Big Al's Brewing "Time Capsule - October 2014" Mixed Culture Wild Ale, Washington 12.7oz (Previously $8.49)

From the brewery: "Time Capsule October 2014 was fermented with our house ale yeast and house souring microbe blend. Additionally, this beer was exposed to the open air to encourage inoculation by the micro flora indigenous to the brewery surroundings, adding complexity to the beer. Because of this brewing technique, October 2014 embodies a very specific time and place which will never be able to be exactly recreated. We love it now but it will continue to develop, making an excellent addition to your cellar."

Poor old misunderstood brown ale... It is perhaps the most versatile style of beer in the world, but is often overlooked. Why? Does the word brown lead the mind towards less appetizing things? Mull that over while you sip this beer, either in the sun, in front of the barbie, with your Sunday roast, or just by itself because you're thirsty and deserve a treat! Chances are tha... Sea Cider "Pippins" Cider (Organic), B.C Canada 750mL (Previously $25)

Pippins cider is made in the New England pre-Prohibiton style, which means sharply acidic, but balanced with very subtle sweetness, and high in alcohol (9.5%). Fermentation is undertaken at cool temperatures to preserve the fruitiness on the nose and to maintain the acidity. A dosage of organic cane sugar is added during fermentation to raise the level of alcohol (this was traditionally important to improve the shelf life of cider during the pioneering days). Taste notes: Lovely acidity, citrus, apple, pear, lemongrass, pineapple....crisp!!

Stone Brewing Co. "Winter Harvest" Belgian-Style Golden Ale aged in White Wine Barrels w/Stone Farms Merlot Grapes, California 500ml (Previously $20)

"We aged this Belgian-style ale in wine barrels for over two years, during which time native wild yeasts continued fermenting the beer. The result is an off-dry ale with pleasing levels of malt and tart fruit, especially tropical fruit flavors: guava from the Merlot grapes and pineapple from the Sauvignon Blanc barrels. Oak tannins contribute mellow non-hop bitterness while the Belgian yeast lends muted notes of clove and banana. Cellared properly, the dryness and complexity will increase over time."

Brasserie Fantome "Coffee Ruby" Saison, Belgium 750ml (Previously $18)

This unique beer receives praise from Belgian Beer & Food Magazine: "It feels like a non-English-speaker named one of Fantôme’s strangest-named saisons – and you’ll soon see, that’s saying something. Yes, it’s a coffee beer, but just as with Chocolat, we expect coffee beers to be maltier offerings, not lighter, more delicate brews. The Coffee Ruby is not quite ruby coloured but more burnt orange, the iconic Fantôme spiciness mingling well with some fresh coffee bitterness." (http://www.belgianbeerandfood.com)

HaandBryggeriet "Wild Thing" Ale with Cranberries and Currants, Norway 500ml (Previously $13)

The 'Hand' Brewery--basically four guys brewing in their spare time, on an absurdly small scale--is among the new crop of brewers beginning to appear in Norway. Craft beer is on fire in Scandinavia, but has been slow to catch on in Norway, where specialty brewers still number in single digits. Haand is by far the smallest of the new brewers, but this means that they can take chances in the brewhouse - a 200-year-old small wooden building with a curious past. Originally built as horse stables, the brewer’s grandfather then used it as his car workshop, aft... Read More »
