Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2008 Calera "Ryan Vineyard" Mt. Harlan Pinot Noir (91RP, 90ST, 90WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2008 Pinot Noir Ryan Vineyard comes across as soft, delicate and perfumed. Sweet red berries, crushed flowers, licorice and tobacco are some of the notes that flow from this understated Pinot. The Ryan Vineyard is already a touch forward, suggesting it is best enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2018. (AG)" (08/2011)

On the other hand, there’s a slight bit of raisin, marzipan and bitter chocolate that come from the vintage. In between you’ll find Termes’ patented dark berry flavors, earthiness and tannins. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2009 Domaine de la Janasse "Tradition" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (94RP, 93WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape is probably one of the strongest “regular” efforts I have ever tasted from Sabon. This dense purple blend of 75 to 80% Grenache and the rest Mourvedre and Syrah, aged in truncated wood cuves and foudres, has a beautiful, sweet nose of black cherry jam intermixed with roasted herbs, black currants, forest floor and a hint of charcoal. Of the 2003 Ojai "Verna's Vineyard" Santa Barbara County Syrah,Robert Parker's Wine Advocate writes: "A new offering, the 2003 Syrah Verna’s Vineyard (a site owned by Chad Melville) is a silky-textured effort revealing tremendous opulence along with abundant quantities of blackberry, cassis, and acacia flower characteristics. The pH is low, but the wine is plush and succulent, belying the statistical analysis. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2010 Domaine Grand Veneur "Les Origines" Châteauneuf-du-Pape (95RP, 93ST, 92WS). A blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 20% Mourvedre (45- to-95-year-old vines) aged in small oak, it exhibits an opaque purple color as well as a sweet bouquet of blackberries, espresso roast, ink and graphite. Finishes with broad, palate-dusting tannins and lovely aromatic persistence. Very sexy already. I asked Grivot why he uses a good 20% more new oak than he did ten years ago. 2004 Elio Altare Barolo
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2004 Elio Altare Barolo (93AG, 92WE, 92WS, 90ST). Antonio Galloni: "Altare’s 2004 Barolo is a sweet, dense wine loaded with considerable fruit that hides the tannic structure that lurks underneath. Licorice, menthol, baking spices and dark red fruit all make an appearance in this superbly well-proportioned Barolo. Sweet, ripe tannins, and a lingering note of mint give this wine a beautiful sense of lift on the finish. Altare’s Barolo was once quite representative of La Morra, but the recent addition of vineyards in Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga in the blend make this a very different – dare I say it – almost traditional expression of Barolo. It is a lovely wine and is not to be missed. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2024. " (12/2007)

Most of this cuvee comes from the Crocker Vineyard, which dates back to 1870. Notes of charcoal, earth, black currant liqueur, licorice, flowers, and spicy wood emerge from this inky/ruby/purple-colored blend. It is most similar in style to the 2001 for its power, but also has some of the aromatic finesse and complexity of the 2004. Layers of fruit build to the explosive, huge finish. Today the 2006 is big, implosive and tightly wound, but it will be absolutely gorgeous in another few years. Actually, it already is. Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 Fontanafredda Barolo Lazzarito (94W&S, 92AG, 92RP, 90WS). Wine & Spirits: "Lazzarito comes from La Delizia Vineyard located just outside the village of Serralunga. The nebbiolo vines here grow in sedimentary marine soils mixed with calcareous marl, and the resulting wines are textbook examples of the powerful structure associated with Barolo from Serralunga. This 2001 harnesses that power in a seamless way, the tannin providing a firm foundation for the interplay of punchy cherry flavors and fragrant porcini earthiness. After a day of air, the wine grows more expressive and becomes a precise, clean arc of flavor that lasts. Completely satisfying, this will only get better with time. 2002 Williams-Selyem "Flax" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Williams-Selyem "Flax" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (92CG, 92ST, 90RP, 90WE). Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Bright medium ruby. Complex aromas of blackberry, cassis, coffee, caramel and game. Begins very intense but rather lean, then builds and blossoms in the mouth, coating the palate with flavors of blackberry, cherry and rose. Ultimately lush but firmly tannic on the finish, in need of at least a couple years of additional cellaring. Like the Ferrington, this was aged in a relatively high 70% new oak." (06/2004)

2005 Dominique Laurent Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2005 Dominique Laurent Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes. Praise from Jancis Robinson: "Dominique Laurent [is] an ex pâtissier with the gift of the gab who is much lauded in France. Rather ambiguously labeling all his wines 'Dom. Laurent,' he buys wine and fashions it into something exceptional in his Nuits-St-Georges cellars. He has researched and revived many a technique from the last century and tailors his methods (which tend to minimum intervention and maximum new oak) to suit each combination of vintage and vineyard." May be the one to drink while you’re waiting for your other David Arthurs to age. Shows strong, ripe blackberry, currant, cherry, cola and cedar flavors, wrapped into exceptionally smooth tannins. Still, it should develop for a good eight years in a cool cellar. " (07/2010)

2005 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Cask 23" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 2005 Stag's Leap Wine Cellars "Cask 23" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (90CG). Connoisseurs Guide: "Almost sure to raise controversy with its involving aromas of leather, roasted coffee, scorched chocolate and herbs, this unique offering smacks ever so faintly of Syrah and may not fit the fruity Cabernet model, but its complexity is beyond any argument. It is smooth and supple in feel with plenty of palatal weight and a fine sense of polish, and its neatly fit spine of firm structural tannins is precisely the stuff of fine Cabernet. A few years of age should make a good thing better, and it has room enough for ten years of growth." (04/2009)

Crushed black fruits, raspberry, game, pepper and black licorice on the nose. Dense and thick but also juicy, aromatic and penetrating, with a powerful kernel of jammy berry flavor. Finishes with firm, ripe fruit tannins and terrific thrust and length. A classic berry cocktail of a Zinfandel." (05/2004)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2007 Dutton-Goldfield "Freestone Hill" Russian River Valley Pinot Noir (93CG, 92BH, 92ST, 91WE). Connoisseurs Guide: "It may be easy enough to argue that this generously fruited young wine is a bit simple and not fully expressed, but, if never one for bombast or drama, it is absolutely striking in focus and depth. Its careful structure, its keen fix on well-ripened cherries and its tantalizing glimpses of coming complexity make a wholly compelling case for a few years of very confident aging." (10/2009)

2010 Linne Calodo "Cherry Red" Paso Robles Red Blend (1.5L)
Bid on this magnum of 2010 Linne Calodo "Cherry Red" Paso Robles Red Blend (1.5L) (94RP, 93ST, 92WS). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2010 Cherry Red comes across as sleek and polished. Juicy cherries, flowers, menthol, flowers and spices are some of the many nuances that caress the palate as this sleek, silky Zinfandel-based red opens up in the glass. Here the Zinfandel influence is felt in the aromas and flavors, but there is little in the way of overt sweetness. High-toned floral notes add lift on the bright, inviting finish. This is another wine I find absolutely compelling and, most importantly, flat-out delicious. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018. " (08/2012)

2009 Le Carré, St-Emilion
Bid on this bottle of 2009 Le Carré, St-Emilion (97RP, 93JS, 93ST, 93WS, 92WE). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Achieving nearly 15% natural alcohol (one of the highest of the Jonathan Maltus St. Emilion estates) , this blend of approximately 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc is from vineyards that sit on limestone soils near Clos Fourtet, an area that performed brilliantly in 2009. Inky purple, with notes of graphite, vanillin, blackberry and cassis as well as crushed rock and floral notes, the wine has breathtaking extravagance and a luxuriant fruit quality that simply has to be tasted to be believed. Phenomenally rich, full-bodied, and brilliantly poised and well-balanced, this is a tour de force in winemaking and a colossal Le Carre, the finest Jonathan Maltus has yet produced. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2028." (02/2012)

Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2011 Drinkward Peschon "Entre Deux Mères" Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (91AG). Antonio Galloni: "The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Entre Deux Meres is beautiful. Sweet, layered and expressive, the 2011 impresses for its length and balance. Raspberry jam, flowers, sweet spices and crushed rocks are all laced together gracefully. This is a fabulous example of the year at its best. The 2011 will drink well early, but it should also age nicely for a number of years Dollops of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot round out the blend." (11/2013)
