Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2002 Jean-Marc Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "Vergers" (91BH, 91ST). 2001 La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" Reserva Especial Rioja
Bid on this 2-bottle lot of 2001 La Rioja Alta "Viña Ardanza" Reserva Especial Rioja (93RP, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2001 Vina Ardanza Reserva Especial is a blend of 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha from their vineyards in Fuenmayor and Rioja Baja respectively and it represents only the third vintage to be declared after 1964 and 1973. Aged in American cask for 36 months, it has a bucolic, natural bouquet of bright red cherries, balsamic, mint and a touch of dried honey all with superb delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with wonderful delineation and supple, lithe tannins. The acidity is very well judged and it leads to a pert, tense finish of bitter cherry, loganberry and licorice. This is an outstanding wine drinking perfectly now, but it should age effortlessly. Drink now-2030." (08/2012)

1990 de Fargues, Sauternes
Bid on this bottle of 1990 de Fargues, Sauternes (96RP, 94WS, 92ST). Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "After a scorching summer, the 1990 de Fargues harvest began early (on September 18) and the fruit was picked over 4 tries until October 10 – the earliest harvest on record. It is the most powerful of the trilogy. Delivering 130 grams-per-liter residual sugar at 13.6% alcohol, it has a prodigious bouquet of over-ripe oranges, toffee apple, chlorophyll and even a faint hint of chocolate. The palate is medium-bodied with a luscious ripe mandarin and apricot-tinged entry, building wonderfully to a botrytis-laden finish that fans out like a firework, leaving traces of cumin and dried orange peel on the long finish. The ’90 de Fargues is simply superb in every way, a multi-faceted wonder. (NM)" (06/2013)

One hundred percent Syrah aged 20 months in 45% new oak, these rather rare soils have offered up a note with black fruits, crushed rocks, new saddle leather, licorice and white chocolate. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "White English wine gum flavors along with potted ginger and homey notes characterize the nose of the very intense and "sweet" flavored 2012 Hermannshöhle Riesling Eiswein. The aromas lead to a very sweet, intense and concentrated palate of great intensity that has ripe and ultra ripe yellow-fleshed stone fruit flavors that dominate a palate that could be more finesse-full and delicate for my taste. Of the 2009 Peter Michael "Ma Belle-Fille" Knights Valley Chardonnay,Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar writes: "Hazy yellow. Heady, exotically perfumed bouquet of dried pear, peach pit, candied lemon, iodine and smoky lees, plus a suave floral quality and a touch of anise. Enters rich and weighty but quickly gains tension, offering zesty citrus and orchard fruit flavors and an intense, almost saline mineral underpinning. It is also one of the most generous wines in the range. Dark plum, violet, black cherry, mint, licorice and clove notes all burst from the glass. Even with all of its richness, the 2011 has plenty of supporting structure. Although the Clos Sorbe is striking today, it also clearly has the potential to age. A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, it is still unevolved with a primary character, but it does reveal attractive blueberry and cassis fruit interwoven with notions of incense, camphor, and licorice. 1988 Camus Père et Fils Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1988 Camus Père et Fils Latricieres-Chambertin Grand Cru. Camus is an underrated domaine with good grand cru holdings in Gevrey-Chambertin. It's existed, more or less, since 1732, but mostly after the phylloxera epidemic, when Joseph Camus purchased abandoned vineyards. The wines are not filtered, so you'll often find sediment, but this ensures that every iota of flavor from the grape makes it into the final wine. "The prices at this domaine are down-right reasonable," according to the Burgundy Report. "Tasted at the domaine as a ‘family,’ each wine is interesting and follows the hierarchy – there’s a clear difference between cuvées – both good things. Subtly complex I would happily drink any of them. Throw in a few reference wines and the picture begins to change: these are old-school wines, for sure, and even the younger wines have little to do with bright or overt fruit. They seem quite clean and offer nice aromatics and a good finish."

1988 Pierre Bourée Mazys-Chambertin Grand Cru
Bid on this bottle of 1988 Pierre Bourée Mazys-Chambertin Grand Cru. Burgundy Report: "In a world that now panders to point-chasers, and where the requirement is for young wines to be instantly friendly and easy to appreciate, the Bourées are something of an anachronism - that’s not an uncomplimentary remark, rather it is a comment to their style and their retention of a very ‘traditional’ outlook - or as they would prefer to say ‘authentic’. Although headquartered in Gevrey where they have an extensive warren of cellars, the Bourées have their main winery in Chambolle. This is a reasonably large operation that mixes domaine owned vines with grapes and (occasionally) must sourced from other growers. Their cellars can and do accommodate up to 500 barrels per vintage." (08/2006)

1968 Beaulieu Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Bid on this bottle of 1968 Beaulieu Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Beaulieu Vineyard was built up into a Californian great by the legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff from 1936 to 1973. Tchelistcheff was a chemist by training and he pushed innovation and quality to ever higher levels. The BV winery reached its high point at the end of the 1960s, expanding its distribution and quality to become the definitive California winery of that era. Of course, everything that goes up must come down and 1968 was the year that ownership moved from the hands of Mme Le Pin to the conglomerate Heublein. Great wines continued to be produced afterwards, but the innovative atmosphere of Tchelistcheff was on the way out in favor of maximizing revenue and increasing production. A wine from before The Fall. Ed Mc Carthy, Mary Ewing-Mulligan: "1951 and 1968 are Beaulieu Vineyards true all-time standout Cabernet Sauvignon vintages." (California Wine for Dummies)

Raspberry, maraschino cherry and smoke on the nose. Sweeter, deeper and more intense than the Willow Creek offering, with a sappy quality in the middle palate and riper, darker flavors of pomegranate and sassafras. A step up in density. Finishes with dusty tannins and very good lift. This one comes from owner/winemaker Thomas Brown's warmest pinot site, and yet it has the lowest pH in 2006 at 3.38. The fruit here always retains acidity, Brown explained, adding that it used to go to sparkling wine. " (06/2009)
