1994 Fonseca Vintage Port (375ml)
Bid on this 375 ml 2-bottle lot of 1994 Fonseca Vintage Port (375ml) (100WS, 97RP). Wine Spectator: " **1997 Wine of the Year and Cellar Selection** Hold on to your hat. This is the best Fonseca since 1977, and it's probably even better than that classic vintage--more like the breathtaking 1948. Mind-blowing, with masses of color, aroma and fruit flavor. Smells like fermenting berries, boasting loads of crushed grape, violet and berry character. Big, full-bodied and very sweet, with tons of tannins and a sweet finish. Tannic and huge, it's a long-term, great Port. Best after 2012." (04/1997)

Knockout nose combines musky raspberry, mocha, pepper and nutmeg, along with a darker, earthier component. Densely packed and sweet, but with very good definition and energy to the very ripe flavors of raspberry, mocha and earth.Finishes long and full, with a stronger impression of tannin/acid spine than the basic bottling. 1964 Abudarham Boal C.V.M. Madeira
Bid on this bottle of 1964 Abudarham Boal C.V.M. Madeira . Having successfully promoted California's Zinfandel wines, the Corti Brothers of Sacramento turned their attention to Madeira, importing a range of exceptional vintage wines to their Sacramento base. Among them were several from Abudarham, a smaller independent Madeira house that was later amalgamated into the Blandy and Symington portfolios. With little information available on the producer, we can only rely on the quality of selection by Darrell Corti and his impressive track record. Rick Kushman: "Alice Waters, who in 1971 opened Chez Panisse, the Berkeley restaurant that became ground zero for the changing California food scene in the 1970s and ’80s, says Darrell Corti opened her eyes to products from around the world. 'Before anyone,' she says, 'he was importing things from Europe that were unimaginable before then. Olive oil, prosciutto, even truffles. He was the original one.'" (Sactown Magazine, April 2012)

Jacques Selosse "Le Bout du Clos Ambonnay" Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut Champagne
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of Jacques Selosse "Le Bout du Clos Ambonnay" Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut Champagne (96RP, 94VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The NV Extra-Brut Grand Cru Le Bout du Clos is all about power, depth and pure structure. The weight and gravitas of Ambonnay comes through beautifully in this intense, layered Champagne. Hard candy, wild flowers, mint and spice are some of the many notes that take shape in the glass. The current release is a blend of vintages 2004 and 2005, two years that are very much complimentary in nature. I drank several bottles of the Bout du Clos during a recent trip in Italy, and was never let down. This is a gorgeous showing. Today the Bout du Clos has an implosive, huge minerality that keeps the wine from being fully expressive, but in another few years, the wine should start to be even better than it is today. Disgorgement date: April 13, 2012. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2020. (AG)" (10/2012)

Bid on this 3-magnum lot of 2000 Vilmart "Coeur de Cuvée" Brut Champagne (1.5L) (94RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2000 Coeur de Cuvee is literally made from the 'heart' of the juice, with the first and last part of the pressing discarded. This is a richly textured, intense wine loaded with ripe fruit and sweet toasted oak. Today it remains quite primary, but it will be stunner in a few years’ time, once the full range of its tertiary aromas and flavors have developed. Patience is the key. Coeur de Cuvee is 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir from 50-year old vines. This is the December, 2007 disgorgement. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2020. (AG)" (12/2008)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The light salmon-colored 1999 Comtes de Champagne Rose sports a demure nose of yeast and mineral-dusted strawberries. Tasters lulled by the shy aromatics will be floored by this wine’s intense burst of fruit on the palate. Powerful, sappy, and concentrated, it explodes in the mouth with red fruits, toast, yeast, minerals, and notes of currants. This is a deep, complex, and immensely long rose. (PR)" (12/2005)

1960 Barbeito Boal Madeira
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1960 Barbeito Boal Madeira . Barbeito has an impressive collection of old, vintage Madeiras, that is swiftly diminishing as these wines gain greater popularity and acclaim. Boal is a medium-sweet grape that also shows incredible acidity and minerality. As with any vintage Madeira, particularly those made by master blender Ricardo Freitas, the acidity here is a defining feature and gives the wine--despite its richness and sweetness--remarkable complexity and staying power. At over 55-years old (with much of this time spent in a wood barrel), this wine is a true treat. You can have vintage Madeira open for many months, even years, without much noticeable degradation in quality. Also, please note that these wines love air, and will greatly reward decanting prior to service.

1861 Shortridge, Lawton & Co. Boal Madeira
Bid on this bottle of 1861 Shortridge, Lawton & Co. Boal Madeira. An incredibly rare bottling from one of the historic Madeira houses, this wine was made the old-old-fashioned way, by being gently rocked in a ship as it sailed around the world. According to Richard Mayson's Madeira: The Islands and Their Wines: "Shortridge, Lawton & Co. was established in 1757 and John Shortridge was the first president of the Funchal Chamber of Commerce in 1835. Shortridge Lawton also claimed to be one of the last shippers to send casks of wine round the globe and back by sea (vinho da roda)." Now owned by Madeira Wine Co.
