Domaine Remy Nodin Saint Peray Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut

Wine Spectator: "This sparkler offers a lovely Jonagold apple core, with hints of ginger, melon rind, star fruit and ginger weaving in and out. The lovely, lightly firm mousse gives the finish cut. Drink now. 200 cases made. (JM)" (5/2015) K&L Notes: Remy Nodin founded his winery in 2008. Prior to that, his fruit was all sold to the large cooperative Cave de Tain. He farms 9 hectares throughout the northern Rhone including holdings in Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas, St. Joseph and Saint-Peray. It is worth noting that Saint-Peray in its heyday produced sparkling wines that commanded more... Read More »

2015 Yves Cuilleron "Les Potiers" Saint-Péray

The Cuilleron family domaine, located in the town of Chavanay, was founded several generations ago. Yves assumed full ownership and direction in 1987 and, since that time, has built an entirely new facility while at the same time acquiring additional vineyard property. The domaine now produces about 50,000 bottles annually divided between the appellations of St-Joseph Blanc, St-Joseph Rouge, Cote-Rotie and Condrieu. This blend of Marsanne and Roussanne is supple and aromatic, with notes of citrus and tropical fruits and lively acidity.

2013 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Leading off three single-vintage whites from Hermitage, the stunning 2013 Ermitage Cuvee de L’Orée has an off-the-hook bouquet that includes just about everything you could think of when considering Hermitage Blanc. White peach, white flowers, almond paste, quince and wet rock are just some of the nuances, and it packs a serious punch on the palate, with full-bodied richness, a flamboyant, expansive texture and riveting focus and purity. Give it a year or so and drink it over the following 2-3 decades. (JD)" (12/2014) 96 points Wine Spectator: "This has a weighty, honeyed feel, with ...Read More »

2014 M. Chapoutier "Les Granits" Saint-Joseph Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The white of the vintage in Saint Joseph is the 2014 Saint Joseph les Granits Blanc. Coming all from one of the top terroirs in the region, the granite soils of the lieu-dit Saint Joseph, this 100% Marsanne release boasts terrific aromas and flavors of buttered citrus, poached pears, honeysuckle, spice and caramelized pineapple. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and textured, yet also elegant and silky, it should be a must buy by anyone who loves northern Rhône whites. (JD)" (12/2015) 92-94 points Vinous: "Limpid gold. A wild, intensely perfumed bouquet evokes fresh orchard and p ...Read More »

2013 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage Blanc

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Chave's 2013 Hermitage Blanc had just been bottled prior to my visit. Always 80% to 85% Marsanne and the rest Roussanne, from the lieux-dits of Rocoules, Peleat, L'Hermite and Maison Blanche, it's raised primarily in barrels with a small percentage new. Loaded with notions of buttered citrus, white currants, liquid rock, white flowers and hints of honeysuckle, this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, beautiful freshness and purity, and a focused, clean, elegant profile that keeps you coming back to the glass. It lacks the sheer wealth of ma ...Read More »

2003 E. Guigal "Ex-Voto" Hermitage Blanc

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Hermitage Ex-Voto blanc is the quintessential white Hermitage, a blend of 95% Marsanne and 5% Roussanne with extraordinary honeyed licorice, quince, marmalade, and truffle notes, an unctuous texture, great purity and richness, and a profound mouthfeel and length. This is extraordinary wine and certainly one of the most profound dry whites I ever tasted. It seems to be set for an amazingly long life. 96+ (RP)" (4/2007) 96 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Medium gold. Incredibly complex bouquet of yellow plum, dried apricot, peach, floral honey, yellow Chartreuse, blonde tobacco and a ...Read More »

2015 M. Chapoutier "Les Granits" St-Joseph Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

Wine Spectator: "The 2015 St-Joseph White Les Granits is its usual stunning self, with a long beam of yellow apple, white ginger and wet stone notes that ripple along through a long quinine accented finish. It's rich and mouthwatering, dense and lithe, a feat that few wines can match. This Marsanne is 100 percent from the lieu-dit St-Joseph, with full east exposure." (10/2016)

2014 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The thickest, most unctuous, full-bodied and sexy white of the vintage is the 2014 Ermitage de l’Orée. Coming all from the sedimentary soils of the Les Murets and aged mostly in demi-muids (only 15% new), it offers a sensational perfume of caramelized peaches, campfire, honeysuckle and white flowers that literally come soaring from the glass. Possessing uncommon density, a stacked mid-palate, loads of sweet fruit and a blockbuster finish, this hedonistic effort can be drunk with incredibly pleasure today, or cellared for a decade or more. It will have th ...Read More »

2014 M. Chapoutier "Le Méal" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

97 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Similar in style to the hedonistically-styled Cuvee de l’Orée (especially when compared to the structured, mineral-laced l’Ermite), the 2014 Ermitage le Méal Blanc (aged in 10% new demi-muids) offers layers of celery seed, brioche, caramelized pineapple and citrus oil on the nose. Thick, rich, voluptuous and full bodied with a massive finish, drink this sensational white anytime over the coming two to three decades. Looking at the 2014 whites from Michel Chapoutier, these are gorgeous wines that show the suppler, more elegant style of the vintage, yet st ...Read More »

2014 Pierre Gonon "Les Oliviers" Saint-Joseph Blanc

93 points Vinous: "Light, bright yellow. Poached pear, white peach, honey and lemon pith on the intensely perfumed, mineral-accented nose. Pliant, deeply concentrated pit and citrus fruit and honeysuckle flavors are complemented by hints of succulent herbs and fennel; bitter quinine adds back-end cut. Closes with powerful punch and serious persistence, leaving behind a note of candied citrus fruits. This bottling has an admirable track record for cellaring. (JR)" (3/2016)

2003 M. Chapoutier "De L'Oree" Ermitage Blanc (1.5L)

99 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Nearly perfect, one of the most prodigious dry white wines I have ever tasted is the 2003 Ermitage Cuvee de l’Oree. A 669-case cuvee fashioned from yields of 10 hectoliters per hectare, it offers aromas and flavors beyond anything I have previously tasted in a dry white. It tastes like a liqueur of licorice intermixed with a liqueur of honeysuckle, quince, and rocks. Opulent, viscous, and full-bodied, at first glance it is seemingly fragile and over the top, but it boasts extraordinary freshness and liveliness as well as monster concentration and a finis ...Read More »

2014 M. Chapoutier "L'Ermite" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The wine of the vintage (and I’ll include all the wines of the northern Rhône, red and white in that grouping) is the 2014 Ermitage l’Ermite Blanc. Always made from 100% Marsanne that comes from the granite soils of the l’Hermite lieu-dit, it was aged 11 months in 25% new demi-muids before being bottled unfined and unfiltered. Its medium-gold color is followed by a heavenly bouquet of liquid rock, hazelnut, caramelized pineapples, stone fruits and quince. Thick, unctuous, full-bodied, thrillingly pure and laser focused with a dry, blockbuster finish that ...Read More »

2013 M. Chapoutier "L'Ermite" Ermitage Blanc

100 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Completing a trifecta of perfect whites, the 2013 Ermitage l’Ermite Blanc is another sensational effort that offers incredible minerality/liquid rock in its pineapple, tangerine, flower oil, mint and caramelized citrus-driven bouquet. Full-bodied and beautiful on the palate, with more tension and focus than the Cuvee de L’Orée or le Meal, it has perfectly balanced richness, structure and freshness, with no hard edges and a blockbuster finish. It won't be accessible for another 3-4 years and will most likely be immortal in the cellar. (JD)" (12/2014) 98 points Wine Spectator: "Beauti ...Read More »

2009 M. Chapoutier "Vin de Paille" Ermitage (375ml) (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "There are two wines readers should keep an eye out for, even though they are very limited in availability (just under 300 cases of each). Both are potentially immortal offerings. The 2009 Ermitage Vin de Paille and 2010 Ermitage Vin de Paille are both made from the l’Ermite lieu-dit. Both possess deep gold colors as well as off-the-chart levels of residual sugar, acidity and concentration. These massive, unctuously textured, phenomenally great sweet dessert wines have incredible precision as well as intensity. Available only in half bottles, these connoi ...Read More »

1999 M. Chapoutier "Le Méal" Ermitage Blanc

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Chapoutier's brilliant 1999 Ermitage Le Meal is essentially a liqueur of white Hermitage. Notes of pear liqueur intertwined with fino sherry, peaches, minerals, nuts, and licorice are offered in an amazingly concentrated, super-extracted style that manages to be delicate as well as precise. This is a 40-50 year dry white, that will undoubtedly close down in 3-4 years and re-emerge a decade later. Along with Gerard and Jean-Louis Chave, Chapoutier is producing the finest expressions of white Hermitage. His single vineyard cuvees are to die for if you like ...Read More »

2015 M. Chapoutier "de l'Orée" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

96 points Decanter: "Brilliant Hermitage richness. Complex and provocative, this is in a different league." (11/2016) Wine Spectator: "Topping the production pyramid here at the Ermitage bottlings, starting with the 2015 Ermitage White de l'Orée which is honeyed and long, with alluring wet straw, heather, pear and yellow apple notes streaming through, carried by a spine of wet stone that echoes authoritatively." 2015 M. Chapoutier "Le Méal" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

2015 M. Chapoutier "L'Ermite" Ermitage Blanc (Pre-Arrival)

Wine Spectator: "The 2015 Ermitage White L'Ermite is scintillating, with a plum of fresh chalk leading the way, followed quickly by verbena, quinine and chamomile notes before finally the white peach fruit catches up. When it does, everything zooms together through a remarkably long finish that has a mouthwatering fleur de sel note buried deeply. It's impossible for me to pick a single desert-island wine, but if I could pick just a few, this would be among them." (10/2016)
