91 points James Suckling: "A rich and beautiful red with lots of berry fruit plus hints of chocolate and vanilla, yet there's a freshness and edge to this wine that keeps it lively and delicious. One of the best Italian wines for the money." (11/2016)

2013 Pasetti Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Pasetti's vineyards lie in the heart of Italy's Abruzzo, between the Tirino and Pescara valleys at the foot of Gran Sasso and Maiella. The location's favorable climate, varied terrain and clay chalk and skeleton-rich rocky subsoils result in some of the best wines coming out of Italy today. Made by husband and wife team Franco and Mimma from vineyards at 550 meters above sea level, their Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is aromatic, balanced and elegant. The perfect weeknight red.

2011 Pasetti "Tenutarossa" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

Vinous praised the wines of Pasetti: "Owner Domenico Pasetti, helped by his wife Laura and children Massimo, Davide and Francesca, represents a modern success story in Abruzzo wine, as his judiciously oaked, easy-to-drink wines have been extremely popular, especially in Italy, over the past decade. The cellar is located in Francavilla by the sea, but the grapes come mainly from two different estates high up in the Apennine range in the region’s interior, at Pescosansonesco and Capestrano. Pasetti is just one of many Abruzzo producers who credits Luigi Ca... Read More »

2014 Giuliano Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

The lush, forward red fruit of this Montepulciano is incredibly inviting and spicy. On the palate the supple texture of the wine is balanced perfectly by a core of bright acidity that stretches out the finish.

2003 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo (94RP, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Pepe’s 2003 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is a bomb. Tar, leather, scorched earth and black fruit emerge from this dark, imposing Montepulciano. The wine comes together beautifully in the glass, as the aromas and flavors gain breadth and dimension. Despite the rich style, there is nothing excessive or over-ripe here, just exceptional balance of ripe fruit as captured by a traditional approach to vinification. A final blast of tar informs the long finish. Pepe fans will flip over the 2003, but readers who prefer subtlety over power will want to cellar this for a few years to allow for some of the baby fat to melt away. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2028. Emidio Pepe is one of Abruzzo’s reference-point producers. These traditionally made wines can show some rough edges when they are young, but they rarely disappoint when given an opportunity to mature in the cellar. (AG)" (06/2010)

2001 Emidio Pepe Montepulciano d'Abruzzo

95 points Wine Spectator: "Dark and tightly wound, with iron, wild herb and cocoa notes backed by full tannins wrapping the firm dark cherry and plum skin notes, ending with dark tar, graphite and bitter almond. Hide this in the cellar for a few years. (NW, Web-2013)" 92 points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This bottle (#31310) of Emidio Pepe’s 2001 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is incredibly dark in color. It is a rich, concentrated wine bursting with black cherries, smoke, tar and underbrush. This is normally a more restrained wine, but this particular bottle was especially rich and dense. Pepe’s Montepulcianos are legendary ...Read More »
