Alvear "1927" Pedro Ximenez Solera Montilla-Moriles (375ml)

98 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Pedro Ximenez Solera 1927 is non-vintage, but does have some 1927 material in it. This is totally dark brown/amber with notes of figs, toffee, caramel syrup, molasses and coffee. It is dense, super sweet, intense, rich and an amazingly, unctuously textured, thick beverage to consume slowly and introspectively after a meal. Drink now through 2050, or even longer. (RP)" (11/2015) 94 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Top 100 Wines of 2012, Editors' Choice* A rank well above most PX sweeties, with lush but fresh aromas of raisin and spice that are distinctly not syrupy or heavy. Tio Pepe (Gonzalez Byass) Fino Sherry

Jancis Robinson: "Salt, fresh green apple, iodine and mushroom with a winning creamy texture and lovely clarity. Excellent, as usual. (RH)" (11/2014) Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Talking about which, the NV Tio Pepe Fino is an icon of Sherry wine. Produced from Palomino grapes aged in the Tio Pepe solera for an average of four years under flor. It has a light nose of dried flowers, almonds and olives, in a subtle way and a dry palate dominated by the chalky notes. Light and easy to drink, it is a good introduction to Fino Sherry. Valdespino "Inocente" Fino Jerez

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Fino Inocente must be one of the few wines in Jerez that is still fermented in 600-liter American oak botas, which is an incredible amount of work compared with fermenting tens of thousands of kilos of grapes (or even more) in a big stainless steel tank. This method was the norm of yesteryear, but is so labor intense that it was discontinued in most wineries, and gives a big diversity of wines, as each barrel has its own character, which contributes to the complexity of the blend. Furthermore, the bottled wine is on average 8 to 10 years old. One ...Read More »

Alexander Jules Amontillado "Singular" K&L Single Barrel 19/27 Sanlucar de Barrameda (Previously $140)

This is an exciting first for us here at K&L: our very own, hand-selected, exclusive barrel of Amontillado! Selected from a 27-barrel solera of VERY OLD (50 year average age) Amontillado that typically is blended into the Amontillado VORS bottling at Argueso. The flavors are, as one would expect of Amontillado this old from one of the great historic houses in Sanlucar, pungent, complex, saline, citric, candied and yet, at the same time, bone dry. There are too many nuances of aroma and flavor to mention in this truly special bottling. This is the second ... Read More »

Lustau Almacenista Oloroso "Pata de Gallina" (500ml)

92 points Wine & Spirits: "Juan García Jarana, the motorcycle magnate of Jerez, sells a portion of his soleras to Lustau for this delicate Oloroso. It starts with notes of candied almonds, coconut palm syrup and caramel. The hint of salinity lends complexity and freshness, without diminishing that delicate, pleasing sweetness." (6/2009) 92 points Wine Enthusiast: "Just add this oloroso to the growing list of excellent Sherries from Lustau. This one is tellingly nutty on the nose, thus the hazelnut and walnut flavors are expected as they become part of a bigger painting that includes coffee, bitter chocolate an ...Read More »

Hidalgo "Napoleon" Amontillado Sanlucar de Barrameda (500ml)

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The medium amber, nutty Napoleon Amontillado is a dry style sherry, also a fine aperitif." (2/2007) Wine & Spirits: "Subtle in its salinity while generous in its nutty flavors, this approachable Amontillado ends on light caramel flavors. For an aperitif with aged goat cheese." (6/2011) K&L Notes: What a terrific Amontillado! Gently toasted nut and candied citrus aromas lead to a subtle, elegant, nutty palate. While the salty, flor qualities are not cranking on all cylinders here, there is an elegance, softness, and long finishing character to this amontillado that makes it one of the ... Read More »

La Guita Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda

92 points Wine Spectator: "*Smart Buys* This round white has texture and grip, with rich and focused flavors of apple, almond, green olive and brine. Offers plenty of fruit, but remains grounded thanks to the briny character. Expressive and balanced." (11/2012) 90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV La Guita Manzanilla has always had a very strong and marked character of brine, green olives and mustard seeds, with an overall sweet sensation. Gutierrez Colosia Fino El Puerto de Santa María

Wine Spectator: "Light, offering crisp, bitter citrus and blanched almond notes, with a hint of tarragon. Refreshing finish. (Web Only—2013)" K&L Notes: This is one of the best, freshest, most representative lighter-style finos around. Gutierrez Colosia enjoys a prime location in El Puerto de Santa Maria, which, due to the confluence of the Atlantic and Guadalete River, allows for the development of a healthy layer of flor year-round to protect their soleras and contribute the tell tale salty, slightly almondy notes to the wine. That acidity imposes its mineral tones, without overshadowing the seductive caramel sensation that lasts. Serve it chilled as a digestif." (6/2011) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Delivers the weight you expect from a PX, but with fresher cut. La Cigarrera Manzanilla Sanlucar de Barrameda (375ml)

A wonderful expression of Manzanilla, the La Cigarrera always comes to us very fresh, expressing the briny, sea air quality for which these wines are known. It is bone dry, appley and has suggestions of loquat fruit and pits, with terrific complexity, no doubt due to the bodega's prime location in the "barrio bajo" section of Sanlucar, as well as its use of an amazing eight criaderas (the norm for these wines is three-to-four). So there is a depth of flavor for Manzanilla which is rare. Enjoy this as a perfect aperitif, or with olives, almonds, shrimp an... Read More »

The sleek finish lets the green tea edge reemerge, with well-embedded acidity for length. Drink now." (10/2013) 90 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Best Buy* Smooth and sweet, like a cream Sherry is supposed to be. On the nose, this one easily shifts from ripe apricot and peach fruit to nuts and saline. It recalls the coasts of Jerez with aromas and flavors of iodine, salt and the signature earthy dampness of Hidalgo's very old soleras. Firm on the palate, with sharp acidity that penetrates the depths of the wine's flavors, this would be delicious with clams sautéed in olive oil and garlic." It is a very serious Oloroso, even if it’s not totally dry. It offers bitter almonds, hazelnuts, incense, Cuban cigar ash, and dark chocolate as well as a complex, a very intense, round and ample palate. This wine really fills your mouth. It is a finer version of La Guita, easy to drink, with a sweet note of apples in the nose, a polished and gentle palate, ending with a saline touch. Drink 2013-2014." And that flavor lingers after each sip, too, like sea spray." (4/2005) Jancis Robinson: "Greenish pale. Very lively and bone dry. Good stuff! A bit more polished than most, presenting a caressing feel through the ginger-infused finish. Drink now." (10/2013) K&L Notes: While Gutierrez Colosia boasts wonderfully fresh El Puerto finos, a product of the fresh climate and consistent humidity afforded the town by the Atlantic and Guadalete River, their most famous wines might be their Olorosos, which are so light on their feet and deliciously saline that many have been known to mistake them for Amontill... Gonzalez Byass "Viña AB" Amontillado

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Vina AB Amontillado is the youngest of the Amontillados in the Gonzalez-Byass lineup. Produced from Palomino grapes, it has four years of biological (under yeast) aging, and a further four without flor. It has a deep yellow color, a clean, discrete nose of Fino, chalky with its salty notes, but the palate is clearly an elegant, light Amontillado, with intense, piercing flavors, and it fills your mouth, ending very dry. It has a beautiful, perfumed nose of dry flowers, very elegant and clean, subtle, with some saline notes, both in the nose and the palate, where it is balanced, medium-bodied and elegant. During aging, the wine is refreshed with Fino Inocente and Amontillado Tío Diego, two other top bottlings in Valdespino’s portfolio. Los Abandonados Oloroso 6/8 El Puerto de Santa María 500ml

This is a very cool find from our friend Alex Russan (of Alexander Jules). In Jerez, Alex befriended a fellow Sherry conocedor, who mentioned a friend who had inherited an old solera of 8 Oloroso barrels in El Puerto de Santa María. Apparently, this solera was begun in the early 1800's, and has been untouched, not at all topped off, for the past 40 years. 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Capuchino VORS Palo Cortado displays a bright mahogany robe, has a nose of incense, noble woods, quince, a touch spirity and lots of hazelnuts, while the medium- to full-bodied palate is quite bitter, intense and powerful with the roundness of an Oloroso, persistent and full, with good acidity, ending with a note of coffee. (LG)" (8/2013) 93 points Wine & Spirits: "An essential Palo Cortado, from a solera established in 1790, this holds to the drier side of the style. Osborne "Sibarita" Oloroso VORS Jerez (500ml)

We are extremely excited to have the rare Osborne VORS wines back in stock. These are all from some of the most sought after and old soleras of Pedro Domecq, in this case a five criadera solera of 106 botas, originally begun in 1792. This is intense and with the tell tale note of walnuts in their husk, but also surprisingly drinkable and soft Oloroso given its VORS status. Delicious, complex, and satisfying older Sherry. Osborne Amontillado "51-1a" VORS Jerez (500ml)

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Amontillado 51-1A VORS, from a solera created in 1830 has a bright amber color. Intensely aromatic, with a nose full of balsamic notes (rosemary, thyme) intermixed with some smoke, spices, noble woods and hazelnuts. The intense, complex and complete palate shows great elegance and finesse, with a bitter orange and saline finish that makes it very tasty. Extremely long. Only 600 bottles are filled each year. This bottle would last, age and improve, probably for many years. Drink 2013-2020." (8/2013) 91 points Wine Spectator: "Offers a dry feel, with singed almond, orange peel ...Read More »

1951 Bodegas Toro Albala Amontillado Selección

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "My favorite of the two Amontillados is the 1951 Amontillado Selección a rare, single-vintage Amontillado produced with Pedro Ximénez grapes as is the norm in Montilla-Moriles. It's a bright mahogany color with an amber-green tint that reveals pharmaceutical notes and balsamic, with roasted, charred aromas and a sweetish palate that retains the sharpness expected in this kind of wine. It is lacking a bit in the mid-palate before ending with a slightly bitter, tarry finish. This is completely different to an Amontillado from Jerez. It was bottled in March ...Read More »
