2003 Mitolo "GAM" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Mitolo "GAM" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia ((96-100RP), 94JH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The spectacular, dense ruby/purple-colored 2003 Shiraz G. A. M. (named after the Mitolo family’s three children) exhibits aromas of lead pencil shavings, blackberries, blueberries, cassis, licorice, new oak, and scorched earth. This complex 2003 comes across as a hypothetical blend of a great La Mission-Haut-Brion from Bordeaux and a Rhone Valley Hermitage such as Chapoutier's Pavillon. Everything is seamlessly integrated into this tour de force in winemaking. (RP)" (10/2004)

1981 Mayacamas Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1981 Mayacamas Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (92VN). Vinous: "The personality of the cool vintage comes through in spades in the 1981 Cabernet Sauvignon. Although texturally quite polished and impeccable in its balance, the 1981 remains a bit compact and linear in style. In any other setting, it would probably be magnificent but here, next to so many icons, the 1981 remains only outstanding. (AG)" (06/2014)

Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2007 Roar "Garys' Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir (96RP, 94WE, 91WS, 90CG). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2007 Pinot Noir Garys’ Vineyard is one of the finest single vineyard Pinot Noirs I have tasted from California this year, it reveals gorgeous aromas of smoked herbs, charcoal, forest floor, and sweet black currants, raspberries, and plums. This incredibly fragrant, full-bodied, opulent wine struts its stuff in a magnificently complex style. It should drink nicely for 5-7 years, but who can wait that long? (RP)" (08/2009)

2003 Shirvington Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2003 Shirvington Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia (96BC, 96RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The big, concentrated yet velvety-textured, magnificent 2003 Shiraz reveals a seamless integration of tannin, acidity, wood, and alcohol, it boasts aromas of blackberry liqueur intermixed with violets. The fragrant aromatics are followed by an explosively rich, full-bodied, unctuously-textured, compelling Shiraz. Interestingly, this 2003 does not appear to be quite as powerful or concentrated as the 2002s or 2001s, but that’s like splitting hairs. The evolution of this 2003 will be fascinating to follow." 2004 Shirvington Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2004 Shirvington Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia (95RP, 90ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The sensational 2004 Shiraz’s inky/purple color is followed by aromas of graphite, blueberries, and creme de cassis. It offers wonderful purity, plenty of stuffing, toasty espresso notes from new oak barrels, admirable intensity, and a tremendous finish. Drink it over the next decade. Former winemakers Sarah and Sparky Marquis have left Shirvington and the wine is now being made by Kim Johnston. Little has changed, although the 2004s appear to be more streamlined and delicate than their 2003 and 2002 counterparts." (10/2005)

Of the 1997 Veritas "Hanisch" Barossa Shiraz,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The most enjoyable for drinking now are the two 1997s, a theme that was repeated time and time again in this Australian tasting. The 1997 Shiraz Hanisch Vineyard was one of the most complex and drinkable wines we tasted, and was far more evolved than its massive stablemate, the 1998, or the more rustic 1996. Sweet plum, fig, cassis, and blackberry characteristics are followed by a full-bodied, gorgeously proportioned wine displaying no evidence of tannin or wood. This beautiful 1997 should hold for another 7-8 years, but there is no reason to defer your gratification. (RP)" (06/2009)

Of the 2002 Clarendon Hills "Moritz" Syrah South Australia,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The meaty, earthy-styled 2002 Syrah Moritz Vineyard boasts fabulous concentration, wonderful density, a saturated purple color, and notes of creosote, acacia flowers, blackberries, and cassis. It comes across as an Australian version of a hypothetical blend of 50% Cornas and 50% Hermitage. Give it 2-3 years of bottle age, and enjoy it over the following 15+ years. " (10/2004)

Of the 2003 Blankiet "Paradise Hills" Napa Valley Merlot,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "From their beautiful hillside vineyards situated behind the vast estate of Dominus, Blankiet has produced a 2003 Merlot Paradise Hills Estate (14.9% natural alcohol) offering a gorgeously complex bouquet of Chinese black tea, black currants, earth, chocolate and a touch of mocha. Frankly, I’m not sure a Napa Merlot can be any more complex than this. With a deep plum/purple color and round, juicy, full-bodied opulence, this 2003 could easily compete with the greatest Pomerols or St.-Emilions. Made from 100% Merlot, it was aged 18 months in 100% new Taransaud barrels, which provide the chocolaty, espresso notes. This sensati

Of the 2008 DuMol Russian River Valley Chardonnay,Connoisseurs Guide writes: "*Three stars* As is usual from DuMOL, this very deep wine comes with a fair dose of oak and plenty of perfectly ripened, exceptionally well-focused varietal fruit. It is, however, not at all heavy in gait nor is it wholly defined by its ripeness, and it sports a fine spine of buoyant, enlivening acid. Still a touch tight, but already showing very long and wonderfully layered flavors, it balances richness and grace beautifully, and it is structured to keep and improve for a good many years to come. In short, this is an accomplished and very serious Chardonnay to cellar in complete confide

Of the 2010 Arnot-Roberts "Griffin's Lair" Sonoma Coast Syrah,Vinous writes: "The Copain set the stage for our last two Syrahs, both from the Sonoma Coast, a part of California I find immensely intriguing. Here, too, these wines had no problem being served after some of the richer wines. If anything, the freshness and brightness of the flavors left an impression of vitality and energy that carried through the rest of the day. Much the same can be said for the 2010 Syrah Griffin's Lair from Arnot-Roberts, a wine that had put on quite a bit of weight since I last tasted it. Here, the aromas and flavors were smoky, earthy and meaty. (AG)" (06/2013)

Its light straw/green color is followed by aromas of crushed rocks, citrus, poached pears, and baked apple-like spices offered in a rich, full-bodied, structured style. (RP)" (02/2010)

Of the 1994 Dalla Valle Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon,Wine Spectator writes: "The 1994 Cabernet Sauvignon, which I have drunk with great pleasure despite its backwardness, possesses a full-bodied, multi-layered personality, with plenty of tannin, but sufficient earthy, black currant/plum-like fruit to balance out the wine's structure. With an opaque purple color, a high tannin level, and gorgeous layers of fruit and intensity, it will be at its peak after 4-6 years of cellaring, and will last for 20-25 years. I don't think I need to reinforce the fact that these offerings are extremely difficult to find, but isn't that the way it always is with such extraordinary wines?" (12/1997)

Of the 1998 Fox Creek "Reserve" Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The 1998 Shiraz Reserve has the most potential of this trio. It combines some of the mature elements of the 1997 with the massive richness of the 1996, but without the 1996's slightly rustic framework. A dense purple color is followed by a sensational bouquet of creme de cassis, charcoal, and incense. Full-bodied, opulent, and voluptuously-textured, this is a big, but incredibly well-balanced wine. Its fruit bomb-like personality of a decade ago has morphed into something far more civilized, delineated, and refined. This gorgeous offering is a superb example of McLaren Vale Shiraz. Enjoy it over the next 10-15

Of the 2012 Carlisle "The Derivative" Sonoma County White Blend,Wine Enthusiast writes: "* Editors’ Choice * This unusual blend combines old-vine Sémillon from the Monte RossoVineyard with Muscadelle and Palomino. Voluptuous on the nose, the wine is restrained on the palate, with inviting layers of licorice, beeswax and stone fruit. Exotic and long lasting, it’s an intriguing wine." (05/2015)

Of the 2001 Dehlinger "East Face" Russian River Valley Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "The outstanding 2001 Syrah East Face is a 270-case cuvee where about 20% whole clusters are utilized in the winemaking. Floral notes intermixed with blackberry liqueur, licorice, and smoke jump from the glass of this dense ruby/purple-colored wine. It cuts a broad, deep, textured palate impression and is very seductive and heady stuff. I was turned on by it, but it probably needs another one or two years of bottle-age. 1974 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 1974 Heitz Cellar "Martha's Vineyard" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (98RP). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "I had this wine twice over a period of thirty days, rating it an astounding 99 and 98 points. A monumental California Cabernet Sauvignon, it appears to have approached its plateau of maturity but should easily last for 20-25 more years. There is no rust, amber, or brown to the saturated dark purple color. The spectacular, huge, Mouton-Rothschild-like nose of mint, cassis, lead pencil, and toast is remarkably youthful. Staggeringly concentrated, this full-bodied, super-rich wine possesses moderate tannin, fresh, lively acidity, and a blockbuster, rich, fleshy finish. This is a monumental effort! (RP)" (08/1994)

Wine Spectator: "Shows wonderful aromas of flowers and berries, with hints of vanilla and Indian spices. Full-bodied and powerful, with layers of chewy tannins and a long, flawless finish. Compact and dense, yet racy and refined. Not the perfect 2001, but very close. Best after 2013. 2,680 cases made." 2013 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC)
Bid on this magnum of 2013 Schrader "Old Sparky" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (1.5L) (OWC - 100RP) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Old Sparky, which is essentially made from clone 4 from two separate blocks, clone 6 and clone 337, is another perfect wine from the Schraders. I suppose it’s a little boring to say, and perhaps I can be accused of creating unrealistic expectations on the part of readers, but this is as great as Cabernet can be. Tasting like a first-growth Pauillac, the wine is opaque purple and has a fabulous nose of lead pencil, spring flowers, blueberry and blackberry and the telltale cassis. There is also some licorice and sweet oak, the tannins are ripe, and the wine full-bodied. Built like a skyscraper, with an incredible finish (like most of these wines) going on for 50 seconds to a minute, this amazing wine should still be drinking splendidly well at age 25 or 30. While this is not classic in style, there is so much explosive energy and verve that this may very well surprise to the upside with time in bottle." (04/2005)

Etienne de Montille says this is slower to reveal itself than the Folatieres, but I find this very rich wine virtually drinkable right now. This brilliantly made, super-concentrated, pure, blockbuster possesses sweet tannin as well as a terrific finish. Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2011 Lucien Le Moine Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru ((93-95BH), (92-95ST), (89-91RP)). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "(one-third vendange entier): Good medium red. Red berry liqueur, cherries macerated in alcohol and a whiff of pepper on the nose. Denser and thicker than the Echezeaux but a bit youthfully disjointed, with the peppery character following through in the middle palate. Finishes dry and quite tight, with powerful peppery tannins and hints of clove oil and noble herbs. Plenty of extract here but this will require time in bottle to harmonize. Saouma told me he never likes this cuvee in the early going. (ST)" (01/2013)

2014 Sine Qua Non "Gallinita" Central Coast Rosé
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2014 Sine Qua Non "Gallinita" Central Coast Rosé. From the producer: "We are not working on a grape growing or winemaking THESIS. Instead we want all of our efforts to be reflected in every glass of SQN. And so our goal has been and always will be to understand Mother Nature’s often oblique ways and (re)act accordingly so that we may create wines that express all that Nature has so generously given us. And all that this beautifully warm and sunny place called California has to offer. Wines that speak to the heart and the mind both. Wines that are ripe and flavorful, but also graceful and balanced. Wines that are perfectly enjoyable and delicious young, but that will age and show a new and interesting personality with each passing year. Wines that surprise with each sip and where the last drop – not the first sip – was the best one. Wines that make you smile and happy and appreciate all that is lovely."

2005 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2005 Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils Clos Vougeot Grand Cru ((93-96BH), (91-94ST), (89-91RP)). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "*Don't miss!* Note that I was shown two versions of this wine, one from Domaine fruit and another that was purchased. Prost indicated that there might be two wines released or they might be blended. The wine reviewed here is from Domaine fruit and was significantly better than the purchased example. A ripe, reserved and cool nose of flat out gorgeous complexity leads to beautifully delineated, powerful and robust flavors that somehow manage to remain understated on the hugely long and spicy finish. This has the 'wow' factor in spades and is a strong candidate for the Clos de Vougeot of the vintage (along with the Leroy and Dr. George Mugneret versions). Drink: 2020+" (04/2007)

Wine Spectator: "Plenty of substance and depth, boasting a green, leafy, youthful nose, with cherry and sandalwood notes. Packed with sweet fruit, this is very juicy and long, with an aftertaste of spice and licorice.—Non-blind 2009 DRC tasting (February 2012). Best from 2016 through 2038. (Web-2012)"

2003 Abreu "Thorevilos" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC)
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 2003 Abreu "Thorevilos" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (OWC - 97RP) in original wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Like the Madrona Ranch, the 2003 Thorevilos comes from the St. Helena AVA. Co-owned with Ric Forman, this is one of the true first-growth sites in all of California. The dense plum/ruby/purple color is followed by aromas of white acacia flowers, blueberry liqueur, creme de cassis and incense. The wine cuts a slightly deeper, richer, fuller-bodied mouthfeel than even the Madrona, but displays no harshness. Just entering its plateau of full maturity, the wine offers beautiful purity, symmetry and density as well as a subtle hint of new oak. A certain youthfulness suggests it might outlive its sibling, but it is still too early to know. This wine can be drunk now or cellared for another 10-15 years. (RP)" (06/2013)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2007 Il Poggione "Vigna Paganelli" Brunello di Montalcino Riserva (OWC - 96VN, 95JS, 95WE, 92WS, 91ST) in original wood. Vinous: "Il Poggione's 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli is utterly stunning, but it is surprisingly tannic and huge for a vintage in which so many wines are much more approachable. Layers of dark red stone fruit open up on the palate, followed by sweet spices, savory herbs and mint. Beautifully perfumed and expressive throughout, the 2007 is a jewel of a wine. The only thing it needs is time. (AG)" (05/2014)

Wine Enthusiast: " *Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2013* Here’s an unforgettable wine that absolutely makes the case for 2007 being one of the best vintages of late in Montalcino. The wine is broad and polished with masculine tones of dark fruit, leather and tobacco. These aromas evolve so quickly and with such pulsing intensity, the wine comes alive suddenly. There are dusty mineral shadings at the back with tightly textured tannins. Hold 10 more years." (02/2013)

Full body with phenomenal detail featuring delicate but intense blackberry, espresso, toasted oak, caramel and dark chocolate. Cedar and sweet tobacco. Finesse all over. The wine of the vintage? Everything is there. Great energy. Best in 2018." (05/2014)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2010 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape (OWC - 96WE, 96WS, 95RP, 94ST) in original wood. Wine Spectator: " *Ranked #8 of Top 100 Wines of 2013* Dark, dense and very closed now, this has a tremendous core of crushed plum, linzer torte and blackberry confiture waiting in reserve. Ample singed cedar and mesquite, warm paving stone and black tea notes lurk in the background and glide through the finish. Features serious grip, but wonderful integration. Should cruise in the cellar. Best from 2016 through 2035." (08/2013)

1985 Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chênes"
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 1985 Michel Lafarge Volnay 1er Cru "Clos des Chênes" (96RP, 91BH). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1985 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chenes, served from magnum, is everything you could want in a mature Volnay, indeed, any mature Burgundy. There is something regal and beguiling on the nose that is ethereal and mesmerizing: delicate touches of redcurrant, wild mushroom, autumn woodland and balsamic. The palate displays exquisite balance, lace-like tannins and yet that does not denude this Volnay is intensity. It builds gently in the mouth towards a brilliantly delineated finish that is reminiscent of a fine Chambertin. This is simply outstanding. Tasted November 2013. (NM)" (02/2014)

2007 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2007 Scarecrow Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (100JS, 100RP, 97WS, 96ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Scarecrow's inky/purple-colored 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon is a prodigious effort. It reveals a liqueur of crushed rocks intermixed with a smorgasbord of spring flower, blueberry, creme de cassis, and assorted blue, black, and red fruit characteristics. It also possesses extraordinary concentration, but what sets it apart is the fragrant aromatics combined with uncommon purity and elegance for such a full-bodied, massively concentrated wine. Its perfect balance suggests it can be drunk at a relatively young age, but it should easily evolve over 30-35 years. Congratulations to all involved! (RP)" (12/2009)

1989 Bruno Giacosa "Santo Stefano" Barbaresco Riserva

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 1989 Barbaresco Riserva Santo Stefano explodes from the glass with an array of soy, spices, menthol, minerals and pine in a profound, kaleidoscopic expression of this great, great vineyard. Endowed with never-ending layers of perfumed fruit, the wine reveals mind-bending complexity and a profound personality that words will never do justice to. This remains one of Giacosa’s all-time monumental wines, and it simply must be experienced by anyone who seeks to understand the genius of Bruno Giacosa. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2030. Vinous, with a patina of nutty maturity offset by a citrus- and honeysuckle-tinged freshness, all embraced by a taut, silky structure. 2009 Lamarche Vosne Romanee Les Malconsorts
Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2009 Lamarche Vosne Romanee Les Malconsorts (93BH). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "A noticeable if not really intrusive application of wood sets off the very ripe black fruit nose that is lavishly spiced and complements well the dense, serious and robustly powerful flavors that possess a very firm (but not aggressive) tannic spine that is pushed to the background by the extract-rich and impressively persistent finish. The velvety mouth feel is quite seductive yet the overall impression is one of a muscular wine very much in the vein of a classic Malconsorts." (01/2012)

Bid on this 6-bottle lot of Jacques Selosse "V.O." Grand Cru Extra Brut Blanc-de-Blancs Champagne (96RP, 93VN). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "If Initial can be described as feminine, the NV Extra-Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru V.O. (Version Originale) is decidedly masculine. Here the fruit shows off remarkable depth and muscle, with deep, burnished tones that add complexity and weight to a dense, structured, yet plush expression of Chardonnay. The wine literally covers every inch of the palate with layers of mineral-drenched fruit. This is a fabulous showing for the Version Originale. Disgorged October 20, 2010. Pungent, highly expressive aromas of raspberry, blood orange, flowers and spices; exotic in the context of this classic vintage. Juicy, sweet and gripping on the palate, with a weightless, delicate quality to the sharply delineated flavors of raspberry, orange peel and minerals. 1993 Domaine A.F. Gros Richebourg Grand Cru
Bid on this 3-bottle lot of 1993 Domaine A.F. Gros Richebourg Grand Cru (94BH, 91WS, 90RP). Allen Meadows - Burghound: "The intense mix of now mostly secondary Pinot fruit explodes from the glass offering nuanced aromas of spice, smoke, earth and toasty oak that complement the focused medium weight flavors that have finally emerged from their tannic shell, all wrapped in a dense, chewy and extremely long finish. This is an extremely pretty and very powerful wine that goes on and on and this should live for years. I have had the pleasure of trying this many times over the years and it never fails to impress and about the only nit is that there is a touch of wood that has not fully integrated and while not enough to really detract from all of the other sensory fireworks, it's enough to notice." Vibrant but youthfully uncompromising, with terrific inner-mouth perfume to the flavors of raspberry, flowers and herbs. Really spreads out to saturate the palate. Bid on this 6-bottle lot of 2008 Domaine du Clos de Tart Clos de Tart Grand Cru (Mommessin) (OWC - 96BH, 94RP, 93ST, 90WS) in original wood. Allen Meadows - Burghound: "Mild but not invisible wood frames very ripe yet cool and airy dark fruit aromas that speak of earth, violets, underbrush and a hint of menthol that leads to reserved, intense and tautly muscular broad-shouldered flavors that are textured, naturally sweet, sappy and concentrated while being supported by a notably firm but not aggressive tannic spine and excellent length on the balanced and palate staining finish. This should require between 15 to 20 years to arrive at its apogee as it's noticeably more structured but unlike some less successful '08s, the phenolics here are quite ripe as the low yields and late picking date are clearly in evidence. This resembles the great 2001 more than a little yet there is even more overall depth of material. In short, this should be truly great in time." (01/2011)
