, minerals, acacia flowers, honeysuckle, and a hint of butter. Unctuously-textured and full-bodied, with great intensity and purity, yet remarkably light on its feet, it can be drunk over the next 3-4 years, then forgotten for a decade, after which it will last for 40-50 years. 1998 M. Chapoutier "Vin de Paille" Ermitage (375ml)

95 points Jeb Dunnuck: "The 1998 M. Chapoutier Hermitage Vin de Paille, like the ’07, is 100% Marsanne that’s aged for 2 months on straw mats prior to pressing and aging in new oak. It shows an aged sauterne like bouquet of dried honeycomb, crème brûlée, vanilla bean, and ripe fruit that slowly builds in the glass, revealing huge richness, as well as impressive complexity and nuance. Very full and powerful on the palate, with a firm, edgy texture, serious concentration, and a massive finish, this leans more towards the dry dessert wine spectrum and doesn’t have an overt amount ...Read More »

2007 M. Chapoutier "Vin de Paille" Ermitage (375ml)

94 points Vinous: "Green-gold color. Extremely spicy aromas of minerals, cinnamon, clove and lemon. Dusty citrus and peach flavors gain sweetness with air, picking up hints of spun sugar and floral honey. Very fresh, with excellent finishing cut and lingering spiciness. This fascinating wine deftly plays sweetness against energy. (JR)" (1/2009)

2012 M. Chapoutier "Les Granits" Saint-Joseph Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Another blockbuster that savvy readers need to buy up, the 2012 Saint Joseph "Les Granits" Blanc is a drop-dead gorgeous wine that offers up tons of crushed rock-like minerality, stone fruits, white peach and buttered citrus to go with a full-bodied, decadent, yet also elegant and focused style on the palate. Count me a fan, and while it's a great drink now, it will have an easy 15+ years of evolution. (JD)" (12/2014) 91-93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light gold. Pear, lemon pith and white flowers on the intensely fragrant nose. Fleshy and expansive on entry, then tighter in the mid-pala ...Read More »

2014 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The thickest, most unctuous, full-bodied and sexy white of the vintage is the 2014 Ermitage de l’Orée. Coming all from the sedimentary soils of the Les Murets and aged mostly in demi-muids (only 15% new), it offers a sensational perfume of caramelized peaches, campfire, honeysuckle and white flowers that literally come soaring from the glass. Possessing uncommon density, a stacked mid-palate, loads of sweet fruit and a blockbuster finish, this hedonistic effort can be drunk with incredibly pleasure today, or cellared for a decade or more. It will have th ...Read More »
