Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2000 Andre Brunel "Les Cailloux" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (92ST, 91RP, 90WS). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full red. Roasted plum, smoke, licorice and game on the nose; less expressive than the 2001 following the October bottling. Sweet and supple in the mouth, with floral red fruit flavors and a silkiness of texture that reminded me of Burgundy. Sound acids give this 2000 a juicy quality and contribute to the impression of grip. (ST)" (02/2003)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2009 Grand-Puy-Ducasse, Pauillac (1.5L) (92RP, 91WS, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Aromas of blackberries, unsmoked cigar tobacco and cedar/sagebrush jump from the glass of this dense purple-hued Pauillac. Full-bodied with more depth and richness than usual as well as moderate tannins, this potential sleeper of the vintage offers 15-20 years of aging potential. Moreover, it is modestly priced. Purchasers should give it 4-5 years of cellaring and enjoy it over the following two decades. (RP)" (12/2011)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2004 La Fortuna Brunello di Montalcino (1.5L) (92RP, 92WE, 3GR). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "La Fortuna’s 2004 Brunello di Montalcino is especially beautiful in this vintage. The wine is remarkable for its density, richness and concentration, all of which have been achieved while maintaining clarity and freshness. The French oak is beautifully integrated in this sumptuous, generous Brunello. Suggestions of flowers and spices add notes of brightness on the finish. The Brunello spent a whopping 40 months in 25-hectoliter medium-sized casks prior to being bottled. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2019. (AG)" (06/2009)

1962 Lafon-Rochet, St-Estèphe (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum lot of 1962 Lafon-Rochet, St-Estèphe (1.5L). Château Lafon-Rochet was established during the 17th century and was awarded Fourth Growth status in 1855. Owned by the Tesseron family since 1959, it is now run by Basile Tesseron, whom Decanter calls "the Other Tesseron, cousin of Melanie and nephew of Alfred over at the thumpingly famous Château Pontet Canet in Pauillac. His father’s family came to Bordeaux via their cognac estate in Châteauneuf-sur-Charente, bought by his great-grandfather Abel in the 1800s, while his great-great-grandfather on his mother’s side was Raymond Lillet, one of two brothers who invented the aperitif Lillet in 1872." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "This wine needed a few minutes and some swirling before it began in blossom into a pretty floral and fruit perfume of lilacs, red cherries and crushed raspberries with a slightly wild, meaty / earthy undercurrent. Medium bodied, it really delivers in the mouth with elegant but intense flavors, crisp acid, medium-firm very fine-grained tannins and a long finish. (LPB)" (06/2011)

2005 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC)
Bid on this magnum lot of 2005 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC - 100RP) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Sparky (only available in magnums) is the highest in alcohol (14.8%) and, again, was aged in 100% new Darnajou barrels. This is just magnificent and at age ten, tasting like it was four to five years of age. Of course, tasting from magnum contributed somewhat to that, but it’s a great, great example of the Schrader’s favorite cuvée, hence the name. It is predominantly made from Clone 6, with small amounts of Clones 4 and 337. Like all these wines, it has an inky purple color, with notes of licorice, forest floor, graphite, cedar wood and creme de cassis and new saddle leather. Voluptuously textured, expansive, savory and full-bodied, with super-sweet tannins and a finish that goes on for close to a minute, this is a prodigious wine and one of the superstars of the vintage. Look for it to drink well for

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1997 Joseph Phelps "Insignia" Napa Valley Bordeaux Blend (100RP, 97WS, 95WE, 94ST, 93W&S). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "An inky/plum/purple color is accompanied by a stunning bouquet of violets, charcoal, creme de cassis and a hint of toast. Prodigious when it hits the palate with a full-bodied expansiveness, there is not a hard edge to be found in the 1997, only velvety tannins, compelling depth and fruit intensity, and stunning purity. It is a perfect expression of Napa viticulture and wine that should continue to age effortlessly for two decades or more. (RP)" (11/2013)

Bid on this magnum lot of 2011 Next of Kyn (Sine Qua Non) "Cumulus Vineyard No. 5" Central Coast Red Blend (1.5L) (97RP, 95VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "While I reviewed the 2011 Cumulus Vineyard #5 last year, I was thrilled to be able to retaste it this go around. Showing consistently, with tons of savory, meaty characteristics in its currants, cassis, ground herbs and wood smoke-like aromas and flavors, this is a full-bodied, gorgeously concentrated 2011 that shows the freshness and purity of the vintage, yet backs it up with plenty of texture and length. Lots of forest floor, underbrush, cola and red and black currant characteristics are present in this more evolved yet surprisingly powerful and dense 2011. 1965 Charles Krug "Vintage Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1965 Charles Krug "Vintage Selection" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Jancis Robinson: "What a find! This was so jam packed with fruit that, on being served it blind, I was not 100% sure it was Cabernet (I thought it could have been a particularly bumptious right bank wine), although it was beautifully evolved and mature. But it was brilliantly robust and lively and subsided into showing its age only after an hour or two. Amazing to think this was made before Robert Mondavi opened his eponymous winery, and therefore presumably when he was still at the old family business, Charles Krug. Yet another great California wine from the 1960s and 1970s. 18/20 points. (JR)" (03/2015)

Still incredibly youthful, it showed incredible focus and depth, all backed up by considerable structure. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine Jean Grivot Echezeaux Grand Cru (95BH, 95RP, 93ST, 93WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Echezeaux is pure silk. Black cherries, spices, licorice and tar are all woven together in a fabric of nearly indescribable elegance. All the elements fall into place as the Echezeaux captivates both the intellectual and hedonistic senses. This is a wine that impresses for its understated elegance. Readers won't find the drive of the Clos de Vougeot or the structure of the Richebourg. Instead, the Echezeaux possesses stunning textural finesse and phenomenal balance. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. Etienne Grivot's 2009s were some of the most exciting wines I tasted on my most recent trip to Burgundy. (AG)" (04/2012)

The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select is a perfect wine. It elicits more than a few 'wows' when you smell the incredible notes of charcoal, graphite and subtle toast, buttressed and dominated by blackcurrant, blackberry and blueberry fruit. The purity of these fruits, the multidimensional mouthfeel, the seamless integration of acid, alcohol, tannin and wood are all flawless. The 2012 signature adds an extravagant opulence and density that is just mind-boggling, and the wine is a total hedonistic and intellectual turn-on already, although it has 30+ years of life ahead of it. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru ((93-95BH), 95ST, 95WE). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good bright dark red. Initially reticent aromas of cherry, cola, flowers, pepper and sweet oak. Dense and fine-grained but youthfully imploded, with a strong stony minerality keeping the red cherry, bitter chocolate and floral flavors under wraps. Finishes very juicy and very long, with intriguing pepper and floral nuances. The recorked bottle 24 hours later showed brilliantly complex aromas and flavors of black raspberry, bitter chocolate, rose petal and minerals and superb sappy persistence. A great expression of soil and a highlight of the vintage. I promise you that I drained the bottle to the last drop. (ST)" (04/2007)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli emerges from the glass with masses of scorched earth, leather, tar, licorice, menthol and dark fruit. The Riserva shows a touch more inner sweetness, richness and depth in its fruit than the regular bottling, plus a bit more French oak as well. Bid on this magnum lot of 2010 Spottswoode "Family Estate" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (100RP, 97VN, 95ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Production in this cooler year than 2009 produced 2,586 cases and the blend was 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Consistently perfect from barrel and bottle multiple times, the 2010 is one of the recent blockbuster efforts from Spottswoode. Superb aromatics of spring flowers, blue and black fruits, forest floor and a touch of toast, are followed by a wine of exceptional intensity, texture, purity and a full-bodied finish with velvety, but noticeable tannins. 2004 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Vega Sicilia "Unico" Ribera del Duero (OWC - 98WE, 97RP, 96ST) in original wood. Wine Enthusiast: "Lightly baked and hinting at raisin and fine herbs, the bouquet on this benchmark Spanish red enfolds aromas of tobacco, moss and ripe tomato. In the mouth, it’s elegant and silky but also full and expansive. Flavors of baked berry fruits, baking spices, herbs and cocoa finish with a light coating of toast. This is an amazingly complete, exemplary wine that’s just entering its prime. If past vintages of Unico are an indication, it will age well through 2035. (MS)" (05/2015)

Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(a blend of 52% cabernet sauvignon, 42% merlot and 6% petit verdot) Ruby-red. Aromas of black raspberry, black cherry, leather, game and dark chocolate. Pliant and smooth, with a rather fine-grained texture for a young wine from this chateau. Doesn't possess the definition or lift of the best 2004 St. Juliens, but has a solid core of chocolatey-ripe dark fruits and finishes with ripe, horizontal tannins. (ST)" (05/2005)

Of the 1996 Perrier Jouët "Fleur de Champagne Belle Epoque" Brut Champagne,Wine Enthusiast writes: "The famous Belle Epoque bottle design is based on a 1902 bottle of Emile Gallé. Today's blend of this prestige cuvée is a fine balance between Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, crisp and fresh in a ripe, mature aperitif style. It is lively but complex, showing some toasty flavors to complement the rich, ripe green fruit tastes. Great balance and elegance. (RV)" (12/2004)

2004 Terredora di Paolo "Pago dei Fusi" Taurasi DOCG
Bid on this 12-bottle lot of 2004 Terredora di Paolo "Pago dei Fusi" Taurasi DOCG (95RP, 91WS, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2004 Taurasi Pago dei Fusi is a single-vineyard wine that has previously not been available in the US. Hopefully that will change, as this is a rock-star wine. The Pago dei Fusi shows a touch more depth and inner sweetness than the regular bottling, but without abandoning what is essentially a classic style. Dark cherries, plums, tobacco, licorice and incense are woven together in a fabric of superb richness. The finish is long, precise and exceptionally pure, with crystalline, mineral notes that add freshness. This site, which was once under water, is rich in marine deposits that confer a beautiful sense of vibrancy to the wine. The integration of the oak is superb. Readers will not want to miss this gem! Sexy aromas of red and dark berries, candied rose and Asian spices, with a smoky overtone. Suave, penetrating black raspberry and cherry flavors show excellent depth and power but no excess fat. Becomes spicier and more floral with air and finishes sweet, sappy and very long. This seamless wine is surprisingly approachable now but has the concentration to age. (JR)" (07/2012)

1999 Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1999 Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru (95VN, 93RP, 91BH). Vinous: "Medium ruby. Knockout grand cru aromas of macerated berries, licorice, jasmine, animal fur, tar and exotic baking spices; a great example of Bonnes-Mares, showing both the floral and animal aspects of the cru. Fills the mouth with sappy sucrosity, lifted by a strong floral element. A wine of great energy, finishing with firm but sweet tannins. Makes a strong argument that great grand cru Burgundy can be made at a yield of 42 hectoliters per hectare. (ST)" (03/2002)

Bid on this 5-bottle lot of 2006 Thomas Dundee Hills Pinot Noir (92ST). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light red. Complex aromas of strawberry, cherry skin, dried rose, smoked meat and musky underbrush. With air, the wine's fruit and floral qualities come to the fore and carry onto the palate. Silky and alluringly sweet, with good tangy mineral cut and an impressively long, sappy finish. Really benefits from aeration, so decant this if you plan to open a bottle anytime soon. Of the 2006 Sine Qua Non "The Raven No. 9" Grenache,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "This blend of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah, largely from the 11 Confessions Vineyard, with a small amount from Bien Nacido, spent 21 months in barrel. It is really strutting its stuff now, and showing even better than my original note predicted in August of 2009. The wine has loads of meat, licorice, smoke, charcoal and graphite, as well as huge peppery, blackberry and black cherry notes. Full-bodied, with great acidity, nicely integrated tannin, an admirable mouthfeel and tremendous length, this killer Grenache is still young ... (RP)" (08/2011)

1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1995 Mouton-Rothschild, Pauillac (95JS, 95RP, 95VN, 94WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Bottled in June, 1997, this profound Mouton is more accessible than the more muscular 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 19% Merlot, it reveals an opaque purple color, and reluctant aromas of cassis, truffles, coffee, licorice, and spice. In the mouth, the wine is 'great stuff,' with superb density, a full-bodied personality, rich mid-palate, and a layered, profound finish that lasts for 40+ seconds. There is outstanding purity and high tannin, but my instincts suggest this wine is lower in acidity and slightly fleshier than the brawnier, bigger 1996. Both are great efforts from Mouton-Rothschild. (RP)" (02/1998)

Deeply pitched, energetic dark fruit flavors take a brighter turn with air and pick up spicecake and anise nuances, along with a hint of smokiness. Of the 2004 Thomas Dundee Hills Pinot Noir (1.5L),Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Bright red. Seductive raspberry, redcurrant and wild strawberry aromas are complemented by an array of Asian spices, dried violet, yellow rose, cured meat, graphite and iron notes. I'd have called this a platonic Mazis-Chambertin, blind, but it's also floral enough to guess Clos de Beze, or meaty and mineral enough to say Cote-Rotie. Medium in body, with silky tannins supporting fresh raspberry and kirsch flavor, and suave mocha and smoky bacon notes adding depth. Impressively balanced, elegant wine, offering a deft mix of fresh berry, meat and musky earth tones, and finishing on a bright, persistent mineral

Nuanced, very sexy aromas of red cherry, minerals and faded rose, accented by a peppery quality that Pitiot says is slightly vegetal. Quite suave and fine in the mouth, with a silky texture, ripe balancing acidity, and a very light touch. The juicy, peppery quality carries through on the palate, giving the wine very good grip.
