2005 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Reserva Rioja Top Pick!
2005 Bodegas Casa Juan Señor de Lesmos Reserva Rioja

92 points James Suckling: "This has a beautiful depth of fruit with spice and dark fruits. Hints of parsley and cilantro. Full and super silky with a long and beautiful finish." (5/2013) K&L Notes: Composed of the same grapes in the same percentages as the Crianza, the Reserva is a barrel selection of wines that Angel feels can undergo longer aging in barrel and then in bottle. Aged a total of 27 months in barrels, then into concrete for more than a year, the Reserva also sees bottle aging until Angel deems it ready for release. This wine ramps up the intensity of the Crianza, with more pungen... Read More »

2007 La Rioja Alta "904" Gran Reserva Rioja Top Pick!
2007 La Rioja Alta "904" Gran Reserva Rioja

97 points James Suckling: "Wonderful purity of fruit with a strawberry, currant and plum character. Full and velvety body with ultra-fine tannins and a delicious fresh and fruity finish. Classic Rioja style. Que lindo! Drink now." (10/2016) 95 points Decanter: "Seductive and complex nose, typical Mediterranean expression of warm berry fruit, cherries, blackcurrants and plums. Explosion of fruit on palate with roses, chocolate and vanilla, silky tannins and racy acidity." (3/2017) 95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "If Viña Ardanza seems to be going fast, the Gran Reserva 904 is even faster and we're now on the 2007 Gran Reserva 904. This wa ...Read More »

2005 Bodegas Puelles Gran Reserva Rioja Top Pick!
2005 Bodegas Puelles Gran Reserva Rioja

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Gran Reserva can also do with some decanting in advance as it has some reductive aromas when first poured after opening. After that it has some notes of hung game, spices, beef blood, iron, tea leaves and peat showing mostly as tertiary aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, with a fine thread of acidity going through its spine that is laced with fine tannins. It is quite easy to drink and quite a good price for a Gran Reserva." 2005 Lopez de Heredia "Viña Bosconia" Reserva Rioja

94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "A worthy follow up to the 2004 is the 2005 Viña Bosconia Reserva, a wine that they consider the most rustic and powerful in the winery, but that I find as elegant and subtle as it gets. This feels very much in line with the 2004, maybe a notch above even, a lower yielding year. The nose is somehow closed and feels young with the elegant rusticity lurking from the bottom of the glass, clean and precise. The tannins are velvety and there is great acidity--a constant here. The wine is terribly elegant. I simply loved this wine. 99,000 bottles were filled in ...Read More »

2011 Navazos-Niepoort Palomino Vino Blanco

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2011 Navazos-Niepoort Vino Blanco is an unfortified Palomino Fino fermented in cask from a single vineyard. It offers a fascinating bouquet with subtle oxidative notes combining beautifully with light resinous aromas. The palate is well-balanced with a crisp, walnut tinged entry, crisp acidity and a lovely, slightly abrupt yeasty finish. This is very fine. (NM)" (8/2013) Wine Spectator: "The toasted almond and dried pear flavors have the character of a fino Sherry but the weight and freshness of a table wine. Chamomile and citrus notes add interest to this distinctive ...Read More »

2007 Marques de Murrieta "Castillo Ygay" Gran Reserva Especial Rioja

98 points James Suckling: "The aromas of this show an amazing freshness of flowers and herbs such as lavender, rosemary, and violet. Then it goes to raspberry, candy and currants. Black licorice too. A truly great wine on the nose. Full-bodied, racy and linear. So polished. It's like a red ruby. 86% Tempranillo and 14% Mazuelo in the blend. For release in September 2015. Great length and future. Give it three years or so. Or decant two hours in advance." 2005 Lopez de Heredia "Viña Tondonia" Reserva Rioja

A beautiful traditional wine to get to know. Drink now." (7/2017) 93 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Viña Tondonia Reserva is a blend of 70% Tempranillo, 20% Garnacho, 5% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo from their vineyards in the meander of the Ebro River, where they have some 100 hectares of vineyards. This feels elegant and fit, with classic Rioja flavors of dried red fruit, cocoa and malt. The finish is long and tasting lightly baked. (MS)" (7/2012) Vinous: "Bright red-ruby. Candied raspberry, plum, currant and roasted nuts, with American oak notes of bourbon and spices. 2000 La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" Reserva Rioja

90 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Reserva Vina Ardanza has 25% Garnacha blended with the Tempranillo. Light to medium ruby, it delivers an enticing bouquet of cedar, spice box, leather, forest floor, black cherry, and blackberry. This leads to a ripe, moderately dense wine with complex flavors and excellent balance. (JM)" (2/2008) 90 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Fading medium-red color. Wonderful texture. Drink or hold." (12/2016) 94 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Viña Tondonia Reserva is a completely different story. It is a worthy follower of the 2001, the greatest of the Viña Tondonia Reservas of recent times. 2011 Can Mayol Loxarel "MM" Gran Reserva Brut Nature Penedes

91 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The heavy bottle of the light Rosé 2011 MM de Loxarel came gushing out with violence when I uncorked it. It is a very pale blend of Xarello with 40% Pinot Noir that matured in bottle with the lees no less than 42 months. This time they told me it was white, but I'd say it's still a Rosé. But what really matters is that it's a very nice sparkling wine with more complexity provided by the extended contact with the lees. Decayed roses, freshly baked brioche and hints of mushrooms and forest floor are detectable in the nose. The palate is silky and it fills ...Read More »

Dried cherry, red plum, herbs and vanilla create a classic Rioja flavor profile. A supple, long finish puts this in perfect drinking shape, which doesn’t mean it can’t last another through 2025 or so." (5/2015) 93 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Dark red with a pale rim. Can Mayol, which bottles under the trademarked name "Loxarel," is a winery that has farmed organically for 15 years. The Mitjan family, owners of Can Mayol, also employ some biodynamic treatments. They keep animals, including chickens, a horse and a donkey named Garnatxa. While the focus is on "Brut Nature" (no dosage added) sparkling wine production, they also produce some very interesting still wines. 2005 Cune Imperial Gran Reserva Rioja

95 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Imperial Gran Reserva is firing on all cylinders. Smoked cured meats, balsamic notes of beeswax, antique shop and incense define the complex and elegant nose. The medium-bodied palate reveals an impressively powerful wine which manages to feel light on its feet. I needed to swallow a bit of wine to make sure; yes, it’s truly elegant and classic. This is a great wine, which transports you to the old Grand Reservas of yesteryear. The cellar at Frei Joao is similarly sized and nearly as old school, so if you're looking for a delicious, representative, old fashioned Portuguese white, or a more affordable version of the Viña Tondonia Blanco, this is your wine! The nose, after the reduction has blown off, is quite classical but clean showing roasted aromas and hints of dark spices, balsam and perhaps leather. The palate is quite lively, with good, refreshing acidity and fully resolved tannins. (LG)" (4/2015) K&L Notes: Jesús Puelles is one of the most talented vignerons in Rioja. Ontañon is an amazing bodega, located just outside of Logroño, but sourcing fruit from their own vineyards in Rioja Baja. These are high elevation, fairly isolated, wild vineyards, many of which are gently sloping and on poor, stony soils. The wines here show the richness and generosity of fruit for which Tempranillo and Garnacha based Rioja Baja wines are known, but with an added elegance, texture and purity which only older vines from top notch vineyard sites can provide.

Deep purple in color, it sports an already complex nose of cinnamon, clove, incense, lavender, black cherry, and blackberry. More concentrated than the 2004 Reserva Especial, it has enough structure to evolve for another 6-8 years and should see its 25th birthday in fine form. 2000 Bodegas Numanthia-Termes "Numanthia" Toro

93 points from Robert Parker! He says: The project of importer Jorge Ordonez, the 2000 Numanthia (100% Tinta de Toro from 70-100-year old vines) was produced from meager yields of one ton of fruit per acre. It spent 19 months in new French oak, with malolactic in barrel, and neither fining nor filtration. The Numanthia is a massive, dense ruby/purple-colored effort that needs 3-4 years to strut its stuff. 2001 Clos Mogador, Priorat
Bid on this bottle of 2001 Clos Mogador, Priorat (97RP, 96JD, 95WE, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Clos Mogador was described as 'simply sensational' when first tasted by the most illustrious taster from Monkton. I would not disagree one bit. At 11 years 'young,' it remains beautifully defined and fresh on the nose, with vibrant red berry fruit, slate and a hint of brine. The palate is medium-bodied with a wonderful entry: blackberry, black pepper, a touch of cumin and sea salt. It is blessed with outstanding definition and precision, with a gentle grip on the finish and dried blood on the aftertaste. This is a profound Priorat that has barely started to show what it can do! Clos Mogador needs no introduction. Rene Barbier was a pupil of Jean-Claude Berrouet and is one of the "founding fathers" in Priorat as part of the "Gratallops group." I met him for the first time at his home, located at the bottom of a never-ending winding dirt track and surrounded by vines. He

2004 La Rioja Alta 890 Gran Reserva Rioja (1.5L)

96 points Wine Enthusiast: "*Editors' Choice* Lightly rusty in color, this outstanding gran reserva is just now entering its golden years, which should endure for another two decades or so. Medium body, very silky tannins and a long and fruity finish. Beautiful ...Read More »

Cultivated by strictly biodynamic means in highly calcareous soil rich with ancient fossilized marine organisms, and then given a generous 100 months on the lees, this is a serious sparkling for a meal. To honor the occasion of carrying the inaugural release of this epic bottling, from one of our favorite producers of sparkling wine, we opted to carry a limited quantity exclu... Read More »
