The Good Beer Company "Solera 198" Farmhouse Ale Blend Aged in Bourbon Barrels, California (750ml) (Previously $17)

From the brewery: "Mixed culture farmhouse ale aged solera-style in bourbon barrels. This is the second pull from our bourbon barrel solera project, which began with third hand American oak barrels that had previously held bourbon and a big chewy imperial stout from one of our neighboring breweries in Orange County. Earlier this year, we pulled half of the beer out of the barrels for the first batch of Solera (131 days) and topped up the oak barrels, resulting in a blend of old and fresh beer. The average age of this batch of Solera is 198 days. Solera h... Read More »

Birrificio Del Ducato "Frambozschella" Saison w/ Raspberries, Italy (750ml) (Previously $25)

From the brewery: "The idea of this beer comes from a previous collaboration with Sebastian Sauer (Braustelle, Freigeist, The Monarchy) during a visit to our brewery in October 2013. Sebastian is a young brewer Cologne, eclectic and imaginative. Since both go crazy for sour beers, our partnership could only go in that direction. Both wanted to use raspberries: as a basis Sebastian had assumed a sort of Berliner Weiss fermented with lactic acid bacteria, but I wanted to ferment the juice directly into the wood (as I do for Chrysopolis). In the end we deci... Read More »

8 Wired "iStout" Russian Imperial Stout, New Zealand (500ml) (Previously $12)

"Beware, this is a BIG beer. Brimming with luscious roasted coffee and chocolate malt flavours which are balanced by a brisk bitterness and bold freshness from the hops. If you’re feeling politically incorrect try it with your favourite cigar, or a dram of your best single malt whisky. Or, if your tooth is sweeter, why not jump in at the deep end with the most decadent dessert of all; half a bottle in a glass with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream on top (beer geeks like us know it as the Imperial Stout Float). Or simply enjoy it on its own as a deca... Read More »

Reverend Nat's Hard Cider "New Moon Mandarin" Cider w/ Mandarin, Oregon (500ml) (Previously $7)

The brewer came about this recipe through trial and error, but the inspiration for it was pure magic: "On an overland to the Tien Shan mountains in Northwest China, I checked into in a hostel in a village along the Xingzi River. Having lost my diary a week before during a sudden retreat from a bar, I was unaware of the impending New Year’s celebration. Never one to miss a party, I proceeded to nocturnal wandering and firecracker watching, passing decorated doorways draped in red. I became hopelessly lost as the invisible New Moon rose in the small hours,... Read More »

Brasserie Fantôme "Pissenlit" Saison Ale brewed with Dandelion, Belgium (750ml) (Previously $16)

"Dany, the offbeat brewer at Fantôme, will try anything, and the results are always interesting. A beer made from dandelions would be worth a try if only because no one has ever brewed one before, but the great news is that this is actually a very good beer. Dany and some cohorts get busy every spring picking bushels of dandelions that grow in the fields around the picturesque farmhouse brewery. The yellow flowers are removed and dried in the sun, then soaked in water for a few days. The thick, dark dandelion "tea" that results is the basis for the Pisse... Read More »

2017 The Bruery "Saule" Anniversary Old Ale aged in Bourbon Barrels, California (750ml) (Previously $30)

"Saule is French for "willow", a traditional nine-year anniversary gift. Our ninth anniversary ale, Saule, follows in the footsteps of our anniversary releases before it, which are loosely based on an English-style old ale, fermented with our house yeast strain, aged in bourbon barrels and blended using the solera method. This means that a portion of each anniversary ale is saved in oak barrels and blended in with the next year's production, providing more complexity and depth of character as the years go by. The process causes the yeast to have different flavors than if fermented colder (more typical of Ales vs. Lagers). Per the brewery, the resulting beer is, “A combination of fruity, mineral-like flavors, borne from the lager yeast esters.” Interestingly, this is the only time AleSmith has ever brewed this beer.
