Of the 1997 Domaine Pascal-Chevigny Nuits-St-Georges "Hauts Pruliers Reserve Vieilles Vignes",Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The dark ruby, almost black-colored 1997 Nuits-St.-Georges Les Hauts Pruliers Reserve reveals powerful aromas of black chocolate-covered blueberries and cassis. This is an immensely ripe, massive wine, with a fabulous, silky texture, medium to full body, and a gorgeous flavor profile composed of blackberries, dark cherries, and licorice. While it is supple and sensual, it also possesses an outstanding structure, and should be capable of mid-term aging. (PR)" (10/1999)

Of the 1994 Domaine François Jobard Meursault 1er Cru "Blagny",Pierre Rovani writes writes: "Jobard never performs a debourbage, and ages his wines in 10-12% new oak for village wines and 15-20% for the premier crus...While most vignerons in the Cote d'Or now perform extensive batonnage, Jobard does none. He told me his experience with wines whose lees were stirred often have 'a faster evolution in the bottle' because of their loss of CO2. Interestingly enough, virtually every vigneron in Meursault I spoke with said Jobard's wines age better than any one else's in the village. Maybe he's on to something? Carbon dioxide is a by product of fermentation. It is trapped in the barrel and serves as a preservative, protecting the wine from oxygen. the

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Medium-to-dark ruby/purple-colored and exhibiting bright and rich dark fruit aromatics, this wine is a massive, firm, highly-structured, masculine, and full-bodied wine. Violets, brambleberries, myrtle, black cherries, stones, and minerals are found in this tannic monster. 2011 Alvear Pedro Ximenez de Añada Montilla-Moriles (375ml)
Bid on this 2-half-bottle lot of 2011 Alvear Pedro Ximenez de Añada Montilla-Moriles (375ml) (100RP, 94WE, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Alvear’s 2011 Pedro Ximenez de Anada is the most amazing Pedro Ximenez I have ever tasted. It may also be one of the first to be vintage-dated. The grapes were hand-harvested in September, then allowed to dry in the sunshine until they began fermentation, which is ultimately arrested by the addition of spirits. The wine spent six months in large American oak prior to being bottled. It is an amazing effort that looks like molasses. Notes of macerated figs, chocolate and caramelized tropical fruits emerge from this full-bodied, unctuously-textured wine. While sweet, it has enough acidity to balance out its richness. This astonishing 2011 Pedro Ximenez will last as long as any reader of this newsletter. (RP)" (11/2013)

Supple, silky and seamless, with mellow flavors of cherry, redcurrant and smoky oak given clarity by bright minerality. Sixty-eight percent of the fruit comes from Sonoma and 32% from Napa. It exhibits classic notes of creme de cassis, licorice, cedarwood, incense and a hint of toasty oak in the background. This full-bodied, opulent 1991 reveals a flawless integration of acidity, tannin, wood and alcohol. Dense and opulent, with superb concentration, full body, high glycerin, decent acidity, and ripe tannin, this a superb mouthful of wine that can be approached now or cellared for 12-15 years. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2014 Sine Qua Non "Piranha Waterdance" California Syrah ((97-100RP), (95-97VN)). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Syrah Piranha Waterdance is young and unevolved (more than the Grenache) and sports an inky blue color to go with lots of minerality, notes of cassis, violets and pepper, full-bodied richness and a surprisingly serious, structured, even masculine vibe on the palate. A blend of 81% Syrah, 8% Petite Sirah and the rest Mourvedre, Touriga Nacional and Graciano, fermented with 26% whole clusters and aging in 54% new French oak, it will be bottled just after the Grenache, in April of next year. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Camille Giroud Chambertin Grand Cru ((93-96BH), 95WS, (92-94RP), 92ST). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "There are actually several different cuvées of this wine and at the time of my tasting, Croix had not decided what he was going to use for the final blend. The best of them featured a reserved and very backward, indeed almost brooding nose of ripe and distinctly earth red pinot fruit plus a touch of animale that merges seamlessly into textured, powerful and pure big-bodied flavors that despite the size, richness and raw muscle are harmonious and perfectly balanced. A monument in the making but I reemphasize that this review may or may not reflect the final blend." (04/2007)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2010 Bruno Clair Bonnes Mares Grand Cru ((95-97RP), 93BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Bonnes-Mares is a towering, statuesque wine. Layers of fruit burst from the glass in this multi-dimensional, kaleidoscopic wine. It’s hard to fully capture the wine in words. Let me just say, all of the elements are in the right place. In 2010 the Bonnes-Mares captures a striking marriage of power and sensuality. This is a marvelously complete wine from Bruno Clair. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2045. (AG)" (12/2011)

2012 Caymus "40th Anniversary" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2012 Caymus "40th Anniversary" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (96RP, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "They appear to be immune to some of winedom’s less than intelligent trends and fads that we see from time to time, and the result is a spectacular 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon 40th Anniversary offering. Its dense purple/black color is followed by copious quantities of crème de cassis and blackberry fruit, silky tannins, a voluptuous texture and stunning purity as well as length. This full-bodied effort is a fabulous example of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon as well as a tribute to this amazing family. It is so good now, why wait? 2013 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend
Bid on this bottle of 2013 Harlan Estate Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100JS, 100RP, 99VN, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "As I predicted last year, the 2013 Harlan Estate is one of their all-time greats, although they have had many of them, starting with the 1991, followed by 1994, 1995, 1997 (although controversial in some circles), 2001, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2012. This great first-growth property, with aspirations to produce the finest Cabernet Sauvignon-based wine made in the New World, has given us a wine that has it all in 2013. Dense purple to the rim, with notes of espresso, white chocolate, mocha, blackberry, cassis, and cedar wood, the wine is full-bodied, opulent, but also structured, pure and incredibly long (well past a minute aftertaste). It is probably closest in personality and overall character to the compelling 2001, which is still a youthful wine at age 15. Drink it over the next 50+ years. (RP)" (10/2016)

This spectacular wine is nearly overwhelming in its richness, thickness and intensity. Once all its baby fat falls away, the terroir characteristics and additional nuances will emerge. Here, it has a really quite entrancing bouquet, that transparency intact but the fruit enhanced with time: strawberry and red currant, almost a "flinty" mineralité underneath. Ample singed cedar and mesquite, warm paving stone and black tea notes lurk in the background and glide through the finish. Features serious grip, but wonderful integration. There is fine depth to the delicious middle weight flavors that offer good if not exceptional vibrancy on the lingering finale. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Domaine Armand Rousseau Ruchottes-Chambertin-Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru (94WS, 92BH). Wine Spectator: "Elegant and beautifully poised between pure raspberry, cherry, wild berry, floral and mineral aromas and flavors and a vibrant structure. This graceful, linear red is very harmonious—deceptively so, in that you might want to drink it now. Needs a few years to gain complexity. (BS) " (04/2010)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2000 Bruno Giacosa "Le Rocche del Falletto" Barolo Riserva (1.5L) (100JS, 100WS, 96RP, 94VN). Wine Spectator: "Fabulous purity of crushed fruit - strawberries and raspberries, with hints of fresh roses. Full-bodied, with an amazing concentration and a palate that goes on and on and on. Ultraripe tannins. This is the Romanée-Conti of Barolo. Terrific balance and richness. From selected parcels in Giacosa?s Falletto vineyard. First made in 1997. Best after 2012. (JS)" (07/2004)

1999 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg Grand Cru (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 1999 Domaine Jean Grivot Richebourg Grand Cru (1.5L) (95RP, 94BH, 93ST, 91WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1999 Richebourg Grand Cru from Grivot is a long-term wine. Even after 16 years the nose is deep, broody and has a sign outside saying 'come back later.' I would say around five years. But I think there is great potential here (incidentally, not a view shared by others present at this tasting). With aeration, it reluctantly reveals sage and light Japanese nori (seaweed) aromas that I believe will become more prominent with time. The palate is well balanced, quite dense and perhaps 'stocky,' but hey, this is Richebourg not RSV! Give this burly Richebourg several years and you will have a serious wine. (NM)" (11/2015)

2012 Domaine Coche-Dury Meursault
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2012 Domaine Coche-Dury Meursault (91RP, 90BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2012 Meursault (my sample taken from their parcel in Chaumes) has a relatively austere bouquet at first, withholding its charm and then teasing with granitic, cold stone scents. The palate is very well balanced with a fine line of acidity and then it fans out in languid fashion with the delicately spicy finish. This is sophisticated and refined. (NM)" (06/2015)

2003 Joseph Phelps "Backus Vineyard" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 4-bottle lot of 2003 Joseph Phelps "Backus Vineyard" Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Backus Vineyard, from the red soils of the Oakville Corridor and eastern hillsides overlooking Screaming Eagle and Rudd Estate, is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Blackberry, blueberry, crushed rock and white flower aromas soar from the glass of this stunningly rich, full-bodied wine. One of the most concentrated and potentially long-lived wines of the vintage, it is unquestionably a candidate for wine of the vintage. It is richer and more backward than the Insignia, but stunningly multidimensional, built like a skyscraper, and staggeringly profound. Wow! What an amazing wine. Forget it for another 4-5 years and drink it over the following quarter century. For statisticians, the 2003 Insignia finished with 14.4% alcohol and the Backus, 14.3%. (RP) 98+" (06/2013)

1975 d'Yquem, Sauternes
Bid on this bottle of 1975 d'Yquem, Sauternes (98RP, 96DC, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1975 Château d'Yquem stands as one of the towering successes of that decade and at 40 years of age, it shows no signs of losing any of its prowess. This bottle represented one of the best that I have encountered. Iridescent in color, the bouquet soars from the glass, a pyrotechnic display of quince, Clementine, honey and a touch of aszu, lending it a slight Tokaji-like personality. It is beautifully defined and intense. The palate is pure and detailed with a killer line of acidity, vibrant honeyed fruit and a mellifluous finish that is now fully expressive. It vies with the imperious 1971 as the greatest Yquem of that era. This is simply magnificent. (NM)" (06/2015)

A fresh, sharp almost citrus nose with notes of cherry and sea-salt. Lovely balance on the palate with crisp acidity. Wild strawberry and cherry. Very focused, very lively. Quite spicy, perhaps with a touch of dryness on the finish. Lovely poise on this wine. Perhaps better than the 1999? (NM)" (02/2005)

2013 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2013 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (100RP, 97VN, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The prodigious 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, including fruit from some of the oldest Cabernet vines still in existence in Napa. This full-bodied classic displays notes of forest floor, earth, crème de cassis, blackberry liqueur, licorice and some pen ink. It is dense, full-bodied, prodigiously rich, massive in intensity, yet relatively light on its feet. This great ballerina of a wine has extraordinary ripeness but pulls back from the edge before going over the top. There are 1,000 cases of this classic, which should age effortlessly for 30+ years. 2014 Schrader "Beckstoffer Las Piedras, LPV" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2014 Schrader "Beckstoffer Las Piedras, LPV" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (99RP, 97JS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon LPV is from clone 337 from the Las Piedras Vineyard in St. Helena. This shows Mission Haut-Brion-like characteristics as it has in the past, with crushed rock, wet gravel, scorched earth, blackberry and blueberry fruit. It is clearly one of my favorites of this entire tasting. It has 14.5% natural alcohol and was aged in 90% new Darnajou and 10% new Taransaud barrels. This is a killer effort. (RP)" (10/2016)

Seductive. Medium to full body. It grows on the palate with an extremely long finish that goes on for minutes. The tannins are ultra-fine and polished. Purity and essence to this. Feminine yet wild and unpredictable. Available in March. Better in 2021." (01/2017)

With aromas of violets, minerals, spices, cool stones, mint, dark fruits, and plum skins, this is beautiful. Very much still a baby right now, it needs much more time. This is a wine for the next generation. Finesse and elegance, truly a wine that makes you contemplate life. This is not about power, there is really nothing like it. 93% Cabernet Sauvignon. 2005 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2005 Pontet-Canet, Pauillac (97RP, 96WS, 95ST, 94WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Possibly the youngest wine of all the 2005 Médocs in terms of its evolution, at age 10 the inky purple 2005 Pontet-Canet tastes more like a two-year-old wine. Loads of pure blueberry, blackberry and cassis fruit are present along with a hint of licorice and background oak. It is full-bodied, ripe, and excruciatingly fresh, vigorous and exuberant. This is a tour de force, and a sensational effort that rivals the first growths. Give it another 5-10 years of cellaring, and drink it over the following 30-40 years. 97+ points." (06/2015)

1991 Joseph Drouhin Musigny Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1991 Joseph Drouhin Musigny Grand Cru (95BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "I hadn't tried this beauty since 2001 and it would be fair to say that time has been extremely good to this wine with its gorgeously perfumed and still relatively primary nose that displays only a hint of secondary development on the various red and dark berry fruit aromas that are trimmed in a panoply of spice, exotic tea, lavender and sandalwood hints. The round, velvety and seductively rich medium-bodied flavors exhibit a subtle minerality on the impeccably well-balanced and highly persistent finish that is an exercise in harmony and grace. While to my taste this elegant rendition has arrived at its peak drinkability it should continue to hold here for several more decades. In a word, superb." (06/2016)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Penfolds "Bin 707" Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia (94RP, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Very deep garnet in color, the nose is intensely scented with aromas of dried cherries and blackcurrant cordial over a pleasantly meaty / earthy undercurrent plus whiffs of menthol and dried lavender. Concentrated in the medium to full bodied mouth, it has a good amount of enlivening acid cutting through the dense, evolved fruit with a high level of approachable / softening tannins and long finish. 1990 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1990 Grand-Puy-Lacoste, Pauillac (96RP, 95WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Along with the 1982, 2000, and 2005, the 1990 is one of those monumental Grand Puy Lacostes that you can’t have enough of. Still inky/blue/purple-colored to the rim, it boasts a gorgeously sweet, pure nose of creme de cassis, spring flowers, and a hint of wet rocks. The wine is full-bodied, plush, and expansive with impressive levels of glycerin and purity as well as an endearing texture. This 1990 is evolving at a glacial pace, but the sweetness of the tannins and low acidity ensure a delicious treat whenever a bottle is opened. It should evolve for another 20-25 years.
